Augusta Lyons Sallee, 86, of 5901 Fairington Drive, Louisville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at the Mount Holly Nursing Center in Louisville. Born April 5, 1912 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late John William and Mary Frances Sallee Lyons. She was a member of the Shakertown Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, James A. Sallee, Louisville; two sons, Jim and John Sallee, both of Louisville; three daughters, Mary DeVary, Margaret Watts and Betty Buckley, all of Louisville; one sister, Ruby Mullins, Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 7, at the McClellan Funeral Home with Rev. David Collier and Rev. Gilbert Robinson officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Christine Carey Arnold, 87, of Main Street, Mackville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville. Born May 2, 1911, in Mackville, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Naomi Taylor Carey. She was the widow of Thomas Eugene Arnold. She was co-owner, with her husband of Arnold Funeral Home, for more than 50 years and a member of the Mackville Christian Church, where she was organist. Survivors include a son, Glen A. Arnold of Mackville; a brother, Warren Carey of Springfield; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held Sunday, March 7, at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield, by Rev. David Shanklin. Burial was in Peter Cemetery, Mackville. Myrtle Mae Eades, 62, of 2133 Azelia Street , Lexington, died Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born February 28, 1937 in Jessamine County, she was the daughter of Mrs. Virginia Smith Flannery of Burgin and the late Hargis Flannery. She was the widow of Denny Eades. She was the former owner of House of Eades in Lexington, and was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her son, Donald Sexton, Jr., of Burgin; two grandsons, Lewis and Brian Sexton, both of Burgin. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 9, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey and Bro. Pat Wren officiating. Burial was held in Burgin Memorial Gardens. MARSDON SIMS
Marsdon Sims, 73, of 4301 Cornishville Road, husband of Margaret Logue Sims, died Friday, March 5, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born March 18, 1925 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Hollie and Maggie Taylor Sims. He was formerly employed at Arnold's Nursery and was a farmer. He was a member and elder of Cornishville Christian Church. Survivors, besides his wife, include: two sons, Curtis (Diane) Sims, Kenny (Frankie) Sims, all of Mercer County; one sister, Rosalyn Travis, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one brother, Haldon Sims. Funeral services were held Monday, March 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Leonard Price and Rev. David Cornish officiating. Burial was in Grapevine Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Larry Sims, Gary Sims, Donnie Sims, Tommy Logue, Reed Arnett and Vincent Kinder. Johnny Bruce Camic, 39, of 715 Cummins Ferry Road, Salvisa, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 in Harrodsburg. Born September 12, 1959, he was the son of Fern Murphy Camic of Harrodsburg and the late Speed Camic. He was a 14 year veteran police officer with the Harrodsburg Police Department and was a member of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist church. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Cynthia Ann Arnold Camic, Mercer County; one son, Jonathan Gage Camic, at home; two daughter, Morgan Bree and Chancey Anne Camic, both at home; three brothers, Earl Floyd, Larry Stephen and George Allen Camic, all of Harrodsburg; three sisters, Patricia Ruth Hayden and Marie Joyce Hahn, both of Harrodsburg, and Betty Jo Richmond, Lawrenceburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 10, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church with Rev. James Harley and Rev. Phillip Yates officiating. Mayor Carol Dean Walters gave a eulogy. MARY JONES
Mary Clarence Chelf Jones, 80, of 111 South Greenville Street, died Sunday, March 7, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 15, 1918 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Mary Clarence Norris Chelf. Encouraged by her mother, Mary began her musical career at a young age and developed a life-long love of the arts. She entered her formal training at Georgetown College and afterwards earned her Master's Degree at the Cincinnati Conservatory. She was a soloist for three years at St. George's Episcopal Church in New York city and made her professional debut in New York's Times Hall and has sung in Carnegie Hall. She was the widow of Lawson Jones and she and her husband spent summers teaching at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, MI. She taught voice at the Interlochen Arts Academy for twelve years before moving back to Harrodsburg in 1983. She was the founder of the Ragged Edge Community Theater in Harrodsburg and dedicated her later life to make the arts a part of community life in Harrodsburg. Survivors include three nieces: Patricia M. Ganter, Barbara M. Goodbody and Ann M. Stack. Memorial services will be held at a later date, to be announced. He was a self-employed excavation contractor, an air force veteran of World War II, and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, where he served as trustee. Roland Joseph Harp Sr., 68, of 926 Chimney Rock Road, died Saturday, March 6, 1999 in Palm Springs, CA. Born February 4, 1931 in Albuquerque, NM, he was a son of the late Roland M. and Martha Jones Burger Harp. