Obituary: Wallace Ray Kidd, 80, of Manhattan, KS passed away Monday, October 25, 2004 in his home after an extended illness.

He was born February 21, 1924 at Kansas City, MO, to Prentis Kidd, Sr. and Clara Ray Owens. Wallace completed Crispus Attucks Elementary and Lincoln High School in 1941. He served during World War II in the ETO Quartermaster Trucking and was honorably discharged in December 1945. His first marriage was to the late Bertha Colleen Ford of Topeka, KS. To this union, five children were born. In 1997, he married Mary Louise Caudle of Indianapolis, IN. In 1950, he received his Bachelor of Science in Entomology & Parasitological at Kansas State University. He began the Manhattan Pest Control Company (now Anti-Pest Company) in 1948, rendering pest control services in Manhattan, Junction City, Salina, Topeka, and Wichita also Kansas City, MO and other regions.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan, serving more recently on the usher board. Wallace was a member of the National Pest Management Association; Kansas Pest Management Association; and served on the Riley County Commissioners Board, Riley County Law Board; Manhattan City Planning Committee; and the Riley County Seniors Service Center. Wallace was a lifetime member of Kappa Alpha Psi (Beta Chapter); former Worshipful Master of Kaw Blue Lodge No. 107; lifetime member of Kansas State University Alumni Association; Kansas Diversity Advisory Council; Manhattan Kiwanis; Toastmasters; Boy Scouts of America Board; and PTO President (Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School).

His widow Mary Louise Caudle-Kidd survives in the home. Children, Quinton Ray Kidd, and his wife, Laurie, of Montrose, CO; Rosalyn K. Chism of Wichita, KS; Meredith Edwards Kidd, Sr., and his wife, Sandra, of Topeka, KS; and Gevin Collace Kidd, and his wife, Carol, White City, KS. A daughter, Lezlie Storm Boast, and his parents preceded him in death. Grandchildren: Chris, James Andrew, and Sean Phillip Kidd, Montrose, CO, Leah Mackenzie Chism, Dallas, TX, Samone D’Neece Chism, Pittsburg, CA, Meredith Edward Kidd, Jr., and his wife, Colleen, Topeka; Lt. Elliott M. Kidd, US Navy, St. Louis, MO; and Anjelica C. Kidd, White City. The great grandson is Quincy Isaiah Kidd, Topeka. Stepchildren Roderic Hurt, Kimberly Miller, James Michael Hurt and Malcolm C. Cunningham of Indianapolis, IN. Juanita Kidd Caldwell, a sister, Overland Park, KS and a brother, Prentis E. Kidd, Jr., Kansas City, MO and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 29, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Audrey Jean (Gabbard) Meyer passed from this world at 3:55 p.m. on October 19, 2004 at the St. Joseph Village Senior Center in Manhattan, Kansas after a short illness. She died from complications of advanced lung cancer. Audrey Jean “Babe” Meyer, as she was known to her older friends and family was born in Sabetha, Kansas on January 05, 1923 to Charles Leland “Gourdhead” Gabbard and Dora Grace “Sugie” (Dillaplain) Gabbard. Her father retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1952 after nearly 50 years of service so, when Audrey was young, her family moved numerous times in and around Nemaha, Brown and Marshall Counties in Kansas. Soon they settled in Marysville, Kansas and this is where she completed her formal education. She graduated in 1940 from Marysville High School at the top of her class. She married first Bernard Hennis in 1943 at Marysville, KS and in 1944 Bernard was killed in an attack from a Japanese torpedo in the Philippines during WWII. She married second, William Carden “Red” Pinkham in 1946 at Marysville, KS. From this union they had two children, Charline Pinkham Ryckman and Theodore “Ted” Pinkham. Audrey and Red were later divorced. She married for the third and last time to Joseph Hugh “Huey” Meyer at Omaha, NE. To this union were born three children, Jill Meyers Frese, Joel Meyers and James Meyers.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Willa Gabbard Patterson McDowell, one brother, Kenneth Gabbard and her husband Joe Meyer. She is survived by her children, Charline Ryckman and her husband Tom, St. Louis, Missouri; Ted Pinkham and his wife Becky, Marysville, Kansas; Jill Frese and her husband John, Manhattan, Kansas; Joel Meyers, Manhattan, Kansas and James Meyers and his wife Bonnie of Hoisington, Kansas; 12 Grandchildren; Dawn Koll Carvalho and her husband Phil, St. Louis, Missouri; Tige Koll and his wife Holly, Belle Plaine, Minnesota; Nathan Ryckman, St. Louis, Missouri; Jennifer Pinkham Salts Schuster and her husband Adam, St. Joseph, Illinois; Brian Pinkham Salts and his wife Dawn, Nebraska, Candice Pinkham Schmitz and her husband Eric, Centralia, Kansas; Wade Pinkham, Iola, Kansas; James Meyers, Joseph Meyers, Jeffry Meyers, John Meyers all of Emporia, Kansas; and Dakota Meyers of Hoisington, Kansas. She also is survived of 6 great-grandchildren: Paige Gratzer, Lindsey Carvalho, Keely Koll, Baby Salts, Kabriel Schuster, and Breanna Schmitz,

