ETHEL LAY
Ethel L. Lay, 77, Belmont Street, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004 at her residence after a long illness.

Born Oct. 12, 1927 in Wayne County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lala Vaughn and the late Joseph Rankin.

She was a self-employed private duty sitter, worked as a senior companion for the Mercer County Senior Citizens and was a member of the Centennial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sisters, Mae (Jessie) Thomas and Bessie Anna Lyons, both of Harrodsburg, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Lincoln Vaughn Jr. and two sisters, Zelma Yeast and Minnie Bottoms.

The funeral will be today, Thursday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. at the Centennial Baptist Church with Elder J.D. Short III officiating. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Smith III and Gary Smith.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the Centennial Baptist Church.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423.

Arrangements are being handled by the Parks Funeral Home.

GLENN LEWIS
Glenn Lewis, 71, Harrodsburg, husband of Betty Lewis, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 14, 1933 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Pagie Albert and Lomi Alice Claunch Lewis.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a self-employed farmer and trucker, a member of Benton Baptist Church and loved to fish, camp and play cards.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Terry Glenn (Debbie) Lewis and Timothy Lynn (Patricia) Lewis, both of Harrodsburg; four brothers, Charles Lewis and Pagie Lewis, both of Mercer County, Buford Lewis of Rose Hill and Tony Lewis of Bohon; five sisters, Opal French, Linda Watts and Bea Devine, all of Mercer County, Elizabeth Lee Hayslett of Burgin and Barbara Hodge of Danville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 15 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Best and Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Newby, John Hardin, Timothy and Nick Lewis, Josh Carey, Eddie Horn, Bruce Wade and Steve Bailey.

CATHERINE LYONS
Catherine Hill Lyons, 84, Quirks Run Road, widow of James H. Lyons, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at her residence.

Born June 10, 1920 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James and Susie Prewitt Hill Fuell.

She was a homemaker, had been a self-employed house cleaner, was a member of the Salt River Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and enjoyed working in her yard and with her flowers.

Survivors include: two sons, Willis (Jeanne) Lyons of Michigan and Floyd (Linda) Lyons of Danville; one daughter, Mable (Nellus) Estes of Harrodsburg; one brother, Tommy Hill of Mercer County; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Lyons and Frances Ellis, and two brothers, Jimmy Hill and Johnny Hill.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Dec. 13 at the Salt River Baptist Church in Danville with Bro. Bob Bausum, Bro. Daniel Wilson and Fr. Dick Sullivan officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Mike and Greg Estes, Ronnie Lyons, Jimmie Ellis, Bill Beavers and Robbie Sargent.

Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons and Darrell Beavers.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40423.

TAMARA MAY
Tamara Kay Yankey May, 45, Lancaster, formerly of Mackville, wife of Jeff May, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Born Oct. 16, 1959 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of Billy Yankey of Mackville and Hazel Bottoms of Harrodsburg.

She was a 1977 graduate of Washington County High School, an employee of American Greetings in Danville and a member of the Lancaster Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: a stepmother, Mary Yankey of Mackville; one daughter, Laura (Jeremy) Cornelius of Lancaster; two brothers, Mike Yankey of Mackville and Tommy Yankey of Liberty, and two nephews.

The funeral was held Wednesday, Dec. 15 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Bob Rush, former pastor of Lancaster Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Roy Yeast, John Ball, Freddie Bottoms, Ronnie Best, Lowell Peavler and Felix Reynolds.

Honorary pallbearers were Austin and Tanner Yankey, Shelton Moss, Steve Vinyard, Leon Burns and Jeff Young.

EDWARD PANKEY
Edward Robert Pankey, 41, Harrodsburg Road, Washington County, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at his residence.

Born Oct. 26, 1963 in Harrodsburg, he was a son of Alice Roberts Pankey of Washington County and the late W. T. Pankey.

He was a Kentucky Parks Department maintenance supervisor and a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors other than his mother include: one daughter, Jennifer Michele Pankey of Springfield; one brother, J. W. “Dub” Pankey, also of Springfield, and a special companion, Lisa.

He was preceded in death by one son, Edward R. Pankey II.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, Dec. 14 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with William Perkins officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were David Roberts, Wayne Carmichael, Chris Horn, David Bottoms, Terry Watts, Kenny Whitehouse and Ronald Traynor.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society.

