WILLIAM JACKSON
William Mack Jackson, M.D., 67, Danville, husband of Gerry Lowrey Jackson, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at his home.

Born Sept. 26, 1937 in Louisville, he was a son of the late Chrisman Spears Jackson, M.D. and Gladys Hendren Jackson.

He was an orthopedic surgeon in Danville and was an elder in the First Presbyterian Church. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Hagan Jackson of Danville and Tate Jackson of Louisville; one daughter, Lowrey Jackson, also of Danville; three brothers, Dr. Johnny Jackson of Ft. Worth, TX and Dr. Chris Jackson and Dr. Elmer Jackson, both of Danville, and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, William Mack Jackson Jr.

A memorial service was held Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Danville. Burial was in the Harlan Bruce Cemetery in Danville.

Pallbearers were Hagan, Tate, Lowrey, Chris, Elmer and Johnny Jackson and Red Neilson.

Honorary pallbearers were the male chorus of First Baptist Church of Danville and the Shared Silence group.

Arrangements were handled by Spurlin Funeral Home of Stanford.

EARL MOLEN

Earl H. "Johnny" Molen, 75, of Lancaster, died Friday, July 8, 2005,

Born January 1, 1930, in Wayne County, he was the son of Maggie Lee Lovell Molen and the late Herstel Tate Molen.

He was a retired certified public accountant and a member of United Centenary Methodist Church in Danville. He was a member of Gideon International and an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Additional survivors include: his wife, Jo Ann Molen; two daughters, Connie Wiles, Berea and Jonda St. John, Danville; one son, Scott Molen, Nashville; one step-son, Charles Bacon, Lexington; two step-daughters, Rebecca Daly and Priscilla Flynn, both of Lancaster; one brother, Ray Molen, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Marilyn Ann Zebell, Somerset and Margaret York, Monticello; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, July 11, at Spurlin Funeral Home, Lancaster, by the Rev. Quintin Schulpz, with military rites by American Legion Caswell Saufley Post #18. Burial will be in Camp Nelson Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Daly, Jimbo Flynn, John Molen, Samuel Molen, Ray Molen and Jameson Flynn.

Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Crowell, Harold Martin, Chuck Dulmage, Bob Gorley and the men of the Pruitt Sunday School Class of United Centenary Methodist Church of Danville.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Monday.

Memorials may go to the Pruitt Sunday School Class of United Centenary Methodist Church of Danville.

MARGIE SAYLOR
Margie L. Saylor, 79, Kettering, OH, wife of Aubrey Saylor, died Tuesday, July 12, 2005 in Ohio.

Born July 6, 1926 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Winfield and Mary Leonard Russell.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kettering. She was a former employee of Sunshine Biscuit and of Kettering Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one brother, Leo Russell of Akron, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judy Carolyn Pennington; two brothers, Woodrow and Romie Russell, and three sisters, Lucille Bugg, Caltha B. Payton and Evalene Pennington.

The funeral will be Friday, July 15 at 1 p.m. at Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial will be in the Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ernie Vinyard, Barry Dean, David Russell, Marshall Cochran, Jason Gaddis and Scott Payton.

Visitation Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Tobias Funeral Home ­ Belmont Chapel in Dayton, OH and Friday after 11 a.m. at the church.

Local arrangements are being handled by Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

LILLIE SETTLES
Lillie Pearl Settles, 89, Shreveport, LA, died Tuesday, July 5, 2005 after a brief illness.

Born Dec. 19, 1915 in Washington County, she was a daughter of the late Ben and Dora Pruitt Sallee.

Survivors include: one daughter, Linda Settles Patterson of Shreveport; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Peggy Ann Nugent and Marilyn Settles; one son, Randall Settles, and one sister, Gladys Curry.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 9 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry and Gary Grider, Todd and Nicholas Collier and Marvin and Reuben Deringer.

MARY STEPHENSON
Mary Kilpatrick Stephenson, 91, 120 Sycamore Ct., widow of Elmer Coy Stephenson, died Saturday, July 9, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born June 9, 1914 in Hookerton, NC, she was the daughter of the late Luther Sanders and Virginia Brantley Kilpatrick.

She and her husband owned and operated the Harrodsburg Dairy for many years. The company was the first milk pasteurizing plant in the region and supplied hospitals, schools, grocery stores and homes with pasteurized milk. After selling the company to Southern Belle, they owned and operated the Flavor Freeze drive-in restaurant in Harrodsburg. She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women and the Women’s Circle.

