ARLIE GOWINS

Arlie B. “B” Gowins, 81, of Bryan, OH, formerly of Mercer County, died Thursday, November 15, 2001 at his residence.

Born in Washington County, he was the son of the late Caleb and Maggie Jane Votaw Gowins. He was the widower of Mary Hayden Coker Gowins.

He was a retired welder from Challenge-Cook in Bryan, OH and a member of Mt. Zion Church in Washington County.

Survivors include: two sons, Marvin B. Gowins, Bryan, OH, Monty Joe Gowins, Alburn, IN; two daughters, Brenda C. Zabaroni, Rochester Hill, Michigan, Marilyn Kay Gowins, Defiance, OH; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Allen Gowins, one sister, Rene Cornish; one daughter, Denise Ann Gowins and one son, Ronald Gowins.

Funeral services were held Sunday, November 18, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Donald Litteral officiating. Burial was in the Cornishville Christian Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Denny Coslow, Terry Coslow, Johnny Warner, Donnie Tyler, Tony Gowins, Larry Gowins, Marty Gowins, Todd Zabaroni and Stephen Zabaroni.

DALLAS KING

Dallas Bryce King, infant son of Mark and Judy Roller King, was stillborn, Friday, November 16, 2001.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Kenny and Carolyn Roller of Bradsfordsville; his paternal grandparents, Bob and Pat King, Danville; great grandparents, Ila Chilton and Wilmar Pendleton, Nellie Rakes and Margaret Roller; aunts and uncles, Tim and Kim King, Jennifer and Darrell Lainhait, Kenny Ray and Misty Roller.

Graveside services were held Monday, November 16, at the Wilder Funeral Home in Perryville, by Bro. Robert Judd. Burial was in the Old Liberty Cemetery, Bradfordsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested In Memory of Dallas, c/o Kenny and Carolyn Roller, 1220 Kendron Road, Bradfordsville.

EDNA NIEMEIER

Edna Mae Robinson Niemeier, 76, of Waterfill Avenue, Lawrenceburg, died Sunday, November 18, 2001 at her residence.

Born December 28, 1924 in Anderson County she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Toki Drury Robinson. She was the widow of Pelsor Niemeier.

She was a waitress for the Campbell House Inn in Lexington for 33 years and a former waitress for the Anderson Grill in Lawrenceburg for many years.

She was a member of the Ninevah Christian Church.

Survivors include: two grandsons, Anthony (Lynn) Jeffries, Lawrenceburg, and Keith (Stephanie) Jeffries, Frankfort; two sisters, Ella (Carl) Short, Salvisa, Frankie (James) Simpson, Bloomfield; one brother, Jimmy Robinson, Lawrenceburg; four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Jeffries.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Vernon Huber officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Towles, Rod Sanford, Allen Cromley, Randy Lawson, Dustin Young and Jim Case. Honorary bearers were employees of Campbell House Inn.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele Street, Frankfort, KY 40601.

MARY ROWLAND

Mary Jane Rowland, 83, of 1723 Waterside Drive, Naples, FL, died Sunday, November 18, 2001 in Naples.

A native of Jessamine County, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Jenny Bell Crane Betts.

She was a homemaker and also served as bookkeeper for the family business, Harrod Cleaners, for a number of years.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for several years.

Survivors include: her husband, C. Burt Rowland, Naples, FL; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Carol) Conover, Harrodsburg, Mrs. Richard (Sara Kay) Bielecki, San Antonio, TX; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 23, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with family members officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville.

Visitation will be at the Chapel after 4:00 p.m. Friday.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice.

JODIE TOLL

Jodie Ann Toll, 18, of Indian Trail, Lawrenceburg, died Friday, November 16, 2001 in Lexington.

Born March 2, 1983 in Anderson County, she was the daughter of Benny R. Toll and the late Nettie Lancaster Toll.

She attended Anderson County High School.

Survivors in addition to her father, include: her step mother, Vicky Burton Toll, Lawrenceburg; paternal grandmother, Pauline Toll, Mercer County; one step brother, William Dennis, Nicholasville; two step sisters, Sherry Dennis, Chicago, IL, and Elaina Sewell, Georgetown. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Thomas Toll.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 21, at Gash Memorial Chapel with Bro. Jack Smith officiating. Burial was in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Toll, Allen Ray Toll, Gary Dane Wiley, Mickey Toll, Marvin Smith Jr., Mark Smith and Marvin Smith Sr. Honorary bearers were Robert Toll, Allen Toll, Shannon Hubert, Curtis Berryman, William Thacker, Larry Young, Jo Butler and Freddie Redding.

