Ellen T. Catlett Gabhart , 82, of 1882 Mackville Road, died Wednesday, January 7, 1998 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington. Born September 29, 1915 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Mary Gillis Tindal. She was the widow of Elbert Catlett and Kirby Ray Gabhart. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse at Haggin Memorial Hospital and a member of Glensboro Baptist Church, and a Kentucky Colonel. Survivors include one sister, Irene Edmondson, Lawrenceburg; two step sons, Michael Ray Gabhart, Bossier, LA and Larry Keith Gabhart, Harrodsburg; two step daughters, Jania Maria Reynolds and Jennifer Gayle Jacobi, both of Harrodsburg; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a step son, James G. Catlett and a step daughter, Louise McKinley. Services for Mrs. Gabhart Saturday, January 10, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Christopher Catlett, Jonathan Tugwell, Justin Tugwell, Brandy McKinley, Joseph H. Winford Lee Sallee, age 70, of 3066 Oak Knob Road, LaFayette, TN, died Friday January 9, 1998 at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Born June 28, 1927 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Con B. & Lena Mae Roberts Sallee. He was a retired mechanic and served in the US Army during WW II. He was a member of the Jean Baptist Church in Jean, Texas. Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Nina Gay Harlow Sallee of Olney, Tx; five sons, Tony Sallee of Jean, TX, Bill and Butch Sallee both of LaFayette, TN. Terry Sallee of Carbon, TX and Bruce Sallee of Olney, TX; two daughters, Connie Whitson and Kim Rater both of Olney, TX; two brothers, Bobby Sallee of Danville and Stanley Sallee of Harrodsburg; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Joe Sallee. Funeral services were held Monday, January 12, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Larry Coontz officating. Burial was held in Berea Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Butch Sallee, Jason Sallee, Jeremy Sallee, Ronnie Clarkson, Damon Kelly and Leron Elliott.

Mrs. Mary Carolyn VanArsdall, 73, of 1608 South Shore Dr., Mahomet, IL, died Saturday, January 10, 1998 at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL. Born March 18, 1924 in Madison, IN she was the daughter of the late Albert T. and Nellie Righthouse Matthews. She was a former cashier for Nixon Bank in Newport, IN and had been employed in insurance and real estate in Champaigne-Urbna, IL. She was a member of the Christian Church, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star and had served as past Worthy Matron of Chapter #236. Survivors include: her husband, Roy N. VanArsdall, Mahomet, IL; three sons, Larry D. Scholl, San Francisco, CA; Roy T. VanArsdall, Fredericksburg, VA and Paul J. VanArsdall, Livermore, CA; one daughter, Janet E. Warfield, Urbana, IL; one brother, Clyde Matthews, Vandalia, OH; nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. James Levi Hardin Coyle, 86, of Loretto, formerly of Gravel Switch, died Friday, January 9, 1998 at Federal Hill Nursing Home in Bardstown. Born June 2, 1911 in Casey County, he was the son of the late J. T. and Grace Pipes Coyle. He was the widower of Pearlie Hafley Coyle. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. Survivors include: one daughter, Bertha Blakeman, Richmond; two sons, James Thomas Coyle, Loretto and Paul Hardin Coyle, Lancaster; one sister, Hazel Southerland, Paris; two brothers, Estill Coyle, Des Plaines, IL and Clarence Coyle, Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. William V. (Billy) Medley, Jr., 72, died January 2, 1998 at his residence in Lexington. Born November 14, 1925, he was the son of the late William V. and Laura Beatley Medley Sr. of Harrodsburg. He was an army veteran. Survivors include: four sisters, Mrs. J. D. A native of Frankfort, she was born November 19, 1940, the daughter of the late Bill and Violet Quire O'Neal. She was a homemaker. Survivors include: four sons, Tommy Purvis and Joey Johnson, Frankfort, James Johnson and Tommy Palmer, both of Midway; three sisters, Josette Smith, Harrodsburg, and Lizzie Smith and Gerri O'Neal, both of Frankfort; 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Billy Jack Johnson. Funeral services were held Monday, January 12, at Rogers Funeral Home in Frankfort. FRED MAYES
Fred M. Mayes, 78, Malvern, PA, died Saturday, January 10, 1998 at Paoli Memorial Hospital. Born August 21, 1919 in Camargo, he was the son of the late Fred Overton Mayes. He graduated valedictorian in 1939 from Eastern Kentucky University and subsequently received a Masters Degree in Physics from the University of Kentucky in 1941. Upon graduation he worked for the US Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Washington, DC where he developed several patented inventions instrumental in the Navy's World War II effort. In 1945 he joined Sun Oil Company as a geophysicist. In 1964 he became manager of Sun's Production Research Laboratory in Texas and ascended to several other management positions in Sun. He was serving as vice president of Sun Company upon his retirement in 1981. Over his career, he was the assignor on 49 patents. Survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth Mayes, Malvern, PA; one daughter, Melinda of Reston, VA; one son, Fred Mayes, Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Upper Marlboro, MD; one grandchild; and several relatives in Mercer County, including Jim Harney. Funeral services were held in Cynthiana on Thursday, January 15 at the Whaley-McCarty Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned at Great Valley Presbyterian Church in Malvern, PA on January 24. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the donor's charity of choice or to the Nature Conservancy at 1815 North Lynn Street, Arlington, VA 22209.

