STANFORD -- Howard Hoskins, 79, of Stanford, husband of Edith Hoskins, died Thursday at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. Arrangements are incomplete at Spurlin Funeral Home.

Raymond U. Lay

LIBERTY -- Raymond Ural Lay, 64, of Vevay, Ind., died Tuesday in Rising Sun, Ind.

Born June 26, 1938, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Thornton and Rosie Vaughn Lay. He was a former custodian at Belterra Casino in Indiana, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include a his stepmother, Bessie Lay of Rising Sun; a daughter, Patty Jo Courter of Holton, Ind.; five brothers, Stanley Lay of Holton, Alton and Jesse Lay, both of Vevay, Carl Lay of Rising Sun and Chester Lay of Bennington, Ind.; four sisters, Datha Carmon of Greensburg, Ind., Carolyn Wright of Milan, Ind., and Linda Cann and Connie Figmon, both of Rising Sun; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Clifford Dehart. Burial will be in Whited Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Velma Mushin

LIBERTY -- Velma Mushin, 91, of Middleburg died Wednesday at her home.

Born April 1, 1911, in McKinney, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Mona Gooch Montgomery. She was the widow of Robert O. Mushin. She was a former Middleburg School cook and a member of Middleburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Elaine Johnson of Hustonville, Faye Bastin of Cincinnati, Thelma Elliott of Middleburg, Bobbie Gail Morgan of Hot Springs, Ark., and Carolyn Simpson of Atlanta, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Mike Hatter. Burial will be in Middleburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Saturday.

Pamela S. Sebastian

LANCASTER -- Pamela Sue Sebastian, 52, of White Oak Road died Thursday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born May 4, 1950, in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of Bluford and Bernice Combs Sebastian of Stanford. She was a former manager of Mom Blakeman Candies.

Other survivors include a sister, Joyce Thompson of Stanford; a niece and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Barry Jeffries. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Frankie Harris, Joe Montgomery, Brian Thompson, Jeff Durham, Jerry Combs and Mitchell Booth.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today.

Avanell C. Pyle

Services for Avanell Craig Pyle, 88, of Arnold Tower will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Lance A. Perry. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

She died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 30, 1913, in Muhlenberg County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar H. and Agnes I. Hendricks Craig. She was a retired licensed beautician and had worked at Embry's Hair Salon in Lexington. She was owner of Avanell's Antiques in Lincoln and Boyle counties for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a horsewoman and raised standardbred horses with her husband and continued after his death at Violet Slope Farm in Hustonville. She attended Western Kentucky University and is the widow of James I. Pyle.

Survivors include a daughter, Haldis E. Pyle of Ypsilanti, Mich.; two sons, James L. Pyle of Harrodsburg and Charles H. Pyle of Stanford; two sisters, Daphne Baker of Dayton, Ohio, and Imogene Tinkle of Greenville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Chris, Brian and Craig Pyle, Robin Applegate, Todd Kirkpatrick and Tony Finley.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 Saturday.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice.

Ann B. Sturgill

LANCASTER -- Services for Ann Broadus Sturgill, 59, of Lancaster will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Spurlin Funeral Home by Barry Jeffries. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

She died Tuesday at her home.

Pallbearers will be Freddie Edgington, Wayne Burkhart, Charles Glenn, Sterling Middleton, Danny Ballinger and Eddie Tudor. Honorary pallbearers are Rhonda Middleton, Ronald Middleton, Lafe Newton and Matthew Jordan.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to Heritage Hospice of Danville or Lancaster Baptist Church.

Benjamin Brock

CRAB ORCHARD -- Benjamin Brock, 86, of Somerset died Saturday at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 16, 1916, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Cale and Nancy Brock. He was a farmer and coal miner, an Army veteran and the widow of Sara Brock.

Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Sprigner of Leona, Tenn.; four sons, David Brock of Florence, Ron Brock of Falmouth, Benny Brock of Brodhead and Charles J. "Jim" Brock of Crab Orchard; four daughters, Donna Poynter of Stanford, Jewell Cummins of Broughtontown, Nancy Miller of Crab Orchard and Betty Drury of Frankfort; a brother, Orville Brock of Evarts; 22 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Alice A. Carmicle

LIBERTY -- Alice Alma Carmicle, 70, of Hustonville died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 13, 1932, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Fannie Mae Woodrum Zachary. She was a homemaker and a member of Willow Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie L. Carmicle; four sons, Barry and Jeff Carmicle, both of Stanford, Phillip Carmicle of Danville and Ernie Carmicle of Campbellsville; two daughters, Tina Jones of Stanford and Pat Charles of Frankfort; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Carmicle.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Ed Parton. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Saturday.