PATRICIA TURNER

Patricia Ann Turner, 48, of 406 East View Circle, Shelbyville, died Saturday, November 17, 2001 at the Homestead Nursing Center in New Castle.

Born January 24, 1953 in Danville, she was the daughter of Martha Rasnake of Harrodsburg.

She was a stock person for Wal-Mart in Shelbyville and was a member of the Gethsemane Baptist Church in Danville.

Survivors, in addition to her mother, include: her husband, Herbert Turner, Shelbyville; two sons, Herbert Keith Turner II and Matthew Scott Turner, both of Shelbyville; one daughter, Mesha Rogers, Frankfort; one brother, Wyndell Jones, Harrodsburg; two sisters, Cindy Baker and Linda Duncan, both of Harrodsburg; one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her step father, Ralph Munday.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 20, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. Claude Waldridge officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Collins Hill, Lonnie Hill, Samuel “Bo” Rasnake III, Brian Rasnake, Maurice Finn and William Finn.

BILLY WALLS

Billy Walls, 28, of Nicholasville, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001.

A native of Lexington, he was the son of Carolyn and John Allison, Noblesville, IN.

He was a graduate of Bryan Station High School and attended the University of Kentucky. He was a member of Northeast Christian Church.

He was a deputy sheriff for the Jessamine County Sheriff Department, had served as a police officer for the City of Wilmore, Deputy Sheriff for Fayette County Sheriff Department and dispatcher for the UK Police Department

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Priscilla Mitchell Walls, Nicholasville; one daughter, Kaley Alexis Walls, Nicholasville; two brothers, Chris Walls and Phillip Allison, both of Noblesville, IN; one sister, Michelle Allison, Noblesville, IN; maternal grandmother, Alice Parido; Lexington; paternal grandfather, Billy Ray Walls, Sr., Lexington; mother-in-law, Marcy Mitchell, Lexington; brother-in-law, Todd (Elisa) Mitchell, Lexington; sister-in-law, Susie (Bobby) Harned, Lexington; paternal grandmother, Margaret Allison, Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 17, Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Whit Criswell officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.

HOLLIS YOUNG

Hollis Young, 95, of 576 Beaumont Avenue, died Tuesday, November 13, 2001 at the Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born February 2, 1906 in Washington County, he was the son of the late R. J. “Buddy” and Cora Lay Young and was the widower of Edith Robinson.

He was a retired salesman for Central Wholesale and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include: one sister-in-law, Lillie Long, Harrodsburg; one granddaughter, Susan Beth Boren, FL; one great granddaughter, Jennifer Tamara Boren, FL. He was preceded in death by a son, Herman Young; three brothers, Hugh, Edward and William (Bill) Young; one sister, Marjorie McGrath.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 16, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Robert DeFoor and Rick Snyder officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dick Dartt, W. B. Horn, Kenneth Young, Stanley Green, Bill Rogers, Armond Bottom, Paul Devine and Ernest Mobley. Honorary bearers were the Glad Hand Sunday School Class and deacons.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Baptist Church, Main Street, Harrodsburg, KY 40330 or the Mercer County Humane Society.

MILITARY RITES
Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Kenneth King at Spring Hill Cemetery on November 13, 2001.

Those attending were Roy Freeman, Lucian Landers, Marion Mershon, DeWitt Sims, Joe Harlow, Chris Stines, Tom Rappleye, Preston Burgin, Tom Denny and –Howard Howells.

William Gravely served as bugler.

BOB BATTOE

Bob Brandon Battoe, 81, formerly of Hopkinsville, died Friday, November 23, 2001, at the Masonic Home in Shelbyville.

He was a native of Trigg County.

He was a retired iron worker and a member of Local #70. He was a member of Plumb Masonic Lodge #862, Scottish Rite, Kosair Shrine, Mended Hearts Society and a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church for over 50 years.

He was an air force veteran of World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Imogene “Jean” Macham Battoe; two sons, Robert Ellis Battoe, Prospect, Daryl Stevan Battoe, Harrodsburg; one sister, Dorothy Henderson, Hopkinsville; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 26 at the Highlands Funeral Home in Louisville.

Memorials are suggested to Kosair Charities.