Survivors include: Son-in-law, John “Skeeter” Reed of Harrodsburg; two granddaughters, Kathy Reed (Richard Dartt, M.D.) Dartt of Harrodsburg and Jeanne Reed (Stephen Pinkston, M.D.) Pinkston; two grandsons, Franklin (Robin) Reed and Stephen (Missy Tatum) Reed, formerly of Harrodsburg; two nieces; three nephews; 10 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by one daughter; Phyllis S. Reed.

Graveside services were held Monday, July 11 at Spring Hill Cemetery with Dr. Joe Tarry officiating. Stephen Reed delivered the eulogy.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Harrodsburg Presbyterian Foundation.

JAMES STINNETT JR.

James Stinnett Jr., 72, 1194 Mackville Rd., died Friday, July 8, 2005 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Jan. 27, 1933 in Nicholasville, he was a son of the late J. W. and Florence Lowry Stinnett.

He was a Marine Corps. veteran of the Korean War. He was retired from the Kentucky State Road Department and had also worked for Mullins Heating and Air Conditioning in Lexington. He loved history and was a wood carving enthusiast.

Survivors include: one daughter, Clara Jean (Ronnie) Moore and one son, Charles Edward (Kim) Stinnett, both of Harrodsburg; two sisters, Goldie Miller and JoAnn Atwell, and two brothers, Chester Stinnett and Melvin Stinnett, all of Nicholasville; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

The funeral was held Sunday, July 10 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Gary Story officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grand-children.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Heritage Hospice, P.O. Box 1213, Danville, KY 40422.

MORRISON YOUNG
Morrison “Jack” Young, 74, Deland, FL, husband of Nora Lawson Young, died Monday, July 4, 2005 at the Deland Hospital.

Born Dec. 12, 1930 in Perryville, he was the son of the late Marcus and Mary Bradley Young.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Ormond Beach, FL. He was a retired lineman for the Cincinnati Gas and Electric Company and Union Light and Power Company.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: three daughters, Jackie Mesina of West Chester, OH and Sandra Coons and Monica Carroll, both of Anchorage, AK; three sisters-in-law, including Frances Young of Harrodsburg; several nieces and nephews in Mercer and Boyle counties, and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, James Kevin Young.

The funeral was held Monday, July 11 at the Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington. Burial was in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted Military Rites for James Stinnett Jr. at Spring Hill Cemetery July 10.

Those attending were:

Tom Rappeleye, Curtis Sherrow, Joe Harlow, Lucian Landers, Earl Sherrow and Howard H. Howells Sr.

U.S. Marine representatives from M. P. Company A in Lexington were Cpl. T. J. Brown, LCpl. Jeff Ford and LCpl. Alicia Waters.

Bugler was Jerry Freeman.

NELL ASHFORD

Nell W. Ashford, 79, Tabler Avenue, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born January 3, 1926 in Mercer County, she was a daughter of the late Lytle Cecil and Lucy Dean Wiley.

She was retired from the state human resources department and was a member of the Ebenezer Church of Christ.

Survivors include: one daughter, Debbie (Bruce) Klausing of Louisville; one son, Ronald W. (Cindy) Ashford of Lexington; one sister, Zelma (Pat) Duncan of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, and 10 great- grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Ashford, and two grandsons.

The funeral was held Sunday, July 17 at Ransdell Funeral Chapel with John Kessell, John David Lane and Paul Klausing officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Rodney Noel, Ronnie Wiley, Don Goodlett, Jimmy and Kenny Dean and Mike Coyle.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike Matherly, Dr. John Baughman, Sarah Craddock, Peggy Roark, Elsie Pinkston, Kathy Briscoe, Julie Mattingly, Lee Nevius and Trudy Sutherland.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, American Heart Fund, or to the Asthma Foundation.

MARY JO BECKNELL

Mary Jo Becknell, 80, of Lexington, widow of Chester A. Becknell, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at Hospice Care Center.

Born in Lexington, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Laura Coy.

Survivors include: one son, Jim (Kay) Becknell, Charlestown, IN; three daughters, Judy Hicks, Nicholasville, Kathy Milburn and Steve Hawkins, Versailles, and Becky (Rick) Davis, Salvisa; five grandchildren, Amy Minton, Ron Milburn Jr. and Michael, Chad, and Jason Becknell; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Louise Brown, Versailles.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, and after 11 am Thursday until time of service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of the Bluegrass-2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

MARY BUSTER

Mary Lee Rowland Buster, 94, widow of Edward Everett Buster, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Lexington Country Place.

Born Jan. 28, 1911 in Nelson County, she was a daughter of the late John Patterson and Mary Humphrey Rowland.

