DONALD REID

Donald James Reid, 57, Rocky Mountain Court, Lexington, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at the Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Sept. 17, 1946 in Frankfort, he was the son of the late Roy and Geneva Reid.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was a field superintendent for ITX Construction Company.

Survivors include: one son, Nick J. (Lori) Reid of FL, and one granddaughter, Britney Reid.

Memorial services were conducted Wednesday, June 16 at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville. Burial was in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery with military rites.

Local arrangements were handled by the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102, Harrodsburg , KY 40330.

ONETA ROBINSON

Oneta Mae Pinkston Robinson, 71, Puckett Road, Anderson County, wife of Lillard E. Robinson, formerly of Mercer County, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at her residence.

Born Dec. 9, 1932 in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Evie Mae Cornish Pinkston and the stepdaughter of the late Cordie Corn Barnett Pinkston..

She was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Washington County.

Survivors include: two daughters, Peggy (Charles) Robinson-Dixon of Lawrenceburg, and Tammy Robinson (Greg) Land of Richmond; one son, Danny E. (Celeste) Robinson of Lawrenceburg; two stepsisters, Marie Terrell of Mt. Washington, and Mary (Burgess) Lancaster of Louisville; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one stepbrother, Elwood Barnett.

The funeral was held Sunday, June 13 at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Delane Pinkston and Bro. Harry Rose officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

MARGARET TAYLOR

Margaret Goforth Taylor, 67, Hughley Lane, wife of Wallace Taylor, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at her residence after an illness.

Born June 4, 1937 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Goforth and Pauline Jones Goforth.

She was a former employee of Corning and also cleaned houses. She was a member of Burgin Christian Church where she was an elder, a deacon, a choir member, past president of the Christian Women's Fellowship and past chairman of the General Board. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Harrodsburg Chapter #309, currently secretary and had held the offices of deputy of District #2, worthy matron, associate matron, conductress, associate conductress and ester.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Jimmy L. (Lourie) Taylor of Taylorsville, NC, and Michael Taylor of Mercer County; two stepsons David Taylor and Wayne Taylor, both of FL; one stepdaughter, Valerie (Jimmy) Edwards of FL; four sisters, Ruby Tackett and Juanita Cook, both of Harrodsburg, Edna Smith of Dayton, OH, and Brenda Reed of Mercer County; eight grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren and numerous other relatives.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Goforth.

The funeral was conducted Monday, June 14 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Chaplain Gary Story officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bud Vanarsdall, Rice Lear, Alan Monroe, Doug Long, Jack Gross, Zack Gross and Arvid Tackett.

MARION VOORHIES

Marion D. Voorhies, 77, 210 Meadowview Drive, Frankfort, husband of Martha Webb Voorhies, formerly of Burgin, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born Nov. 29, 1926 in Bohon, he was the son of the late Ellis and Fannie Ann Westerfield Voorhies.

He was a retired mixing department supervisor at Corning Glass Works in Harrodsburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He was past president of the Burgin Lions Club and former Burgin city commissioner. He was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Dennis R. Voorhies of Burgin; one stepson, Michael K. Webb of Winchester; two daughters, Regina Lynn Voorhies of Glencoe, and Libby Elks of Danville; three stepdaughters, Trudy Stevens of Danville, Tamara Lasher of Crystal River, FL, and Robin Baughan of Burkesville; four grandchildren; five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted Tuesday, June 15 in the Spring Hill Cemetery with Tom Hall officiating. Burial followed.

Local arrangements were handled by the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions are suggested to one's favorite charity.

ELENA BROOKING
Elena Estelle Brooking, wife of Richard Alan “Dickie” Brooking, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 in Corpus Christi, TX.

Born February 29, 1932 in LaFayette, TN, she was the daughter of the late George Carl and Vada Olyne Davis Wilson.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include: four children, Lara Fitzgerald (Randall Harris), Ojo Caliente, NM, John Walter Draughon III (Nancy Ganucheau), Missouri City, TX; Philip Eric (Sue) Draughon, Keauhou, HI, and Patricia Lynn Bruce, Bloomington Springs, TN; four sisters, Georgia Cozell (Ben) Phelps, Joyce Annez (Carl) Edwards; Donna Jean (Jack) McCormick, and Deborah Elaine (Paul) Patterson, all of TN; one brother, Paul David (Carol) Wilson, Dublin, OH; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robert Bruce.

