HAZEL ARNOLD

Hazel Cannon Arnold, 80, of N. Third Street, Danville, formerly of Perryville Road, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born June 7, 1924, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Bertie Leonard Cannon. She was the widow of Wilfred Arthur Arnold.

She was a homemaker and member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Brent Arnold, Lexington; two sisters, Geneva Stakelin and Lorraine Kurtz, both of Lexington; and one brother, Forrest Cannon, Harrodsburg.

Graveside services were held in Springhill Cemetery, Harrodsburg, by Rev. Jimmy Owens.

There was no visitation.

Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may go to the Humane Society of Lexington.

GERALDENE CHEAK

Geraldene J. Cheak, 62, wife of Melvin Cheak, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.

Born September 14, 1942 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Zelma Demaree Cosby.

She was a retired administrative assistant for the University of Kentucky and was a member of Athens Christian Church, a Kentucky Colonel and the Disabled Veterans.

Survivors, other than her husband, include: two daughters, Angie and Terri Cheak; two sons, William (Jamie) Cheak, and Jeff Cheak; one sister, Ruth Ann (Bill) Conover, Harrodsburg; one brother, Ronald M. (Mary) Cosby; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, by Rev. Kenny Speaks and Brother Don Frye. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers were Tom Searcy, Matt and Marc Presson, David Glaser, Dr. Clive Robinson, and Richard Cheak. Honorary bearers were John Jackson, Charlie Schultz, Kent Devries, Christopher Fornash, Ike Watson, Gary Compton, and Dr. Paul DeFranco.

Contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, N. Canton, Ohio 44720, K.O.D.A. 106 East Broadway, Louisville, KY 40202, or American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, KY Region, 333 Guthrie St., Ste. 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

MARY L. COKER

Mary L. Coker, 87, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

RUTH DENNY
Ruth Adeline Denny, 91, 526 East Main Street, Burgin, wife of Homer Cecil Denny, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 29, 1913 in Burgin, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Myrtle McCrosky Trisler.

She was a graduate of Burgin High School. She and her husband owned and operated Denny’s Grocery in Burgin from 1962-1978. She also had worked as a clerk at the Harrodsburg Five and Dime for several years and was a kindergarten teacher in Leatherwood, KY for a few years. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Joe (June) Denny of Lawrenceburg,; one brother, Robert (Betty) Trisler of Harrodsburg; two grandsons, and four great-grandchidren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20 at 1 p.m. at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Revs. James Heard, Harold Best and George Dye officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lee Sharp, Jack Springate, George Buchanan and Phillip, Larry and John David Trisler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Frank L. Howard, Lloyd Phillips, William Ervin Buchanan, Harvey Baker, Horace Sharp, Vernon Record, John Sparks and Jay Vadelli.

Visitation Thursday after 5 p.m. and Friday prior to the service at the funeral chapel.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Kentucky Baptist Children´s Home.

HERMAN DRURY

Herman L. Drury, 82, 1538 Ashby Road, Lawrenceburg, widower of Eula Faye Harlow Drury, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort.

Born September 20, 1922 in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Bert and Norie Satterly Drury.

He served in the Army during World War II. He was a farmer and a tree trimmer.

Survivors include: two daughters, Lena Francis “Fran” Wilkins of Versailles and Bonita Tingle of Harrodsburg; three sons, Richard Daryl Drury of Harrodsburg, Hermon Leon Drury of Campbellsville, and Vernon Dewayne Drury of Lawrenceburg; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services were conducted Wednesday, May 18 at 2 p.m. in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Mercer County.

JEAN FARTHING

Jean Farthing, 56, of 724 Parkway Avenue, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 at her home.

Born December 20, 1948 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt L. and Mattie Louise Henry Pearson.

She was a retired medical transcriber at Ephraim McDowell Medical Center and a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Susan Gibson Feeback, Harrodsburg; one son, Casey Alan Farthing, Harrodsburg; one brother, Jim W. Pearson, Harrodsburg; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17, at St. Andrew Catholic Church by Father Joseph Muench with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Chris McKinney, Brandon McKinney, Gene Moore, Jack Pearson, Sr., Jack Pearson, Jr., and Pat Pearson.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

CARL GOODLETT

Carl Preston Goodlett, 77, of 1080 Mt. Eden Road, Lawrenceburg, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born March 1, 1928 in Shelbyville, he was the son of the late William Robert and Bessie Willy Mae Preston Goodlett.

He was a retired tool and die maker.