CHARLINE SHENAULT
Charline J. Shenault, 78, Parkview Ave., widow of Joseph R. Shenault Jr., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Aug. 4, 1926 in Ashland, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Goldia Price Shelton.

She was a former employee of Mercer Dress Corporation and also a fabric buyer for Mabley and Crew Co. of Cincinnati, OH for several years and was a charter member of Southside Christian Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Lynn Shenault, Ann S. Morgan and Carla (Charles) Grigsby, all of Harrodsburg; one sister, Opal (Hardy) Barker of Ironton, OH; one grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted Monday, Dec. 13 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Sam Stow, Brackie Willoughby, Greg Warren, Glenn Wheeler, and Rob Clark officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Larry Camic, Jeff Palmer, Kelvin Machal, Norris “Chigger” Flynn, Sonny Carter, Chad Banks, Larry Moore and Tim LeDonne.

Honorary pallbearers were Hershel Votaw and Tommy Sallee.

JAMES BROYLES SR.

James Willis Broyles, Sr., 67, of Gravel Switch, husband of Mary Bryant Broyles, died Sunday, December 19, 2004 at his residence.

Born Feb. 25, 1937, in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Arthur and Beva Satterly Broyles.

He was a heavy equipment operator for Todd Johnson Contracting, a member of Mitchellsburg Church of God and an Army Veteran.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include: one daughter, Donna Broyles Pendergraft, Gravel Switch; two sons, Larry W. Broyles, Parksville and James W. Broyles Jr., Springfield; five sisters, Wanda Overstreet, Danville, Glenna Engle, Harrodsburg, Evelyn Engle, Liberty, Polly Dennis, Lancaster and Linda Johnson, Danville; one brother, Bobby Broyles, Paradise, CA; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, at Mitchellsburg Church of God by Rev. Larry Moore and Rev. Junior Fields. Burial will be in Parksville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Lee Coulter, David Weldon, Tommy Bottoms, Dallas Taylor, and David Moore and Chester Shirrell. Honorary bearers will be David Gourley, David and Daniel Bryant.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchellsburg Church of God.

Memorials may go to Lake Cumberland Hospice.

Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, is in charge of arrangements.

NANNIE BURCHETT

Nannie Pearl Jones Burchett, 70, of Danville, formerly of Perryville, died Friday, December 17, 2004.

Born April 8, 1934, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Bessie Webb Tate. She was the widow of Logan Jones.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.

Survivors include: two daughters, Alma Jones, Junction City and Gladys Goins, CA; a stepmother, Frances Tate, Junction City; six sisters, Virgie Hutchinson, IN, Nettie Boyd and Lois Boyd, both of Versailles, Minnie Peavley, Perryville, Myrtle Rose, Williamsburg, Mary Pearl Crowe, Hustonville; five brothers, Fred Tate Jr., Lebanon, James Tate, Nicholasville, Robert Tate, Harrodsburg, J.C. Tate, Parksville and George Cox, Lancaster; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 20, at Wilder Funeral Home, Perryville, by Rev. Buddy Turpin. Burial will be in Chambers Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Lively, David Hones, Mark Goins, Eugene Peavley, James and Robert Tate.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday.

BILLIE DEMAREE

Billie Jo Ralston Demaree, 71, Richmond Rd., Paint Lick, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Nov. 22, 1933 in Garrard County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Edmond and Burdetta Ramsey Ralston.

She was a retired bookkeeper for The Christian Appalachian Project and had been employed at the former Academy Inn in Lancaster. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster where she was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Governor James Garrard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Garrard Hospital Auxiliary and Presbyterian Women’s Circle.

Survivors include: one son, Jim Demaree of Stanford; one daughter, Sharon Clark of Garrard County; one brother, Harvey Ralston of Dayton, OH; one sister, Eleanor Moots of Lancaster; four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

The funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Jim Rucker and Rev. Dwight Forderhase officiating. Burial was in the Paint Lick Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Buford Noel, Glen Hensley, Richard Arnold, Dwight May, Michael Botkin and Curtis Clark.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Steve Green, Russell Hester, J.W. Marsee, Clifton Whittaker, Dr. S.R. Wold, Dr. David Booth, Harvey Nelson Ralston Jr. and Thomas H. Ralston.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Paint Lick Cemetery, P.O. Box 76, Paint Lick, KY 40461.
