JUANITA PERRY

Juanita Nield Perry, 71, of Elizabethtown, a resident of the Springfield Nursing and Rehab Center, died Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at the Norton Spring View Hospital in Lebanon.

Born November 3, 1929 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late James and Ethel Ross Nield.

She was retired from civil service at Fort Knox as an accounting clerk after 30 years.

Survivors include: one son, Jimmy Nield Lambert, Danville; five daughters, Susan Brey, Elizabethtown, Jennie Perry and Ramona Perry, both of Lancaster, Cindy Perry of Rineyville and Etta Manns of Tacoma, WA; one sister, Margaret Nield, Perryville; one brother, Norman Nield, Perryville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, January 26, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Bro. Robert E. Jones officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Etta Manns, Jimmy Lambert, Michael Bray, Derek Travis, Norman Nield, Brett Faulkner and David Curfiss.

MILDRED McCALL

Mildred "Millie" B. McCall, 72, of Sycamore and formerly of DeKalb, IL, died Friday, January 26, 2001 at the Bethany Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Born February 18, 1928 in Battle, she was the daughter of Charlie and Stella Casey Isham. She was the widow of Arthur McCall, Jr.

She had been employed at the DeKalb Public Hospital and the DeKalb County Nursing Home. She was a member of the Foursquare Church of DeKalb and enjoyed taking photographs of her family and care of her pet parakeets.

Survivors include; two sons, Arthur (Judy) McCall of Corpus Christi, TX, Robert C. (Paula) McCall, Daytona Beach, FL; one daughter, Sue (Harold) Olson, Sycamore, OH; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Isham and a brother, LeRoy Isham.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating. Burial was in Fairview Park cemetery in DeKalb.

SIDNEY PEERCY

Mrs. Sidney Jane Edwards Peercy, 78, formerly of Walnut Street, Salvisa, died Thursday, January 25, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born April 6, 1922 in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late John David and Lela Ellen Simpson Criswell. She was the widow of Laurl Francis Edwards.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Hebron Baptist Church.

Survivors include: three sons, Francis Edwards, Jack Edwards and Johnnie Edwards, all of Salvisa; two daughter, Ruth Douglas and Carletta Daniels, both of Salvisa; two sisters, Montie Upchurch and Lola Abbott, both of Monticello. 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Goldman Criswell and Jason Criswell, and two sisters, Lizzie Simpson and Lona Crabtree.

Funeral services were held Sunday, January 28, 2001 at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. George Dye, Bro. J. H. Burns, and Bro. Dallas Daniels officiating. Burial was in the Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ray Daniels, Travis Daniels, Scott Edwards, Lee Chowning, Juhon Goodman and Danny Richardson.

GEORGIA HAYES

Georgia Smith Hayes, 77, 534 West Office Street, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 22, 1923 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late Henry Clay and Grace Elizabeth Johnson Smith.

She was a graduate of West Side High School and attended Wilberforce College in Ohio.

She was a housewife and an employee of Social Services in Harrodsburg, a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Society and was the church’s pianist for a number of years.

Survivors include: four sons, William (Pearl) Kendrick and James Hayes, both of Las Vegas, NV; Vincent (Diane) Hayes, Jr., Sand Diego, CA, Albert Louise Hayes, Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Mrs. Leon (Kathryn) VanDyke, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. William (Lou Ella) Goodman, Lexington; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, Ronald, Donald and Byron Thomas Hayes, two daughters, Joyce and Doris Hayes, and a sister, Bertie Clay Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil Hill officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be James Lyons, Scott Jones, Gary Mayes, John Smith, Jesse Thomas, Andy Harris and Chris Short. Honorary bearers will be Harrodsburg Social Service Workers, Lee Ann West, Geneva Wash, Harold Logue, Sam Irving, Debbie Sallee, Beverly McDonald, Barbara Yates, Brenda Reed, Susan Franklin, Marquita Carmickle, Frances Sims, and Judy Harmon.

Parks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NANCY ALVES

Nancy Lou Alves, 84, of Henderson, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Monday, January 29, 2001 at Methodist Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Lee James Coleman, Sr., and Ethel Ensminger Coleman.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a graduate of the University of Kentucky and was a longtime member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Survivors include: her husband, Richard Alves, Henderson; one brother, Lee James Coleman, Jr., of Lexington.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 31, at the Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home in Henderson, with Rev. Gordon Morrison officiating. Burial was in Fernwood Cemetery.

CONNIE ELLIS

Connie L. Ellis, 68, of 342 N. Main Street, died Monday, January 29, 2001 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born December 21, 1932 in Kirkwood, he was the son of the late Russell and Reva Cammack Ellis.

