Ollie Taylor Cornish, age 88, of 1925 Warwick Road, died Sunday, March 21, 1999 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center. Born January 26, 1911 in Anderson County she was the daughter of the late Ivan Marshall and Effie Stratton Taylor. She was a former employee of Cricketeer and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include: two brothers, Wesley Ivan Taylor and John D. Taylor, both of Indiana; one sister, Lila Linney, IN, three grandchildren, Barbara Jo Cornish and Mary Lee Cornish, both of Mercer County, and Marsha Gullet, Harrodsburg; one daughter-in-law, Nancy P. Cornish, Harrodsburg; one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by one son, William Marshall (Billy) Cornish; one daughter, Barbara Ann Cornish; one brother, Leroy Taylor; and two sisters, Lydia Green and Nellie Royalty. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 24, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jimmy Taylor, Mike Taylor, Duran Taylor, Benet Linney, Robert Linney, Arnold Bruce Martin, Dale Stumph and David A. Taylor.

Rhonda Kay Monroe, 37, of 1790 Curdsville Road, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born September 26, 1961 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Shirley A. Cook Egbert of Mercer County and the late Joe Willie Egbert. She was a homemaker and a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, John A. Monroe, Harrodsburg; one son, Michael Lynn Devine, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Shelly Kay Devine, Elizabeth Jean Devine and Kelly Joe Devine, all of Mercer County; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Dena Egbert, Salvisa; one brother, Ronnie Joe Egbert, Mercer County; two sisters, Angie Lynn Devine and Bonnie Jo Egbert, both of Mercer County. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 25, at 2:00 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey officiating. Burial will be in the Ebenezer church of Christ Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Gibson, Dale Fraley, Gary Lowry, Jim Gibson, Gary Allen Lowry and Ronnie Devine. Visitation will be from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Alice R. Clark, 88, of 721 16th Street, Ashland, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at the residence of her niece in Wurtland. Born September 19, 1910 in Bondville, she was the daughter of the late E. Pierce and Sallie Bunton Royalty. She was the widow of Robert Clark. She had worked as a teacher in the Cincinnati School System. Survivors include: four nieces, Clyetta Harris, Wurtland, Sally Royalty, Greer, SC, Patsy Short and Sallie Peel, both of Nicholasville. Private burial will be in Kirkwood Cemetery at a later date. There will be no visitation. Ransdell Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Billy Marshall Washburn, age 57, of the Mooresville community of Washington County, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at Norton Spring view Hospital in Lebanon. Born March 18, 1942 in Nelson County, he was the son of the late Leslie and Gertie Bunch Washburn. He was a farmer and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Survivors include: his wife, Lois Ann Mattingly Washburn; two sons, Charles Wayne Washburn and William Marshall Washburn, both of Mooresville; three brothers, Herman "Bo" Washburn and Danny Washburn, both of Lebanon, Dave Washburn, Mooresville; five sisters, Mrs. Abe (Betty) Vineyard, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Paul (Mary Ann) Moore and Carolyn Sue Brummett, both of Lebanon, Margaret Jones and Judy Packer, both of Indianapolis, IN. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Jean Washburn; two brothers, Shirl Washburn and Ray Washburn. Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Rev. J. H. Burns officiating. Burial was in the New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Washburn, James Washburn, Milton Washburn, Ricky Moore, Tommy Moore and James Bunch.

