COLUMBUS — Steven E. Scott, 49, of Columbus, KS died at 1:20 p.m.,
Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.
Steven was born March 19, 1960 in Pittsburg, KS to Neal A. and Shirley
L. (Salem) Scott. He attended area schools, graduating from Erie High
School with the class of 1978.
On June 2, 1979, in Pittsburg, Ks he married Lorrie J. Wydick. She
survives of the home.
Steven was a cattleman and rancher. He owned and operated Lazy S
Farms for 32 years, were he raised Registered Red Poll Cattle. He has
been the manager of the Farmers Co-op in Baxter Springs for the past 9
years.
Steven was a member of the First Baptist Church in Columbus, were he
was a Deacon and taught Sunday school. In High School Steven was an
avid sports player. He was a standout in football as a linebacker. He has
also been very active in the FFA and was an alumni member of the
Columbus Chapter. Steven received the State Farm award as a senior in
FFA. He served on the National Board of Directors of The American Red
Poll Cattle Association. He also served as a junior advisor on The
American Junior Red Poll Association. He served on the CO-OP board
for many years. He was a 4H Beef leader in Cherokee County. He was
active in the Cherokee and Crawford County fairs. He coached his girl’s
basketball teams. Steve enjoyed fishing and spending time with his
family. He especially enjoyed helping others, including children of all
ages.
Additional survivors include his daughters Becky Perdue and husband
Chris of Columbus, KS and Kim Scott of the home, parents Neal and
Shirley Scott of Weir, KS, sisters Kay Mein and husband Rick of Walnut,
KS, Vickie Boss and husband Jim of Eureka, KS, Connie Hewlett and
husband Ed of Independence, KS and Cathy Ward of Evansville, IN;
along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Lloyd and
Viola Scott and maternal grandparents Tom and Hazel Salem.
Funeral services will 10 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Center
Christian Church of Columbus, KS with rev. Warren Stanton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Edgmand Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 6-9 p.m. on Monday at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Columbus,
KS. Friends may call the funeral home after 5 p.m. on Monday. The
family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to
the Jr. Red Poll Cattle Association and/or Steven Scott’s family to help
with medical expenses. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home, 611 S. East Ave., Columbus, KS 66725.

WEIR — Betty J. (Lloyd) Ratzlaff, 76 of Weir, KS, died Wednesday,
October 7, 2009 following a short illness.
She was born July 9, 1933 in Weir the daughter of George and Katherine
(Schenherr) Thompson.
On May 13, 1954 she was united in marriage to Louis E. Lloyd, he
preceded her in death on April 27, 1980. She married Wilbur H. Ratzlaff
on Nov. 14, 1980 and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1991.
She was a homemaker and a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the DAV
Auxiliary.
Survivors include three sons Louis Allen Lloyd and wife Lori of Weir, Fred
W. Lloyd and wife Terri of Beulah, KS and Richard Todd Lloyd of Wichita,
KS, one daughter Kathy Rahe and companion George of Weir; one
brother George Thompson of Weir, 11 grandchildren and 21 great
grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her 1st and 2nd husbands.
Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2009 at the
Hosey HillCemeterywith Fr. Bernard X. Gorges and Chaplain Wayne
Mason officiating. Friends are requested to meet at thecemeteryfor the
services. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m.
Sunday. Friends may also call at the funeral home after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be
made to the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice; these may be left at or
mailed to the funeral home. Arrangements by the Bath-Naylor Funeral
Home, 104 W. Main Weir, KS 66781.

Darlene O. Battitori, 93, of West Mineral KS, died at 8:25am, Monday,
October 5, 2009 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park, KS.
Darlene was born January 18, 1916 in West Mineral, KS to Ernest and
Ida (Horn) Vanorsdall. She attended area schools, graduating from West
Mineral High School.
On December 24, 1938, in Carthage, MO, she married Joe Battitori. He
preceded her in death on May 30, 1970.
Darlene was a homemaker. She attended the Methodist Church. She
was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #153 of
Scammon, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Darwin
Vanorsdall.
She is survives by her daughters Darlene Burnett and husband Mike of
Camdenton, MO and Donna Taylor and husband Bryan of Olathe, KS;
along with 6 grandchildren Bill Thayer of Neodesha, KS, Dan Thayer of
Neodesha, KS, Joy Prunty (Lance) of Neodesha, KS, Brogan Taylor
(Natalie) of Atlantic Beach, FL, Brandy Allison (Dustin) of Olathe, KS, and
Brianne Winters (Kyle) of Olathe, KS and 15 great-grandchildren.
Nephew John Battitori (Carol) and family of Girard, KS and niece Janet
Ball (Paul) and family from West Mineral, KS.
Graveside services will be 10am, Friday, October 9, 2009 at Park
Cemetery in Columbus, KS with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Family
and friends are requested to meet at the cemetery. The family will
receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home,
104 W. Main St, Weir, KS. Friends may call the funeral home after 4pm
on Thursday.