Funeral services are planned for Monday, October 25th 10:00 a.m. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan, Kansas with graveside services at 2:00 p.m., Marysville City Cemetery, Marysville, Kansas. There will be a viewing for family and friends on Sunday, October 24th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan, Kansas. Obituary: Don Alan Barker, 47, Manhattan, KS passed away Thursday, October 21, 2004 at his home after a short illness.

He was born April 7, 1957 at Eureka, KS, the son of Francis “Gene” Eugene Barker and Joyce Lee Jackson Barker. He spent his early years in various communities in eastern Kansas and graduated from the Junction City High School in 1975.

He was united in marriage to Theresa Lewis on April 30, 1982 at Manhattan. They were later divorced.

Mr. Barker had been a resident of Manhattan since the early 1980’s. He worked as a repair technician, most recently with the Mid-West Hardware Company, Manhattan. He was a member of the University Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amanda Joyce Barker; and his parents.

Survivors include a son, Justin Barker, Alta Vista, KS; a daughter, Monica Barker, Manhattan; a brother, George Eugene Barker, Basehor, KS; a sister, Nyla Suffron, Topeka, KS; and four granddaughters.

Cremation is planned. A graveside inurnment service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 25, 2004 in the Bala Cemetery, Bala, KS with Hiriam Cassel officiating.

Obituary: Willa Deanne Mills Eyestone, 76, Manhattan, KS passed away Friday, October 1, 2004 at her home after an extended illness.

She was born in Lansing, KS on September 18, 1928, the daughter of William Carl Mills and Helen Lambert Mills. She graduated from Lansing High School in 1946 and attended Kansas State University for two years.

She was united in marriage to Merle L. Eyestone on June 26, 1948 at Lansing. She had been a resident of Manhattan since 1963. In 1975, she returned to her studies at Kansas State and received her B.S. degree in Home Economics in 1978. She was a member of the Clovia 4-H Scholarship House, while in college, and later served as an alum advisor for 10 years.

Willa was primarily a homemaker, which included the raising of four children. She did work outside the home for seven years as a research assistant in the Grain Science Department at KSU and two years at the Manhattan Public Library. She served as the Community 4-H Club leader for the Lee Hilltoppers Club for 15 years. She was active in the womens groups at the First United Methodist Church, belonged to the Konza Prairie Quilt Guild, Stardusters Extension Homemakers Unit and AAUW. She was also a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Merle, of the home; three sons, Keith Eyestone, Manhattan, Daniel Eyestone, and his wife, Debbie, Great Bend, KS and Richard Eyestone, and his wife, Jane, and their two daughters, Caitlin and Sydney, Junction City, KS; a daughter, Gail Eyestone, Manhattan; a sister, Emma Jeanne Liggett, Crystal River, FL; and a brother, Lambert Mills, also of Crystal River.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church, Manhattan with the Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: Barbara E. Caldwell, 55, Manhattan, KS passed away Sunday, April 17, 2005 in the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

She was born September 19, 1949 at Springfield, MO, the daughter of J.C. Newman and Mildred N. Matney Newman. She grew up in Seymour, Mo, where she attended the local schools and was a 1967 graduate of the Seymour High School. She later attended Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield.

