OWEN D. ROGERS
Owen D. Rogers, 80, of Vero Beach, FL, formerly of Mercer County, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the Hospice House in Vero Beach.

Born May 28, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Dora Davis and Lester C. Rogers. He was the widower of Susan Mullins Rogers.

He was one of the former owners and operators of Rogers Sausage Company and was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Edinburgh, IN.

He was a World War II veteran having served in the Navy on the destroyer USS Champlin.

Survivors include three sons, William L. Rogers of Harrodsburg, Danny D. Rogers of Lexington and O. Douglas Rogers of Nicholasville; three stepdaughters, Kathleen Marvin, Vero Beach, FL, Peggy Partello, Grayling, MI, and Ethel Chatham, of Madison, IN; one stepson, Esthel Edwards, Atlanta, GA.; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Dean Kelly, a grandchild, Kiley Rogers, a great-grandchild, Jessica Bryn Lawson, and four brothers and three sisters.

After cremation the ashes will be buried in Spring Hill Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

KATHERYNE WEITZEL

Katheryne “Kitty” Byars Weitzel, 90, of Louisville, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003 at Baptist Hospital East.

She was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church and the Louisville Women’s Club.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan (Dr. Lance) Spalding; one son, Rusty (Jerri) Weitzel, Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Sara and Reed Spalding, Carrie Vandervennet, and Katie and Matthew Weitzel, and a great-grandson, Jackson Spalding.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Valentine B. Weitzel.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Broadway Baptist Church, 4000 Brownsboro Road, Louisville. Burial was in Frankfort Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to either Christian Church Homes or one’s favorite charity.

JOHNNY CURTSINGER
Johnny Lee Curtsinger, 34, of 760 Greenbriar Drive, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at Clairmont Nursing Home, Milford, OH.

Born June 24, 1968 in Danville, he was the son of Raymond Hollis of PA, and Dorothy Marie Elder Curtsinger, Harrodsburg.

He was a receiving coordinator for OHI in Frankfort.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: two sons, Dustin Lee Curtsinger, Harrodsburg, and Jesse Lee Curtsinger, Bloomfield; one daughter, Nicki Curtsinger, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Melissa Segal, Harrodsburg, and Melinda Byrd, Willisburg; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Curtsinger, and maternal grandmother, Mattie Mae Elder, both of Danville; four half brothers, Nick Curtsinger, Lexington, Ray Curtsinger, Ratcliff, Keith Curtsinger, Dayton, OH, and Kyle Curtsinger, Bagdad; one half sister, Angelia Johnson, Georgetown.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel, with Keith Weldon officiating. Burial was in the Bethel Baptist Church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Byrd, Jeff Sears, Mike Curtsinger, Bobby Roller, Ervin Sargent and Eric Walker. Honorary bearers were Tim Byrd and Harvey Segal.

DWIGHT FREEMAN

Dwight Freeman, 81, formerly of Harrodsburg, husband of Maudie Freeman, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Norton Hospice in Louisville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., June 14, at Foreman Funeral Home, 1066 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, Saturday, June 14. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Foreman Funeral Home.

NORMAN D. HUGHES
Norman D. Hughes, 71, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at Jewish Hospital in Shelbyville.

A native of Lebanon, he was the son of the late John Albert and Hattie Tudder Hughes Votaw.

He had retired from the Western Kentucky Gas Co. after 44 1/2 years of service. He had served as director and as president twice of the Mercer Co. Chamber of Commerce and had headed the Pioneer Days Festival in Harrodsburg for several years. He was a member of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club for several years and a member of the Lawrenceburg and Harrodsburg Lion’s Club for 25 years. He also served as president of the Harrodsburg Lion’s Club.

He served on the industrial authority board and as secretary of the Mercer Co. Home Builders Association. He had served on the Shelby County Industrial Foundation. He was an avid U.K. fan and loved to rebuild wrecked cars.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Kentucky where he was a member of the Heartwarmers Sunday School Class.

Survivors include: his wife, Joyce Isham Hughes, Shelbyville; one son Terry (Tina) Hughes, Lexington, KY., and one daughter Sheri (Joe) Wright, Harrodsburg, one sister, Jeanette Willett, Louisville; one step-sister, Peggy Wright, Louisville; three step brothers, David Votaw, Lebanon, Phillip Votaw, Louisville and Carroll Votaw of Knoxville, TN; two grandchildren, Allison and Jacklyn Hughes.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11, at the Shannon Funeral Home in Shelbyville with Dr. Ed Erwin and Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Graveside services were held at the Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 3 Forest Street, New Canaan. CT 06840 or First Baptist Church in Shelbyville.

