KENNETH LITTRELL

Kenneth Littrell, 88, husband of 62 years to Launa Varney Littrell, died May 1, 2006 at his home.

He was the only child of Menifee and Inez Littrell.

Born in Powell County, he grew up in Winchester. He graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College and Mayo Clinic School of Physical Therapy. He also received a Masters of Agriculture at U.K. after serving in the Navy in WWII. He retired from Southern States Cooperative as a Regional Manager after 32 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

After retirement he enjoyed time with his grandchildren and traveling.

Additional survivors include: one son, Ken (Peggy) Littrell, Lexington; two daughters, Margaret Ann (Mike) Barnard, Harrodsburg, and Susan (Glenn) Uminger, Walton; 11 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his eight grandsons.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at Milwards – Broadway in Lexington.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 East High Street, Lexington

Contributions can be made to Calvary Baptist Church Garden Fund.

ALBERT MOORE
Albert Bland Moore, 85, of Nicholasville, died Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington.

Born July 15, 1920 in Mackville, he was the son of the late Robert and Gertie Roberts Moore and the husband of Bessie Louise Carter Moore.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 192nd Tank Battalion, received two bronze stars, was a prisoner of war and was in the Bataan Death March. He was a member of the V.F.W., the D.A.V., and an active member of Indian Hills Christian Church in Danville for twenty-five years. He was a retired sales representative and sales manager of the Kentucky Electric Steel Company and Reliance Steel, and he enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two sons, Gregory B. Moore of Terre Haute, IN and Bradley K. (Donna) Moore of Richmond, VA; one daughter, Sheryl L. (J. D.) Crowe of Nicholasville; one sister, Vera Williams of Franklin, TN; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Marshall, Ancil, C. W., Cecil and Bob Moore Jr., and one sister, Mary Lou Powell.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, at Indian Hills Christian Church with Bro. Odis Clark and Lance Ladd officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery with military rites.

Pallbearers were Cecil Howard Vandiver, Wayne Doolin, Jerry Wade, David Gibson, Amos Sharpe and Jim Crouch.

ROBERT PANKEY
Robert “Bob” Cecil Pankey, 70, of Woodburn, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at his home.

A native of Mercer County, he was the son of the late Maurice and Katherine Elliott Pankey and the husband of Betty Jean Branham Pankey.

He was a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church, and he was retired from the State Occupational Safety and Health Agency. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He was a Kentucky Colonel, an Admiral of the Water Ways and had recently received the Who’s Who award from the state of Kentucky.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Kathleen Pankey Diamond of Woodburn; one brother, Alfred Kyle Pankey of Harrodsburg; one grandson, Joshua Dale Diamond, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bobby Jean Pankey.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 1 at the Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home in Columbia with Dr. Tim Harris officiating. Burial was in Lebanon National Cemetery with military rites.

JO PHILLIPS
Jo Frances Poynter Phillips, 78, of Danville, died Sunday, April 30, 2006 at her home.

Born Sept. 17, 1927 in Garrard County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Walter and Alice Anderson Poynter and the wife of John H. Phillips.

She was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church in Danville and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion Boyle Post #46.

In addition to her husband, survivors include: one son, Michael H. Phillips of Lebanon; one daughter, Margaret Anderson of Danville; two granddaughters, Kim Ellis and Kelly White, both of Harrodsburg; two grandsons, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, at the Stith Funeral Home in Danville with Bro. Joe Smith officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

EVA ROYALTY
Eva L. Royalty, 88, of North Greenville Street, died Friday, April 28, 2006 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born Sept. 28, 1917 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Flossie Hill Freeman and the widow of William Hugh Royalty.

She was a retired glass inspector for Corning Glass. She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class and the Light and Lively Group. She was a member of Widow to Widow, and she enjoyed traveling and baking.

Survivors include: two daughters, Barbara Crawley of Mercer County and Janet (Ed) Spencer of Lawrenceburg; five grandchildren, David Crawley, Sharon (Glenn) Stewart, Sandi (Jim) McMurtrie, Scott (Linda) Crawley and Emily Parkey; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, two nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Rosalee Parkey.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 2 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor, Eddie Russell and Rick Snyder officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jim McMurtrie, Glenn Stewart, David, Scott and John Crawley, Nicholas Risden and Brandon Sallee.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul and Bessie Votaw, Chester and Ludema Scott, Carroll Sanford, Jean Dearinger, Mary Clark, Addie Darland and Norma Baumstark.

MIKE ROYALTY
Mike Royalty, 62, of Burgin, died Friday, April 28, 2006 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born Nov. 30, 1943 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of James Huntley Royalty of Harrodsburg and the late Margaret Isham Royalty and the husband of Cindy Inscore Royalty.

