FLOYD COUNTY — Leonard Clark, 47, of Honaker, died Wednesday, Oct. 17 at University of Kentucky, Lexington, following a short illness. Born Dec. 30, 1953, in Pikeville, he was a son of Claude E. Clark and Madeline Case Clark, Honaker. He was a former coal miner. Survivors include a son, Steve Clark of Honaker; one brother, Sammie Clark of Hillsboro, Ohio; one sister, Bulavene Hall of Harold. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Hall Funeral Home Chapel, Martin, with clergymen Tommy Spears and Bennie Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery, Honaker, under direction of Hall Funeral Home.

Nayoma Samons Conn

FLOYD COUNTY — Nayoma Samons Conn, 84, of Kimmell, Ind., formerly of Dana, died Wednesday, Oct. 17 at Sacred Heart Nursing Home, Avilla, Ind., following a long illness. Born Oct. 6, 1917 at Dana, she was a daughter of the late Grover Samons and Virgie Akers Samons. She was a homemaker and member of Church of Christ, Arkansas Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gomer Conn, one son, Grover Cleveland Conn, one daughter, Lillian V. Knox, two brothers, Hezzie Samons and Ivory Samons, and two sisters, Clara Conn and Dovie Samons. Survivors include four sons, Clliffird Conn and Bernard Conn, both of Dana; Archer Conn of Martin, and Clyde Conn of Kimmell, Ind.; six daughters, Alta Sutton of Stoh, Ind., Emma Lou Pemberton of Springfield, Ohio, Lola Feller of Kendalville, Ind., Ivalene Hall of Dana, Carol Crum of Allen, Sue Feller of Kendalville, Ind.; one brother, Norman Samons of Orange City, Fla.; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Church of Christ Ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Click Family Cemetery, Click Branch, Martin, under direction of Hall Funeral Home.

JOHNSON COUNTY — Ruth Crum, 91, of River, died Monday, Oct. 15 at her residence. Born Jan. 5, 1910 in Johnson County, she was the daughter of the late Harm Saylor and Mary Gibson. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Saylor, and a son, Billy Saylor. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Blanton of River; one son, Bobby Tucker of Albion, Mich.; two brothers, Sam Saylor of Gregory, Mich. and Ollie Saylor of Albion, Mich.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchidren. Funeral services were 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Price and Rev. Harold Williams officiating. Burial was in Crum Family Cemetery, River, under direction of Paintsville Funeral Home.

Arthur Lindsley Donnellan Jr.

FLOYD COUNTY — Arthur Lindsley Donnellan Jr., 74, died Monday, Oct. 15 at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital. Born Nov. 18, 1926 in Wheatley, Conn., he was a son of the late Arthur L. Donnellan and Elizabeth Ricker Donnellan. He was a retired heavy equipment operator, member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Nicholasville, and WWII Naval Veteran. Survivors include his wife, Alpha Hamilton Donnellan; two daughters, Sandra Donnellan of Teaberry, and Selma Adams of Raccoon; one son, Wesley Donnellan of Bangor, Maine; three stepdaughters, Amy Zapata of Honolulu, Hawaii, Patsy Adkins and Dicie Adkins, both of Frostburg, Md.; two stepsons, Jerry Adkins of Jackson, Miss., and Benny Adkins of Betsy Layne; one brother, Charlie Donnellan of San Pedro, Calif.; four sisters, Ann Brown of Groton, Vt., Mary Lead of Canyon County, Calif., Ginny Eberhard of Palm Springs, Calif., Beth Maybee of Fairport, N.Y.; two grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren. JOHNSON COUNTY — Laura Lyons, 74, of Hagerhill, died Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Paul B. Hall RMC in Paintsville. Born Aug. 25, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Beldon McKenzie and Vernie Lemaster. She was owner and operator of Maggard & Joseph Furniture Store and Maggard’s Serv-O-Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clayton Maggard. Survivors include her husband, Frank Lyons of Hagerhill; three sons, Wendell Maggard and Larry Maggard, both of Hagerhill, Darrell Maggard of Lexington; three stepsons, Mike Lyons and Gary Lyons, both of Staffordsville, Rick Lyons of Thelma; one daughter, Carol Blair of Riceville; one brother, James McKenzie of Grand Rapids, Mich.; four sisters, Alene Murrel of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dorothy Exline of Russell Springs, Ohio, Jean Franks of Mich., and Marie (last name not listed) of Dayton, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren. FLOYD COUNTY — Hobert Burke, 67, of Bevinsville died Tuesday, Oct. 16 following an extended illness. Born Nov. 18, 1933 at Floyd County, he was a son of the late Silas Burke and Goldie Johnson Burke. He was a general laborer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eura Lou Hall Burke, daughter Janice Fern Burke, and brother Noble Burke. Survivors include three sons, Jerry Wayne Burke, Roy Dean Burke and John Paul Burke, all of Bevinsville; one daughter, Tammy Wonette Burke of Belcher; two brothers, Homer Burke and Silas Burke, both of Bevinsville; one sister, Virble Jean Spears of Bevinsville; three grandchildren. Born Jan. 24, 1932 in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Coger and Mary Wicker Parsons. She was a member of Sixth Street Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Leslie Ratliff. Survivors include a son, Dwight Ratliff of W. Van Lear; one daughter, Diana Lynn Welch of Speedwell, Tenn.; one brother, Ora Parsons of Meally; three sisters, Catherine Delong of Paintsville, Alice Spriggs of Charleston, W. Va., and Imogene Hime of Herber Heights, Ohio; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at Preston Funeral Chapel, Paintsville. JOHNSON COUNTY — Sola Elizabeth Taylor, 88, of East Point, died Tuesday, Oct. 16 at her residence. Born Dec. 2, 1912 at Flat Gap, she was the daughter of the late Merida D. Phillips and Nettie Hall. She was a school teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett S. Taylor. Survivors include a nephew, L. Douglas Phillips of Hurricane, W. Va.; two brothers, Lowell D. Phillips of Lexington, and Eugene Phillips of Texas City, Texas. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19 at Paintsville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobby J. Spencer and Rev. Calvin Setser officiating. Burial will follow in Wells-Buckingham Cemetery, Paintsville, under direction of Paintsville Funeral Home.

Virginia Edwards

OHIO—Virginia Edwards, 82, of Portsmouth, OH, died Oct. 3 at her residence. Born Feb. 24, 1919, in Crandon, WI, a daughter of the late Samuel Johnson and Lena Rose Johnson Spicer, she was a graduate of Ohio University and first taught at Flat Hollow, KY, then at Lindsay and Roosevelt, retiring in 1983 from Highland Elementary School. Survivors include her husband, Gilbert “Moon” Edwards, formerly of Louisa; one daughter, Beth; and one son, Brian. Funeral services were conducted by Reverend Nik Donges Oct. 6 at F. C. Daehler Mortuary, Portsmouth, with burial in Memorial Burial Park, Wheelersburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Della Dixon Education Fund at First Christian Church or to Hospice of Southern Ohio at 1248 Kinney’s Lane, Portsmouth, OH 45662.
