MARY CLAUNCH

Mary Belle clench, 86, of 415 Tabler Avenue, died Thursday, April 6, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born November 19, 1913 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James and Sarah Elizabeth Leonard Drury. She had worked several years in the kitchen at Beaumont Inn, and was the widow of Oliver Claunch.

Survivors include: two sons, James R. Corman, Harrodsburg, and Johnny W. Drury, Nicholasville; three daughters, Pauline McGrath and Jane Ader, both of Harrodsburg, Mrs. Garnett (Dorothy) Collier, Mercer County; one step daughter, Ida Mae Claunch Underwood, Lexington; one sister, Janie Pinkston, Harrodsburg; 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Harley Humfleet and Bro. Donnie Releford officiating. Burial was in the Bruner's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steven Ader, Ronnie McGrath, Wayne Collier, Todd Collier, Mark McGrath and Paul Collier, Honorary bearers were Greg Collier, Jimmy Collier, Rickey Collier, John McGrath, Dale Corman and Gary Corman.

LEROY JENKINS

Leroy Jenkins, 75, of 226 W. Jefferson Avenue, Danville, died Monday, April 3, 2000 at the Cincinnati Veterans Administration Hospital.

Born June 21, 1924 in VanArsdall, he was the son of the late Otho and Bessie Carr Jenkins. He had been married to the late Ruby M. Hicks of Monticello.

He was a former machinist, having worked for Cincinnati Milacron and Lodge and Shipley companies. He was a home repair hobbyist.

He was a Corporal in the US Army in World War II, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

Survivors include: one son, Jack Lee Jenkins and one daughter, Elizabeth (Libby) Jenkins, both of Cincinnati; one brother, Ralph Jenkins, Marengo, IN; two sisters, Christine Isham, Bowling Green and Louise Hicks, Hustonville.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Donnie Releford officiating. Burial with Military Honors was held in Burgin Memorial Gardens.

Suggestions of sympathy may take the form of donations to: Muscular Dystrophy Association, Chestnut Center #552, 410 W. Chestnut St., Louisville, KY 40202; American Cancer Society, PO Box 102, Harrodsburg, KY 40330; or the American Heart Association, PO Box 198, Burgin, KY 40310.

CLARENCE ISHAM

Clarence W. Isham, 88, of Harrodsburg, formerly of Mackville, died Saturday, April 8, 2000 at the James. B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

A native of Washington County, he was born July 15, 1911, son of the late Cook and Mattie Carrier Isham.

He was a retired construction worker for the former R. R. Dawson Bridge Company, in Bloomfield.

Survivors include: one son, Jimmy Isham, London; seven daughters, Mrs. Ray (Doris) Dennis, Louisville, Joanne Dennis, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Ronald (Martha Jane) Trayner, Midway, Mrs. Lonnie (Kay) Boswell, Springfield, Mrs. Jim (Betty) Burton, Harrodsburg, Mrs. John D. (Donna) Harmon, Mackville, Mrs. A. J. (Mary) Peavler, Harrodsburg; one sister, Jewell Cissel, Louisville; 30 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Ruby Fowler Isham; one son, Billy C. Isham,; a granddaughter, Christy Michelle Isham; a great grandson, Johnathan Armstrong; a great granddaughter, Erica Kelty; two brothers, Cecil and Dick Isham; three sisters, Pearl Noel, Myrtle Christerson and Annie Simpson.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 10, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Rev. Paul Readnour officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Bobby Dennis, Eddie Dennis, Andy Matherly, David Peavler, Blair Isham and Dale Isham.

WILLIAM BURKE

William Cole-man Burke, 77, of 220 Pearson Ct., died Monday, April 10, 2000 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born September 11, 1922 in Paris, he was the son of the late Patrick Lambert and Rose Agnes Guilfolge Burke.

He was a retired teacher for the U. S. Defense Department, having taught in Okinawa, Germany, Turkey, England and Korea. He also taught at Rose Hill and Cornishville schools in Mercer County.

He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, a graduate of Paris High School and the University of Kentucky, receiving his BA degree in 1949 and Master's degree in 1961.

He was an army veteran of World War II having distinguished himself in the Battle of Okinawa.

Survivors include: a sister-in-law, Virginia Burke, Elsmore, KS; two nephews, Guy (Margo) Bisset, and David Bisset, both of Lexington; two nieces, Patricia Ard, Elsmore, KS and Catherine B. (Mike) Sweany, Sand Springs, OK; three great nephews and one great niece.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Steve Binegar and Father Joseph Muench officiating.

There will be no visitation.

ELIZABETH SIMS

Elizabeth Pearl Sims, 89, of 4795 DeFriese, Canmer, KY, died Tuesday, April 11, 2000 at her residence.

Born December 30, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Hiram and Cora Evelyn Ellis McCrosky, and was the widow of Valus Sims.

She was a retired nurse for the Kentucky State Hospital and a member of the Burgin Christian Church where she was deacon emeritus.