She had lived in Anderson and Mercer counties, in Wilmore, Frankfort, Oak Ridge, TN and Bradford, PA. She was a graduate of Wilmore High School. She prepared for elementary teaching at Asbury College and the University of Kentucky and taught in Mercer County at Braxton, Hickory Grove and Hilltop schools. Later she was employed by the State of Kentucky in various governmental offices. She was an active member of Wilmore Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one brother, Russell Rowland of Cleveland, OH; two nephews, and nine nieces, including Carol Conover of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Stratton of Mercer County and Myrtle Roe of Princeton, WV, and four brothers, Samuel and Burt of Harrodsburg, Robert of Louisville and Arthur of Hobbs, NM.

The funeral will be Friday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Betts and West Funeral Home in Nicholasville with Rev. Jamie Williams officiating. Burial will be in the Rowland family plot at the Nicholasville Cemetery.

Visitation today, Thursday, July 21 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

BENORA DEMAREE

Benora S. Demaree, 96, Louisville, widow of Curtis A. Demaree, died Monday, July 18, 2005 at Wesley Manor.

She was born in Harrodsburg.

Survivors include two nieces and one nephew.

The funeral will be today, Thursday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home, 3331 Taylorsville Rd., Louisville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Visitation Wednesday from 4 until 8 p.m.

JERRY FANNIN

Jerry D. Fannin, 56, Lexington, husband of Joyce Brinkley Fannin, died Sunday, July 17, 2005 at the Hospice Care Center.

Born Nov. 5, 1948 in Lexington, he was the son of the late James Smith and Garnetta Marshall Fannin.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was a television engineer for the University of Kentucky, he was an avid music lover, and he was a bass guitarist.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sisters, Elaine Allen of Ocala, FL and Sandra Perkins of Stanford; one brother, Robert Lee Fannin of Frankfort, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, William R. and Betty Brinkley of Harrodsburg.

The funeral was held Tuesday, July 19 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road, Lexington with Rev. Don Chase officiating. Burial was in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roger Bondurant, John Ireson, Tommy Johnson, Steve Lyon, Sky Jack Miller, Bruce Rutherford, Bill Wagers and Earl Watkins.

Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.

MARTHA GUINN

Martha Kurtz Guinn, 68, of Earl Street, died Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Lola Christerson Kurtz.

She was a homemaker and a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three daughters, Lola Guinn Hill and Margaret Guinn Broach, both of Danville, and Paula Guinn Gaddis, Junction City; one son, James Talmadge Guinn, Danville; one sister, Barbara Kurtz Morris, Danville; two brothers, Homer Kurtz, Danville and Ben Kurtz Jr., Lexington; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 19, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home, Danville, by the Rev. Barry Delaney. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery, Harrodsburg.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Broach, Alicia Sosh, Jimmy Guinn, Dale Knight, Jeff Morris and Gerald Wethington.

Honorary pallbearers are Samantha Hill, Tom Broach, Gary Gaddis, Scott Morris, Travis Pike and Mary Ellen Cox Hudson.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday.

RANDALL KIRKLAND

Randall Kirkland, 47, son of Kenneth and Audrey Kirkland, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005.

Arrangements are incomplete at Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home.

LUCRETIA LANE

Lucretia Mae Lane, 59, of Matherly Road, Liberty, died Tuesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 29, 1945, in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Delilah Teller Byrd.

She was homemaker, a member of South Fork Baptist Church and the widow of Edwin Lane.

Survivors include: one son, Dale Lane, Liberty; two daughters, Sheila Franklin and Donna Lane, both of Liberty; two sisters, Patsy Schoeble, Danville, and Thelma Lester, Harrodsburg; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Randy and Robert Lane.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home by Clifford DeHart. Burial will be in Oak Grove-Contown Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Franklin, Michael Propes, Randall Lawless, Brian Hines, Robbie Lawrence and Paul Cox.

Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Thursday and after 8 a.m. Friday.

WANDA SAMS

Wanda Jewell Sams, 67, of Shakertown Road, wife of Bennie Sams, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 18, 1938, in Duncan, she was the daughter of Lori Beasley Sims Bailey of Harrodsburg and the late Ralph Sims.

She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church in Somonauk, Ill.

Other survivors include: her husband, Bennie Sams; two daughters, Kimberly A. Denny, DeKalb, Ill., and Susan M. Walton, Kitzigen, Germany; one stepdaughter, Kathy Blood, Mount Plymouth, FL; three sons, Larry R. Denny, Sycamore, Ill., David D. Denny, Junction City, and Terry W. Denny, Danville; two stepsons, Bennie W. Sams Jr., Huntington, IN, and Randy C. Sams, Eustis, FL; one sister, Diane Lee, Maiden, NC; seven grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth A. Denny.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 18, at Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home by the Rev. Donnie Irvin. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ralphie and Jesse Maness, Joey Brown, John Sams, Kevin O'Neil, and Danny Adams.

Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Monday.