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a member of First Christian Church in Danville, Lexington Chamber of Commerce, a life member of both the University of Kentucky Alumni Club and the University of Kentucky Faculty Club, former member of the Danville County Club, Printing Industries of America, Printing Industries of the South, Kentucky Association of County Officials, Kentucky Association of County Clerks, International Association of County Clerks and Recorders and the Chimney Rock Village Association. He also served in the US Navy. He was a retired chief executive officer and owner of Harp Enterprises Commercial Printing firm and had been an election services provider and a recognized expert in election law in the state of Kentucky. Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Shely Harp, Harrodsburg; three sons, Roland J. (Donna) Harp Jr., Winchester, Daniel Lee Harp, Lexington, Stanley Simmons (Deborah) Harp, Georgetown; one daughter, Meagan B. Edward Samuel Royalty, 80, of 105 Donna Drive, Lawrenceburg, died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington. Born February 15, 1919 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Samuel S. and Addie Merritt Robinson Royalty. He had lived in Anderson County 52 years. He was the former co-owner of Brown and Royalty Used cars in Frankfort, and was owner-operator of Baker's Service Master in Frankfort for 18 years until his retirement in 1982. He was a member and deacon emeritus of the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church and a member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School class. He was a former member of the Alton Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon in 1954. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps, 6th Division, during WWII. Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Isabelle Hurst Royalty, Lawrenceburg; two daughters, Mary Barbara Stratton, Campbellsville and Mrs. Bill (Joan) Stewart, Hazard; one son, Dale Edward (Cindy Coyle) Royalty, Nashville, TN; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a great grandchild, Paige Whitaker; a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Mary Royalty) Phillips, and a brother, Elwood (Woody) Royalty. Born June 19, 1922, in Boyle County, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Ethel Reece Yates. She was the widow of Leo Reed. She was a former employee of Hub Frankel in Danville, a Red Cross volunteer and was first president of the auxiliary at the Medical Center of Southern Indiana. She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Thomas E. Campbell B. Sampson, 81, of 335 Old Danville Road, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 17, 1917 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Eva Ella Brown Sampson. He graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1936, was a nurse, and had worked in Louisville and Danville. He returned to Harrodsburg in the late 1970s to care for his aging parents and developed an interest in horticulture. Survivors include: two sisters, Sarah Sampson, Louisville, Mrs. C. L. (Emma Jean) Rehkopf, Seattle, WA; two brothers, Winfield (Bud) Sampson and Logan Sampson, both of Harrodsburg. Funeral services were held Friday, March 12, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Barry Jeffries officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were John Blacketer, Charles Welch, Andrew Alexander, Julian Sampson, J. L. Sampson and Elmer Sampson. Jonathan Brown Barker, 88, of Westwood Drive, Lawrenceburg, formerly of Mercer County, died Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. He was the widower of Elva Prather Barker and the son of the late Carl Barker and Lara Brown Barker. He was a resident of Mercer County from 1943 to 1991. He was a Pulaski County native, a member of the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church and a former member of the Salvisa Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge in Salvisa. He was a charter member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau where he served as director for many years. Survivors include: two sons, Norman D. (Patsy) Barker, Lawrenceburg, Donald P. (Terry) Barker, Florence; one daughter, Lois Mateus (Tim) Peters, Louisville; one brother, Robert Barker, Somerset; three sisters, Nany Norfleet, Jean Tyler and Gracie Lou Barker, all of Pulaski County; eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
