Alejandro Willis Marques Griffin, age 19 days, of 220 Pearson Court, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at his home.

Born November 1, 2002, he was the son of Jessica Jo Ann Louise Griffin and Inocencio Marques Gonzalez of Harrodsburg.

Survivors include: one brother, Jesse Lee Dylan Griffin, Harrodsburg; one sister, Dawn Marcia Rose Griffin, Harrodsburg; paternal grandfather, Alejandro Marques Ponce, Hidalgo, Mexico; paternal grandmother, Pauline Gonzalaz Mata, Hidalgo, Mexico; maternal grandfather, Jesse L. Griffin, Danville; maternal grandmother, Patricia Deihl, Danville; paternal grandparents, Jeffrey and Marcia Ava Caudill, Harrodsburg; maternal great grandparents, Mitchell and Wanda Raines, Lancaster; maternal great grandmother, Florence Stringer, Danville; and Effie Mason, Danville, maternal great-great grandmother.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 22, at Fox Funeral Home in Stanford, with Father Michael Weglicki officiating. Burial was in Buffalo Springs Cemetery, Stanford.

JUANITA MEDLEY

Juanita Faye Medley, 70, of 418 Merriman Avenue, died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at the Danville Center for Health and Rehabilitation.

Born June 18, 1932 in Hazard, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Bertha Jent Asher. She was the widow of Marshall Ruben Medley.

She had worked as a cook for Beaumont Inn and attended Eller’s Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include: seven sons, Marshall Jackson Medley, Harrodsburg, Marcus Fields, Georgetown, James Owen Fields, Rufus Fields, Craig Fields and George Fields, all of Hazard, and Roy Fields, OH; three daughters, Bertha Jean Fields and Linda Fields, both of Hazard, and Judy Fields, OH; two sisters, Clerinda Beginna and Floriene Moore, both of OH; one brother, William Asher, IN; three granddaughters, Brett Jo, Anita Ray and Bridget Medley, all of Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Friday November 22, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Kenneth Whitehouse officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Anthony Richardson, Jimmy Richardson, Daniel Richardson, Chris Devine, Nathan Richardson, Jeromy Hicks and Christopher Richardson.

MARGARET SCROGHAM

Ovie Margaret Scrogham, 95, of 1001 Glenridge Drive, Louisville, died Friday, November 22, 2002 at Meadowview Health and Rehab in Louisville.

Born April 23, 1907 in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late James Everett and Nancy Elizabeth Lester Carey. She was the widow of Levi Scrogham.

She and her husband owned and operated the Dari-Castle and Scrogham Trailer Park for a number of years and she was a long time member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Boyle County.

Survivors include: two sons, Ronnie Lee Scrogham, Louisville, and Kenneth G. Scrogham, FL; one sister-in-law, Opal Carey, Harrodsburg; and a special friend and caregiver, Dennis Anderson.; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funerals services were held Monday, November 25, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Larry Pursiful officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were John Scrogham, Greg Shields, Dennis Anderson, Don Willian, Eddie Leitch and Robert Cullison.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice or Immanuel Baptist Church.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Charles Goodlett Jr. at Kirkwood Baptist Church Cemetery on November 22, 2002.

Those attending were Curtis Sherrow, Preston Burgin, Lucian Landers, Tom Rappleye, Kyle Pankey, Tom Denny and Howard H. Howells.

Jerry Freeman served as bugler.

DR. RALPH BALLARD

Dr. Ralph T. Ballard, 69, of 987 Beaumont Avenue, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born March 26, 1933 in Burgin, he was the son of the late Joseph Woodard and Lillie Mae Wilder Ballard.

He was a general and family practitioner in Harrodsburg for many years. He was a Major in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War as a M.A.S.H Unit surgeon.

Survivors include: his wife, Ann “Sandy” Northcross Ballard, Harrodsburg; three sons, Lt. Col. Robert A. Ballard, Leonardstown, MO, Major Brian T. Ballard, CA, and Captain Christopher L. Ballard, Ft. Lewis, WA; three daughters, Anne Woodward (Jack L.) White, Harrodsburg, Julia A. (Anthony) Rice, Georgetown, and Katherine B. (Tom) Davenport, Ft. Knox; one sister, Juanita Mendoza, Las Vegas, NV; nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Ballard.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. Saturday until time of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, at Spring Hill Cemetery with Lt. Col. Robert A. Ballard officiating. Burial, with his sons performing military honors, will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his sons and sons-in-law.

Memorials are suggested to one’s favorite charity.

HUNTER BURTON

Hunter D. Burton, 87, of 511 Linden Avenue, died Monday, December 2, 2002 at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born September 24, 1915 in Harrodsburg, he was the son of the late James Edgar and Hallie Brewer Burton.

He was owner-operator of Burton Oil and H. B. Sanitation. He was a member of Harrodsburg Christian Church where he served as an elder and Sunday School teacher for several years.

He was past president of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club where he had more than 45 years of perfect attendance and was a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was past president of the Danville County Club, past president of the Mercer County Chamber of Commerce and was instrumental in its organization.

