FRANCES HILL
Frances Hill, 77, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born July 17, 1928 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruby Williams Devine and the wife of Tommie Hill.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Salt River Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: two sons, Jack (Patty) Hill of Harrodsburg and Gary (Brenda) Hill of McKinney; two daughters, Carol (Bill) Beavers and Polly (David) Warner, both of Harrodsburg; one sister, Edna Bradley of Harrodsburg; one brother, William Devine of Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Branson Taylor Warner-Cummins, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Timothy Gray and Joe Vest officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were William Anderson, Darrell and Scott Beavers, Jimmy Hill, Jack Hill and Scott Hulette. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Durr, Jesse Johnson, Floyd Lyons, Mark, Stevie and Eugene Bugg, Bruce Purdom, Corey Wardrip, Timmy Devine, Frank Kemplin and Donnie Followell.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Fund, or Gideons International.

WILLIAM MAYES

William Lear Mayes, 69, formerly of Mackville, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center of natural causes.

He was a member of Capital City Christian Church, Bluegrass Christian Camp Board, Forwarding Agent for Central African Mission for Steve and Linda Whitmer in Zimbabwe, and a retired Director of Compliance, Department of Revenue.

He was the son of the late James B. and Margaret E. Arnold Mayes.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Yancey Mayes; one daughter, Elizabeth Hack of Frankfort; a sister, Una Lee Graham of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. John Sutphin officiating.

Burial was at 1:30 p.m. in Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Honorary pallbearers were S.T. Smither, Don True, Mel Jenkins, John Vickers, Jeff Sachs, Scott Akers, Sean Maguire and Douglas Parke.

Active pallbearers were Ron Hack, Jacob Hack, Jared Hack, Barry Hack, Marty Antle and Bob Bryant.

Expressions may be contributions to the Capital City Christian Church Building Fund.

FLOSSIE ROYALTY
Flossie Allen Brummett Royalty, 91, died Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 2, 1914 in Casey County, she was the daughter of the late Amos and Mary Jane Cockran Allen and the widow of Elwood Royalty.

She was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, and she was a retired Cricketeer employee.

Survivors include: three daughters, Opal (Carl) Clark of Harrodsburg, Gussi (Fred) Smith of Lexington and Pat Brock of Nicholasville; one brother, William Allen of Harrodsburg; three step-children, Clifford (Bonnie) Royalty of Lawrenceburg, Brenda (Don) Stiglich of Harrodsburg and Donald Wayne (Brenda Joyce) Royalty of Harrodsburg; eleven grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren, twenty-four great-great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren, step-great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Norma Lee Brummett; one infant son, William Albert Brummett Jr.; three sisters, Bessie Crabtree, Frances Carrier and Gracie Cobb; two brothers, Ernest Allen and Enoch Allen, and one granddaughter, Pamela Beasley Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 2 at 1 p.m. at the Hopewell Baptist Church. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Tim Abner, Tony Beasley and John Kartner and step-grandsons Kevin Royalty, Richard Royalty and Dennis Stiglich.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and after 7 a.m. Thursday at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

ROY SETTLES
Roy Kenneth Settles, 78, of Springfield, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006 at the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born July 19, 1927 in Washington County, he was the son of the late Roy Allen and Mayme Darland Settles.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sue Harmon of Springfield and Doria Baker of Harrodsburg; three sons, Curtis Settles of Springfield, Kenneth Ray Settles of Minneapolis, MN, and Danny Settles of Louisville; three sisters, Delilah Belcher of Sarasota, FL, Nancy Gabhart of Mackville and Janice Stine of Springfield; seven brothers, J.D. Settles of Willisburg, Larry Settles of Calvary, and Samuel, Murriel, Everett, Elbert and Joe Settles, all of Springfield; 16 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

One sister, Laverne Gordon, followed him in death by four days.

He was preceded in death by one son, Donnie Watson Settles; one daughter, Linda Lou Powell, and one sister, Mildred Settles.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 22 at the Carey and Son Funeral Home in Springfield with the Rev. John McDaniel, pastor of the Temple Baptist Church, and Bro. Frank Preston, minister of the Mackville Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in Peter Cemetery in Mackville.

Pallbearers were Doug Gabhart, Randy Gabhart, Jimmy Stine, James Allen Stine, Carroll Settles and Benjamin Settles.

DANNA SHARP
Danna Carole Cornelius Sharp, 55, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006.

Born Jan. 3, 1951 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of Daniel G. and Desdia Myrtle Parsons Cornelius of Harrodsburg and the widow of Ronal Sharp.

