MARY BRADSHAW

Mary Wilma Bradshaw, 86, of 442 W. Office Street, died Wednesday, November 1, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Extended Care.

Born June 7, 1914 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Sleet and Cordie Alford Demaree. She was the widow of James Morgan Bradshaw.

She was retired from Cricketeer Manufacturing and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School member.

Survivors include: one son, Forrest Brent Bradshaw, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. Virginia Lentini, Louisville; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, James Ison Bradshaw.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 4, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Dr. Robert DeFoor officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

EVA LESTER

Eva M. Lester, 91, formerly of Cloverport, died Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at Norton’s Audubon Hospital in Louisville.

Born November 9, 1908 in Harned, she was a saleslady for Avon Products and a member of the Cloverport Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one brother, Joseph W. Mingus, Peoria, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Forrest Lester, formerly of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services will be held at the Wallace Funeral Home in Cloverport at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 10, with Rev. Dave Renfroe officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 10, at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Cloverport Baptist Church, Cloverport, KY 40111.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 10, at the funeral home.

WILLIAM CURTSINGER

William Homer Curtsinger, 77, of Junction City, died Wednesday, No-vember 8, 2000 at his residence.

Born April 4, 1923 in Parksville, he was the son of the late Delbert and Myrtle Pendygraft Curtsinger.

He was a retired employee of the Kentucky State Hospital and a veteran of World War II.

He served in the 2759 Engineer Combat Battalion, served in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern Africa and in the Middle East. He was the recipient of three Bronze Service Good Conduct Medals, a Victory Medal, a Meritorious Unit Award and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of VFW Post 3634, Danville.

Survivors include: his wife, Ida Mae Herring Curtsinger, Junction City; two sons, William L. Curtsinger, Nicholasville, and John D. Curtsinger, Salvisa; one sister, Dorothy Caldwell, Parksville; one grandchild and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Curtsinger; and a sister, Bonnie Wilson.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 9, at the W. L. Pruitt Funeral Home, Moreland, with Rev. Terry Holt officiating. Burial was in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ronald Wilson, June Christy, Buck Sears, Floyd Preston, Bobby Henson and Robert Taylor.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Danville Heritage Hospice.

LOEL BARBERICK

Loel Rose Barberick, 93, of 994 Perryville Road, died Saturday, November 11, 2000 at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Born November 12, 1906 in Williamsburg, she was the daughter of the late William and Cynthia Davis Rose. She was the widow of Louis Barberick.

She had worked as a school teacher for Mercer and Whitley counties. She was a member of Shawnee Run Baptist Church, Mercer County Senior citizens and a 1928 graduate of Cumberland College.

She owned and operated a farm on Bailey Pike for a number of years.

Surviving are: a caregiver, Dorothy Sanders, Harrodsburg and several nieces and nephews, including Betty May of Lexington. She was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian Cummins.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 13, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lester Tirey and Rev. John Cato officiating. Burial was in Shawnee Run Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Ethington, Russ Moore, Harvey Duncan, Hugh Smith, Joey Hardin, Paul Hatfield and Clinton Hardin.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.

TRUMAN BARTLESON Sr.

Truman Bartleson, Sr., 74, of 456 West Broadway, died Thursday, November 9, 2000 at his residence.

Born December 1, 1925 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Warner and Dora Agnes Boggs Bartleson. He was the widower of Jennie VanArsdall Smith Bartleson.

He was a retired buffer for the former Hall Mack Company after 20 years of service. He had also been employed by Mercer Motors, Cudahy and IGA of Harrodsburg.

He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, a former member of the Zoning Board, former vice president and coach of the Mercer Little League Baseball, a former member of the Harrodsburg Board of Education and a former member of the Optimist Club.

He served as a member of the Park Board, was a volunteer at the Mercer County Fair and Horse Show for 36 years, a Kentucky Colonel, an Honorary Secretary of State, and a member of the Loyal Benevolent Society #3 East, Burgin.

He was a member of the Housing Board, and was a public servant and community volunteer for 40 years.

Survivors include: three sons, Truman (Doris) Bartleson Jr., Harrodsburg, George E. Bartleson, Los Angeles, CA and Randall (Judy) L. Bartleson, Harrodsburg; two daughters, Rena and Sharon Bartleson, both of Harrodsburg; one brother, C. L. Bartleson, Burgin; two sisters, Frankie Ellen Bowman, Burgin and Mary Agnes Garner, Lexington; one brother-in-law, John W. Smith Jr., Lawrenceburg; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Calvin Bartleson, a brother, James Warner Bartleson, and a sister, Bessie Pope.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 13, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Virgil Hill officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Charles Bartleson, Greg Bowman, James W. Dunn, Cecil Smith, James Thurman, and Leon VanDyke Jr. Honorary bearers were Charles Carr, Alvis Johnson, Kenneth Jones, Scott Jones, Kenneth Kirkland, Jim Moseley, Bill Randolph, Dr. H. M. Snodgrass, David Taylor and Tony Wilder.