He was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel in 1969 by Governor Louie Nunn. He was co-founder of Mercer Little League Football and past president of the Kentucky Housing Association.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the VFW.

He had worked for Southern Railroad, Ashland Oil and Marathon Oil companies, was past executive director of Harrodsburg Housing Authority.

Survivors include; his wife, Mary Zella Burton, Harrodsburg; one son, Eddie (Pam) Burton, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Susie (David) Duhe, San Clemente, CA, Ann Hunter (Terry Sutherland) Burton, Harrodsburg; and Louise (Harry) Bush, Lexington; one sister, Mary (Ernie) Hookway, Tustin, CA; three grandchildren, Noah and Hunter Burton and Alyssa Duhe. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Burton.

Visitation will be at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and at noon at the church on Thursday.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 5, at the Harrodsburg Christian Church with Don Chase and Phil Williams officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Ison, Jack Coleman, Jim McGlone, Jim Moseley, Amos Jenkins and Larry Forgey. Honorary bearers will be members of the Harrodsburg Rotary Club and employees of H. and B. Sanitation.

Memorials are suggested to the Harrodsburg Christian Church, James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital Foundation, or the Harrodsburg Educational Foundation.

CLARA FITZGERALD

Clara “Jean” Fitzgerald, 74, of 130 Dedman Drive, died Tuesday, December 3, 2002 at her residence.

Born May 22, 1928 in New Castle, IN, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Della Brummett Green.

She retired from the Harrodsburg Police Department in 1990 and was a member of the Harrodsburg Baptist Church.

She was a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Kentucky State Police Post #7, Richmond.

Survivors, include: her husband, James E. Fitzgerald, Harrodsburg; one son, James L. (Ellen Marie) Fitzgerald, Harrodsburg; one sister, Louise Fitzgerald, Oak Ridge, TN; and an uncle and aunt, William and Mary Huff, who raised her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 6, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Dr. Robert DeFoor and Phil Yates officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the chapel form 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Pallbearers will be Jim Brooks, Larry Morris, Ernie Kelty, Tim Bryant, Monty Trower, Todd Burns and Jennings Burns. Honorary bearers include Ruth Ann Bryant, Betty Yeaste, Evelyn Taylor, Lucille Morris and the Members of he Faith, Hope and love Sunday School Class.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Hospice or Haggin Memorial Hospital.

BILLIE HAZELIP

Billie Jean Hazelip, 49, of 533 Graham Ave., died Monday, December 2, 2002 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

Born December 22, 1952 in Strodsburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late William and Betty Schick Widmer.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors, include: her husband, John Lawrence Hazelip; one son, Jason Anthony (Ina Marie) Hazelip; one daughter, Tiffany Lucas; and three grandchildren, all of Harrodsburg.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Ransdell Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to American Liver Foundation.

JAMES ISHAM

James Royce Isham, 78, of Larchmont Drive, died Sunday, December 1, 2002 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.

Born December 22, 1923 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James and Hadgie B. Peavler Isham.

He was a retired machinist for Corning, Inc.

He was a member of Pioneer Baptist Church, a Kentucky Colonel and a Pioneer of Harrodsburg.

He was an army veteran of World War II, having served from 1943 to 1945, where he received a Purple Heart.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carol I. Bizzell, Harrodsburg; three sisters, Marie Best, Pauline Votaw and Mildred Isham, all of Harrodsburg; two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 4, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Jack Geurin and Butch Merchant officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Everett Best Jr., Michael Wayne Brown, David Lunsford, Donovan Bast, Stanley Isham Jr., Henry Anness and Ernest Shepherd.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

JAMES ISHAM
James Richard Isham, 60, 320 DAV Lane, London, died Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at his residence.

Born January 23, 1943 in Springfield, he was the son of the late Clarence William and Ruby Alice Fowler Isham.

He was a salesman and an army veteran.

Survivors include: two sons, James Todd (Susan) Isham, and Richard Blair Isham, both of Louisville; seven sisters, Betty Burton, JoAnn Dennis and Mary Jones, all of Harrodsburg, Kay Boswell and Donna Harmon, both of Springfield; Jane Trayner, Midway, and Doris Dennis, Louisville; a special friend, Coleman Freeman, London; two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Billy Isham, and one daughter, Christie Michelle Isham.

A memorial service was held Monday, February 17, at the Bowling Funeral Home in London. Graveside services will be held in Peter Cemetery in Mackville, Saturday, February 22, at 1:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.

LYNN MITCHELL

Lynn Tobin Mitchell, 73, of Nashville, TN, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002.

He was the son of the late J. B. and Mary Tobin Mitchell.

Survivors include: his wife, Saundra Mitchell, Nashville, TN; three daughters, Catherine Sanford, Nashville, TN; Nikki Meek, Boise, ID and Heather Tucker, Hopkinsville.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 30, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Chase officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations are suggested to The Parkinson’s Foundation.
