LARRY GRIMES

Larry Grimes, 57, of Liberty, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born May 17, 1949, in Fayette County, he was a son of James Grimes of Harrodsburg and the late Mable Maxine McDonald Grimes.

He was a farm gate dealer.

Survivors also include one daughter, Susan Riley, Louisville; and two brothers, Ronnie Grimes, Liberty and Bruce Grimes, Harrodsburg.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, by Clifford DeHart. Burial will be in Thomas Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday.

G. B. HAWKINS
G. B. Hawkins II, 67, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at his home.

Born May 23, 1939 in Frankfort, he was the son of the late Morris Searcy and Alta Mae Frazier Hawkins, and was the husband of Deborah Fallis Hawkins.

He was a retired 46-year supervisor with the Wild Turkey Distillery, and was a member of the Lawrenceburg First Christian Church. He was a 1957 Anderson High School graduate and enjoyed all Anderson County sports.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Kay Lelynn Hawkins (Mike) Corley of Lawrenceburg; two sons, Jeffrey Frazier “Hawk” Hawkins and Maurice Stephen Hawkins, both of Lawrenceburg; two step-daughters, Leigh Nicole Flynn of Lawrenceburg and Angelia Marie (Chris) Lawson of Burgin; one step-son, Stephen Keith Flynn of Lawrenceburg; seven grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, and one step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one son, Gratz Brown Hawkins III.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home with Bros. Mark Webb and Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Anderson County Sports Scholarship Fund, c/o Integra Bank, 100 Main Street, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

DUMPY LAMAR
William Lloyd “Dumpy” Lamar, 55, of Bloomfield, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at the Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown.

Born Nov. 25, 1950 in Springfield, he was the son of the late William Taylor and Margaret Speaks Lamar, and was the husband of Minnie “Penny” Lamar.

He was a truck driver for the Jim Beam Distillery in Clermont, an avid University of Louisville Cardinal fan, and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Chaplin.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one step-daughter, Rita Mudd of Bardstown, and two sisters, Norma Murphy and Betty Harris, both of Shelbyville.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Mason.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the Second Baptist Church in Bloomfield with the Revs. Robert Marshall and Louis Hughley officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dennis Downs, Ricky Hahn, Donnie Stivers, Donnie Graham, Ed Stivers and William Drake.

The Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

GEORGE MIDDLETON
George Dee Middleton, 59, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Feb. 21, 1947 in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Andrew and Ona Mae Hiter Middleton, and was the husband of Judy Nelson Middleton.

He was a retired Corning Incorporated maintenance employee of 36 years and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons, Billy Middleton, Danny (Tonya) Middleton, Darrell Middleton and Chris Middleton; two daughters, Crystal Noel and Shelly Middleton; two brothers, Raymond (Rose) Middleton and Mickey Middleton; three sisters, Jean Tarter, Rosalee Davis and Jenny Moss; twelve grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Donnie Middleton, and one sister, Hattie Middleton.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Bro. Harold Best officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery in Stanford.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Middleton, Shaun Wheeler, Steve Butler, Kyle Butler, Chris Worthington and Joe Tarter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Sherrow, Eddie Horn, Virgil Peyton, Billy Sea, R. C. Robinson and Brad Ingram.

Visitation at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday from 7-8 a.m., and at the church Thursday from 9 a.m. until the hour of service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel Baptist Church Building Fund, 1280 Faulkners Station Road, Danville, KY 40422.

CHARLES RENFRO

Charles William Renfro, Jr., 89, of Pleasantwood Drive, Danville, a retired podiatrist, died Monday, September 25, 2006 at the Danville Centre for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born June 19, 1917, in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Charles William and Lottie Bradford Saker Renfro. He was the widower of Dorothy Elinor Coleman Renfro.

He was a podiatrist in Danville for more than 50 years and retired in 1990. He graduated from Harrodsburg High School and the Illinois College of Chiropody and Foot Surgery.

Renfro was member and past president of the Danville Rotary Club where he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow and for perfect attendance for 61 years. He had served 20 years and was former chairman of the Danville Board of Education. He was also the former chairman of the Central Kentucky Region of the Kentucky School Boards Association.

He served in the Navy Medical Corps during World War II and was involved in the Normandy Invasion. He was a member and deacon of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth "Betty" Holtzclaw, Danville; one son, Charles Coleman Renfro, Danville; a sister, Sue Stanifer of Helen, GA; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 28, at Bellevue Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may go to the Lexington Avenue Baptist Church History Committee.

FRANK RICHARDS
Frank Richards, 74, of Wilson Ridge Road, Liberty, died Wednesday, September 20, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Danville.

Born April 29, 1932, in Casey County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Effie Cox Richards.

