Kentucky Marriage Records by County

Howard Hall
1924-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Howard Hall, 75, who died Wednesday, June 7, at Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Paintsville.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Hall.
Mr. Hall was born October 26, 1924, in Lawrence County, to the late Wiley V. and Cinda Ann Williams Hall. He was retired from Westinghouse of Columbus, Ohio, and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a special friend, Mabel Hall; four daughters, Diane Baker, Debra Hall, Deidra Hall and Denise Hall, all of Eaton, Ohio; one brother, Earl Hall of Flat Gap; one sister, Doris Ann Worley of Louden, Tennessee; and 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 9, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Dick VanHoose officiating.
Burial was in Becky Cemetery at Flat Gap.

James Caudill
James Leroy Caudill, 72, died June 12, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Mr. Caudill was born August 9, 1927, at West Van Lear, to Clara Mae Caudill and the late Fred Caudill. He was the owner of First City Insurance Agency, served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, was a former board member of the Marshall University Alumni Association, Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and Independent Insurance Agents Association of West Virginia and past president of the Huntington Board of Independent Insurance Agents. He was the former director of the Marshall Memorial Invitational and long time supporter of Marshall University. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the Marshall Alumni Association, the John Shannon Award from the IIAAWV for lifetime achievement in the insurance business and the Chairman Award from the American Association of Managing General Agents. He was a Kentucky Colonel and an admiral in the Cherry River Navy. He was also a former Cub Scout master and Boy Scout leader.
Surviving are his wife, Dolores J. “Dee” Caudill; his mother; one son, David A. Caudill; two brothers, Earl and Eugene Caudill; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 14, at 2 p.m. at Klingel-Carpenter Mortuary, Huntington, West Virginia.
Burial will follow in Woodmere Memorial Park.

Johnnie Castle
1913-2000
Retired miner Johnnie Castle, 87, died Thursday, June 1, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Castle was born April 12, 1913, in Johnson County, to the late Proctor and Pelina Sparks Castle.
Surviving are his wife, Imogene Castle; and a nephew, Jerry Meek.
Graveside services were held Sunday, June 4, at Wells Buckingham Cemetery, Paintsville, with Wayne Burch officiating.
Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Howard
1919-2000
River resident Jessie Howard, 80, died Saturday, June 3, at her residence.
Mrs. Howard was born August 19, 1919, in Lawrence County, to the late Frank and Victoria Caudill Johnson. She as a member of Walnut Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ben Howard, in 1984.
Surviving are three sons, Raymond Howard of River, David Howard of Urbana, Ohio, and Carl Howard of Louisa; two daughters, Frances Brown of River and Carolyn Murray of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Mitchell Johnson of Ulysses; two sisters, Jewell Borders of River and Vada Ports of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 6, at Walnut Grove Freewill Baptist Church, Ulysses, with Dean Burchett and Harold Stevens officiating.
Burial was in Walnut Grove Church Cemetery, with Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Charles Eldridge Jr.
Charles "Charlie" Eldridge Jr. of Paintsville died Wednesday, June 7, at Central Baptist Hospital.
Mr. Eldridge was born in Fayette County, to the late Jessie Hisle Eldridge and Charles Eldridge Sr. He was a retired welder and diesel mechanic for Whayne Supply Company in Lexington, World War II veteran with the 101st Airborne, member of the Robert M. Sirkle Lodge #954 F&AM, Scottish Rite Mason, Valley of Lexington, a York Rite Mason, member of the Oleika Shrine Temple and Ashland Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel S. Eldridge; one son, Charles R. Eldridge of Paintsville; one daughter, Patricia Ann Curtsinger of Newport; three brothers, James of Georgetown and Carl and Millard, both of Lexington; on sister, Betty Harp of Lexington; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 10, at 10 a.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home Lexington, with Rev. Harry Revel officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504 or the Shriner's Hospital, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.

Geraldine Jones
1940-2000
Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, June 7, for Geraldine Jones, 60, who died Sunday, June 4, at her Martha residence.
Mrs. Jones was born March 30, 1940, in La Follette, Tennessee, to the late George William and Eula Smith Boshers.
Surviving are her husband, David Jones; two sons, Frank and Billy Ray Jones, both of Martha; two daughters, Mary Ann Jones of Martha and Tammy Lynn Jones of Lexington; three sisters, Martha Mae Greenwood and Blanche Patterson, both of Tennessee, and Lucy Ballenger of Dayton, Ohio; and 17 grandchildren.
Officiating at 11 a.m. services at Union Baptist Church, Keaton, will be T.C. Cantrell and Paul Castle.
Burial will follow in Jones Family Cemetery at Keaton, with Jones-Preston Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Ed Holbrook
1915-2000
Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Ed Holbrook, 84, who died Saturday, June 3, at VA Hospital in Lexington.
Mr. Holbrook was born August 10, 1915, at Red Bush, to the late John and Cynthia Holbrook. He was a farmer and veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Wendell Ison officiating.
Burial was in Paint Valley Memorial Gardens at Crockett.