He was owner and operator of Harrodsburg Motors and was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Kirkwood Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucianna Ellis, Harrodsburg; two sons, Darrell (Lori) Ellis, Harrodsburg, Jimmy Ellis, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Ann Ellis, Harrodsburg; one sister, Joyce (Bill) Elliott, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren, Justin and Jessica Ellis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Coy Ellis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 31, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Bro. James Harley and Terry Cornish officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charlie Cammack, Johnny Ellis, Jim McGlone, Paul Blacketer, Joe Stevens, Darren VanDiver, Don Billy Yates and Bobby Cammack. Honorary bearers were Paul Jones, Brennan Royalty, Jimmy Holiday, Glenn Cocanougher, Bud VanArsdall, Frank Trisler, Junior Isham, Gene Lawson, Earl Franklin Ransdell, Kenneth Long, Connie Isham, David Taylor, Bill Stevens, Linwood Chilton, Ken Cooper and Clinton Woodard.

Memorials are suggested to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center or one’s favorite charity.

WILLIAM SALLEE

William E. Sallee, 87, of Providence Care Center, formerly of Sandusky, OH, died Tuesday, January 30, 2001.

Born in Harrodsburg, December 10, 1913, he was the son of the late George Alfred and Cynthia White Sallee. He was the widower of Martha W. White Sallee.

He was a graduate of Kentucky State College, with a BA in history and completed his post-graduate studies at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL.

He was retired from Vulcan Materials and was a member of St. Stephen AME Church.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wilma Sallee Stacy, Sandusky, OH; one sister, Earlene Sallee, Lexington, OH; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna S. Green.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3, at the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 East Perkins Ave., Sandusky, OH with Rev. Thomas Darden officiating. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Stephens AME Building Fund, 312 Neil St., Sandusky, OH, or one's favorite charity.

NANNIE COVERT

Nannie Beatrice Covert, 90, of 750 McBrayer Drive, died Friday, February 2, 2001 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born March 4, 1910 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Norton Black. She was the widow of Marshall Cook Sanders, Henry Thompson McCrosky and Will Scott Covert.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, WMU, Homemakers Club and had worked as a hostess for the church.

Survivors include: two sons, Nelson Cleo Sanders, Harrodsburg, Don McCrosky, Lebanon; three daughters, Kathryn Sanders Peavler and Jean Sanders Wiley, both of Lexington, Jo Anne Winston, Versailles; two sisters, Lucille Black Pinkston, Springfield, Dottie Black Smith, Harrodsburg; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Byford Black and Gilbert Black, two sisters, Doris Gammon and Merlin Million, one grandson, Dan Marshall Sanders.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 5, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Bro. Terry Morrison officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John L. Peavler, Brent Wiley, Mark Winston, Richard Winston, Thomas McCrosky and Matt McCrosky.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Foundation or the Foreign Mission Fund.

WINNIE BOYER

Winnie Frances Boyer, 81, of 5800 Coach Gate, Louisville, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born June 4, 1919 in Breckinridge County, she was the daughter of the late Ovie and Clemmie Smiley Robinson. She was the widow of Ben W. Boyer.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one son, Jim Moseley, Harrodsburg; one step son, Dale Boyer, Houston, TX; three sisters, Mildred Hemp, Louisville, Mona Breland, Indianapolis, IN, and Ruth Jolly, Hardinsburg; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday February 9, at the L. D. Pearson & Son Funeral Home, Breckinridge Lane, Louisville, with Rev. Phil Williams and Dr. Greeb officiating. Burial will be in the Rest Haven cemetery in Louisville.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church Renovation Fund.

Visitation will be Wednesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ransdell Funeral Chapel and Thursday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at L. D. Pearson & Son Funeral Home in Louisville.

LINDA POWELL

Linda Lou Powell, 54, of 110 Hensley Heights, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.

Born September 25, 1946 in Washington County, she was the daughter of Roy Kenneth Settles of Harrodsburg and the late Martina Thomas Settles.

She was a Corning assembly worker and a member of the Mackville Church of Christ. She loved interior decorating and going to flea markets.

Survivors, in addition to her father, include: her husband, Cornell Powell, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Lisa Carol Powell Hawn, Burgin, Deidra Lynn Powell Kettles, Harrodsburg; one son, Justin Cornell Powell, Harrodsburg; three brothers, Curtis Dale Settles and Kenneth Ray Settles, both of Harrodsburg and Danny Lynn Settles, Springfield; two sisters, Doria Lee Baker, Harrodsburg, Sue Mudd, Springfield; four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Watson Settles.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 8, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Lester Tirey, Bro. Floying Thompson and Bro. Larry Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Williams cemetery in Dixville.

Pallbearers will be John Edward Smith, Chad Baker, Benjamin Settles, Shane Turner, Denny Thompson, Everett Settles and Shane Powell. Honorary bearers will be Jolynda Settles, Christina Settles, Amy Powell and Teresa Carey.

Visitation from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and after 7:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral Home.
