Services were conducted Tuesday, January 23, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. William Compton officiated with burial in Esham Cemetery at Petersville.

Born May 16, 1918, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Walker Bayless. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Valley Christian Church. Born March 15, 1930, in Greenup County, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Sprinkle Johnson, and was the widow of Hershel E. Cremeans. She was a retired nurse's aide and a homemaker. Services were conducted Monday, January 15, at 11:00 a.m. at Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore. Rev. Clarence Hall officiated with burial in Collier Memorial Gardens in South Portsmouth.

Daisy Mae Butler, 64, of Rt. 2 Vanceburg, died Saturday, January 13, 2001, at 2:54 a.m., at Scioto Memorial Hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio, following an extended illness. Born March 18, 1936, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Nina Smith Cooper, and the widow of Mosie T. Butler who died in 1999. She was a homemaker. Verona Dixon
Verona I. Dixon, 86, of Newport, died Friday, January 19, 2001, at 8:45 a.m., at Lakeland Place Health Center in Highland Heights. Born October 7, 1914, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Jennings and Tillie Thurman Fite, and was the widow of Alvin Dixon, who died in 1952. Services were conducted Tuesday, January 23, at Noon, at Bethel United Methodist Church at Ribolt, with burial in Bethel Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Muehlenkamp-Eschell Funeral Home in Newport.

Vida Johnson
Vida Johnson, 58, of Alliance, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, died Wednesday, January 10, 2001, in Alliance. Born February 24, 1942, in Ashland, she was the daughter of David and Marie Canafax Fielding, and was the wife of John Johnson. She was a member of the Alliance Freewill Baptist Church where she was active in several church activities including the ladies' auxiliary. Services were conducted at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, January 14, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Burial was in the Johnson Cemetery on Bens Run Road in Olive Hill.

Alice Cox
Alice Queen Cox, 86, of Morehead, formerly of Quicks Run, died Sunday, January 21, 2001, at 1:10 p.m. at St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, following an extended illness. Born September 15, 1914, at Queens, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Rose Hamlin Queen. She was a school teacher in the Lewis County School System for more than 42 years, a member of the Kentucky Teachers Retirement Association and the Kentucky Education Association, and a life long member of the Martin Church of Christ at Quicks Run. Services will be conducted Wednesday, January 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Tom Cox Jr. will officiate with burial in Muses Chapel Cemetery at Quicks Run.

Opal Padgett
Opal Celia Himes Irwin Padgett, 81, of Maysville, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001, at Fleming County Hospital, following an extended illness. Born January 20, 1919, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Harlan H. and Minnie C. Irwin Himes, and was the wife of James E. Padgett. She had worked for Trinity School and also owned and operated the Fearis Grocery Store. Services were conducted Thursday, January 18, at 2:00 p.m., at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Burial was in Maysville Cemetery.

Harry Beckett
Harry F. Beckett, 78, of Franklin, Ohio, formerly of Vanceburg, died Thursday, January 11, 2001, at Hillspring Nursing Home in Springboro, Ohio. Born January 20, 1922, in Athalia, Ohio, he was a son of the late O.M. and Berva Burchum Beckett, and was the husband of Mary Ruth Plummer Beckett. He was retired from Armco and was a WWII Navy veteran. Services were conducted Monday, January 15, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Bob Morton officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Frances McClurg Doyle, 65, of Rt. 2 Vanceburg, died unexpectedly Saturday, January 13, 2001, at 9:55 a.m. at her home. Born March 29, 1935, at Kinniconick, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Bessie Riley McClurg, and was the wife of Eugene Doyle. She was retired from US Shoe with more than 23 years service and was a member of Aills Christian Church. Joint services with her daughter, Patricia Ann McGraw who died Sunday morning, January 14, were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Joe Brown and Rev. Harold Killen officiated with burial in Muses Chapel Cemetery at Quicks Run.

Patricia Ann Doyle McGraw, 40, of Rt. 2 Vanceburg, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 14, 2001, at 2:03 a.m. at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. Born September 18, 1960, at Portsmouth, Ohio, she was a daughter of Eugene Doyle of Rt. 2 Vanceburg and the late Frances McClurg Doyle, and was the wife of Alexander McGraw. She was a 1978 graduate of Tollesboro High School, a homemaker, and a member of Clarksburg Church of Christ. Joint services with her mother, who died Saturday morning, January 13, were conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Joe Brown and Rev. Harold Killen officiated with burial in Muses Chapel Cemetery at Quicks Run.