Elmer Harris Jr.
1924-2000
West Van Lear resident Elmer Guy Harris Jr., 76, died Friday, June 2, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was born February 14, 1924, in Herrin, Illinois, to the late Elmer G. Sr. and Lila Mae Piliot Harris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Wade; and a son, Douglas Harris, in 1993.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Hughes Harris; two sons, James Harris of West Van Lear and David Harris of Alaska; one stepson, J.D. Hughes; five daughters, Linda Mullins and Dianna Wells, both of Thelma, Patricia Lafferty of Meally, Mary Banks of Van Lear, and Sandra Roberts of Pike County; two sisters, Vina Castle of Paintsville and Geraldine Martin of Allen; and 15 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 5, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Manford Fannin and Lowell Webb officiating.
Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

Bertena Ross
1939-2000
Retired teacher’s aide Bertena Moore Ross, 60, died Tuesday, June 6, at her Blaine residence.
Mrs. Ross was born August 29, 1939, in Johnson County, to the late Mart and Clustena Daniels Moore.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Ross; one son, Frank O. Ross of Paintsville; one daughter, Sylvia A. Ross of Wittensville; two brothers, Jimmy Moore of Columbus, Ohio, and Arlie E. Moore of Flat Gap; three sisters, Jewell Hill of Tipp City, Ohio, Charlotte Bishop of Hamilton, Ohio, and Polly Bellinghausen of Mason City, Iowa; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Paul Keaton officiating.
Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery at Flat Gap.

Ernest Castle
1941-2000
Ernest Jim Castle, 58, of Defiance, Ohio, died Monday, June 12, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Mr. Castle was born September 18, 1941, in Paintsville, to the late Fonnie and Molly Sherman Castle. He retired from GM Powertrain in 1993 and was a member of Continental Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby Mullins Castle; one son, Dwayne of Defiance; one daughter, Elizabeth Henderson of Fort Wayne; one brother, Alfred of River; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 15, at Lawson-Roessner Funeral Home, with Revs. Murphy Buell and Terry Brock officiating.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.

Donnie Ferguson
1972-2000
Donnie Gene Ferguson, 28, died Sunday, July 30.
Mr. Ferguson was born May 28, 1972, in Johnson County, to Virgil and Rosetta Jenkins Ferguson. He was employed by Key Energy.
Surviving are his wife, Katina Lynn Estep Ferguson; his parents; four brothers, Virgil Jr., Danny and Joshua Ferguson, all of Flat Gap, and Anthony Ray (Belinda) Ferguson of Red Bush; two sisters, Jennifer (Cecil) Tackett of Sitka and Diana (Brian) Anderson of Providence; one brother-in-law, Bobby (Samantha) Estep of Zanesville, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Michelle (Jim) Hogsett of Sugar Grove, Ohio, and Dawn Woodard; and three nephews and five nieces.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Johnny Estep and Jeff Blanton officiating.
Burial followed in Cammack-Field Cemetery at Flat Gap.

Ethel Ward

Jones-Preston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for Ethel Ward, 85, who died Thursday, July 27, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Ward was born January 1, 1915, in Johnson County, to the late Jessie and Mary Jane O’Bryan Hitchcock.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Crate Ward, on December 14, 1969.
Surviving are one stepson, Chester Ward of Denver; one stepdaughter, Gloria Ward Blair of Paintsville; two sisters, Frances Bradley and Callie Blair, both of Paintsville; and 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 30, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Toby Wheeler officiating.
Burial was in Highland Memorial Park at Staffordsville.

German May
1906-2000
German May, 93, of Leander, died Thursday, July 27, at Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center.
Mr. May was born October 30, 1906, in Johnson County, to the late David Ballard and Minnie Elizabeth Spradlin May. He was a miner.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Edna Ethel May; and a son, Beecher Leroy May.
Surviving are his second wife, Dora May of Leander; four sons, William David May of Claypool, Indiana, Kenneth Wiley May of Norwood, Ohio, Richard Thomas May of Warsaw, Indiana, and Dorvel Eugene May of Etna Green, Indiana; two daughters, Virgie Elenore Rhody and Elizabeth Pearl Walters, both of Walbridge, Ohio; two stepdaughters, Barbara Frances of Palestine, Indiana, and Janet Sue Davis of Warsaw, Indiana; one stepson, Robert May of Claypool, Indiana; three sisters, Alka Nickles of Marion, Ohio, Omega Hood of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Ruby O’Keefe of Indianapolis, Indiana; and 30 grandchildren, 17 step-grandchildren and several great- and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 31, at Beechwall United Baptist Church, with Elders James R. Blair and Gene May officiating.
Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffords-ville, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Montgomery
1938-2000
Former Johnson County resident Shirley A. Montgomery, 61, of Selma, Ohio, died Friday, July 28.
Mrs. Montgomery was born December 21, 1938, in Paintsville, to the late Earn and Dora Phipps Howard. She was a member of South Charleston Freewill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Howard and Roy and Charles Montgomery; and three sisters, Geraldine Click, Lucy Risner and Lottie McFaddin.
Surviving are her husband, Garlin Montgomery; two sons, Rickie Montgomery of Springfield, Ohio, and Ben Montgomery of Selma; two daughters, Denise Bussey and Sheila Ryan, both of Springfield; three sisters, Julie Ratliff of Paintsville, Lola Jackson of Springfield and Myrtle Helton of Bloomington; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1, at Jackson Lytle & Ingling Williams Funeral Home of Springfield, with Revs. Homer Brooks and Larry Blair officiating.
Burial was in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Callie Blair
1933-2000
Callie Blair, 67, of Paintsville, died Saturday, July 29, at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.
Mrs. Blair was born June 29, 1933, in Johnson County, to the late Solon and Mary Jane O’Bryan Prater. She worked at the Dry Cleaners.
Surviving are her husband, Franklin Blair; one son, Dwight F. Blair of East Sparta, Ohio; one sister, Frances Bradley of Paintsville; and two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 1, at Jones-Preston Funeral Home Chapel, with Roy Coffee officiating.
Burial followed in Prater Family Cemetery at Salyersville.