Louise Slaughter Rice, 85, of 446 W. Office Street, died Tuesday, January 13, 1998 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born January 27, 1912 in Salvisa, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mayme Poulter Slaughter. She was a former telephone operator, a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church and a 1931 graduate of Midway School. She was a former member of the Homemakers Club and Ladies Circle. Survivors include: her husband, Roy J. Rice; one son, William Ronnie Rice, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren. One son, Donald Rice, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. David Hartman officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. She was retired from the Palm Beach factory, and a member of the Southern Heights Baptist Church. Davis Hyte Ashford, 80, of 2038 Warwick Rd., died Saturday, January 17, 1998 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born February 10, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James and Annie Kurtz Ashford. He was a retired farmer, a Kentucky Colonel, and a life-long member of Joseph Chapel United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the board for 35 years. In 1992 he was named Mercer County Distinguished Senior Farmer for outstanding stewardship and service to the farming community. The award was presented by the Mercer County Farm Bureau and the Mercer County Conservation Services in cooperation with the UK Extension Service. Survivors include: his wife, Louise Jones, Ashford, Harrodsburg; one son, James Hyte (Jim) Ashford, Harrodsburg; four daughters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret Ann) Logue, Mrs. Don (Jo Ellen) Horn, Mrs. Mickey (Janet) Gilliland, all of Mercer County, and Mrs. Stephen (Yvonne) Fox, Shelbyville; two brothers, Garnett and Forrest (Doc) Ashford, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Lawrence (Eva) Lay Jr., Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Cora Ratcliff, Lexington; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was a retired engineer of E. I. DuPont, a member of Middletown Lodge #732 F&AM, Long Run Sportsman's Club and First Baptist Church, Middletown. He is survived by his wife, the former, Ruby Donovan, Louisville; one daughter, Jeri Wilder-Bridgers of Louisville; one brother, Dr. Horace D. VERNICE MILLION
Vernice Ross Million, 69, 473 Mockingbird Hill, died Saturday, January 24, 1998 at her residence. She was born in Mercer Co., May 18, 1928 and was the daughter of the late William and Stella Phillips Ross. She was the widow of James Robert Million. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where she was former secretary of the Adult I Sunday School Department. She was a member of The KY. Federation of Woman's Club of Harrodsburg where she had served as Treasurer and was an Honorary member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She served on the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer worker in the Haggin Hospital Gift Shop. She belonged to the Brightleaf Ladies Golf Group, and was an avid bridge player and also a supporter of the Harrodsburg High School athletics programs. She is survived by; two daughters, Dianne Million Hosey of Midway, and Susan Million Brown of Harrodsburg; two brothers: Ralph Ross of Lawrenceburg and Lynn Ross of Taylorsville; three sisters, Sarah Ross Black and Shirley Ross, both of Harrodsburg, Thelma Ross Hobbs of Lexington; five grandchildren and four step grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church by Dr. Robert DeFoor. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Richard Hosey, Alan Brown, Ross Cairns, Josh Cairns, Seth Cairns, Bob Cairns, and Chase M. Brown. DELMER LYONS
Mr. Delmer Ray Lyons, 65, of 155 Cummins Drive, died Thursday, January 22, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born November 11, 1932 in Somerset, he was the son of the late Charlie and Pearly Wilson Lyons. He was a maintenance employee of North American Phillips Company, formerly Corning of Danville, had served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Chestnut Grove Church of Christ in Parksville. He had served as a lay minister at the Oak Grove Church of Christ and the Rich Hill Church of Christ in Casey County. He was a former coach for the Mercer County Little League and youth sports. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Durham, Lyons, Harrodsburg; two sons, Stephen Lyons and Michael Ray Lyons, both of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Mrs. Dan (Kathy) Albright of Salvisa, Mrs. Kenny (Bitsy) Stephens, Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Thomas (Beth) Carmack, Burgin; two brothers, Robert W. Lyons, Oxnard, CA and Richard Lyons, Monticello; six sisters, Thelma Eastman, Roberta Wilson, Mary George, Ida Burdine and Kay Turner, all of Somerset and Diane Terry of Jellico, TN; 14 grandchildren. One sister, Lucy Dugger, preceded him in death. Funeral services were Monday, January 26, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with James McDonald and Thad Eubank officiating. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers were Raymond Pendygraft, Danny Wilson, Larry Luttrell, Richard Morgan, Rob Harbison and Rick Morgan. CLAYTON LISTER