He was the owner of Royalty Farm, vice-president of the Kentucky Rural Water Association, manager of the Lake Village Water Association Inc., chairman of the Mercer Sanitation Association, and manager of the South Anderson Water District. He was a founding member of the Fort Harrod Goat Association where he served as treasurer since its inception. He was treasurer of the Fort Harrod Diversification Committee and former treasurer of the Kentucky Goat Producers Association. He was a member, past president and past district governor of the Harrodsburg Lions Club, and a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church. He was a 1963 graduate of the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science and the former co-owner of Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home. He was also the former owner of Royalty’s Fishing Camp.

In addition to his wife and father, survivors include: two daughters, Tammy (Keith) Pecha of North Carolina and Kathy Royalty (John Cooley) of Harrodsburg; one brother, Larry (Beverly) Royalty of Harrodsburg; three grandchildren, Staci Miller, Mikayla Duncan and Logan Russell; one niece, three nephews, two uncles, one aunt and several cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 1 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dann Masden, John David Trisler and Phil Williams officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Freeman, Frank Kemplin, Danny Noel, Bobby Watts, Ray Graves and Patrick Shewmaker.

Honorary pallbearers were John Markel, Denver Burton, employees of the Lake Village Water Association and of the South Anderson Water District.

MIKE ROYALTY
Mike Royalty, 62 of Shakertown Road, manager of the Lake Village Water Association, lost his battle with cancer Friday.

Royalty died at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

In addition to his work with Lake Village, he was an owner of Royalty Farm, vice president of the Kentucky Rural Water Association, chairman of the Mercer Sanitation Association, and manager of the South Anderson Water District.

“Mike has dedicated 20 years plus to getting water to Mercer County residents, helping South Anderson and promoting water for all of Kentucky,” said Don Hassell, staff advisor with the Bluegrass Area Development District.

“Mike was a master of facilitating actions to be taken to the plan he had established. He was a quiet, but strong leader and effective working together with people,” echoed Jim Carpenter, vice chairman of the Mercer County Sanitation District.

Stephen Terhune, a board member with the Forty Harrods Goat Association, described Royalty as “the daddy figure and glue that helped keep our work moving one way in line with the future. He was always available if needed.”

Mercer County Judge-Executive John Trisler, a life-long friend of Royalty’s, spoke at Royalty’s funeral Monday and noted that his friend made good choices in life. He reminisced about childhood activities shared with Royalty and noted the diversity in Royalty’s careers – “Do you know anyone (else) who can have a career starting with a funeral home, next a boat dock on Herrington, on to the Lake Village Water Association and south Anderson Water District, and then Wastewater, while balancing a beef cattle operation later converted to a boar goat farm?”

Trisler said Royalty was a good listener, was well respected and a Mercer County leader.

Royalty is survived by his wife, Cindy Inscore Royalty; his father, James Huntley Royalty of Harrodsburg; two daughters, Tammy (Keith) Pecha of North Carolina and Kathy Royalty (John Cooley) of Harrodsburg; a brother, Larry (Beverly) Royalty of Harrodsburg and other relatives.

GLENN BELCHER

Glenn Belcher, 70, of Chandler Street, Lebanon, died Friday, May 5, 2006 at his home.

Born in Boyle County, he was the son of the late Walter and Effie Strevels Belcher.

Survivors include: one son, Tony Belcher, Lebanon; two daughters, Glenda Rawlings, Harrodsburg and Jane Arredondo, Louisville; one brother, Edward Belcher, Hardinsburg; two sisters, Lena Ely, Danville, and Ella Mae Presley, Parksville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, at Campbell DeWitt Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Boyle County.

Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Sunday.

ONITA BRISCOE
Onita Frances Briscoe, 76, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Dover Manor Nursing Home in Georgetown.

Born Sept. 11, 1929 in Shelby County, she was the daughter of the late James Lee and Pearl Ritchey Briscoe.

She was a retired employee with Webster Electric in Frankfort, and she was a member of the Lawrenceburg First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: 10 nieces and nephews, Diana Gregory of Georgetown, Pat Paxton of Napa, CA, James Lee Briscoe of Salvisa, Terry Wayne Briscoe and Gary Allen Briscoe, both of Lawrenceburg, Steven Edward Briscoe and Dorothy K. Young, both of Lexington, and Earl Thomas Briscoe, Kathy Gayle Briscoe and Alfreda Whitehouse, all of Harrodsburg.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Orville Briscoe and Alfred Earl Briscoe.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at the Ritchie and Peach Funeral Home in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Jeff Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Shelby County.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Gregory, Kelly, Wayne and James Briscoe, and Brian Keith and Jonathan Whitehouse.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601.

JESSE COLE
Jesse Allen Cole, 89, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 at the Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore.

Born in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Jesse Ernest and Grace Morris Cole and the widower of Mary Evelyn Shy Cole.

He attended Salvisa High School and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a former employee of B&D Remodeling and was a retired realtor with Carroll G. Cole Realty. He had been a member of Gardenside Baptist Church since 1960.

