Clarence Baker

LANCASTER -- Clarence Baker, 71, of Fall Lick Road died Tuesday at his home.

Born Aug. 4, 1928, in Leslie County, he was a retired coal miner and railroad construction worker. He was a member of Maple Avenue Church of Christ and the widower of Marilyn Joseph Baker.

Survivors include a son, Daniel Baker of Lancaster; two daughters, Virginia Isaacs and Carolyn Craig, both of Lancaster; three brothers, George and Elmer Baker, both of Leslie County, and Fred Baker of Mount Sterling; three sisters, Polly Fields of Florida and Oma Shepherd and Lula Asher, both of Leslie County; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ramsey Funeral Home by Hunter Miller. Burial will be in the Baker Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Doug and Ben Price, Burl Cornelius, Steve Walton, Dan Lyons and Roy Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers are J.K. Simpson, Collis Ray, Mitchell Playforth, Fred Simpson Jr., Louie Hammons and Kim Sowder.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

James Donovan

HARRODSBURG -- James "Jimmy" Geffinger Donovan, 81, formerly of Cane Run Street, died Thursday at Veteran's Administration Medical Center, Lexington.

Born Oct. 25, 1918, in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Isaiah D. and Hazel Geffinger Donovan. He was a former draftsman in the city engineer's office. He served in the Army during World War II, for which he received three Purple Hearts. He was a member of Harrodsburg Christian Church and was a Harrodsburg historian. He was a former member of National Rifle Association, a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6935 and a member of Douglas Laws Post 52 of the American Legion.

Survivors include a cousin, Mrs. Jersey Clark of Columbia, S.C.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Spring Hill Cemetery by the Rev. David Hartman with military rites.

Pallbearers will be James Ison, Stephen Bailey, Frank Trisler, Robert Brasington and Jason Bugg.

There will be no visitation.

Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Godbey

LIBERTY -- Mattie Godbey, 89, of Liberty died Monday at Liberty Care Center.

Born April 18, 1910, in Lebanon, Ind., she was a daughter of the late Eli and Fannie Elliott Murphy. She was a homemaker and a member of Hill Top Trinity Full Gospel Tabernacle.

Survivors include two sons, Harold Luttrell of Danville and Larry Luttrell of Liberty; four daughters, Vivian Pyles of Danville and Agatha Clark, Fonneal Means and Betty Bendschneider, all of Liberty; a sister, Mildred Epperson of Somerset; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Don Clark. Burial will be in Poplar Hills Cemetery.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today.

Myrtle Griffin

MOUNT VERNON -- Myrtle Griffin, 72, of Mount Vernon died Monday at Sowder Nursing Home in Brodhead.

Born Sept. 11, 1927, in Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Etta Cummins Richards. She was a former operator of the Mount Vernon Motel and Bus Station, a former teacher's aide in Rockcastle County schools, and a retired secretary for Hospice. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Koinia Sunday School Class and the widow of Hobe Griffin.

Survivors include a son, Dwight Griffin of Mount Vernon; two stepsons, Albert E. Griffin of Mount Vernon and David J. Griffin of Stanton; a brother, Russell Richards of Hustonville; two sisters, Lucille Beldon of Hustonville and Anna Sharp of Liberty; and a granddaughter.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home by the Revs. Larry Harmon and William Ball. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Visitation is after 6 p.m. today.

Memorials may go to First Baptist Church.

HARRODSBURG -- Trudy Garriott Ransdell, 79, of Cherry Drive died Tuesday at her home. She was the wife of James G. Ransdell. Arrangements are incomplete at Ransdell Funeral Home.

Verna M. Steele

HARRODSBURG -- Verna McClain Steele, 87, of Dudley Drive died Tuesday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 4, 1912, in Spencer County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Lou Robinson McClain. She was the widow of Onis Steele, and a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Silver Bells Sunday School Class.

Survivors include a son, Donald C. Steele of Harrodsburg; a sister, Goldie Devine of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Steele.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Thursday and after 7 a.m. Friday.

Sue H. Bartlett

Services for Sue Hatchett Bartlett, 87, of South Alta Avenue will be 11 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. Paul Prabell. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

She died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Germann, Charles Girard, Ray Schaefer and Pedro Hernandez.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. today at Stith Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Memorials may go to SS. Peter and Paul building fund.

Leona D. Burdette

Services for Leona E. Doram Burdette, 94, of Waveland Avenue will be 1 p.m. Friday at St. James AME Church. Burial will be in Hilldale Cemetery.

She died Monday at her home.

Born April 14, 1905, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Eleazar and Nannie Doram. She was a beautician and a licensed practical nurse, having worked at Kentucky State Hospital. She and her husband operated Head Water Boat Dock on Herrington Lake for more than 20 years. She was a member of St. James AME Church for more than 90 years and was instrumental in bringing electric and phone services to the Clifton community. She was the widow of Andrew Burdette Sr.

Survivors include a stepson, Andrew Burdette of Lexington; two brothers, Eleazar Doram and Raphiael Doram, both of Ohio; and a sister, Lemora Lee of California; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Roberta Hickman and Willie M. Adams.

Pallbearers will be Henry Walker, Norman McGill, Tony Mays, Barnett Weathers and June Christy.

Honorary pallbearers are great-grandsons.

Visitation is 11 a.m. Friday until time of service.

Sue H. Bartlett

Sue Hatchett Bartlett, 87, of South Alta Avenue died Monday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1912, in Springfield, she was a daughter of the late O.D. and Jeannette McClellan Hatchett. She was a homemaker and a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She was the widow of Earl "Tex" Bartlett.

Survivors include a son-in-law, Jerry Foster of Forked River, N.J.; and two cousins, Quin Kerbaugh of Danville and John Meredith of Louisville.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Foster.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church by the Rev. Paul Prabell. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation is after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m.

Memorials may go to SS. Peter and Paul building fund.

Leona E. Burdette, 94, of Waveland Avenue died Monday at her home. She was the widow of Andrew Burdette. Arrangements are incomplete at Smith-Jackson Funeral Home.

Charles L. Coffman

Services for Charles "Charlie" Logan Coffman, 83, of Bowen Road in Lincoln County will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Albert Scott.

Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

He died Sunday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Lexington.

Pallbearers will be Dale, Charles and Austin Anness, Kenny and Chris Pollett, Mike Kidd, Eric Coffman and James Pevley.

Honorary pallbearers are Ina Pollett, Gail Stone, Angie Douglas, Tammy Pulliam, Teresa Lambert, Glenna Hardin and Sheliah Collier.

Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today.

Services for Roberta White, 93, of Alum Springs Road will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Parksville Christian Church by the Revs. John McHirney and Mark Payton. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

She died Sunday at Charleston Health Care Center.

Pallbearers will be the men of Parksville Christian Church.

Visitation is 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service.

Memorials may go to Parksville Rescue Squad.