Clayton Lister, age 69, formerly of Boone Street, Harrodsburg, died Sunday, January 25, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born May 11, 1928 in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Jim and Edith Plummer Lister. He was a former employee of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Danville and was also formerly employed as a maintenance worker for James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. He was a U. S. Army veteran, a member of the Perryville Church of God and was the widower of Lula Preston Lister. Survivors include: two sons, Gerald Clayton Lister, Harrodsburg and Dennis Lee Lister, Burgin; three daughters, Mrs. Bobby (Edith Frances) Warner, Mrs. Leshia Baker and Mrs. Junior (Sandy) Whitis, all of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Gilbert Lister, Mercer County and Clifford Lister, Washington County; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marsha Lister Baker. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 27 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Edward (Buddy) Turpin officiating. Burial was in the Parksville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeffrey Baker, Travis Robinson, Jason Smith, Joey Turpin, Jimmy Turpin and Ronnie Sims. Dorothy Lee Snow Richards, 88, of Hustonville, died Sunday, January 25, 1998 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born November 7, 1909 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late R. D. and Lizzie Sharp Snow. She was the widow of Willie Richards. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ellisburg Baptist Church in Casey County. Survivors include: four sons, Vernon, Harold and Tony Richards, Hustonville, and Larry Richards of Harrodsburg; three daughters, Ruby Richards, Hustonville, Iva Clark, Drakesboro and Audrey Carman of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Myrtle Richards and Edith Sapp, both of Hustonville; one brother, Edward Snow, Hustonville; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth and Horace Richards and two daughters, Kathryn Shewmaker and Millie Richards. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 28, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Hustonville with Rev. Vola Brown and Rev. John Cato officiating. Burial was in the Hustonville cemetery. Jimmy Minton, age 81, of 1577 Curdsville Road, died Saturday at his residence. Born September 16, 1916 in Casey County, he was the son of the late Willie Clay and Ella Florence Martin Minton. He was retired from the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture and a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Lorine Peavler Minton; two sons, Billy Minton, Mercer County, and Stephen Minton, Windsor; two brothers, Stanley Minton, Windsor, Orel Minton, Crawfordsville, IN; three sisters, Marie Gaines, Somerset, Sadie Clines, Windsor and Jewel Thomas of Russell Springs, and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by two brothers Virmon and Clarence Minton and one sister Elfrieda Luttrell. DAVID HARDIN
David Vaughn Hardin, 53, of Warwick Road, Harrodsburg, died Monday February 2, 1998 at the Ephraim McDowell Medical Center. Born May 23, 1944 he was the son of the Dorothy Juanita Proctor Hardin Bussell and the late Edward James Hardin. He was a forklift operator at Matsushita Corporationa and a member of the Eller's Memorial Baptist Church. He was a member of the Forty and Eight Group, the Mercer County Fish and Game Club, and was a past commander of the American Legion Post 52. He also served in the army during the Vietnam era. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife Emma Jean Hardin of Harrodsburg, two daughters, Angelia Combs and Stephanie Hardin both of Willington, NC, one sister, Jolene Phillips of Harrodsburg, two grandsons Andrew Jordan Hardin and Nathaniel Roderick Alston, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 6, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg, with Rev. Dale Denton and Bro. Jerry Payne officiating. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Venice and a board member of the YMCA Cammeron Reed Foundation of Venice. She received a B.S. Supporter, Patricia J. Buster Passes Away
