Kentucky Marriage Records by County

ELIZABETH TERHUNE

Elizabeth Rose Semonies Terhune, 89, of Russellville, formerly of Danville, died Sunday, July 23, 2006 in Nashville, TN.

Born in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Henry Ester Gray Semonies. She was the widow of Eugene "Red" Terhune.

She was a 45-year employee of Hub Frankel, a former member of First Baptist Church and a current member of Southern Heights Baptist Church in Russellville.

Survivors include a daughter, Emily Terhune Barrett of Russellville; three grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at the Stith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial donations may be sent to Southern Heights Baptist Church in Russellville or the American Heart Association.

STANLEY AND GLADYS WATTS
Stanley and Gladys Watts, both 74, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at their home.

Mr. Watts was born July 16, 1932 in Mercer County to the late Pattie C. and Mary Yates Watts. Mrs. Watts was born September 25, 1931 in Mercer County to the late Ballard and Love Underwood Burke.

Mr. Watts was a retired automobile dealer who loved automobiles, westerns and enjoyed collecting guns and knives. Mrs. Watts was a retired American Greetings employee and enjoyed her grandchildren, crocheting, and collecting Boyd’s Bears and Owls.

They were members of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church, and they both loved their Pomeranian, Chase.

Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Love (Larry) Strode of Knoxville, TN and Donna Sue (Donnie) Hamilton; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Additional survivors of Mr. Watts include: two brothers, Hanley (Mable) R. Watts of Harrodsburg and J. T. (Evelyn) Watts of Crab Orchard; two sisters, Patsy (Norman) White of Harrodsburg and Nancy Huff of Loveland, OH. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Watts.

Additional survivors of Mrs. Watts include: one sister, Garnetta Warner of Harrodsburg. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William G. Burke and Ballard Randolph Burke Jr., and two sisters, Della Crawford and Helen Joyce.

Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Watts will be held Thursday, July 27 at 2 p.m. at the Shawnee Run Baptist Church with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial will follow in the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mr. Watts will be Marshall Sims Jr., Mark Bowman, James Lazwell, Barry Watts, Troy Watts and John White. Honorary pallbearers will be Armond Bottom, Scottie Anderson and members of his Shawnee Run Baptist Church Sunday school class.

Pallbearers for Mrs. Watts will be Tommy Crawford, Shawn Adkinson, Chris Moore, Lee Mayes, Ronnie Baker and Carroll Drury. Honorary pallbearers will be Barbara Lake, Kenneth Taylor, Cleatis Jenkins, Harry Burke, Donnie Webb and the members of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church Dorcas Sunday school class.

Visitation will be at the church Thursday after 11 a.m.

Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HALDON WILHAM
Haldon Wilham, 71, died Friday, July 21, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born June 26, 1935 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Margie Rose Wilham and was the widower of Wanda Coslow Leonard Wilham.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Freddie Leonard of Mercer County; two daughters, Deborah Spaulding of Lebanon and Beverly Lopez of Springfield; one sister, Loraine (Will) Robinson of Harrodsburg; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Jenkins and Louise Durr.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

GARRY MOORE
Garry Moore, 55, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 21, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 14, 1951 in Inez, he was the son of the late Elmer and Olive Adams Moore and was the husband of Margaret Hall Moore.

He was an employee of Arm Company Steel and a member of the Southern Heights Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons, Timothy W. Moore and David L. Wylie, both of Harrodsburg, Jason R. Moore of Marion, OH, and Gary A. Wylie of Shelby, OH; one daughter, April L. Houston of Danville; one brother, Kenny Ward of Marion; two sisters, Glenna Brandan of Inez and Ruth Horn of Marion, and six grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, July 25 at the Southern Heights Baptist Church with the Revs. James Kelly and Gary Storey officiating. Burial was in Danville Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Tommy Hall, Greg Ramey, David and Gary Wylie and Rick Pittman.

The Stith Funeral Home in Danville was in charge of arrangements

WOODROW CATLETT

Woodrow Catlett, 93, of Catlett Lane, Harrodsburg, died Friday, July 28, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 14, 1913 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late John C. and Cordelia Hungate Catlett and was the widower of Willette Bugg Catlett.

