Mya La'Ray Carter, infant daughter of Cessley Carter and David L. Wiley Jr., both of Henderson, died at 5:51 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Community Methodist Hospital. In addition to both her parents she is survived by one stepsister, Tierria Banks of Evansville; two brothers, Devin O. Carter and Jairen D. Bradley, both of Henderson; one stepbrother, Marcellus Washington of Evansville; her grandparents, James and Louetta Hayden and David and Irene Burton, all of Henderson; and her great-grandparents, Elizabeth Carter of Corydon and Mattie E. Gant of of Henderson. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Robert Esters will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Odessa Rhoades, 87, Henderson, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Medco of Henderson. She was a member of Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Henderson. Survivors include two daughters, Mayme E. Suggs and Ida J. Suggs, both of Henderson; two sisters, Virgie McClure and Arlene Robinson, both of Henderson; one grandchild; nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Greater Norris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church The Rev. Wendell Gathings will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson. Rita Jean King, 75, Henderson, died at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at her home here. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died Nov. 29, 1997. Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Ann Perry of Republic, Mo., and Margaret Sutton, Anna Dunkerson and Carolyn Dutton, all of Henderson; three sons, Charles Joseph Shofner of Burgin, Ky., and Albert King and Charles King, both of Henderson; three sisters, Alice Hodgson, Rosella Breeding and Myrtle Babbs, all of Henderson; three brothers, William Thomas Shofner and Jesse Shofner, both of Henshaw, and Robert Shofner of Spring Grove, Ky.; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Market will officiate. Burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery. Willie Bob Johnson
PASADENA, Texas -- Willie Bob Johnson, 62, formerly of Henderson, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at his home here. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Temple and Jerusalem Masonic Lodge No. 9. Survivors include his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Lisa Lynn Paulsen of Trenton, Mo., and Allison Lynn Helton of Henderson; one son, Gregory Stephen Johnson of Lumberport, W.V.; his mother, Lorene Johnson of Owensboro; two brothers, Stanley W. Johnson Jr., of Owensboro and James L. Johnson of Indianapolis; and four grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairmont Cemetery in Henderson. The Rev. OWENSBORO -- Lincoln U. Peters, 81, formerly of Henderson County, died at 6:44 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System here. He was the founder, owner and operator of L.U. Peters Construction Company, and was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He also was a former treasurer, Deacon Emeritus and a charter member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane, who died Jan. 25, 1993. Survivors include two daughters, Martha Jeanne O'Bryan of Owensboro and Cheryl Ann Reiter of Evansville; one sister, Virginia Williams of Reed; two grandsons; two stepgrandchildren; nieces and nephews. MORGANFIELD -- Anna Mae Weldon, 87, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998, at Union County Methodist Hospital here. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, who died in 1980, and one son, Daryl Weldon, who died in 1963. Survivors include one son, Gary Weldon of Morganfield; one sister, Gertrude Jennings of Evansville; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Ann Catholic Church. The Rev. Patrick M. Bittel will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Union County. James Ray Floyd, 81, Henderson, died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Redbanks nursing home. He was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Norma Floyd Gregory of Corydon; one son, James Thomas Floyd of Corydon; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Alberta O'Dell, 83, Henderson, died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at West Park Rehab in Evansville. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ivan, who died in 1980. Survivors include three daughters, Donna Bryan of Evansville, Shirley Beals of Corydon and Bonnie Hailman of Evansville; three sons, Billy Charles O'Dell of Henderson, Tommy G. O'Dell of Arkansas and James Lynn O'Dell of Sebree; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Lucille O. Wilke, 79, Henderson, died at 11:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Redbanks nursing home. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, James W. Wilke, who died in 1962. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Willis W. Wilke Jr.; two sons, Lonnie R. Wilke of Robards and Michael D. MORGANFIELD -- Lucy E. "Betty" Moore, 77, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Community Methodist Hospital in Henderson due to respiratory failure after a long illness. She had been a cook at Patti James' Galahad Restaurant in Evansville and had been employed as a delicatessen manager of the Sureway groceries in Henderson and Morganfield. She had also owned and operated a antique shop in Morganfield and had been a restaurant manager in Morganfield. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerald, who died Sept. 30, 1998, a daughter, Geraldine Moore, and a son, Danny Moore. Survivors include two daughters, Diane Martin and Regina Holland, both of Morganfield; four sons, Michael Moore, Pat Moore and Tim Moore, all of Morganfield, and Colin Moore of Montgomery, Ala.; one sister, Molly Bailey of Milton Keynes, England; one brother, Peter Guile of Durrington Worthine, England; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield. The Rev. Patrick M. Bittel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery in Morganfield. Louis Earl Meadows
CLAY -- Louis Earl Meadows, 72, died at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville from a heart attack. A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he had been a coal miner for many years and had attended the Philadelphian Christian Church in Wheatcroft. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean; three daughters, Marilyn Curry of Clay, Judy McClain of Clarksdale, Miss., and Brenda Taylor of New Shawneetown, Ill.; five sons, Bobby Meadows, Sam Meadows, John Meadows and Steve Meadows, all of Clay, and Jimmy Meadows of Dixon; four sisters, Freda Neal and Jean Nelson, both of Sturgis, Sue Fieldman of Watseka, Ill., and Margaret Blackburn of DeKoven, Ky.; two brothers, Ordis Meadows and Ernest Meadows, both of Sturgis; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Vanover Funeral Home in Clay. Burial will be in New Clay Cemetery in Clay, where there will be full military rites conducted. Grace Eloise Luckett Norton, 92, Henderson, formerly of Morganfield, died at 5 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at her home. She was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Morganfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, George B., who died on April 5, 1984. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Lassila of Henderson; two sisters, Willie Luckett of Morganfield and Pauline Luckett of Fremont, Ohio; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Ann Catholic Church. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield. Frederick Steedly
PROVIDENCE -- Frederick Steedly, 81, Providence, died at 1:31 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. A graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Engineering, he was retired as a metalurgical engineer from Aluminum Company of America and Kaiser Aluminum. He was a retired farmer, a past president of Providence Golf and Country Club and a past council member of Providence City Council. He was also a member, a deacon, a choir member and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Providence. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Clay Steedly; one daughter, Mrs. David (Sally) Kelley of Providence; one son, Dr. George Steedly of Providence; one sister, Margaret Fulton of Louisville; one brother, Elmer Steedly of Louisville; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church. The Revs. Desmond Hargis and Ralph Gill will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Providence. A member of First United Methodist Church in Providence, she was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, who died in 1974. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Denton and Dorothy Bock, both of Providence, and Judith McVay of Clay; one son, John W. Lloyd of Clay; 14 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Townsend-Jones Funeral Home in Providence. She owned and operated DeShields Grocery and was a member of Holy Sprit Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, who died in 1990, and one son, Tom DeShields, who died in 1944. Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Galster of Evansville; one sister, Mary McDermott of Evansville; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