Longtime Midway College supporter, Patricia (Johnson) Buster passed away on Saturday, February 7, 1998, in Venice, Florida. Buster, 87, was married to the late John Ingram Buster, and is survived by two sisters, Hazel Hieronymus of Lexington and Helen Phillips of Pueblo, CO, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. W. R. Buster of Midway. Buster was born in the foothills of Russell County in Southwest Virginia. Upon graduating from Somerset High School in 1928, Buster received a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from the University of Kentucky and studied geology at Colorado College. John and Patricia Buster were married in 1938 and lived in Harrodsburg through the first years of their marriage. She referred to Harrodsburg as her adopted hometown. The couple later moved to Carrollton, where they owned and operated several businesses. In 1973 they moved to Venice, FL but their family name is still recognized in both Kentucky communities. Elected a Midway College trustee emeritus in 1985, Buster served as an active board member for seven years. Her late brother-in-law, General William Buster, who was a staunch supporter of the college and its mission, initiated her involvement with Midway College. Since 1965 Buster was an active supported of Midway College. In 1989 she contributed $250,000 toward the renovation of a residence hall on the college campus. The residence hall, known as Alumnae Hall since 1925 was renamed Buster Hall in honor of the Buster family's many years of service to the college. The John I. and Patricia J. Buster Scholarship Fund and a student lounge named in her honor are representative of several of Buster's previous contributions to the college. Along with her Midway College affiliation, she was a supporter of the University of Kentucky and was involved in many civic affairs in recent years, such as the YMCA, the Venice Theater and Art League and Manatee County Community Colleges in Florida. She also supported the Venice Vikings, an athletic organization designed to give young people an alternative to drugs, and LIFE, which is a treatment program for young people with substance abuse problems. "Pat Buster was a good friend to Midway College for many years. Her generosity and vision enriched our students' experience more than she ever new." said Midway College President Dr. Robert Botkin. "She displayed faith and commitment to our mission time and time again, and we are truly appreciative of her loyalty to Midway." Harry B. Daulton, 82, of 703 Kirkwood Rd., Salvisa, died Sunday, February 8, 1998 at Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born December 30, 1915 in Nancy he was the son of the late Fielce and Effie Gover Daulton and the widower of Elsie Prather Daulton. He was a self-employed farmer, a member of the Salvisa Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for 40 years and was a teacher of the Adult II Men's Sunday School class. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janice) Brogle, Scottsville, Mrs. Darrell (Judy) Agee, Salvisa; three brothers, Everett Daulton, Murrell Daulton and O. D. Daulton, all of Nancy; two sisters, Mrs. Steve (Eva) Holler and Mrs. Dewell (Mary Lou) Trimble, both of Nancy; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Born May 5, 1943 in Casey County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Thelma Wyatt Gourley of Harrodsburg and the late William Curtis Russell. She was an employee of Arby's of Harrodsburg and a homemaker. She was the widow of Buford Carr. Laura H. Prewitt, 87, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, February 15, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. She was born October 12, 1910 in Mercer County, the daughter of the late Robert Sidney and Nancy Bugg Prewitt. She retired from Corning Glass in Harrodsburg and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she was a member of the Glad Hand Sunday School class. She is survived by five nephews and one niece. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 18, at the McClellan Funeral Home with Rev. James Harley officiating. She was a member of the Mackville Baptist Church and was a former employee of Cowden Manufacturing Company of Springfield, General Electric and Cricketeer Manufacturing in Harrodsburg. Survivors include: two sons, Leroy Hendren, Mackville and Jim Hendren, Liberty, MO; five daughters, Mrs. Darrel (Lorraine) Baker and Mrs. Bruce (Linda Gayle) Sims, both of Mackville, Mrs. Joe (Shelby Jean) Russell, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Billy (Rosaland) Hilton, Springfield and Judy Isham, Louisville; one step son, John Harrison Hendren, Clarksville, IN; 19 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Modena Foster, Willisburg; one brother, Conrad Peavler, Mackville. GROVER RELEFORD
