Matrice G. Russell

LIBERTY -- Matrice G. Russell, 81, of Liberty, a retired teacher and social worker, died Sunday at her residence.

Russell was a retired school teacher and social worker in the Casey County School System.

Born Nov, 17, 1918, in Pulaski County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Lee and Myrtle Lee Pennington Gosser. She was the widow of Herman H. Russell and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Robert Carl Russell, Marvin Herman Russell and Dale Lee Russell all of Liberty; one sister, Fredia Richardson of Lawrenceburg; three brothers, Harvey and Horace Gosser of Liberty, and Gene Gosser of Hustonville; nine grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. G.W. Smith. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Crew, John Russell, Jeremy Tucker, Robbie Hundley, Ed Wilkinson and Larry Pitman.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at Bartle Funeral Home Chapel.

Ella Geer Emery

Ella Geer Emery, 92, of Danville died Sunday at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born Dec. 29, 1907, in Charleston, Ill., she was a daughter of the late Ray Geer and Leona Sherman. Emery, formerly of Edina and Minneapolis, Minn., was a professional violinist who taught and performed for 40 years.

Survivors include one son, Roy S. Emery, Montaque, Mich., two daughters, Carol Bastian of Danville, Martha Streu of Salem, S.C.; one sister, Mariel Campbell of Madison, Wisc.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Arrangements are incomplete at Stith Funeral Home.

Jackie Cain

LIBERTY -- Jackie Cain, 37, of Somerset died Saturday at Liberty Care Center.

Born June 17, 1963, in Liberty, she was a daughter of Irvin Cain and Mildred Gosser Brown, both of Seymour, Ind. She was a member of Grove Ridge Baptist Church.

Additional survivors include her stepfather, Lester Brown of Seymour, Ind., a sister, Debra Holton of Dunnville; and four brothers, Mitchell Cain of Concord, N.C., and Alex, Alan and Jonathan Cain, all of Seymour, Ind.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bartle Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Onva Hayes. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeffrey and Jamie Walters; Mitchell, Alex, Alan and Jonathan Cain; and Robert Holton. Honorary pallbearers are staff and employees of Oakwood.

Visitation is after 6:30 p.m. today at Bartle Funeral Home.

Maude W. Coleman

MORELAND -- Maude W. Coleman, 100, died Sunday at Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation in Danville.

A native of Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late William and Alice Walls Lucas. She was a homemaker.

Survivors are one son, Laurel Coleman of Danville; two daughters, Eva Coffman of Parksville and Marcella Sowers of OshKosh, Wisc.; one sister, Myrtle Lucas of Louisville; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Russell, Donald and Bill Coleman and two daughters, Pauline Coleman and Norma Harmon.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Bill Boldt. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.

Grandsons will be active pallbearers and granddaughters will be honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Ada N. Lanham

HARRODSBURG -- Ada N. Lanham, 84, died Sunday at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 6, 1915, in Marion, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Peyton and Harriett Elizabeth Kanady Eskew and was the widow of George William Lanham. She worked as a proof operator for Bank of Indiana and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Stalion-Bowman of Mercer County and Shirley Crawford of Duncanville, Texas; three sons, Charles William Lanham of Oak Brook, Ill., Robert Nunn Lanham of Severville, Tenn., and Anthony Clay Lanham of LaPorte, Ind.; a brother, Earl Peyton Eskew of Marion; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Rev. David Hartman. Burial will be 2 p.m. (CST) Wednesday in the Mapleview Cemetery in Marion.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday.

John H. Walkup Jr.

A memorial service for John Walkup Jr., 56, of Lexington Road will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Danville.

He died Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Services for Euna Mae Crowe Caldwell of Cemetery Street, Junction City, are scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home by the Rev. Jimmy Owens.

She died Friday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Stephen L. Layton

LANCASTER -- Stephen Lloyd Layton, 78, of Norfolk, Va., died Friday at DePaul Hospital.

Born Jan. 19, 1922, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Steve L. and Bess King Layton. He graduated from the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He had served 23 years in the Navy before retiring. He then worked 22 years as fleet and overseas distribution manager for the Navy motion picture service, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Lexie Homewood of Adams, Mass., and Betsy Kromidas of Newington, Conn.; a brother, Jerome Layton of Berea; a nephew, Jimmy Sanders of Lancaster; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Richard Kromidas, Tom Homewood, Tom Homewood III, Matt Horn, Alan Sanders and Marshall Johnson.

Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday.

Richard A. Gooch

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Richard A. "Richie" Gooch 32, of Cane Run Street will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Immanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Randy McPheron and John Dean. Burial will be in the K.P. Hall Cemetery, Kings Mountain, with military rites by area member of the National Guard.

He died Monday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital after an electrical accident at the Corning Inc. plant.

Born March 15, 1968, in Danville, he was the son of David A. Gooch of Stanford and Jackie Snow Gibson of Harrodsburg. He was an electrician for Corning Inc., and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and Flint Glass Workers Union. He was a former member of the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife, Robin Collier Gooch; a son, Nathan Gooch of Harrodsburg; a daughter, Sarah Gooch of Harrodsburg; a stepfather, Ronald Gibson of Harrodsburg; a stepmother, Rebecca Gooch of Stanford; a brother, Nathan Gooch of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Shannette Ouellette of Harrodsburg; two stepsisters, Anne Carrillo of Los Angeles, Calif., and Stacy Paul of Castaic, Calif.; maternal grandmother, Edith Snow of Greenwood Ind.; paternal grandparents, S.D. and Freda Gooch of Kings Mountain; and a great-grandmother, Ada Snow of Kings Mountain.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Huffman, Richard Sullivan, Billy Eldridge, Glenn Logue, Darryl Coffman, Steve Butler, David Robinson and Jon Sanders.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today at the church.

Memorials may go to Immanuel Baptist Church Youth Program.

James E. Royalty

HARRODSBURG -- Services for James E. Royalty, 76, of Versailles will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by the Revs. Tom Mobley and James Mobley. Burial will be in Cornishville Christian Cemetery with military rites.

He did Monday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

Born March 27, 1924, in Harrodsburg, he was a son of the late Fred T. and Della Baxter Adkinson Royalty. He was a retired employee of General Electric and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Palamore Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Steele Royalty; a son, Jerry Lee Royalty of Richmond; two daughters, Patricia Haertel and Susie Maybrier, both of Versailles; two sisters, Leola Peavler and Doris Robinson, both of Louisville; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.