Memorials are suggested to the Truman Bartleson Sr., Scholarship Fund, Harrodsburg High School, 441 E. Lexington St., Harrodsburg, KY 40330.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EDWIN SALLEE

Edwin B. Sallee, Sr., 76, of 729 Shannon Avenue, died Monday, November 13, 2000 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born November 20, 1923 in Washington County, he was the son of the late John and Effie Matherly Sallee. He was the widower of Ella Jane Peavler Sallee.

He was a member of the Grapevine Christian Church, a retired miller from Sandusky Brothers Mill and Farmers Elevator. His hobbies included fishing and gardening.

Survivors include: one son, Edwin Sallee, Jr., Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. Elsa Perkins, Harrodsburg; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Orvel and Lilburn Sallee.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 15, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

JOSEPH GAINES

Joseph D. Gaines, 63, of Louisville, died Friday, November 3, 2000 at Norton Hospital.

Born February 13, 1937 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late Willard Bailey and Elizabeth Butler Gaines.

He was a driver for Yellow Cab and a veteran of the US Air Force.

Survivors include: one son, Matt Gaines, Union; one daughter, Lisa Atwood, CA; two sisters, Margaret Trimble and Louise Fenster, both of Louisville; three grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, November 8, at Highland Funeral Chapel, 3331 Taylorsville Road, Louisville, with graveside services at the New Albany National Cemetery.

RUDOLPH GUTHRIE

Rudolph Merlin Guthrie, 75, of 2273 Talmage-Mayo Road, died Tuesday, November 14, 2000 at his residence.

Born June 10, 1925 in Tampa, FL, he was the son of the late Linsey G. and Daisey Belle Lampp Guthrie.

He had worked as a retail salesman for Birdsong Motors, Tampa, FL and was a member of Lake Panasoffkee Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Nan Godby Guthrie, Harrodsburg; two sons, Linsey and Buddy Guthrie, both of Tampa; two daughters, Debbie Youngman, Dade City, FL and Betty Smith, Zephyr Hills, FL; two step daughters, Rhonda Chagan, Lansford, PA and Sherry Lancaster, Orlando, FL; four brothers, Bud Guthrie, Ralph Guthrie, James Guthrie and Kenneth Guthrie, all of Florida.

A private visitation will be held at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

ORA CURRENS

Ora Lee Sanders Currens, 90, formerly of Louisville, died Saturday, November 18, 2000 in Daytona Beach, FL.

A native of Mercer County, she was a former administrator and school teacher in the Mercer County schools.

She was a charter member and director of Christ United Methodist Church Kindergarten and Day Care, past president and life member of United Methodist Women and an alumni of Fairview School and Bethel Academy. She was also a member of the DAR.

Survivors include: one son, L. David Currens, Largo, FL; one daughter, Patricia C. Johnson, Ormond Beach, FL; one brother, Donald C. Sanders, Louisville, five granddaughters and two great granddaughters.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 25, at Highlands Funeral Home in Louisville. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Expressions of sympathy are suggested to Christ United Methodist Church Day Care, Louisville, KY.

There will be no visitation.

ARTIE BROWN

Artie Pearl Smith Brown, 88, of 214 Fort Street, died Friday, November 17, 2000 at Harrodsburg Health Care.

Born June 25, 1912 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Otis Smith and Sue P. Jordan Smith. She was the widow of John G. Brown.

She was a retired domestic worker, a graduate of West Side High School, a member of the First Baptist Church where she served in the Senior choir. She was a member of the Golden Age Club and the Improvement Club, was past president of the Missionary Society after 21 years, Historian and 1st Vice President of the South District Missionary of the Woman's Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Harrod Homemakers.

Survivors include: two foster sons, Larry Bartleson, Danville, and Carl Bartleson, Harrodsburg; one brother, Ansel E. Smith, Cincinnati, OH; a sister-in-law, Price Smith, Harrodsburg; 10 foster grandchildren and three foster great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Charles H. Smith, and a sister, Fannie Lou Smith Bartleson.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, November 21, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. M. L. Trabue, Rev. Herman Bradshaw and Rev. Virgil A. Hill officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Victor Brown, John Smith, Jimmy Boyd, Leon VanDyke Jr., Eddie Chenault, Albert Mitchell and John Lewis. Honorary bearers were trustees of First Baptist Church.

Parks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

DORIS JENKINS

Doris Rose Jenkins, 73, 543 Linden Avenue, died Friday, November 17, 2000 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 14, 1927 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Margie Rose Wilham. She was the widow of Lawrence Jenkins.

She was a former Palm Beach and restaurant employee and a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church. She and her husband helped establish the Mercer Day Care Center for the handicapped, with many other parents.

Survivors include: one son, Tommy Lawrence Jenkins, Harrodsburg; one daughter, Mrs. Rita (William) Lyons, Harrodsburg; one brother, Haldon Wilham, Harrodsburg; one sister, Mrs. Lorraine Robinson, Harrodsburg; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Durr.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Matthew Atha officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Warren Patterson, Mark Spencer, Bobby Wilham, Lee Kyle Bailey, Bill Robinson and Dudley Jenkins. Honorary bearers were Flo Tewmey, Mary Alice Woods, granddaughters and mothers of the former Mercer Day Care Center for the handicapped.