Grover Cleveland Releford, 77, of 1417 Cornishville Road, died Tuesday, February 17, 1998 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born July 19, 1920 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Silas and Mary Robinson Releford. He had been employed as a Mercer County School Bus Driver for 19 years and was a farmer. He was a member of the VFW, Post 6935, the DAV and American Legion, and the Masonic Lodge No. 229 for 28 years. He served in the US Army during World War II as a corporal of the 841st Engineer's Division in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was a deacon in the Cornishville Baptist Church where he had served many years as Boy's Youth Leader, a Sunday School teacher and trustee of the church. Survivors include: his wife, Gladys Shewmaker Releford; one daughter, Mrs. Aubrey (Hope Releford) McMullin, Mercer County; one son, Lee Howard Releford, Mercer County; one sister, Mrs. Larry (Madge) Cannada of Mercer County; three grandchildren, five step grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Walter and Harvey Releford, and two sisters, Maude Cannada and Fay Cornish. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Readnour and Rev. Johnnie Hockersmith officiating. Born April 6, 1908 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Hartford "Billy" and Julia Watts Merriman. He was a retired ward attendant at the Kentucky State Hospital.. He was a member of the Berea Christian Church and was the widower of Dea Stevens Merriman. Survivors include: three sons, Everett J. Merriman, Texas, Charles and Arnold Merriman, both of Mercer County; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth Doyle and Helen Frances Ryan, both of Harrodsburg, Edith Pearl Drury of Nicholasville; two stepsons, Steve and John Carter; three stepdaughters, Colleen Stevens, Pat Dawson and Jane Ann Bishop; 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and several step grand, step great and step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one step daughter, Carroll Dean Penton and one step son, Lee Carter. Funeral services were held Sunday, February 15, at the Berea Christian Church with Rev. Harold W. Hawkins, 74, of 203 Lincoln Ave., Lexington, died Thursday, February 19, 1998 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington. Born September 19, 1923 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Raymond and Vera Woods Hawkins. He was an engineer and a member of the Catholic Church. He was an army veteran of World War II. MARCUS PRATHER
Marcus William Prather, 84, of 4342 Cornishville Road, died Saturday at the Sayre Christian Village Nursing Home in Lexington. Born May 6, 1913 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late William Piper and Clara Belle Tribble Prather and the widower of Josephine Draine Prather. As a child, he attended and was a member of the Broadway Christian Church and was the first "Timothy" of that church. As a graduate of Picadome High School in Fayette County, he was given a seven year scholarship to Transylvania and the College of the Bible. He left in his Junior year and enrolled in Cincinnati Bible Seminary where he earned his bachelor and masters degrees. While in a student ministry he helped establish the first Christian Service Camp in Southern Ohio which later became Clermont County Christian Assembly. During the 1940's the Prathers served the Northeast Church of Christ in Columbus, OH for nine years. While there they helped establish another Christian Service Camp which later became Round Lake Christian Assembly. He served in the Ohio Civil Air Patrol during World War II. During the 1950s they served the First Church in Drumright, OK and the Central Church at McAlester, OK. While at McAlester he became Chaplain of the Oklahoma State Prison. Due to the success of that ministry, others were encouraged to enter the prison ministry. In 1957 they moved to Cornishville to minister with the Cornishville Christian Church, where he served as minister for 40 years. He taught a full schedule at Lexington Christian College for three years; taught elementary school for eight years, and was Guidance Counselor for the Mercer County School system for 11 years. He took an elementary major and received a Masters of Education degree at Georgetown College and received a Rank I in guidance and counseling at Eastern Kentucky University. He taught at Louisville Bible College from 1979 to 1986. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #229, the Cornishville Ruritan Club, Mercer County Retired Teachers, active in the Mercer County Chapter of the Red Cross, and served as a member and Chairman of the Mercer County Public Library Board during relocation to its present facility. Survivors include: one son, Kerry Wayne Prather, Frankfort; one daughter, Mrs. David (Kandie) Adkinson, Midway; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Don (Anna Belle) Burrus. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 24, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Oetzel, Bro. Paul Readnour, Bro. Curtis Sims, Bro. L. D. Burrus and Dr. Keith Wiebe officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lexington. Paul Raymond Roher, of Wilmore, retired professor from Asbury College, died Sunday, February 22, 1998, at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington. Born August 3, 1926 in Salem, OH he was the son of the late Raymond and Vera Foreman Roher. A graduate of the Salem City Schools he received a BA from Asbury College, a Masters of Education and additional graduate study at Kent State University. He was a veteran of World War II. He taught public school and served as principal at the elementary and secondary level in Salem, OH. He retired from Asbury College after serving as director of teacher education for 25 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Friends Church of Ohio and regularly attended the Wilmore Free Methodist Church. He also served as Minister of Music at several area churches including Southside Christian Church of Harrodsburg. Survivors include: his wife, M. Margaret Griffin Roher; one daughter, Machel Reynolds; two sons, Paul Roher II and Douglas Roher, all of Wilmore; two brothers, Don Roher, Salem, OH and Joe Roher, Friendswood, TX; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, George Roher. Funeral services will be held at Wilmore Free Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 27. A graveside service will follow at Camp Nelson national Cemetery. CECIL CARPENTER
Cecil Clayton Carpenter, 94, widower of Leola Klopp Carpenter, died Wednesday, February 25, 1998. Born in Mercer County to Elmer Lee and Ellen Foster Carpenter, he was raised in Boyle and Mercer Counties. He was a University of Kentucky Professor of Economics from 1936-1969 and the Dean of Commerce from 1948-1964. He graduated from UK in 1926 and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in 1932. He was one of the first three inductees into the UK College of Business Hall of Fame. Survivors include: a son, Allan Lee Carpenter, Norfolk, VA; two brothers, Frank C. Carpenter, Harrodsburg, and Maurice P. Carpenter, Lexington; three sisters, Valley MeGee, Richmond, Beatrice Shuel, Princeton, IN, and Evelyn Warner, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, March 2, at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Broadway with George C. Stuart officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery. Cierra Nicole Carmicle-Durham, infant daughter of Lori Carmicle and Rodney Durham, both of Harrodsburg, was stillborn Monday, February 23, 1998 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Additional survivors include: one brother, Joseph Daniel Bokros, Harrodsburg; grandfather, Roger Durham, Harrodsburg, grandmother, Mary Stidham, Harrodsburg; grandfather, Phillip Carmicle, Harrodsburg; grandmother, Holly Burke, Nicholasville. Private graveside services were held at Parksville Cemetery on Friday, February 27 with Rev. Edward Turpin. Stith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Letta Lou Spiller, 92, of Winter Haven, FL, died February 13, 1998 at Auburndale, FL. Born December 17, 1905, she was the daughter of the late Abe Lake and Lou Lake of Mercer County. Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda Jean Lawrence, Winter Haven, FL; five sisters, Mabel Drury and Hannah Long, DeKalb, IL, Annelle White, Indianapolis, IN, Doris Disponett, Lawrenceburg, and Aleene Long of Harrodsburg; one brother, Ernest Lake of Haines City, FL; one granddaughter and one great grandson. Funeral services were held Monday, February 16 at the Ott-Laughlin-Glen Abby Chapel at Winter Haven, FL. Burial was in Glen Abby Memorial Gardens, Auburndale, FL.

ROSA STRATTON
Rosa Mae Camic Stratton, 98, of 1620 Ballard Road, Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, March 4, 1998 at the home of her sister, Corine Cubert. A native of Anderson County she was the daughter of the late J. N. and Emma Pinkston Camic. She was the widow of Samuel Boas Stratton. She was a former co-owner of S. B. Stratton General Store and a member of Ballard Baptist Church. Survivors include: one son, Samuel Boas Stratton, Jr. and his wife Faye, Mercer County; one daughter, Emma Mae Hughes, Anderson County; two sisters, Corine Cubert and Mrs. Enoch (Laurine) Cubert, both of Lawrenceburg; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, James Raymond Stratton, William Stratton, and three brothers, Raymond, Rufus and J. W. Camic. Funeral services were held Friday, March 6, at the Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Goshen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Doug, Ricky, Dallas, Jimmy, Troy Stratton and Jody Hughes.

Margaret Routt Chilton, 79, of Ada Drive, Harrodsburg, KY died Friday, March 6, 1998 at her residence. Born March 18, 1918 in Woodford Co., KY she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Ethie Routt Coubert. She was a homemaker and a member of the Claylick Methodist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Melvin Chilton, Harrodsburg; three sons, Ralph Chilton, Lawrenceburg, Harold Chilton, Nashville, TN, and Raymond Chilton, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Hazel Riley, Lawrenceburg, and Pauline Fannin, Harrodsburg; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg with the Reverend Lowell Langfield and the Reverend Bob Reid officiating. Burial was in Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons: Edwin Riley, Kenny Ray Chilton, Ricky and Bryan Fannin, Harold Wayne Chilton, Chris Chilton, Kevin Chilton, and Jeremy Chilton.
