JOHN CARTER
Dr. John Carter, 87, 105 John Street, Stanford, died Thursday, June 17, 1999 at his residence. A native of Lincoln County, he was born August 6, 1911, the son of the late John J. Carter and Mary Riatt Carter. He was a minister and past president of Campbellsville College, Carter Hall being named after him, and a member of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Stanford. He was a member of the Stanford Rotary Club. He had formerly pastored several churches, including the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. He had authored several books and was listed in Who's Who of the South and Southwest, and in The Religious Leaders of America. He received his bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky in 1934, Masters from Southern Baptist Seminary in 1937 and his Ph.D. from Southern Baptist Seminary in 1941. Survivors include: his wife, Lenora McCurry Mink Carter, Stanford; one son, John Mark (Cindy) Carter, Campbellsville; three daughters, June (Jim) Braden, Danville, CA, Jill McClesky, and Jinny (Tony) Palmerino, both of St. Petersburg, FL; seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Winslow Carter and a sister, Dolla Carter. Funeral services were held Monday, June 21, at 2:00 p.m. at the Calvary Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Michael James officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Halls Gap. Pallbearers were Barry Braden, Brian Braden, Brad Braden, Sean Fletcher, Kim Alford and Johnny Kolasa. BRENDA GALLOWAY
Brenda Sue Durham Galloway, 59, of Harrodsburg, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born July 7, 1939 in Yosemite, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Ruth Rainey Durham. She was a volunteer for Boyle County High school Sports and a member of Salt River Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Joey Galloway, Danville, Scott Galloway, Hustonville; one daughter, Mysti Chaney, Lawrenceburg; three brothers, Chester B. Durham, Somerset, Rev. John E. Durham, Yosemite, and Richard M. Durham, Louisville; two sisters, Jeannette Thompson, Danville and Mary Lou Lyons, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren, three step children and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Stith Funeral Home in Danville. Memorials are suggested to the Boyle County Humane Society. PAULINE BUGG
Pauline D. Bugg, 63, of 2110 New Dixville Road, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. Born May 7, 1936 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruby Devine. She was the widow of Donald Bugg. She was a rural mail carrier and a member of the Benton Baptist Church. Survivors include: two sons, Steve and Mark Bugg; one daughter, Robin Bugg; one brother, William Devine; three sisters, Edna Bradley, Alberta Bugg and Mrs. Tommie (Frances) Hill; two grandchildren, all of Mercer County. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cleo Bugg. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John David Lane and Ernest Martin officiating. Patricia A. Butler, 60, of 430 Bates Street, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999 at the Fort Walton Beach Hospital, Fort Walton Beach, FL. Born October 4, 1938 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Elwood Butler and Hazel Wilder Mayes Liddle. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. Survivors include: two daughters, Deborah Ann Creech, Petaluma, CA, and Donna Creech Moore, Lexington; three sons, James Douglas Creech, Lexington, Ronald Thomas Creech, Georgetown and Mark Edward Creech, Richmond; one brother, Robert Owen Butler, Versailles and six grandchildren. Dora L. Hungate, 94, Harrodsburg Health Care Center, died at the Center Monday, June 28, 1999. Born March 13, 1905 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James Turner and Ezra Dora Darland Hungate. She was a homemaker and a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 30, at the McClellan Funeral Home by Rev. Les Rust. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. LEWIS MOSS
Lewis Moss, 81, 330 Bellchase Drive, Nicholasville, formerly of Danville, died Thursday, June 24, 1999 at the Veterans Hospital in Lexington. Born August 5, 1917 in Anderson, Indiana, he was the son of the late Theodore and Mary Moss of Jessamine County. He was retired from Keebler Company, was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the US Army in World War II. Survivors include: one daughter, Dorothy (Eladia) De Lean, Georgia; one son, Jerry (Peggy) Moss, Burgin; three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Monday, June 28, at Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville. Pallbearers were Ray Moss, Billy Moss, Teddy Moss, Ashley Moss, Danny Moss and Rodney Moss.