He was a farmer and a member of the Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include: eight nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 31 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Byrd officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carey Keebortz, Gary Hopperton, Brent Crawley, Joe Green, Ricky Catlett and Charles Hudson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 176, Harrodsburg, KY 40330, or to the Bethel #1 Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Perryville Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

GLADYS DAVIS

Gladys L. Davis, 83, of High Bridge Road in Lancaster, died Thursday, July 20, at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born Dec. 3, 1922, in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jean Thompson Naylor. She was the widow of Elmer Davis.

She retired from Cowden's Manufacturing after 27 years of service, and worked with the American Red Cross for 10 years. She was a member of God's Landmark Christian Community Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy (Jimmy) Major, Lancaster; six sisters, Florence McCane, Lula Montgomery, and Irene Durham, all of Lancaster, Marie Merchant, Harrodsburg, Mary Francis Darby, Batesville, MS, and Wilma Wagner of Tacoma, WA; three grandchildren, Ricky (Marcia) Major, Tracey (Gilbert) Edgington, and Kathy Lee; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Harris and J. K. Naylor, a great-granddaughter, Brittany Major, and a grandson-in-law, Timmy Lee.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 24, at Ramsey Funeral Home, officiated by the Rev. Bob Rawlings and the Rev. Daryl Bailey.

Burial followed at Danville Memorial Gardens.

Active pallbearers were Gilbert and Daniel Edginton, Blake Lee, Ricky Major, Joe Naylor, James Merchant, Tracey Edgington and Kathy Lee.

Honorary bearers were Heather Lee, Shavon Edgington, Kim Edgington, Jamie Shockley and Adam Major.

CHARLOTTE HAINSWORTH

Charlotte Kay Hardgrove Hainsworth, 60, of 262 Leawood Dr., Lexington, died Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at Kindred Hospital, Louisville.

She was the former Administrative Assistant for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. She was very politically and socially conscious at the national and international level. She was a member of Crestwood Christian Church and was a former Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Lansdowne Club.

Survivors include: her husband, Bill "Butch" Hainsworth, Lexington, two daughters, Kelly Hainsworth, Lexington, and Katie (Brian) Dunn, Garrard County; one son, Kane Hainsworth, Lexington; one brother, Drew Hardgrove, Mercer County; and three grandchildren, Hannah Dunn, Isabel Dunn and Asher Dunn, all of Lexington.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 2, at the First Christian Church, Lexington Road, Danville with Rev. Bill McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Danville.

Visitation will be Monday, from 5-8 p.m., at Crestwood Christian Church, Lexington, and Tuesday, from 5-8 p.m., at Stith Funeral Home, Danville.

HANNAH SMITH

Hannah Worley Massengill Smith, 91, of Lawrenceburg, and formerly of Sullivan County, TN, died Friday, July 28, 2006, at Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg, KY.

She was born May 25, 1915, in Johnson City, TN, and was the daughter of the late F. D. and Ollie Cox Massengill.

She was raised on the family “Valley Creek” farm and was a graduate of East Tennessee State University where she acquired her Masters degree in teaching. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught in the Sullivan County and the Bristol Tennessee school systems for 37 years. She was also a lifelong member of the Bluff City United Methodist Church, a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society and a member of both the Sullivan County and Bristol Tennessee Retired Teacher’s Association.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Aldine Smith; two sisters, Virginia Lee Galloway and Mary Elizabeth McKamey Crumley.

Survivors include: one son, Joe T. Smith, Harrodsburg; one granddaughter, Vaughn Hannah Smith, also of Harrodsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2006, at the Akard Funeral Home. A funeral procession will then proceed to the graveside in Morning View Cemetery for the funeral service with Dr. E. D. Nelson officiating.

KENNETH TAYLOR
Kenneth Douglas Taylor, 81, of Richmond, died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Richmond Health and Rehab-Kenwood.

Born Sept. 16, 1924 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Oscar Lee and Edna Prather Matherly Taylor and was the husband of Virginia Sexton Taylor.

