LORA COLEMAN

Lora Louise Coleman, 57, of Lexington, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, November 6, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident.

Born in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Hardin and Zelma Goodlett Christison. She was the widow of Kenneth Coleman.

She was an assembly worker for General Electric Lamp Plant.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Coleman, Lexington, and Timothy (Theresa) Coleman, LaGrange; and her brothers and sisters, Gary, Stewart, Pete, Marcus, Jeff, Billy, Terry, and Kay Christison, Cynthia Shell, and Kim Adams. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Sandy Christison.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 11, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Rev. Frank Gillespie. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens.

HAROLD DENNIS

Harold Dewayne Dennis, 32, of Carman Lane, Stanford, died Saturday November 8, 2003 as a result from injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

Born April 25, 1971 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of Harold “Tommy” and Elsie Jean Riley Dennis of Harrodsburg.

He was a plumber with Hayslett Mechanical Contractors, Inc., attended the Mercer Church of Christ, enjoyed watching auto racing, fishing, boating, camping, and spending time with his family.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Diana Roach Dennis, Stanford; maternal grandmother Elsie Riley, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Kayla Marie Sizemore, Stanford; one son, Corey Daniel Dennis, Stanford, one brother, Tommy Joseph Dennis, Harrodsburg; and one sister, Tammy Jean (Jorg) Potts, Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather, Joseph Daniel "J.D." Riley.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Justice officiating. Burial will be in Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Carl Thomas Dennis, Danny Potts, Andy Potts, Kevin Cooley, John Cooley, David Hatfield, Paul Hensley, and Jeff Bradshaw. Honorary bearers will be Nicholas Mink, Brandon Mink, Jason Sanford, Randy Boyd, and Lee Qualls.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

THELMA DEVINE

Thelma Louise Gash Devine, 82, 659 Perryville Street, died Monday, November 3, 2003 at the Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born April 3, 1921 in the community of East Texas, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Verna Whitehouse Gash. She was the widow of Paul Devine.

She was a retired school teacher after 34 years of service in the Mercer County and Harrodsburg Independent School Systems.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Women's Missionary Union, taught the Japanese Class for a number of years, and was Past President of the Mercer County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include: one son, Donald Paul (Susan) Devine, Bowling Green; one daughter, Linda (Kenny) Kurtz, Danville; two brothers, Rowland R. Gash, North Little Rock, AR, Rev. Samuel Clelland Gash, Memphis, TN; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Gash.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 7, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Dr. Robert DeFoor. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Kurtz, Mike Butcher, Louis Kerrick, N. B. Stratton, Claude Russell and Sam Gash Jr.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation, the Onita Baptist Institute or the Wendell Foster Home, Owensboro.

GERALDINE HUNT

Geraldine Hill Hunt, 72, of Shakertown Road, Danville, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at her residence.

Born Jan. 9, 1931, in Stanford, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ethel B. Barlow Hill. She was the widow of Carlos Hunt.

She was an employee of American Greetings Company and a homemaker. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the visitation program and traveled with Lucky Agers Senior Citizens Group from the church.

Survivors include: two sons, Ray Hunt, Virginia Beach, VA and Woody Hunt of Lebanon, TN; three daughters, Carolyn Noel and Janice Prewitt, both of Danville, Judy Sanders, Harrodsburg; two brothers, Billy Hill and Darrell Hill, both of McKinney; five sisters, Barbara Adams, Nicholasville, Norma Warner, Moreland, and Joann Devine, Brenda Devine and Wanda Brock, all of Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Hill.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial was in Bellevue Cemetery.

Stith Funeral Home, Danville, was in charge of arrangements.

BYRON McCAMMON, JR.

Byron McCammon Jr., 81, 835 McAfee Lane, Salvisa, formerly of South Whitley, IN, died Friday, November 7, 2003 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born August 25, 1922 in Sullivan County, IN, he was the son of the late Byron McCammon, Sr. and Geneva Carty McCammon.

He was a graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne, IN, where he was a football player and subsequently attended Shurtleff College in Alton, IL. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a self-employed farmer, auto worker and a builder.

He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Huntington, IN and later a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, Danville, where he served as co-treasurer.

Survivors include: his wife, Bernice Duewer McCammon, Salvisa; two sons, Harry Lee (Ivy) McCammon, Bloomington, IN, John Marvin (Holly) McCammon, Nashville, TN; two daughters, Carol Ann (Bruce) Waterman, Indianapolis, IN, and Barbara Jean (Moyne) Metzger, Nicholasville; 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister Melba Rose Harshbarger.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 13, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 285 Hill-N-Dale Drive, Danville, by David Whitten.

Pallbearers will be Kurt Cooper, Mike Cooper, Charles Criswell, Kelly Wischmeier, Ryan McCammon, Rachelle McCammon, Scott Waterman, Lisa Waterman, Neil Metzger, Seth McCammon, and Hadley McCammon.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel and after 9:00 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 66, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or to Our Savior Lutheran Church Building Fund.

