Charles Cook

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Charles Cook, 71, of Beaumont Avenue will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Harold Best and Barry Jeffries. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

He died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital.

Born Nov. 5, 1931, in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Earnest B. and Emma Franklin Cook. He was retired after working 18 years for Hallmack and was co-owner of Jenkins and Cook Movers. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and past president of Mercer County Coon Club and Mercer County Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Jenkins Cook; and a sister, Lucille Barr of Shelbyville.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and after 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Memorials may go to Immanuel Baptist Church building fund.

Fred Richards

MORELAND -- Services for Fred Richards, 79, of Hustonville will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by G.W. Smith. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

He died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 14, 1923, in Casey County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Effie Cox Richards. He was a retired farmer and a member of Ellisburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lyda Reeves Richards; a son, Victor Richards of Hustonville; a brother, Frank Richards of Liberty; four sisters, Faye Duggins of Danville, Cora Trailor of Hustonville, Hattie Richards of Harrodsburg and Alma Grubbs of Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shirley, Elmer and A.C. Richards, Joe Casey, Foster Followell and Carroll Wethington.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today.

Henry Shearer

LIBERTY -- Graveside services for Henry Shearer, 81, of Liberty will be 2 p.m. today at Whited Cemetery by the Rev. Lloyd Scott.

He died Sunday at his home.

Born May 9, 1921, in Russell County, he was the son of the late Milford and Mae Morgan Shearer. He was a former factory worker and the widower of Edria Shearer.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Bonnie Brown of Junction City; six step grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; and 12 step great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Betty Helm.

There will be no visitation.

Bartle Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mearlyn D. Adkins

LIBERTY -- Mearlyn Dale Adkins, 52, of Campbellsville died Saturday at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lexington.

Born June 3, 1950, in Elliott County, he was a son of the late Ersel and Blanche Moore Adkins. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of Hepburn Lodge 576, a 32nd degree Mason in Sandy Hook, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Epley Adkins; a daughter, Danielle A. Moore of Campbellsville; two brothers, Robert Adkins of Troy, Ohio, and Dallas Adkins of North Carolina; seven sisters, Sue Smith of Piqua, Ohio, Garnie Russell of Troy, Hazel Russell, Teresa Steel, Faye Russell and Geraldine Blanton, all of Sidney, Ohio, and Mary Adams of Sandy Hook; and a grandson.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bartle Funeral Home by the Rev. Clifford Dehart. Burial will be in Tapscott Cemetery with military rites by the Casey County Funeral Squad.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary E. Devers

LORETTO -- Mary Ellen Devers, 94, of Louisville died Friday at Franciscan Healthcare Center.

Born May 12, 1908, in New Hope, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Brown Masterson.

She was a school cafeteria cook and a former member of St. Rita Catholic Church. She was the widow of William D. Devers Sr.

Survivors include six daughters, Lois J. Richardson, Dorothy Howell, Shirley Devers and Martha Kinberlin, all of Louisville, Elizabeth Harris of New Albany and Eugenia Anderson of Danville; a son, Joe Devers of Glasgow; a sister, Tillie Hamilton of Loretto; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five children, William, Joseph, Donnie, Douglas and Maria Devers.

Services were today at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church in New Hope by the Rev. Clarence Howard. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mattingly Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Maggie O. Fleming

CRAB ORCHARD -- Maggie Owens Fleming, 85, of Westchester, Ohio, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Sunday at Westchester Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born March 16, 1917, in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late John and Pearl Wilson Yarber. She was a retired employee of Palm Beach Clothing Co. and had attended Beech Grove Baptist Church.

She was the widow of John F. Owens and Ernie Fleming.

Survivors include a son, John W. Owens of Westchester; a half brother, Earl Shaw of Lancaster; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at McKnight Funeral Home by Dan Gutenson. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Friday.

Moss H. Mize

RICHMOND -- Moss Heath Mize, 87, of Richmond died Saturday at Pattie A. Clay Hospital.

Born Aug. 8, 1915, he was the son of the late Joe and Lucy Cox Mize. He was a retired employee of G.C. Cox Oil Co. and had worked at the Madison County Courthouse, and was a member of Speedwell Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nora Lee Kearns Mize; a daughter, Brenda C. Hall of Lancaster; two sons, Rickey Mize of Waco and Donald L. Mize of Danville; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home by Tom Burbrink. Burial will be in Madison Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today.

Paul Hopper

Services for Paul Tom Hopper, 80, of Lisa Avenue, were today at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Tommy Valentine. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens with military rites by Boyle Post 46, American Legion.

He died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Pallbearers were Jerry Baird, Bob Wheeler, John Bennett, Clarence Tate, Tom Hines, Leslie Brown and Garland Vest.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Anglers Sunday School class and Joy Sunday School class at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.

Memorials may go to the American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.

Sara Miller

Services for Sara Elizabeth Fuller Miller, 71, of O'Hara Drive will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at The Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Thomas K. Farmer. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

She died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 27, 1931, in Atlanta, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Dr. Ellis A. and Elizabeth West Bates Fuller.

She was a licensed real-estate broker with Coldwell Banker and VIP Realty and member of the multi-million dollar sales club and Coldwell Banker's Sterling Society.

She was a member of The Presbyterian Church, Ephraim McDowell Hospital Auxiliary, The Garden Club of Danville and PEO Sisterhood.

She attended Baylor University and graduated from Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and president of Pi Beta Phi social sorority.

Survivors include her husband, James M. Miller; a daughter, Elizabeth Fuller Miller of Danville; a son, J. Malcolm Miller of Danville; a sister, Ida L. Waddle of Louisville; and two step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Crutchfield, Benny Myers, Mack Jackson, Jerry Boyd, Nelson Rodes, Bill Dishman, Chris Jackson and Richard Kerbaugh.

Honorary pallbearers are Dan Moran, Gorman Roberts, Tammy Carr, Nina Kirkland, Florence Elkins, Dr. Sidney Marcum, Dr. Bill Pesci and Hugh Hines III.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the church.

Stith Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may go to the Kidney Foundation, The Presbyterian Church, Heritage Hospice or the Boyle County Emergency Medical Service Auxiliary Fund.