J. P. "PETE" PEAVLER
J. P. "Pete" Peavler, age 67, of 476 North Main Street, died Friday, March 26 at his residence. Born August 18, 1931 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Fred and Ethel Vanarsdall Peavler. He was the widower of Edith Turner Peavler. He was a retired painter and employee of the Harrodsburg Methodist Church, where he attended. Survivors include: two sons: John Wayne (Rhonda) Peavler, Harrodsburg, Freddie (Kim) Peavler, Burgin; one daughter, Phyllis (Earl) Sheets, Lexington; four sisters, Mrs. Lela Brumback and Mrs. Imogene Carey, both of Harrodsburg, Mrs. Elizabeth Disponette and Mrs. Doris Freeman, both of Lexington; nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Melinda Peavler. Funeral services were held Monday, March 29, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Girard officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ronnie Lee Morris, Marty Jacks, Jeff Phillips, Chad Nevius, Jamie DeHart, Brent DeHart, Randy and Adam Peavler. Mary C. Pullam, 83, of Lincoln Terrace Apartments, in Stanford, died Friday, March 26, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born November 24, 1915 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Josie Caldwell. She was the widow of Vonnie Pullam. She was a homemaker and a member of the South Fork Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Hershel Ray Pullam, Harrodsburg and Ralph Pullam, Hustonville; four daughters, Mary Edith Dean and Sarah Francis Carlisle, both of Marysville, IN, Fern McFerron, Mt. Vernon, Doris Jean Clark, Perryville; one step daughter, Opal Sweet of Waynesburg; one brother, Chester Caldwell, Eubank; 26 grandchildren, 42 Great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. CHARLES YATES
Charles L. Yates, Springfield, MO, died Friday, March 12, 1999 in Cox Medical Center South of a heart attack. Born February 24, 1928 in Preble County, OH, he was the son of the late Herbert and Louise Yates. The family moved to Mercer County near Dugansville when he was a small child, then to Harrodsburg where he graduated from Harrodsburg High School in 1946. He attended Asbury College and graduated from the University of Kentucky. He was a retired medical administrator, a 20 year Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean and Vietnam eras. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Downtown Rotary Club. Survivors include: his wife, Rene, whom he married May 28, 1954; one daughter, Dr. Karen Yates (John) Bey, Cape Girardeau, MO; one son, Dr. Mark (Katherine) Yates, Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren; an uncle, Haldon (Shorty) Yates and an aunt, Wilma Corn, both of Harrodsburg. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 16, in Hazelwood Cemetery with Rev. Bill Moore officiating. Memorials are suggested to the charity of one's choice. Greenlawn Funeral Home South was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Ham Jenkins, 74, of 3933 Forsythe Drive, Lexington, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at her residence. Born November 25, 1924 in Fayette County, she was the daughter of the late John and M. Katherine Feck Ham. She was a former assistant credit manager at Purcell's Department Store and cashier for the Lexington Herald-Leader. She attended Wolf Run and Lafayette schools. She was a member of the Tates Creek Christian Church, Crass and Crown class, Ruth Circle, and sung many years in the church choir. Survivors include: three sisters, Pauline Ham Hayden, Anne E. Ham, and Betty J. Ham, all of Lexington; two brothers, H. W. "Bill" (Shirley) Ham, Cynthiana, and Robert "Bob" (Ann C.) Ham, Burgin. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Tates Creek Christian Church in Lexington with Brad Walden and James Walters officiating. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery in Jessamine County. Memorial contributions are suggested to Tates Creek Christian Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504. Visitation will be after 4:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel and after 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Homer J. Aebi, 80, of 44733 Forest View Road, Deland, FL, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Memorial Hospital West Volusia. Born May 27, 1918 in Canton, OH , he was the son of John and Ruth Ella Getty Aebi. He was a retired truck driver for Bloom & Klein Wholesale Grocery and was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple, Canton, OH. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the army from February 3, 1942 to January 3, 1946. He was a member of the DAV, VFW and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include: his wife, Idamay Aebi, Deland, FL; two sons, Homer Aebi Jr., Norman, OK, and Michael Aebi, Tampa, FL; two daughters, Sharon Paul, Massilon, OH, and Melissa Brown, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Freda Frederick and Mary Gogle, both of Massillon, OH; 13 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel in Harrodsburg with Bro. Robert Logue officiating. Burial was in the Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Nicholasville, with military rites. Pallbearers were Homer J. Aebi Jr., Michael A. Melvin Chilton, 83, of 634 Ada Drive, died Monday, March 29, 1999 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. Born March 18, 1916 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Ralph and Minnie Robinson Chilton. He was the widower of Margaret Routt Chilton. He was a retired farmer and a member of Claylick Methodist church and St. John Masonic Lodge. Survivors include: three sons, Ralph and Harold Chilton, both of Lawrenceburg, and Raymond Chilton of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Pauline Fannin, Harrodsburg, and Hazel Riley, Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Linwood Chilton, Harrodsburg, and Everett Chilton, Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Allie Bell Coke, Harrodsburg, and Katherine Jeffries, Lawrenceburg; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Hugh Delaney and Lowell Langfeld officiating. Burial will be in the Hebron Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Edwin Riley, Kenny Ray Chilton, Ricky Fannin, Bryan Fannin, Harold Wayne Chilton, Chris Chilton, Kevin Chilton and Jeremy Chilton. Robert Lewis Meadows, 36, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday March 28, 1999 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, as a result of being struck by an automobile. He was born in 1962 at Ft. Campbell and was a painter. Survivors include: his wife, Jane Elizabeth Davis Meadows; two sons, Raymond and Joshua Davis Meadows; one daughter, Elizabeth Jane Meadows, all of Orlando, FL; his parents, Bobby and Felicia Hamlin Peach Meadows, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Laura Bowen and Deby Spradlin, both of Harrodsburg. Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31 at the W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland, in Lexington, conducted by Rev. Dan Bishop. Burial will be at the Nancy Grave Cemetery in McCreary County.