She was united in marriage to Fred William Caldwell on March 9, 1968 in Seymour. He survives of the home.

Following her husband’s military career, Mrs. Caldwell made homes in various locations of the world, including Italy for 8 years and Germany for four years. She had been a resident of Manhattan since October 27, 1986. Since living in Manhattan, she worked as an administrative assistant in the Animal Science Department- KSU for 15 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sigma Beta Phi, Laureate Chapter, a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years, and was a Board member of the Friends of the Sunset Zoo from 1988-1993. She was a “Community Volunteer of the Year” in 1983 and also was the central figure as wife, mother and neighbor which enabled the family to be selected by Nancy Reagan as a Great American Family, both while living in Germany.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Gayle Michelle Caldwell, Lyons, KS; and a host of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2005, at the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: John E. Weisner, 66, Shawnee, KS, formerly of St. George, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 in the Delmar Gardens Nursing Home, Overland Park, KS.

He was born May 10, 1938 at Junction City, KS, the son of Frank Weisner and Frances Lynn Weisner. He grew up in the Wakefield and Clay Center areas of Kansas and was a member of the Wakefield High School class of 1957.

He was united in marriage to Judy Regester on September 6, 1958 at Ogden, KS. She survives of the home.

John owned and operated Weisner, Inc., a building contractor specializing in custom home building and concrete work for 32 years. He had been a longtime resident of St. George and had just recently moved to Shawnee.

He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1956 until 1964, served on the St. George Recreation Commission and was a member of the Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Manhattan. He also enjoyed coaching baseball for many years and was instrumental in bringing youth traveling baseball to Manhattan.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by a son, Rick Weisner, and his wife, Jill, Olathe, KS; a daughter, Kori Stickley, and her husband, Rob, Stilwell, KS; a brother, Dale Weisner, Riley, KS; two sisters, Corrine Kanode, Manhattan and Rocksy Johnson, Rancho Cucamonga, CA; and two grandchildren, Kate and Drew Weisner, Olathe.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2005 in the Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Lawrence Grennan as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.

Obituary: William H. “Bill” Gregg, 78, Manhattan, KS passed away Saturday, April 2, 2005 in the Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan.

He was born March 12, 1927 at Manhattan, the son of Roy and Blanche (Berry) Gregg and was a lifelong area resident. He attended the Manhattan area schools and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gregg worked as an equipment operator at Ft. Riley for over 35 years, retiring in 1982.

He was united in marriage to Berris D. Lutz on July 16, 1949 in Manhattan. She survives of the home.

Mr. Gregg was a member of the Pearce Keller American Legion Post No. 17, Manhattan and the V.F.W Post No. 4343, Cheyenne, WY. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener and always enjoyed the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Gregg is survived by two daughters, Linda Skinner, and husband, Randy, Hugoton, KS and Jeanie Lowe, and husband, Harold, Cheyenne, WY; a sister, Betty Jo Moore, and husband, Paul, Manhattan; three grandchildren, Staci Stevens, Manhattan, Shawna Riffel, and husband, Laird, Abilene, KS and CJ Skinner, and wife, Marcala, Liberal, KS; three great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madisyn and Spencer Riffel, all of Abilene; two step-grandchildren, Heath Lowe and Samantha Gross, Columbus, NE; many nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, LeRoy and Bernard Gregg.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2005 in the Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home, Manhattan with the Rev. Pat Weyrauch officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery, Manhattan.