He was retired form RCA in Indianapolis and a member of Atwoods Chapel United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners.

Survivors include: his wife, Bobbie Murphy Richards; four sisters, Alma Grubbs, Cincinnati, OH, Cora Traylor, Hustonville, Hattie Richards, Harrodsburg, and Faye Duggins, Danville.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 23, at McKinney-Brown Funeral Home, Liberty, by Ed Parton. Burial will be in Wilson Ridge Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

ADAM SEWELL
Services have been scheduled for Robert Adam Sewell, of Sparr, FL, who died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006.

A funeral mass will be held Oct. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Harrodsburg.

He was the son of the late Bob Sewell and of Cecilia Ann Parker and Lewis Crosier of Anthony, FL.

Additional survivors include: one brother, Jamie (Jodie) Sewell of Harrodsburg, and one sister, Jennifer Sewell of Winchester.

KENNETH DRURY

Kenneth Lee Drury, 77, Seattle Dr., Lexington, husband of Juanita Fay Alcorn Drury, died Friday, September 29, 2006.

He was born June 7, 1929 in Woodford County to the late George and Hannah McGohon Drury.

He was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. He loved to square dance, fish, hunt and taking care of his family and friends.

Additional survivors include: four sisters, Minnie Curtsinger, Gay (Robert) Powers, Jane (Joe) Peel and Joyce (Charles) Eades, all of Jessamine County; three brothers, Howard (Betty) Drury-Jessamine County, Edward (Edith) Drury, Jessamine County and Curtis (Mary) Drury, Mercer County; one brother-in-law, Glenn (Beverly) Alcorn, Lexington.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Metcalf, and a brother, Roger Drury.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 2, at Betts & West Funeral Home, Nicholasville, with Rev. Dick Wilkins.

Visitation will be held at 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., Sunday. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Stevie Drury, Jimmy Powers, Roger Drury, Kenny Drury, Frank Eades and John Peel.

Honorary bearers will be Barry Peel, Bobby Powers, Mike, Rick and Tony Drury, Jack Applegate, Bill Ressor, Lowell Newton, Doug Bradley and Bill Wesner.

MARGARET FREEMAN

Margaret Lucille Freeman, 73, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Oct. 30, 1932 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Joe and Jesse Conner White, and was the widow of Garland Freeman.

She was an employee of Beaumont Inn and a member of Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Joe (Diane) Freeman of Burgin; one daughter, Margaret Freeman (Jerry) Gullett of Harrodsburg; two brothers, Bobby White of Harrodsburg and Homer White of Danville; one sister, Ruby Carroll of Burgin; 10 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bros. Victor Slatten and Jack Geurin officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Darrin Smith, Mark Francis, Danny Dunn, Dalton Hurst, James Gullett, Jerry Michael Gullett, Scott Freeman, Ronnie Lyons, Clayton Francis, Jeffrey Bradshaw and Craig Lyons.

Honorary pallbearers were Tanner Cox, Matt Francis, Tyler Dunn, Jared Gullett, Marcus Sosa, Jacob Lyons and Blake Freeman.

KENNETH GABHART
Kenneth Dalton Gabhart, 80, of Mackville, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at his home.

Born April 29, 1926 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Willie Roy and Georgia Willis Shewmaker Gabhart, and was the husband of Helen Hayes Gabhart.

He was a retired farmer and a former small engine mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served as a medic in the Philippine Islands. He was a member of the Mackville Church of Christ, Washington County Gideon Camp and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Mackville.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Carl K. Gabhart of Mackville; one daughter, Alice Ann Clark of Indianapolis, IN; one sister, Helen Willis Darland of ShepherdsvilIe; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with Frank Preston and Jim Cooper officiating. Burial with military rites was in Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon International Memorial Bible Fund.

WALTER GOODPASTER
Walter P. Goodpaster, 84, of Troy, OH, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at Hospice of Dayton.

Born Dec. 9, 1921 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Mason Lee and Ora C. Young Goodpaster, and was the husband of Della B. Brown Goodpaster.

He served as a member of the 89th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #586, Tipp City, OH. He was a retired external grinder for Leland Electric Systems in Vandalia, OH, and was a member of the Troy Baptist Temple.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Gary (Cheryl) Goodpaster of Collierville, TN; three daughters, Betty Abshire (Jerry) Proctor of Colorado Springs, CO, Tina Davis of Tipp City, OH, and Debbie (Terry) Comer of Covington, OH; one brother, James (Lucille) Goodpaster of Frankfort, formerly of Harrodsburg; one sister-in-law, Frances Goodpaster of Cox Creek; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Goodpaster, four brothers and two sisters.