BEVA KENNEDY

Beva Kennedy, 96, of 218 Curry Avenue, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 7, 1907 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Hannah Robinson Hendren. She was the widow of Aubrey C. Kennedy.

She was a school teacher for the Washington County schools, a member of Harrodsburg Church of Christ and a life member of the Salvisa Homemakers Club.

Survivors include: one son, Danny Noel, Harrodsburg; a stepson, William N. Kennedy, Colorado Springs, CO; one sister, Sarah Holiday, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Phil Arnold and Gary Bagwell officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Willie Gash, Doug Gash, Mark Gash, Louis Gash, Don Billy Yates and Bobby Taylor.

Visitation will be at the chapel after 5:00 p.m. Thursday and prior to services on Friday.

LADONNA STUMPF

LaDonna Lucille Stumpf, 85, of 668 Bellows Mill Road, died Friday, June 6, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 21, 1918 in Dayton, OH, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Florence Thomas Punket. She was the widow of Chalmers Stumpf.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include: one daughter, Deanna Lucille Schweter, Cleveland, OH; one daughter-in-law, Catherine L. Stumpf, Harrodsburg; seven grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Milton Stumpf, and one grandson.

Memorial services will be held at the Brookmere Cemetery, Cleveland, OH at a later date.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel in charge of local arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.

DONALD WELDON

Donald Wilson “Choo-Choo” Weldon, 57, West Office Street, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at his residence. Born September 16, 1945 in Mercer County, he was the son of Ada M. Weldon Cooksey, of Harrodsburg, and the late Morgan C. Weldon.

He was a member of the Willisburg Christian Church and had attended the Magnolia Christian Church.

He was a retired employee from the City of Harrodsburg.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include: two daughters, Kimberly Lee Weldon, Harrodsburg, and Donetta Carol Turpin, Danville; three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Weldon.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Greg Bowen and Bro. Matthew Atha officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leo Vaughn, Chris Devine, J. R. Bugg, Gorman Campbell, Lee Campbell and David Campbell.

Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Gideon’s International, PO Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

WOODROW WILSON

Woodrow “Woody” Wilson, 78, of Louisville, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, June 7, 2003 at his residence.

A native of Elk Cave, he was the son of the late Hardee and Leutisha Whitehouse Wilson.

He was a former Jefferson County police officer, a school bus driver for Jefferson County public schools, and an auto salesperson.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Avoca, and Middletown Masonic Lodge #732.

Survivors include: his wife, Thelma Henson Wilson; two sons, Woodrow Glenn Wilson and James Lynn Wilson; one brother, Charles A. (Clara) Wilson; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Rhodes and Stella Condon, and three brothers, Forster, Bill and George Wilson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, at the Highlands Funeral Home, Louisville. Burial was in Cave Hill Cemetery.

BOBBY BOTTOM
Bobby Lee Bottom, 71, of 1197 Mackville Road, died Monday, June 16, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born September 22, 1931 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Robert and Ethel T. Harmon Bottom.

He was a retired truck driver for the Kentucky Department of Highways.

Survivors include: his wife, Dorothy J. Bottom; one son, Jerry Bottom, Nashville, TN; two daughters, Peggy (Paul) Tyler and Anita (Richard) Newsome, both of Harrodsburg; four brothers, John Bottom, Arthur Bottom, and Earnest Bottom, all of Mackville, and Billy Bottom, Lawrenceburg; five sisters, Opal Settles, Beatrice Taylor, Jewell Bottom, and Ida Elliott, all of Harrodsburg, and Jean Casey, Lexington; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Bottom, and two sisters, Alma Albertson and Doris Perkins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 18, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Geoff Barrett officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery, Mackville.

DONALD BURNS

Donald Gene Burns, 57, of 116 Mercer Avenue, died Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 17, 1945 in Mercer County, he was the son of Kenneth Burns of Harrodsburg and the late Viola Pauline Morris Burns.

He was a machinist for Hitachi and was a retired Lexmark employee. He was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church and Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM.

He was an air force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include: his wife, Colleen Burns, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Angelia (Kevin) Dawn Stewart, Bowling Green; two sisters, Joyce Carol Logue and Reva Gale Spalding, both of Harrodsburg; and one grandson.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 17, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Lewis Walter and Bobby Logue officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Travis Logue, Marshall Sims Jr., Steve Bechtel, Lee Claunch, Bo Bottoms, Kenny Bottoms, Andy Langham and Terry Baker. Honorary bearers were Bill Bottoms, Terry Myers, Hitachi machine operators and deacon and Yoke fellows of the Pioneer Baptist Church.