Survivors include: one son, David Allen (Vickie) Cole of Lexington; four brothers, Kenneth (Margaret) Cole of Harrodsburg, Jasper Cole of Newark, DE, and Franklin Cole and Rollin (Jeanette) Cole, both of Lawrenceburg; five sisters, Pearl (Thomas) Leathers of Campbellsville, Pauline (James) Freeman of Lawrenceburg, Maxine (R. C.) Hahn and Henrietta (Edmond) Broughton, both of Bardstown, and Imogene (Alvin) Drury of Lexington; two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Connie Joe Cole and C. T. Cole, and one sister, Rose Stratton.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 8 at the W.R. Milward Mortuary-Southland with the Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. Burial was in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens in Jessamine County.

Pallbearers were David Hoagland, Edmond Broughton, Alvin Drury, Mike Miller, John Cole and Doug Gregory.

JAMES DULIN

James W. Dulin, 74, of Lexington, husband of Louise Dulin, died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at his residence.

He was the son of Frances Chipley Dulin and the late Howard Dulin.

He was a retired captain with the Lexington Police Department with 28 years of service. He also served with the United States Air Force and was a member of the F.O.P.

Besides his wife and mother, survivors include: two sons, James Mason Dulin, and Charles Wayne Stivers, both of Lexington; four daughters, Patricia Christian, Pamela Sue Shook, and Sandra Stacy, all of Lexington, and Linda Pennington, Harrodsburg; grandchildren, Michelle Dulin, Christie Dulin, Chris Darmadji, Mellissa Darmadji, Derrick Stivers, Cara Ann Parsons, Scottie Elliott, Robin Elliott, Mike Christian, Eddie Stacy, Lisa Kyle, Bobby Plunket, Ronnie Pennington, Stanley Pennington, Tina Cole, Angela Pennington and David Pennington.

Graveside services will be Tuesday, May 9, 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

No visitation is planned.

HAZEL GASH
Hazel McKee Gash, 94, of Lawrenceburg, died Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Heritage Hall Care Center in Lawrenceburg.

Born July 22, 1911 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Ezra and Hallie Morris McKee and the widow of Hollie Davis “Pete” Gash.

She was a 1928 graduate of Kavanaugh High School and attended Western Kentucky University. She was a member and pianist of Goshen Baptist Church.

She retired from the Mercer County school system after 41 years of teaching and taught one year in Anderson County. She was a member of the Fox Creek Homemakers and the Retired Teachers Association, and she was a Kentucky Colonel.

Survivors include: one daughter, Betty Moore of Lawrenceburg; two sons, Roy Davis (Yvonne) Gash of San Diego, CA, and Ezra Willis (Becky) Gash of Danville; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren, and caregiver and best friend Jo Ann McKee Adams of Lawrenceburg.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Morris McKee and Dr. Willis McKee, and one sister, Jayne Radcliffe.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 6 at Gash Memorial Chapel in Lawrenceburg with Bro. Fred Knickerbocker officiating. Burial was in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dr. Dana Dahlen, David Gash, Miller McKee, Dr. Will McKee, McKee Radcliffe and William F. Gash.

WALTER GORHAM

Walter Clifton Gorham, 79, died April 12, 2006 in Sun City, CA.

Born in Harrodsburg, on October 3, 1926, he was a Kentucky Colonel, an ASE Master Auto Technician, and a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

He taught photography and automotive courses at Kentucky Technical College. He was a photographer for the Special Olympics and Midsummer Night's Run, and trustee of Lexington Camera Club.

He is survived by his wife Ann, four children: Bonnie, Brad, Anita and Faron; three sisters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service will be held on Monday, May 15, at 12 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 30220 Carmel Road, Sun City, CA 92586. Inurnment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery.

ROBERT GRITTON
Robert A. “Rags” Gritton, 82, of Harvest Lane, died Sunday, May 7, 2006 at the Saint Joseph Hospice Center in Lexington.

Born Feb. 28, 1924 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Davis Hickman and Sarah Nelson Gritton and was the husband of Mary Dott Sidwell Gritton.

He was a graduate of Salvisa High School. He attended Georgetown College, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, and Eastern Kentucky University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, and was in educational sales for 43 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: one daughter, Cindy Ann (Louis Edward II) Reinhart of Louisville, and one brother, Davis Marshall Gritton of Salvisa.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 10 at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Jon Hall officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Terry Kovacs, Tom Duncan, John D. Clayton, Bill Hornback, Jeff Pence, Bill Randolph, Chuck Dedman and Bill Jett.

Honorary pallbearers were Bobby Grider, Bobby Thompson, Ernest Estridge, James Sexton, Jack Woods, Bill Lester, Phillip Young, E. B. Miller Jr., Bob Davis and Jonell Ramsey.