Services were held on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home in Troy, OH, with the Rev. Dr. Rick Arrowood officiating. Burial with military honors will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Troy.

SARA LESTER
Sara R. Lester, 95, of Campbellsville, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at the Taylor Regional Hospital in Campbellsville.

Born April 26, 1911 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mattie Leonard Russell, and was the widow of Thomas Lester.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wilma (George) Gaddie of Campbellsville; two sons, Wallace (Wanda) Lester of Louisville and Devon (Patsy) Lester of Mackville; six grandchildren, Marta Boswell, Carol Hadley, Jane Wheatley, David Gaddie, Ray Gaddie and Rebecca Ford; five great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Grace Claunch; four brothers, Charlie B., John, Marvin and Harvey Russell, and one grandson, Steve Stuart.

Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Kyle Hadley, Daryl Hadley, Kenny Boswell, Landon Dickens, Lee Readnower and James Raley.

JERRY MILLER
Jerry Thomas Miller, 63, of Old Dixville Road, Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 7, 1943 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Sam and Sarah Baker Miller, and was the husband of Marsha Lewis Miller.

He was a retired employee of Corning Glass, Inc. and attended New Harmony Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, William “Bud” Miller and Jason Harmon, both of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Lisa Ransdell of Harrodsburg; one step-son, William (Crystal) Taylor Sr. of Springfield; two step-daughters, Kim (Marty) Long of Harrodsburg and Tammy (Keith) Boblett of Lawrenceburg; three brothers, Dale (Teresa) Miller, David (Sue) Miller and Ronnie (Linda) Miller, all of Harrodsburg; four sisters, Jane (Clarence) Byrd and Jewell Reynolds, both of Harrodsburg, Diane (Leon) Spalding of Fredericktown and Nancy (Murriel) Settles of Springfield; three grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Settles.

Services were held Friday, Sept. 29 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with the Rev. Barry Harmon officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Ross, Tim Darland II, Colby Taylor, Josh Gribbins, Brandon Brooks and Jeremy Claunch.

Honorary pallbearers were Randy Miller, Matt Darland, Landon Miller and Travis Miller.

HUGH PIERCE
Hugh Pierce, 85, of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born May 7, 1921 in Burnetta, he was the son of the late Hugh F. Pierce and Lola Tarter Pierce, and was the husband of Ann Pierce.

He was a member and deacon of Hopewell Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and Northern France. He was a retired store manager of Southern States in Harrodsburg and a funeral attendant of Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. He was a member of Gideon’s International, was a Mason and a member of the Young At Heart Church Club and the Eastern Star.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: four sons, Hugh (Linda) Pierce Jr. of New Jersey, Robert W. (Deborah) Pierce of Frankfort, Roger D. (Christina) Pierce of Lexington and David B. (Anni) Pierce of Harrodsburg; one daughter, Linda C. (Mike) Inman of Salvisa; two brothers, Charles Pierce of Somerset and Russell Pierce of Jamestown; one sister, Mavis Wesley of Somerset; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, Josephine Landers, Ruth Molden, Mabel Thompson and Willie Ard.

Services will be held Thursday, Oct. 5 at 2:30 p.m. at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Brian Burkhead officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Hugh Pierce III, Wade Pierce, Jeff Pierce, Dr. Robert C. Pierce, Jason Pierce, James Inman, Seth Pierce, Christopher M. Pierce, Blake Doyle and Richard Mundell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leslie Inman, Nicki Mundell, Brandy Pierce, Carrie Doyle, Chandler Pierce and Lisa Olynk.

Visitation at the funeral home Wednesday from 5-9 p.m. and Thursday after 7 a.m.

EARL ROYALTY
Earl Royalty, 83, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Aug. 31, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late William Moore and Lula Mae Cinnamon Royalty, and was the husband of Oneda Mobley Royalty.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a retired Kentucky Utilities employee of 37 years. He was a member of the Shawnee Run Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, westerns, CMT, spending time with his grandchildren, collecting arrowheads and gardening.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Doug (Eleanor) Royalty of Lexington; two daughters, Vickie (Tony) McGuire of Harrodsburg and Sandy (Joey) Hardin of Burgin; three grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one son, E. Thomas Royalty; two sisters, Sadie Risinger and Marzetta Murphy, and three brothers, G. W., Alfred and Bobby Gene Royalty.

Services were held Monday, Oct. 2 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Ralph Neal officiating. Burial with military rites was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gary Royalty, Bobby Gene Royalty Jr., Darryl Royalty, Terrell Royalty, Marty Murphy and Chris Royalty.

Honorary pallbearers were George Royalty Jr., Richard Logan and members of Scottie Anderson’s Sunday School Class.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shawnee Run Baptist Church, 1490 Shakertown Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
