He was retired from Lennox Industries and was of the Protestant faith. Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Jim Benner officiated with burial in Black Oak Cemetery.

Dudley Swearingen
Dudley Swearingen, 66, of Garrison, died Friday morning, November 14, 2003, at his home. Born July 21, 1937, in Vanceburg, he was a son of the late John Harry and Nora Lucas Swearingen, and the husband of 31 years of Barbara Swanson Bryan. He was former owner of D&J Dairy Bar in Garrison for more than 20 years. Services were conducted Sunday, November 16, at 1:00 p.m. at Clarksburg Church of Christ. Luke Bentley III and Lyle Parker officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Arrangements were under the direction of Garrison Funeral Chapel.

Jackie Rose
Jackie Ray Rose, 44, of Vanceburg, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003, at Elk Lick Branch as a result of injuries sustained in a logging accident. Born September 18, 1959, in Lewis County, he was a son of Harold Ray and Lillian Toller Rose of Vanceburg, and was the husband of 23 years of Peggy Thompson Rose. He was a 1977 graduate of Lewis County High School and self-employed as a logger. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 5, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Johnny Sparks and Rev. Paul Grey will officiate with burial in Long Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services Friday at the funeral home.

Virginia Silvey
Virginia Rose Silvey, 70, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003, at 11:09 a.m., at Ohio State University Hospital East in Columbus, Ohio. Born September 7, 1933, in Vanceburg, she was a daughter of Thomas and Rose Brown Gasaway Sr., and was the wife of 47 years of Russell Floyd Silvey. She was a homemaker and provided babysitting services at home. She attended Aills Christian Church. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. Phillip Cropper will officiate with burial in Clarksburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday and from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services Saturday at the funeral home.

Cora Susette Rouse Lykins, 83, of Tucson, Arizona, died Sunday, November 23, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital in Rome, Georgia. Born October 29, 1920, in Lewis County, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Washington and Addie Robinson Rouse, and the wife of George Thomas Lykins. She was a custom drapery maker. Services were conducted Saturday, November 29, at 2:00 p.m., at Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Rev. James Robinson officiated with burial in Tollesboro Cemetery.

Betty Brown
Betty Jane Brown, 73, of Vanceburg, died Thursday, November 20, 2003, at her home, following an extended illness. Born May 14, 1930, in Bono, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Newton and Cecelia Perry Zunk, and the wife of Earl Joel "Joe Bud" Brown. She worked for US Shoe for 18 years as a dispatcher and was a member of Rockfork Christian Church. Services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Rev. John "Butch" Kelsey officiated with burial in Armstrong Cemetery at Tannery.

Born January 10, 1934, in Fleming County, he was a son of the late Vinard and Anna Mae Reeder White, and was the husband of Gladys Lucille Adkins White. He was a retired farmer. Frances Chinn
Frances Chinn, 85, of Vanceburg, died Monday, May 24, 2004, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio. Born October 1, 1918, at Thor, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Fannie Webster Childrey, and the widow of Harold Chinn, who died on Jan. 4, 1958. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Bro. Anthony Corns will officiate with burial in Black Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services Thursday at the funeral home.

Ruth Stone Ervin, 95, of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Sunday, May 23, 2004, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth. Born September 19, 1908, she was a daughter of the late William Taylor and Serena Clark Stone, and the widow of Russell Ervin. She was a homemaker and a member of Bivens Chapel Church at Garrison. Services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, may 27, at Bivens Chapel Church. Pastor Paul Clark, Pastor Don Clark and Bro. Joe Walters will officiate with burial in Waring Cemetery. Sanuel McEldowney
Samuel O. McEldowney, 86, of Vanceburg, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at his home, following an extended illness. Born April 3, 1918, at Stricklett, he was a son of the late Samuel A. and Lula E. Miracle McEldowney, and the husband of 67 years of Marjorie Chinn McEldowney. He was employed as a conservation officer for many years with the State of Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources, and then as a conservation education supervisor for several years. He was a Lewis County High School graduate and attended Transylvania College in Lexington for two years. He was a WWII veteran serving as a corporal in the US Army/Air Force. Services were conducted Saturday, May 29, at 1:00 p.m., at Vanceburg United Methodist Church. Rev. Jimmy Vaden officiated with burial in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. Military graveside ries were accorded by American Legion James L. Flanery Post #276 South Shore. Arrangements were under the direction of Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg.

Born July 3, 1961, at Maysville, she was the daughter of the late Albert L. and Patricia Rigdon Poe, and was the wife of James Highfield. She was a 1979 graduate of Mason County High School and had attended Maysville Community College. She was employed with the Kentucky State Cabinet for Families and Children, Department for Community Based Services and Family Support in Vanceburg. She attended East Fork Christian Church. Services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home in Maysville. Rev. C. Wayne Barnett will officiate with burial in Washington Baptist Cemetery.

Thelma Imogene Hardymon, 78, of Bucyrus, Ohio, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at Heartland of Bucyrus. Born May 19, 1926, in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Albert and Mary Fannin Hardymon. She was a cook at the former Point Place Restaurant and also worked in the home health care field. She attended Calvary Baptist church in Bucyrus. Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, Pastor Ken Lance will officiate with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.

Charles Sparks Jr.
Charles Roscoe Sparks Jr., 24, of Garrison, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at the Head of Montgomery, as the result of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident. Born April 14, 1980, at Morehead, he was the son of Darlene Cooley Sparks of Garrison and the late Charles Austin Sparks. He was a 1998 graduate of West Carter High School and was employed as a carpenter. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 2, at 1:00 p.m., at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery at Ribolt.

He was a retired minister and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church in New Castle. Services will be conducted Wednesday, June 9, at 10:00 a.m. at Culberson Funeral Home in Hagerstown, Indiana. Rev.