Born March 11, 1923, at Portsmouth, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Leander and Lola Conley Smith. She was a homemaker and attended Aills Chapel Christian Church. Services will be conducted Wednesday, February 7, at 11:00 a.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. John Hamilton will officiate with burial in Flinders Cemetery at Quicks Run. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, and from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services on Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Virginia Faye Ruark, 52, of Vanceburg, died January 23, 2001, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following an extended illness. Born July 8, 1948, in Vanceburg, she was a daughter of Louella Hauck Ruark of Vanceburg and the late Ezra Ruark. She was a 1966 graduate of Lewis County High School and was retired after more than 30 years as deputy clerk with the Lewis County Clerk's Office. She was a member of fly Branch Church of Christ where she was a Sunday School teacher and played piano. Services were conducted Thursday, January 25, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Lynn White and Rev. Kevin Angel officiated with burial in Lewis County Garden Memories at Black Oak.

William Esham
William Clay "Bill" Esham, 88 of Kinniconick, died unexpectedly at 6:10 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2001, at his home. Born March 1, 1912, at Indian Creek, he was a son of the late Richard T. and Lourana Stamper Lykins Esham, and was the husband of Margaret Love Esham. He was retired from the US Department of Agriculture and was a farmer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vanceburg, Masonic Polar Star Lodge #363, the Scottish Rite of the Covington Consistory and Shriner El Hasa Lodge in Ashland. Services were conducted Sunday, January 28, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Howard Wilson officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Masonic rites were provided by Masonic Polar Star Lodge F&AM on Saturday.

Born September 18, 1924, in Lewis County, he was a son of the late William and Mary Irene Thurman McCleese. He was a retired farmer, WWII Army veteran, and a member of Thacker's Chapel Christian Holiness Church. Services were conducted Monday, January 29, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Dean McCleese officiated with burial in Thomas Cemetery at Indian Creek.

Jessie Dunaway
Jessie L. Dunaway, 89, of Vanceburg, did Saturday, January 27, 2001, at 12:35 p.m., at Vanceburg Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Born December 23, 1911, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Virginia Butler Sartin, and the widow of Thomas A. Dunaway who died in 1959. She was a homemaker and, in her earlier years, has assisted a midwife in delivering newborns in Lewis County. She was a member of Petersville First Church of God. Services were conducted Tuesday, January 30, at 1:00 p.m., at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. James Benner and Rev. Gartha Swearingen officiated with burial in Esham Cemetery at Petersville.

Beulah Hook

Born May 1, 1911, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late William Case and Marie Taylor Hampton, and was the widow of Omar D. Hook, who died in 1966. She was a homemaker and had been a cook with the Lewis County School System. She was a member of Rebecca Eastern Star and a lifetime member of East Fork Christian Church, where she served as secretary. Services were conducted Thursday, February 1, at 11:00 a.m., at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Charlie Hampton officiated with burial in East Fork Cemetery.

Born February 22, 1923, in Pikeville, she was a daughter of the late Will and Martha Music Tackett, and was the wife of Freeman L. Mashburn. Everman, and the husband of Edna Mefford Everman. He was a registered surveyor, construction supervisor and was retired as a drug rehabilitation counselor. Services were conducted Thursday, March 29, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Tim Underwood officiated with burial in Everman Cemetery in Carter City.

Born March 28, 1926, at Emerson, he as a son of the late Harvey and Gracie Richmond Thomas, and the husband of Yvonne Owens Thomas. He was a farmer and a member of the Bald Point Church of Christ. Services were conducted Thursday, April 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill. Johnny Jordan and Charlie Riggs officiated with burial in Owens Cemetery at Emerson.

Charles Astin Sparks, 50, of Garrison, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at 10:55 a.m., at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following a brief illness. Born October 5, 1950, in Lewis County, he was a son of Emma Howard Sparks of Garrison and the late Joseph Sparks, and was the husband of Darlene Cooley Sparks. He had worked for the Kentucky department of Parks for the last 16 years. He attended the old Oakland Christian Church in Olive Hill and also attended the Little Country Church in Garrison. Services were conducted Friday, March 30, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Larry Joe Madden and Rev. Rick Seagraves officiated with burial in Jamison Cemetery at Head of Montgomery.

Orville Jarvis
Orville Jarvis, 94, of Seminole, Florida, formerly of the McDermont community, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at his daughter's home in Seminole. Born November 19, 1906, at Olive Hill, he was a son of the late Nels and Bertha James Jarvis, and was the widow of Icy McFarland Jarvis. He was retired from Harvison Walker Foundry in Portsmouth, Ohio where he was a press operator. He was of the Baptist faith. Services were conducted Thursday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Elder Terry Bryant officiated with burial in Waring Cemetery in Garrison.