Minnie M. Gambrel

BARBOURVILLE -- Minnie Mills Gambrel, 90, of Flat Lick died Wednesday at Knox County Hospital.

Born Dec. 31, 1911, in Knox County, she was the daughter of the late William and Post Bargo Mills. She was a homemaker and former school cook, a member of Concord Baptist Church in Flat Lick and the widow of McKinley Gambrel.

Survivors include three sons, Jack Gambrel of Danville, S.B. Gambrel and Paul Gambrel, both of Flat Lick; two daughters, Imogene Cassidy of Knoxville, Tenn., and Evelyn Jackson of Lovingston, Va.; two sisters, Viola and Sue; five brothers, Les, Loman, Bill, Eugene and McArthur Mills; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Knox Funeral Home by the Revs. Larry Sowders and James Polly. Burial will be in Amis-Bargo Cemetery, Flat Lick.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 9 am. Saturday.

Sheila Pigman

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Sheila Pigman, 43, of High Point died Thursday at her home.

Born May 4, 1959, in Hazard, she was the daughter of Edgar Nickles of Littcarr and the late Jewell Fugate Nickles. She was a graduate of Knott County High School and University of Kentucky where she was a John Bryan Bowman Fellow and life member of the alumni association. She and her husband established an endowed engineering scholarship program at UK and an assistance fund for children to attend Camp Nathaniel Bible camp. She also was an insurance professional and served as president of Insurance Women in Evansville, Ind. She was co-owner of Corpening Insurance Center in High Point. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Rotary Club, where she served on the board, the North Carolina Shakespeare Festival and its board, and Leadership High Point. She also was an active volunteer for several causes, including United Way of Greater High Point.

Survivors include her husband, Stan Pigman; her stepmother, Mae Nickles of Littcarr; and a sister, Shirley Culton of Danville.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in High Point by the Rev. William Slater.

Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Service.

Memorials may go to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, N.C., 27262; or Hospice of Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Dr., High Point.

Willie M. Brown

STANFORD -- Services for Willie Martin "Bill" Brown, 66, of Hustonville will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Fox Funeral Home by Rick Naylor. Burial will be in Eason Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at his home.

Born April 18, 1936, in Geneva, he was the son of the late Henry and Carrie Naylor Brown. He was a retired custodian for Lincoln County Board of Education, and a long-time horse owner and trainer.

Survivors include his wife, Dollie Campbell Brown; three daughters, Regina M. "Chigger" Ellison of Hustonville, Dottie Lewis of McKinney and Odena L. "Dena" Johnson of Birdseye, Ind.; a stepson, Wayne "Goat" Manuel of Geneva; a brother, Ersel "Squirt" Brown of Geneva; five sisters, Mae Azbill of McKinney, Faye Tillett and Linda Martin, both of Geneva and Betty Crowley and Letha Tillet, both of Stanford; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death a stepson, William G. Brown.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy and Marlon Tillett, Lonnie and Russell Brown, Dale Crowley and Don Martin. Honorary pallbearers are Clayton and Chris Crowley, Keith and Little Marlon Tillett and Steve Brown.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.

Jamie Lee Day

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Jamie Lee Day, 25, of Bailey Pike will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Lester Tirey. Burial will be in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

He died Tuesday in Boyle County.

Born July 15, 1977, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Carl Day of Danville and Dana Smith Perkins of Burgin. He was an employee of Danville Marine Service, and a 1995 graduate of Burgin High School, where he was a member of the Burgin Bulldogs basketball team. He attended Lee College, where he was a member of the basketball team and attended University of Kentucky for two years. He was a member of Burgin Baptist Church.

Other survivors include his stepmother: Pam Day of Danville; his stepfather, Smith Perkins III of Burgin; two brothers, David W. Parks Jr. of Burgin and Cameron Day of Danville; a sister, Caitlin Day of Danville; maternal grandmother, Delores Hatfield of Burgin; paternal grandparents, Denver and Susie Day of Danville; great-grandmothers, Eula Jackson of Corbin and Noami Ives of Louisville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Scottie Lee Day.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Thacker, Nathan Bartley, Daniel Lucas, Steve Keisler, B.J. Case and Lee Qualls. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Crank, Travis Taylor, James, Joey and Jeff Day.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Saturday.