Funeral services were held at the Trevino Funeral Home, Corpus Christi, on Monday, June 7, with Deacon Ray Ahlers officiating.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, June 25, at Northside Church of Christ in Nashville.

Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 26, in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

DeETTE DARLAND

DeEtte S. Darland, 89, Mackville Road, wife of Lafon Darland, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Dec. 1, 1914 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jeannette Hellard Sims.

She had worked at the Bus Station in Harrodsburg. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking and gardening.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Doyle Sims (Kim) Darland of Harrodsburg; one sister, Berniese Matherly of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, Timothy Doyle (Krystal) Darland and Christopher Keith Darland; four great-grandchildren, Logan Darland, Taylor Darland, Hunter Dean, and Colton Darland, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Dale Darland and J.W. Darland; three brothers, William D. Sims, Vernon Sims, and Haldon J. Sims, and two sisters, Dorothy Sanders and Louise Harlow.

The funeral was conducted Monday, June 21 at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bruce Sims, Mike Matherly, and Eddie, Brent, Chip and Henry Combs.

Honorary bearers were Willard Hamm, Joe Harlow, Timothy Doyle Darland and Christopher Keith Darland.

KATHLEEN FOWLER

Kathleen Fowler, 83, 402 North College St., wife of Harold Fowler, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at her home.

Born Jan. 21, 1921 in Nicholas County, she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Eliza Flynn Morris.

She was the former owner and operator of Fowler's Nursing Home in Harrodsburg.

In addition to her husband, survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Samuel, Hudson and Marvin Morris, and by one sister, Lurleen (Calvin) Wiley.

No visitation or services.

Local arrangements are being handled by the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Humane Society, 896 Moberly Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, the Mercer Historical Society, 220 Chiles Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or to the charity of one's choice.

FLORENCE LOGAN

Florence Cunningham Logan, 77, Montclair/Glen Ridge, NJ, died June 5, 2004 at her residence.

Born July 7, 1926 in Salvisa, she was a daughter of the late Finley and Elizabeth Cunningham.

She was a graduate of Howard University and Youngstown State University. She was a retired RN hospital administrator-patient advocate at United Hospitals in Newark, NJ where she also helped develop inservice training for foreign nurses. She was a charter member of the Youngstown, OH chapter of The Links, Inc. and transferred to the North Jersey chapter in the 1970s. She belonged to the NJ chapter of Girlfriends, Inc. and worked on committees at the Newark Symphony, Newark Museum and Montclair Museum.

Survivors include: two daughters, Leanora Logan and JoAnn Logan Daniels; one brother, Prof. Wayman B. Cunningham; two grandchildren, Jewell L. Daniels III and Eric C. Daniels.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Finnell, and one brother, William Hade Cunningham.

Cremation is private.

A memorial service will be held in NJ in Sept. Details to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 66 Mt. Prospect Ave., Clifton, NJ 07015.

HELEN McGAUGHEY

Helen Louise Perry McGaughey, 86, Shelbyville, widow of Clarence McGaughey, died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Valley View Health Care and Rehabilitation Center of Taylorsville.

Born Aug. 17, 1917 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ann Proctor Perry.

She was the former manager of Lord's Dress Shop in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty McGaughey Arington of Cincinnati; four grandsons, Jeffrey, Richard, Phillip and Christopher Arington of Cincinnati, and 12 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Monday, June 21 at the Grove Hill Cemetery Chapel of Shelbeyville with Pastor Jeffrey Arington officiating. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Hall-Taylor Funeral Home, Inc. in Shelbyville.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the charity of the donor's choice.

FLOYD TRIMBLE

Floyd C. Trimble, 77, Louisville, husband of Margaret Gaines Trimble, died Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Norton Suburban Hospital.

Born June 12, 1927 in Mercer County, he was a son of the late Owen and Opelia Brown Trimble.

He was a retired employee of General Electric Co. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Abraham Masonic Lodge #8 F&AM and the international order of Jobs Daughters.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters, Debbie (James) Reece and Cathy Frank; one brother, Lloyd Trimble of Harrodsburg; five grandchildren, Renee, Melissa and Glenn Reece, Katie Frank and Amanda Phillips, and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Makayla and Adam.

A masonic service was held Friday, June 18.

The funeral was held Saturday, June 19 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park Mausoleum.