Edna E. Lucas 90, of Weir, KS departed this earth 4:30pm Saturday
October 3, 2009 at Medicalodge South in Pittsburg, KS following a long
illness.
Edna was born February 19, 1919 in Weir, KS to Edmund and Sadie
(Welsh) Mummert. Her father Edmund died October 24, 1918 prior to
her death. Cody J. Goss became her step-father in 1926. Edna
attended Coal Valley and Weir Public Schools.
On March 11, 1936, Edna married Laurence Lucas; he preceded her in
death on December 6, 1971. She worked at the Kansas Army
Ammunition Plant, Del-Letters and Golden Age Nursing Home until her
retirement in 1984.
Survivors include children Larry Lucas and wifeEd Virginia Lucas and Jim
Lucas; daughter Linda Berning all of Weir, KS; 11 grandchildren, 26
great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; she is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
Edna was preceded in death by six brothers Bill, Cal, Wayman, Tom,
Bud and Jim Mummert and one sister Hazel Boyer.
Funeral Services will be 10am Wednesday October 7, 2009 at the
Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Weir, KS with Rev. Aaron Williams
officiating. Burial will follow at the Hosey HillCemeteryin Weir, KS.
Family will receive friends from 7-8pm Tuesday October 6, 2009 at the
Funeral Home; friends may call after 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family
ask expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Southern
Care Hospices. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home 104 W. Main Weir, KS 66781.
Arrangements and services are under the direction of Bath-Naylor.

Rosella Casella Hamilton 73, of Afton, OK formally of Pittsburg, KS died
12:04am Thursday October 1, 2009 at her home following a long battle
with cancer.
Rosella was born September 1, 19 36 in Pittsburg, KS to William E. and
Leta J. (Smith) Redd. She was a lifelong resident of the area and
attended area schools.
On November 24, 19 52 Rosella married Alex A. Casella in Miami, OK ;
he preceded her in death on August 30, 1984. She later married Bill
Hamilton on October 24, 1987 in Pittsburg, KS ; he survives at the home
in Afton, OK.
Rosella worked as secretary/receptionist and a waitress most of her life
for area businesses in Pittsburg, KS ; most notably National Pizza Chain
(NPC) in Pittsburg, KS. Rosella was of the Christian Faith; she
belonged to the VFW Lady’s Auxiliary, enjoyed playing darts,
horseshoes, NASCAR, watching football, cooking, and family was the
most important thing in her life.
Survivors include her husband, children Alan Casella and Kathy of Webb
City, MO, Eva Rokezewski and husband Dennis of Pittsburg, KS, Jan
Keller and husband Rick of Pittsburg, KS, Marsha Lucas and husband
Bruce of Huntsville, AL, Kevin Casella and wife Jennifer of Pittsburg, KS,
Kelly Granere and husband Geoff of Salina, KS; stepchildren Roberta
Watkins of Benton, IL and Cathy Hamilton of Benton, IL; siblings Della
Miller of Wichita, KS and Martha Iori and husband Gary of Pittsburg, KS;
27 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 on the way.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, parents, 4 brothers and
1 sister.
Funeral Services will be 10am Monday October 5, 2009 at the Bath-
Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Rev. Daryl Gaddy officiating.
Burial will follow at the Mt. OliveCemeteryin Pittsburg, KS. Family will
receive friends from 6-7pm Sunday October 4, 2009 at the Funeral
Home; friends may call after 1pm. In lieu of flowers the family ask
expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to the Pancreatic
Cancer Society. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to Bath-Naylor
Funeral Home 522 S. Broadway Pittsburg, KS 66762. The family will be
gathering at Jan and Rick Keller’s house.
Arrangements are by Bath-Naylor Funeral Home of Pittsburg, KS.