Born October 20, 1932 in Wilmore, she was the daughter of the late James and Pearl Pulliam Bottoms. She was a homemaker and a member of the Mt. Freedom Baptist Church in Wilmore. Survivors include: her husband, Allen Van Lenten, Danville, step-mother, Janet Bottoms, Wilmore; two sons, Buford (Susan) Shearer, Harrogate, TN and James (Renee) Shearer, Burgin; three sisters, Thelma McCord, Albany, GA, Dorothy Morris, Wilmore, and Betty Jo Morris, Danville; one step sister, Carolyn Walters, Garrard County; one step brother, Alvin Fielders, Wilmore; six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Wells and Mable Carpenter; three brothers, Buddy, Bobby and Peck Bottoms. Michael Wayne Ashford Clark, 7, of 220 Heritage Woods, died Monday, June 28, 1999 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born September 16, 1991 in Lexington, he was the son of Diana Lynn Whittaker Clark and the late Mark Carter Ashford. He was a student at the Central Kentucky Christian School. Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: two brothers, Matthew Edison and Christopher Eric Clark; maternal grandparents, Donald Wayne and Jacqueline Whittaker; paternal grandparents, Forest (Doc) and Nell Ashford; all of Mercer County. BEULAH CLAUNCH
Beulah Bottom Claunch, 85, of 955 New Dixville road, widow of Frank Claunch, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 2, 1913 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Willie G. and Laura Toms Bottom. She was retired from the Mercer County Board of Education after 36 years and was a member of the Mercer County Farm Bureau. She was a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for several years. Survivors include: two sisters, Hazel Click, Springfield and Julie Peavler, Harrodsburg; two granddaughters, Mrs. Ken (Alexia) Brock, Evansville IN and Debbie Claunch, Harrodsburg; two great grandsons, Kevin Franklin Brock and Ryan Alexander, both of Evansville. She was preceded in death by a son Cleo Harlan Claunch. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 3, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Redding officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles T. Pinkston, Kenneth Huffman, Kyle Bailey, Charles Matherly and Ronnie Sims. Honorary bearers were members of the Faith Sunday School Class of the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church and her former co-workers at Mercer County Schools. RANDY FOLGER
Randy L. Folger, 47, of 3291 Shakertown Road, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 on US 68 at Chinn Lane from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was the Music and Special Programs Manager at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, where he performed four concerts per day every weekday from April through October. During the winter, he performed candlelight concerts and researched Shaker journals and hymns. He recorded three albums of Shaker music and transcribed a Pleasant Hill hymnal into modern notation. "Randy was a very gifted musicologist, interpreter and singer of Shaker songs," said James C. Thomas, President and CEO of Shaker Village. "He had a wonderful luminous spirit and was for Shaker Village the embodiment of our staff. Randy was beloved by his co-workers and the many thousands of visitors who came to Shaker Village annually. He touched each of us with his great talent and he will be sorely missed by his family and many friends." Folger was an accomplished speaker on the subjects of Shaker history, music and theology and traveled around much of the country lecturing at Elderhostels, schools and for special groups. He wrote and performed an original theater piece based on the worship and dance of the Shakers in 1998 with the South Bend Symphonic Choir of South Bend, IN. Born June 13, 1952 in Ft. Lewis, WA, he was the son of Rev. Richard K. and Elaine D. Lamb Folger of Mansfield, OH. He moved with his family to Kentucky when he was 6 and lived in several Kentucky communities. He attended Bob Jones University and Western Kentucky University. He left college to pursue a career in purchasing that lasted 14 years, but his love was always music. In 1990, he went to Shaker Village to sing and research the music of the Shakers. He also was involved with the Ragged Edge Community Theater, performing in such musicals as "The Fantastiks" and "Shenadoah." He served in the Kentucky National Guard and was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: three sisters, Sandy (Brian) Risslar, Shari (Ed) Bowman, and Susan (Steve) Gardilcic, all of Mansfield, OH. Funeral services were held Monday, July 5, at the Harrodsburg Baptist Church and Tuesday, July 6, at the Mansfield Baptist Temple, Mansfield Ohio, with Rev. Dale Adkins officiating at both services. Burial was in the Ashland Memorial Gardens, Mansfield, OH. Pallbearers were employees of Shaker Village. Michael Paul Craycraft, 38, of 103 E. Water Street, Burgin, died Thursday, July 1, 1999 on US 68 at Chinn Lane from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born December 27, 1960 in Dayton, OH he was the son of Virgil Ray Craycraft, Dayton, OH and Shirley Ruth Hall Craycraft, Lexington. He worked in the shipping department at Bay West in Harrodsburg and was a member of the Church of God. Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Wanda Craycraft, Burgin; one son, Davron Bowman, Burgin, two brothers, David Craycraft and Kevin Craycraft, both of Lexington; paternal grandmother, Nannie Hornback, Middletown, OH. Funeral services were held Monday, July 5, 1999 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bruce Bowman and Mike Powell officiating. Burial was in the Robinson Row Cemetery. A native of Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Dudley Harlow and Geneva Mae Gardner Green Harlow. She was the widow of Allen Butler. She was a homemaker and a member of the Evergreen Baptist Church. A native of Mercer County, he was the son of the late Roy and Verna Currens Robinson. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church and an Army veteran of World War II. DANIEL WILSON
Daniel William Wilson, 77, of 608 Millvale (Nakomi) Drive, died Monday, July 5, 1999. A native of Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Peter Nolen and Lucretia Browning Wilson. He was a graduate of the US Army Air Force Flying Cadet School, Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. During World War II he served in the US Army Air Force as a B-24 pilot, obtaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He was the fourth generation of his family to serve in the building supply business in Kentucky. He was a member of Broadway Christian church, had served as deacon for 18 years and was a member of Robert Sirkle Masonic Lodge. He was formerly employed by Liggett-Myers Tobacco Company in Samsun, Turkey. Survivors include: two daughters, Elaine Hardin Wilson, Lebanon Junction, Rebecca Wilson (Kent) Wharton, Lexington; two sons, Stephen Douglas (Karen) Wilson, Versailles and Daniel Stuart (Meg) Wilson, Louisville; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Garnetta Hardin Wilson. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 9, at W. R. Milward Mortuary-Southland by Steve Wilson. Wilma Million Jenkins, 84, of Madison Avenue in Danville, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at her residence. Born June 21, 1915 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Flora Norton Million. She was retired from Corning Glass and Cricketeer Manufacturing. She was a member of the Junction City Baptist Church. Survivors include two grandsons, Jim and David Carey, both of Danville and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Jenkins and one daughter, Onita Willard. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 8, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home with Rev. Born January 24, 1919 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late William and Ada Scott Brown. She was an employee of Bill s Restaurant, formerly Lane s Restaurant and a member of the Buena Vista Baptist Church. Survivors include: her husband, Ray Morford, Garrard County; one son, Paul Morford, Mercer County; one brother, Clifford Brown, Garrard County; two sisters, Geneva Lane and Jewell Wilson, both of Lancaster; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Doris Marie Hiter. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 8, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Rev. Lonnie Bradley officiating. Burial was on Cemetery Hill in Springfield. Pallbearers were Doyle Brewer, Rick Goatly, Buster Caldwell, Jason Hiter, Jeff Caldwell and Brian Miles. (Fri Jul 15, 1999)