Born September 23, 1967 in Fayette County, he was the son of Helen Smith Price of Harrodsburg, and the late Buford Kenneth Price. He was a self employed painter and a member of the Herrington Lake Pentecostal Church. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: his wife, Patricia Gayle Schmiers Price, Parksville; maternal grandmother, Anna Smith, Lexington; paternal grandfather, Clarence Price, Junction City; two sons, Robert Kenneth and Brandon Lee Price, Parksville; one daughter, Tricia Marie Price, Parksville; five half brothers, Buford Price, Jr., Elmer, Gary, Stuart, and Fred Price, all of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Joyce Michelle Price Durham, Harrodsburg; one half sister, Beverly Sue Stinnett, FL. Funeral services will be conducted at the Herrington Lake Pentecostal Church at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, with Bro. Hamp Wooten officiating. Burial will be in the Junction City Cemetery. CECIL SHAFER, MD
Cecil Wendell Shafer, MD, 89, of 456 Chimney Rock road, died Wednesday, March 31, 1999 at the Hospice Center in Lexington. Born July 1, 1909 in Walton, he was the son of the late Holly M. and Lily Margaret Samples Shafer. He was an Army veteran of World War II, rank of Major, and a member of the Burgin Christian Church, where he taught Bible class for a number of years. He was a graduate of Marshall University, attended the University of West Virginia Medical School and graduated from the University of Louisville Medical School. He was a retired medical school professor, having served as the head of the Department of Anesthesiology at both the University of Arkansas and the University of Louisville. Survivors include: his wife, Frances Dillard McQuire Shafer, Clark County; two sons, Rev. John Shafer, AK and James Shafer, Shelbyville, TN; two sisters, Thelma Thaxton, Cottageville, WV and Fae Chenoweth, Clendinin, WV; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 2, at the Burgin Christian Church by the Rev. Mark Caldwell-Reiss. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson Cemetery, Jessamine County. Pallbearers will be Winston Clifton, Tom Thaxton, Scott Shafer, and Bob Rapp. Honorary bearers will be Sunday School class members. Survivors include: his wife, Linda Long Watts, Harrodsburg; two sons, Chris Watts and Jeff Watts, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Carolyn Harrison, Danville; three brothers, Rev. John Watts and Roy Watts, both of Mercer County, and Terry Watts, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Mrs. Randall (Charlotte) Settles, Mercer County, Mrs. Charles (Ruth) Oglesbee, Paris and Mrs. Jerry (Glenda) Coleman, Harrodsburg; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Watts. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story and Rev. John Watts officiating. Maude Rose VanArsdall Terhune, 92, of 129 Clay Avenue, Lexington, died Saturday evening, April 3, at the Lexington Health Care Center. She was born in Harrodsburg January 7, 1907, and was the daughter of the late Riker and Maude Rose VanArsdall. She was the widow of Lafon Terhune. She was a retired secretary from the University of Kentucky College of Electrical Engineering and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lexington. Survivors include: two daughters, Sarah Terhune Brice and Diana Terhune, both of Lexington; two sisters, Margaret Kitchen, Versailles and Sarah Underwood, Shelbyville; two granddaughters, Lafon Rose Brice, Georgetown, and Mary Ann Batten, Harrodsburg; three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, April 6 at the McClellan Funeral Home by Rev. Howard Willen. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were William V. Underwood, John Grant, Don M. Sweet, Fred Langsdale and Ed Brice. Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, West High Street, Lexington.

Thomas "Tom" Moberly, 66, of 431 Rogers Road, Lexington, died Tuesday, March 30, 1999 at University Hospital. A native of Woodford County, he was a son of the late William Ramsey and Eliza Helen Howard Moberly. He was a former inventory supervisor for Begley s Drug Stores. Survivors include: two daughters, Sandy (Gerald) Kavanaugh, Waco, Sheila (Tony) Mondelli, Lexington; one son, William (Lucinda) Moberly, Williamsburg; three brothers, Oscar Moberly, Lexington, Garnett and Collis (Buzz) Moberly, both of FL; two sisters, Louise Woods, Harrodsburg, and Mary Ann Yates, Lexington; three grandchildren, one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Moberly. There were no services nor visitation. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington was in charge of arrangements.

Rev. James M. Gilbert, Jr., 88, of Melbourne, FL, formerly of Bell County, died Friday, April 2, 1999 at the Arbors at Melbourne. Born in Barbourville, July 25, 1910, he was the son of the late Judge James Marion Gilbert, Sr., and Amanda Davis Gilbert. He graduated from Pineville High School, Centre College and the Louisville Presbyterian Seminary. He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. During a lifelong ministry as a Presbyterian minister, Rev. Gilbert served churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and Texas and after retirement, he served as an interim pastor for churches in Florida. Survivors include: his wife, of 60 years, Edith VanDiver Gilbert of Melbourne, FL; a son, James M. (Jane Royalty) Gilbert, of Marshfield, MA; one sister, Mrs. James M. (Sarah) Pursifull, Sr.; one brother-in-law, Murrell Cawood; two grandchildren, one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. D. D. (Mary) Stewart and Mrs. Murrell (Sophia) Cawood. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999 at the Pineville Memorial Cemetery with Rev. James Woodring officiating.