Survivors include: one daughter, Janice Gumm, Canmer; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Haldon and Harold Sims; one daughter, Merry Deaton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 14, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jeanette Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Ellis, Horace Ellis, Bill Crossfield, Gayle Crossfield, David Ross and David McCroskey.

Memorials are suggested to the Burgin Christian Church.

Visitation will be at the funeral chapel from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday and after 7:30 a.m. Friday.

B. H. THOMAS Jr.

B. H. Thomas Jr., 76, of 823 Mooreland Avenue, died Thursday, April 13, 2000 at his residence.

Born February 26, 1924 in Fayette County, he was the son of the late Buford H. and Alma M. Nutter Thomas.

He was a retired press operator for Corning Glass and a member of Bruner's Chapel Baptist church.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Survivors include: his wife, Louise Thomas, Harrodsburg; one son, Tony Thomas, Shelbyville; one sister, Kit Yeaste, Bardstown; one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leo and Clarence Thomas.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 15, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Redding, Arnold Moon and Larry Camic officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were Marvin Dearing, Mike Camic, David Camic, Greg McCloud, June Christy and Gordon Humble. Honorary bearers were Sherman and Dorthy Hogue, Mike and Margaret Huff, Charles Semones, Lafon Darland, Harold Baker and Cleo Baker.

JAMES WHITTINGHILL

James C. Whittinglhill, 84, of 601 Meadowbrook Lane, died Friday, April 14, 2000 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born November 3, 1915 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James and Lillian Hendren Whittinghill.

He was a union carpenter, a US Army veteran of World War II, and was a member and deacon of Cornishville Christian Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Blanche Adkinson Whittinghill, Harrodsburg; two step daughters, Mrs. Morgan (Jean) Wheeler, Harrodsburg, and Mrs. Cecil (Willa) Carey of Jessamine County; one nephew, David Whittinghill, six step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Grover and Robert Whittinghill.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley and Bro. Curtis Sims officiating. Burial with military honors was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Poll, Evan Poll, Terry Wheeler, George Wheeler, Mark Carey, and David Whittinghill.

MARY KATE DARLAND

Mrs. Mary Kate Boswell Darland, 86, of Main Street, Mackville, died Friday, April 14, 2000 in the emergency room of the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

A native of Washington County, she was born July 22, 1913 to the late Merritt A. and Viviva Taylor Boswell.

She was a member of the Mackville Church of Christ.

Survivors include: two sons, Donald (Helen) Darland, Louisville; Jimmy (Betty Jo) Darland, Georgetown, TX; two daughters, Nellie (Granville) Moore and Betty (Kenneth) Hurst, Lexington; one brother, Lonnie Boswell, Springfield; three sisters, Mattie Mattingly, Springfield, Grace Black, Frankfort, and Gladys Rose of Hodgenville; 15 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Shannon Darland; two brothers, James and Bruce Boswell; one sister, Elizabeth Curtsinger; and one grandchild, Janice Hurst.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Preston officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Mark Moore, David Moore, Cleon Darland, Stan Lee, Anthony Moore and Jimmy Lee Darland.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted military rites for James Whittinghill at Spring Hill Cemetery on April 16, 2000.

Those attending were Roy Freeman, Curtiss Sherrow, Louis Ransdell, Marion Mershon, James Carey, Joe Harlow, Preston Burgin, Tom Denny, Howard Howells, Lucian Landers.

Zenah Teater served as bugler.

RUSSELL DUNAWAY

Russell H. Dunaway, 72, of Edgewood Drive, Stanford, died Monday, April 17, 2000 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born February 3, 1928 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late William J. Dunaway and Allean Boone Dunaway.

He was a former meat cutter and a Church of Christ minister and a member of the Lexington Avenue Church of Christ in Danville.

He was a member of the DAV, American Legion and was a navy veteran of World War II and an army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include: his wife, Nancy Middleton Dunaway, Stanford; two sons, Russell (Patricia) Dunaway Jr., Blue Ash, OH; Billy (Ann Robin) Dunaway, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Katherine Ann Dunaway, Erlanger; three sisters, Lilly Gooch, Stanford, Margaret Grider, Junction City, and Doris Bottom Danville; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Dunaway, and a sister, Marie Potts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford, with Steve Wolfgang and Scott Vifquin officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Estes, Donnie Gooch, Don Guay, Curt Herrington, Dave Miller, Eddie Smith, Rick Snyder and Lloyd Burton. Honorary bearers will be grandchildren, Chris, Tyler and Timmy Dunaway, and Brandon Sutton.

Visitation from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at the funeral home.

NANCY RUTAN

Nancy Ruth Anderson Rutan died April 14, 2000 in Seffner, Florida.

Born November 6, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Buford and Ida Gabhart Anderson. She was the granddaughter of the late Will and Ruth Gabhart of Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: two sons, Charles, of Georgia, and David, of Florida, and their families; four stepdaughters; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, Buford Anderson Jr..

Funeral services were held April 17 with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Tampa, FL.