He was a retired postal clerk of the U.S. Post Office in Richmond and was the owner of Taylor¹s Sporting Goods. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he had formerly served as an usher for many years and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Gina Taylor (Steve) Rupard of Richmond; one sister, Mary Taylor Murphy of Danville; one grandson, Stephen Allen (Sara) Rupard of Richmond; one great-granddaughter, and several other relatives and friends.

Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the Combs, Parsons and Collins Funeral Home in Richmond with the Revs. Bill Fort and Curtis H. Warf officiating. Burial was in Richmond Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Steve Rupard, Stephen Rupard, David Allen Taylor, Shannon Combs, Don Moore and David Parks.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Friendship Sunday School class.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, 425 Eastern By-Pass, Richmond, KY 40475.

CHRISTINE BENTLEY
Christine Margaret Bentley, 82, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 in Evansville, IN.

Born Feb. 16, 1924 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Edward Lee and Georgia Proctor Franklin, and was the wife of James Elmer Bentley.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Pleasant Hill Christian Church in Mt. Eden.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: four sons, Jack T. Bentley of Harrodsburg, Bruce A. Bentley of Crystal River, FL, and Don H. Bentley and James Michael Bentley, both of Eustis, FL; four daughters, Janet B. Burgin and Betty Sue Shewmaker, both of Harrodsburg, Brenda B. Pruitt of Danville and Joan B. Sewell of Evansville, IN; 16 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

A private service was held Wednesday, Aug. 9 with the Rev. Roy Temple Jr. officiating. Burial was in Best Cemetery in Mt. Eden.

Pallbearers were Joseph Burgin, King Pruitt, Dr. Frank Sewell and Calvin Shewmaker III.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Vista Care Hospice Foundation, 323 Metro Ave., Evansville, IN 47715.

The Preston-Pruitt Funeral Home in Danville was in charge of arrangements.

SADA CAREY
Sada J. Carey, 93, of Lexington, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.

A native of Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late J. L. Sheperson and Adeline Owens Sheperson, and was the widow of Marvin Carey.

She was retired from the Wolf Wiles department store. She was a member of the Tates Creek Christian Church for 59 years, and was a member of the Cross and Crown Sunday school class, the Hannah-Lydia Circle and the B.W.A. Club.

Survivors include: three sisters, Loraine Burns of Burgin, Mollie Carey of Lexington and Isabell Cummins of Celina, TN; one brother, Wallace Sheperson of Mercer County; special nephew, Bruce W. Carey; special friend, Mary Nagle, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Robert Sheperson.

Services were held Saturday, Aug. 5 at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland in Lexington with Dr. Brad Walden and the Rev. Tommy Simpson officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Wickersham, Bobby Sheperson, Gerald Sheperson, Jim Burns, David Wade and Jerry Gray.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. John Craycraft, Bro. Jim Walters, Joseph Deifel, Jeff Pearson, Bob Combs, Arthur Abshire, Earl Balden, Clayton Kiser, Harold Crosby, Darwin Allen, Jack Baker, Bruce Baker, Richard Florez and Dr. John Borders.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tates Creek Christian Church or to the charity of one’s choice.

MATTHEW CARLTON

Matthew Williams Carlton, 37, of Lawrenceburg died Thursday, August 3, 2006 in Lawrenceburg.

Born November 14, 1968, he was the son of Cheri Brown Carlton and Jerry W. Carlton, both of Lawrenceburg.

He was a 1987 graduate of Anderson County High School and received a degree in history from the University of Kentucky. He was a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church and worked as a newspaper carrier for the Lexington Herald-Leader. He enjoyed traveling, reading and studying history.

Additional survivors include: his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Naomi Brown of Lawrenceburg; two brothers, Will (Jessi) Carlton, Harrodsburg, and Graham Carlton, Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clay Carlton; his maternal grandfather, Thurman Brown; and his paternal grandparents, R. B. and Belle Carlton.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 7, at the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church with Rev. Jim Wheeler and Rev. Charles Brumley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 – 9 p.m. Sunday at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Fields, Robby Vaughn, Steve Burgin, Stephen Burgin, Chad Carlton and Cole Carlton.