JAMES NELSON

James Richard "Ricky" Nelson, 33, Deep Creek Road, died Saturday, November 8, 2003 as the result of an automobile accident.

Born June 23, 1970 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of James Hubert Nelson and Billie Anne Weldon Nelson.

He was a member of Dry Branch Baptist Church, an equipment operator for Hayslett Mechanical Contractors, Inc., and enjoyed fishing and drag racing.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Ruby Ann Nelson, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Joyce Ann (Shannon) Newman, and Allison Darlene Sharp, both of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, November 13, at the Perryville Baptist Church with Rev. J. Tom Patterson and John Bailey officiating. Burial will be in the Peter Cemetery, Washington County.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Bradshaw, James Martin, Brian Wiley, Stephen Guillen, Travis Scott Taylor and Doug Taylor. Honorary bearers will be the employees of Hayslett Mechanical Contractors, Inc.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 7:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.

HELEN NOEL

Helen Ruth Noel, 58, of Glenn Dale, MD, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, November 7, 2003 in MD.

Born June 8, 1945 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Loyd B. and Beulah Powell Noel.

She was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include: one sister, Mrs. Patsy Vick, Glenn Dale, MD; and one aunt, Madelyn McGlone, Harrodsburg; one niece, one nephew and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Owens officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

LENA SATTERLY

Lena Satterly, 93, died Sunday, November 9, 2003 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born December 14, 1909 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late J. W. and Addie Moore Barnett. She was the widow of Clellan Satterly.

She was a former employee of the Gem Store, a member of Bethel Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking and walking.

Survivors include: one son, Hugh (Wanda) Satterly, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Patsy (Tim) Owens, Atlanta, GA; two grandchildren Anne (Bill) Curry of Harrodsburg and Shane (Tomi) Satterly of Lexington; and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Donald Lee Satterly and one granddaughter, Judy Carolyn Satterly.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at the Bethel Baptist Church with Bro. David Culp officiating. Burial was in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wayne Richards, Shane Satterly, Bill Curry, Christian Curry, Evan Satterly, and Jackie Griffey.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hospice, PO Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422 and/or Senior Companions Program at Mercer County Senior Citizens, 1475 Louisville Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

HELEN SHANK

Helen Phillips Shank of Wildwood, IL, died October 31, 2003.

A native of Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Fannie Noel and Lewis Phillips Sr.

Survivors include: her husband, Walter, Shank Sr., Wildwood, IL; one daughter, Virginia Morgan (Bobby) Medley, Lawrenceburg; five sons, Ronald (Kay) Morgan, Pacifica, CA, Jerry (Kathy) Morgan, Jeffersonville, IN; Dr. Walter Shank, Lexington, Michael Shank, Waukegan, IL, Larry Shank, Wildwood, IL; five sisters, Virginia Graves, Harrodsburg, Adeline Gash, Lexington, Frances Miller, Tucson, AZ, Christine Tyson, Waverly, KS and Betty Caswell, Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lewis Phillips Jr. and Andrew Phillips, and a great-grandson, Zachary Graves.

Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville, IL.

BUFORD TAYLOR

Buford C. Taylor, 73, of 838 Watershore Drive, died Saturday, November 8, 2003 at his residence.

Born May 5, 1930 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Birdie (B. R.) and Pearl Drury Taylor.

He was an Air Force Veteran of the Korean War and a self-employed building contractor for many years.

He was a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church and the Mercer Home Builders Association.

Survivors include: his wife, Margie Maxey Taylor; one son, David C. (Ann) Taylor; two daughters, Sandy (David) Murphy and Terri (Leslie) Williams, four brothers, Bruce, William D., William C. and Steve Taylor; two sisters, Rita Durr and Connie Bivins, all of Harrodsburg; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Owen and Charles Taylor.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 11, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Lewis Walter, Jerel Coffey, Dale Denton, and Michael West. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John David Taylor, Wes Murphy, John Elliott, Chuck Taylor, Josh Murphy and Clay Murphy. Honorary pallbearers were J. C. Patterson, Danny Noel, Bobby Roney, Godbey Roney, Jack Coleman, Jim McGlone, James Butch Merchant, Harry Harmon, Ed Hudson, Truman Curtsinger, David Patrick and Barry Currens.

BLANCHE WHITTINGHILL
Blanche Beeves Whittinghill, 95, Meadowbrook Drive, died Tuesday, November 11, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Extended Care in Harrodsburg.

Born March 27, 1908, she was the widow of James C. Whittinghill.

She was retired from Cricketeer and a member of the Cornishville Christian Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jean (Morgan) Wheeler, Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Willa (Cecil) Carey, Nicholasville; two sisters, Rosalyn Wilson and Mirtie Dean, both of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend Emma Hardin, who cared for her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Evan Poll officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Terry Wheeler, George Wheeler: Bobby Catlett, Mark Carey, Evan Poll, and Bob Poll.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, and after 7:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery Fund.