She was a 1969 graduate of Harrodsburg High School. She was a homemaker, a member of the Stanford Baptist Church, and a past member of the Harrodsburg order of the Eastern Star #309. She was chairman of the Lincoln County Fair Horse Show, a member of the Kentucky Walking Horse Association and its Ladies Auxiliary, and she owned and exhibited World Grand Champion and International Grand Champion horses.

Survivors include: one daughter, Amy E. Davis of Liberty; two step-daughters, Judy Burton and Mary Beth Sharp, both of Stanford; one step-son, Ronnie (Paula) Sharp of Stanford; two sisters, Joyce (Cleo) Sanders of Harrodsburg and Janice (Richard) Johnson of Louisville; two aunts, Gertrude Sheegog and Lyda Todd, both of Harrodsburg; four step-grandchildren, and several neices and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one nephew, Daniel Marshall Sanders.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 24 at the Fox Funeral Home in Stanford with Bro. Dale Denton officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Robbins, Landon Williams, Cleo Sanders, Richard Johnson, and Dan and Jimmy Withrow. Honorary pallbearers were Lee Burton and Sammy Martin.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Central Kentucky Riding for Hope.

JAMES WILSON

James “Jimmy” Spider Wilson, age 48 of Lawrenceburg, died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Frankfort Regional Medical Center.

Born April 26, 1957 in Louisville, he was the son of Judith Aileen Thurman Hayes of Lawrenceburg and the late Forrest Wilson, Sr. He was the husband of the late Charlotte Jean Stevens Wilson

He was a sight manager for Industrial Security Services Inc. with Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, and a former deputy jailer with the Franklin County Regional Jail. He was a bass guitarist and lead singer with Back Roads Band, a member of the Kentucky Motorcycle Association and the Bikers Association, and the Lawrenceburg Church of God.

Additional survivors incude: two sons, Jason Lee (Lottie May) Wilson, Harrodsburg, and Brandon James Isaac Wilson, Lawrenceburg; three daughters, Kristie Lynn Wilson, Frankfort, Ashley Rose Wilson (David Michael) Carter, Lawrenceburg, Andrea Leann (Franklin) Edwards, Waddy; seven grandchildren, Jassa Leigh Wilson and Emily Kate Wilson, both of Harrodsburg, Dallas Luken Edwards and Mason Shane Edwards, both of Waddy, Taylor Lynn Marie Wilson, James Thomas Tyler Wilson and Jocelyn Rose Douglas, all of Lawrenceburg; one brother, Forrest Isaac (Kay) Wilson, Lawrenceburg; two sisters, Lisa (Jerry) Landers, Lawrenceburg, Judy (Charlie) Crouch, Taylorsville; and his fiancée, Joyce Lynn Goodlett, Lawrenceburg.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 25, at the Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg, with Pastor Donald Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 – 9 p.m., Friday and after a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

MELBA WILSON
Melba Wilson, 82, of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at the Harrodsburg Health Care Center.

Born Aug. 6, 1923 in Breckenridge County, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Leah Gray Pullen and the widow of Carlos Wilson Sr.

She was a retired food service manager for the Jefferson County School District and a member of the Shively Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, C. W. (Linda) Wilson, Jr. of Harrodsburg and Lawrence (Cindy) Wilson of Lexington; one sister, Roberta (Delbert) Howard of Madrid; two brothers, Donald (Martha) Pullen of Florida and Terry (Bobbi) Pullen of Hawsville; eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, William Pullen.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 1 at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with her sons C. W. Wilson Jr. and Lawrence E. Wilson officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Lynn Gammon, Benjamin Joel Wilson, Mark Edward Wilson, Stephen George Wilson, John Lawrence Wilson, Christopher Joseph Wilson and James Andrew Wilson.

Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Lynn Gammon, Joshua Lee Gammon and Gavin Joel Wilson.

ZELLA WISE

Zella Mae Baston Wise, 93, widow of William W. Wise died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Central Baptist Hospital.

A native of Scott County, she was the daughter of the late George Owen & Alice Beard Baston.

She was a member of the Great Crossings Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia W. Penn, FL; two granddaughters, Pam Wise Stewart, Burgin, and Georgia Penn Noble, FL; two grandsons, Gary and David Teetor, both of Cincinnati; one brother, Roy T. (Irah) Baston, Lexington; two sisters-in-law, Jean and Dorothy Baston, OH; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Edna Earl Teetor, and a son, William Marion Wise preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Friday, February 24, at Johnson's Funeral Home, Georgetown by Dr. Ray Roach. Burial will be in the Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 am, Fri. at the funeral home.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, V.F.W. and D.A.V. Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Preston Burgin at Spring Hill Cemetery Feb. 27, 2006.

Those attending were Curtis and Earl Sherrow, Tom Denny, Joe Harlow, Floyd Shirley, Lucian Landers and Howard H. Howells Sr.

