PERRY CROSS, EX-LEGISLATOR, BUSINESSMAN IN ALBANY, DIES
He served on the State Police Personnel Board and the Clinton County Election Commission. He attended Western and Eastern State Teachers colleges and belonged to the Lions Club. Cross was a real-estate broker and automobile dealer, a trade he began in the early 1930s when he was a teacher in Wayne County. He also had operated Clinton Loan Co. in Albany since 1956. Survivors include his wife, the former Winnie Miller; two sons, Al Cross of Frankfort and David Cross of Albany; a brother, Rex Cross of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Wonnie Allen of Albany; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. CDT tomorrow at Sewell Funeral Home, with burial in Irvin Cemetery.

Mrs. Docia (GRIDER) Freeman, 91, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.M. Heath, in Somerset Friday afternoon at 4:15 o'clock. She had been in declining health for some time. She was born in Clinton County, Kentucky, Aug. 15, 1860. She was married to Thomas Long in her youth and to this union three children, Sylvester Long, deceased, William E. Long of Elizabethton, Tenn., and Mollie Long Kidd, of Somerset, were born. After Mr. Long's death, she was married to J.B. Freeman and to this union was born one daughter, Nannie. L. Heath of Somerset. She accepted Christ in early womanhood and in more recent years joined the Cotter Avenue Church of God. She will long be remembered for her genial nature, her generosity and consideration of others. Her beautiful Christian life was an inspiration to all. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Church of God, the Rev. James Tomlinson and the Rev. Manuel Campbell officiating. Interment in the City Cemetery. Surviving are the three children, William E. Long, Elizabethon, Tenn., Mrs. George Kidd and Mrs. F.M. Heath of Somerset.
