William A. Spalding

LOUISVILLE -- A memorial service for the Rev. William Albert Spalding, 77, of Louisville will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Danville.

He died Tuesday in Louisville.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph Spalding; and five sisters, Mary A. Schneider of Gainesville, Ga., Sister Rita Spalding of Nazareth, and Sara L. Abell, Florence E. Spalding and Catherine Battcher, all of Louisville.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius Church, Louisville. Burial will be in St. Augustine Church, Lebanon.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

Ratterman's Buechel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William H. Gentry

HARRODSBURG -- A memorial service for William Henry Gentry, 81, of Harrodsburg will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church.

Gentry, a native of Harrodsburg and former Corning Inc. employee, died April 25, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Virginia.

He was the widower of Katherine Poor Gentry and a highly decorated National Guard veteran.

Herbert Ashton

HARRODSBURG -- Herbert Ashton, 71, of Pinkston Court died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Jan. 11, 1929, in Williamsburg, he was a son of the late Francis and Mary Watts Ashton. Retired from Corning Inc., he was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Magnolia Street Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Lane Ashton; two sons, Herby Ashton and David Wayne Ashton, both of Harrodsburg; a stepson, Eddie Burton, of Harrodsburg; a stepdaughter, Lee Ann Butler of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Desi Arins and Lura Stephens, both of Cincinnati, and Maxine Pinkston of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren; and four step grandchildren.

Services will be Friday 2:30 p.m. at Magnolia Street Christian Church by the Rev. Glen Daughtery. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Darland, Timmy Darland, Steve Pinkston, John Arns, Danny Sharon and Andy Ashton.

Memorials may go to the childrens' program at Magnolia Street Christian Church.

Joe B. Humber

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Joe Bush Humber, 73, of Woodsland Drive will be 2 p.m. Friday at the McClellan Funeral Home by the Revs. Mark Girard and David Hartman.

Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

He died Wednesday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 15, 1926, in Danville, he was a son of the late Forest and Dorothy Duncan Hicks Humber. He was the former owner of Humber Heating & Air Conditioning and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Asher Humber; two sons, Danny W. Humber of Mercer Co. and Timothy J. Humber of Versailles; a daughter, Tori Jean Turpin of Versailles; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John W. Peavler, Mike Barnard, Sid Hollar, Paul Shirley, David Quinn and John Markel.

Visitation is 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church.

William Spalding

LOUISVILLE -- The Rev. William Albert Spalding, 77, of Louisville died Tuesday.

He had been pastor of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Danville, St. Mary's Church in Perryville and St. Patrick Church in Junction City before retiring in 1996. Spalding came to Danville in 1979.

He attended St. Mary's College in Marion County, and St. Meinrad Seminary in Indiana. He was ordained May 22, 1948, at the Cathedral of the Assumption in Louisville. Besides the Boyle County churches, he was pastor in several other churches in Marion and Jefferson counties.

Born March 6, 1923, he was a son of the late William M. and Mary Acquin Mattingly Spalding.

Survivors include a brother, Joseph Spalding of Louisville.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Athanasius Church, Louisville. Burial will be in St. Augustine Church, Lebanon.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church.

James L. Campbell

HARRODSBURG -- Services for James L. Campbell of Shakertown Road, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Shawnee Run Baptist Church by Lester Tirey and Jerry Lester. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He died Tuesday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 31, 1913, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late James and Hallie Curd Campbell. He was a farmer, a lifetime member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church and a former member of the Burgin Board of Education. He was a charter member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau and served as a corporate director for Southern States Cooperative from 1962-1979, chairman from 1974-1977 and vice chairman from 1970-1973.

Survivors include a son, Earl L. Campbell of Boyle County; a daughter, Mary E. "Pat" Loane of Missouri; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Marty and Daniel Loane, Jim and Clay Campbell, Harvey and Bill Duncan and George Wilcher.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and 7-10 a.m. Friday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home and 11 a.m. Friday until time of service at the church.

Memorials may go to Shawnee Run Baptist Church, Shakertown Road, Harrodsburg; or to Gideon's International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg 40330.

John S. Chambers

HOPKINSVILLE -- The Rev. John S. Chambers, 93, formerly of Perryville, died May 19 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center, Hopkinsville.

Born July 31, 1906, in Greencastle, Ind., he was a son of the late William D. and Lilly D. Chambers. He spent his childhood near Perryville where he started preaching at age 14. He was a graduate of Perryville High School and was a former pastor of Berea Christian Church in Mercer County.

He was a retired Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) minister. During his career as a minister, he preached over 8, 000 services and served on numerous boards and organizations of the church. He was the widower of Marjorie Kathryn Colson Chambers.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty C. Gerlach of Hopkinsville; and two grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at W.R. Milward Mortuary in Lexington, by the Revs. A. Guy Waldrop and Nancy Jo Kemper. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Ambers W. Davis

LANCASTER -- Ambers Walker Davis, 85, of Buckeye Road died Tuesday at Garrard County Memorial Hospital.

Born April 17, 1915, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Freeman and Annie Padgett Davis. He was a farmer and a member of Gunns Chapel Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Frances Davis of Lancaster; a son, Roy W. Davis of Lancaster; a stepdaughter, Patsy Hume of Lancaster; a brother, Willard Davis of Wilmore; three sisters, Mary A. Carrier of Lancaster, Ethel Grimes of Richmond, and Sally L. Lamb of Paint Lick; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Ramsey Funeral Home by the Rev. Glen Spann. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy and Chris Yeakey, Russell Howell, Deron Hume, Chris Sims and Leroy Davis.

Honorary pallbearers are David Simpson, Mike Davis, James Boyd, Mark May, Danny Irvin and Bob East.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today at the Ramsey Funeral Home.

Sallie C. Meadors

LANCASTER -- Sallie Lou Clark Meadors, 93, of Lancaster died Tuesday.

Born March 20, 1907, in Garrad County, she was the daughter of the late J.H. and Elizbeth Dunn Clark. She was a retired clerk at Meadows Clothing Store and the widow of Emory Meadors.

Survivors include two sons, Harold Meadors of Lancaster and Russel Meadors of Lexington; two daughters, Dorothy Casey and Doris Price, both of Nicholasville; five brothers, Carl Clark of Harrodsburg, Carl, Lucian, Henry, Gordon and John Clark, all of Lancaster; three sisters, Louise Sherrow of Richmond, Ind., and Dora Dean Ballard and Roberta Doolin, both of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lancaster Baptist Church by the Revs. Barry Jefferies, Zora Oliver and Walter Arnold. Burial will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Casey, Gary Price, Jeff Meadors, Greg Meadors, Bob Klausing and Herb Lutz.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today at the Lancaster Baptist Church.

Beulah M. Schooling

HARRODSBURG -- Services for Beulah McCristal Schooling, 91, of Louisville, formerly of Harrodsburg, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by the Rev. James Byrd. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

She died Monday at her home.

Born Oct. 15, 1908, in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Nora Logue McCristal. She was a retired Corning Glass Works employee and a member of the Bethel Number One Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of Gordon Schooling.

Survivors include a son, Gordon Hunter Schooling Jr. of Danville; two daughters, Ruth D. Tripp of Prentiss, Miss., and Judy Schooling of Louisville; a sister, Aileen Black of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeff, Jon and Adam Schooling, John White, Phillip Brachter, David Snellen and Alan Hendren.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today and after 7 a.m. Thursday.