Survivors include: two daughters, Carole Joyce Goodlett, Lawrenceburg, and Lynn G. Schlatter, Louisville; five sisters, Lena Gill, Frankfort, Dorthey Kendell and Margaret Hawkins, both of Lawrenceburg, Rosie Homes, Southville, and Juanita Swigert, Shelbyville; four brothers, Bob Goodlett, Louisville, Ray Goodlett, Barbourville, Eugene Goodlett, Taylorsville, and Paul Goodlett, Pendleton; one stepson, Kenneth Sallee; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, May 17, at the Shelbyville Cemetery.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

NATHAN HARRIS

Nathan Green Harris, 23, Atwood, KS, formerly of Columbia, MO, died Saturday, May 14, 2005 in Kansas.

Born December 2, 1981 in International Falls, MN he was the son of Stephen J. and Cynthia B. Green Harris.

He was a 2000 graduate of Hickman High School, where he was involved with FFA and wrestling. He enjoyed gymnastics; his passion was flying, and he earned his private pilot’s license in Boonville during high school. He was a 2004 graduate of the University of Minnesota, Crookston where he earned a bachelor of science in agricultural aviation and also obtained his commercial pilot’s license. He also graduated from Ag-Flight, Inc. of Bainbridge, GA in 2004. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Columbia and was attending Redeemer Lutheran Church in Atwood, KS. He participated in Civil War re-enactments as a member of Gates First Missouri Calvary.

Survivors include: one sister, Cadet Comrie E. Harris of The U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; one brother, Stephen “Hawk” Harris of Columbia; various relatives, including one aunt, Wendy (Michael) Camic, cousins Brenna and Courtney Camic, and one grandmother, Gladys Green, all of Harrodsburg.

Services will be Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

Visitation Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 West, Columbia, MO 65202.

WILLIAM KEELING

William Keeling, 68, of Danville Road, Lancaster, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 at his residence.

Born June 6, 1936, he was a son of the late James C. and Rose Fowler Keeling.

He was retired from North American Phillips Lighting Corp. after 30 years of service, and worked in security at American Greetings. He was a member of Burgin Baptist Church and the widower of Dorothy Cain Keeling.

Survivors include: one son, Rick (Jan) Keeling, Versailles; and one daughter, Vickie Keeling Shelton, Crab Orchard; two stepsons, Roy (Sadie) Cain and Dane (Shelby) Cain, both of Lancaster; two brothers, J.C. Keeling and Curtis (Anna Ruth) Keeling, both of Burgin; one sister, Juanita (Robert) Moss, Harrodsburg; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Cain Keeling, one brother, Burchell Keeling, and a sister, Ann Walls.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 13, at Spurlin Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Rev. John Cato and David Young. Burial was in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jason and David Keeling, Jerry and Llyric Perkins, Keith and Lynn Moss.

Honorary pallbearer was Bill Borden.

LIZ LAY

Liz Stringfield Lay, 81, of Warwick Road, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at her home.

Born May 15, 1924 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Virgie Milburn Frye. She was the widow of Eugene Lay.

She was owner of Village Inn in Burgin and had owned Pioneer Restaurant in Harrodsburg.

She was a former manager of Bowlarama restaurant and Bun Boy Restaurant. She was a Methodist, a graduate of Perryville High School and a charter member and past president of Danville Women's Bowling Association.

She had been an Avon beauty consultant for 20 years and was given many awards by Avon.

Survivors include: one son, Billy Stringfield, Danville; three brothers, Jimmy Frye and William Frye, both of Lexington, and Larry Frye, Pensacola, FL; two sisters, Betty Ann Frye, Harrodsburg and Margaret Mattingly, Lexington; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, James C. Stringfield.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19 (today), at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

LEON ROBINSON

Leon Robinson, 64, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

HAZEL ROGERS

Hazel Marie Rogers, 79, of Old Hustonville Road, Danville, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born June 18, 1925 in Casey County, she was the daughter the late George and Della Baxter Turpin. She was the widow of Lawrence Rogers.

She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include: two sons, Arnold and James C. Cook, both of Junction City; four sisters, Lucille West and Mildred Reynolds, both of Junction City, Mabel Lechoke, Harrodsburg and Lula Lister, Shepherdsville; two brothers, Hubert and Estil Turpin, both of Perryville; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday, May 15, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville. Burial was in Perryville Cemetery.

SARAH ROWE

Sarah Elizabeth Rowe, 81, of 318 Sexton Lane, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 23, 1923 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Wayne and Mary B. Bradford Sexton. She was the widow of Marion Walter Rowe. Sr.

She was a homemaker and active member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church. She loved to travel and entertain and was an avid amateur photographer.

Survivors include: two sons, James (Laurie) Rowe, Big Lake, AK, and Walter (Nancy) Rowe Jr., Harrodsburg; and several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Steven Rowe, and a brother, Harvey “Buddy” Sexton.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 17, at the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Owens and Dr. David Ross officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ron Bradford, Taylor and David Lunsford, Wayne Sexton and H.J. and Steve Sims.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Harrodsburg United Methodist Church, 102 South Chiles Street, Harrodsburg , KY 40330.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