Bugler was Zenah Teater III.

Navy representatives from Lexington were Petty Officers First Class William Dye and Robert Phillips.

MILITARY RITES

Those attending were Curtis and Earl Sherrow, Tom Denny, Joe Harlow, Floyd Shirley, Lucian Landers, Howard H. Howells Sr. and Tom Rappleye.

Bugler was Zenah Teater III.

Army representatives from Fort Knox were Staff Sergeants William Richardson and Tracy L. Morgan.

WILLIAM ATWELL
William Lloyd Atwell, 43, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington.

Born Aug. 6, 1962 in Lexington, he was the son of the late William “Bill” and Marie Napier Atwell.

He was a member of the Pioneer Baptist Church.

Survivors include: four brothers, Jack C. Atwell of Harrodsburg, Larry Wayne Atwell, Donald Ray Atwell and Ricky Lee Atwell, all of Lexington; two nephews, and several aunts and uncles.

Graveside services were held Friday, March 3 at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Michael West officiating.

RUTH CANNON
Ruth E. Cannon, 81, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Tuesday, March 1, 2006 at the Hamburg Health Care in Lexington.

Born Aug. 11, 1924 in Boyle County, she was the daughter of the late Leonard R. and Lena Warren Rogers and the widow of Charles Franklin Cannon Sr.

She was a retired inspector for Corning Glass, Inc. and a member of Southside Christian Church. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, collecting dolls and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: one son, Charles Franklin (Veneida) Cannon Jr. of Lexington; one daughter, Connie (Jewell) Bartlett of Nicholasville; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Leonard Rogers Jr., Clarence, Marion, Lunce and Ralph Rogers, and one sister, Florence O’Nan.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 4 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Cole officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim O’Nan, Randall Rogers, Johnnie Rogers, Marion Rogers Jr., William Rogers, Ralph Rogers and Leonard Rogers.

VERA CONNER
Vera Conner, 91, of Harrodsburg, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at The James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 11, 1914 in Woodford County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Eli and Maudie Rae Harley Kinder and the widow of Mike Conner.

She was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of the Wilmore Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Ellen Rosel of Mercer County; one brother, Walter Kinder of Versailles; four sisters, Jewel Satterly of Louisville, Nellie Turner of Harrodsburg, Elizabeth Tatum of Missouri and Ann Doyle of Florida; three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Kinder and Katherine Smith, and seven brothers, Roy, Thomas, Ike, Hollie, James, Dutch and J. S. Kinder.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 7 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Vince Kinder, Brent Satterly, Walter Howard Kinder, Troy Thompson, Anthony Allois Rosel Jr. and Anthony Allois Rosel III.

JAY CORNELIUS
Jay Cornelius, 68, of Water Works Road, died Saturday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born Dec. 29, 1937, in Garrard County, he was a son of the late Burnam and Cora Gilliam Cornelius.

He was a member of Paint Lick Church of God and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie R. Cornelius; three sons, Tommy Cornelius, Lancaster, Jim Cornelius, Harrodsburg and Bruce Cornelius, Newtown, OH; two daughters, Judy Simpson and Natashea Cornelius, both of Lancaster; five brothers, Cecil Cornelius, Joe Cornelius and Donald Cornelius, all of Stanford, Bobby Cornelius, Lancaster, and Jack Cornelius, Albuquerque, NM; four sisters, Madrew Davis and Dovie McQuerry, both of Lancaster, Marie Keiser, Powell, TN, and Frances Centers, Centerville, IN; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ramsey Funeral Home, Lancaster, by Rev. Danny King and Rev. Dan Carr. Burial will be in the Pentecostal Fellowship Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Prewitt and Ashley, Adam, Jeremy, Tobby and Eric Cornelius.

JEAN HOPEWELL
Jean Shivers Hopewell, 77, of Talladega, AL, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 at the Talladega Health Care Center.

A native of Randolph County, AL, she had lived in Talladega for the past 55 years, and she was the widow of Joseph C. Hopewell.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Talladega where she attended the Iva Nell Ricker Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Lawrence Missionary Social Group, the NFY Group, a member of NARFE, a Docent at Heritage Hall Museum, and a volunteer at Citizens Hospital.

Survivors include: two daughters, Nancy H. Campbell of Talladega, AL, and Linda H. Peters of Richardson, TX; two sons, William C. Hopewell of Oneonta, AL, and David P. Hopewell of Harrodsburg, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 24 at the First Baptist Church in Talladega with Dr. George Ricker officiating. Burial was in Pine Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Daniel Hopewell, Stephen Campbell, Clay Campbell, Andrew Hopewell, Julian Newman and Jerry Cooper.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the Gladys Hopewell Scholarship Fund at the church.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega was in charge of arrangements.
