MADISON DERRINGER

Madison Best “Matt” Derringer, 70, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Born November 22, 1932 in Washington Conty, he was the son of the late J. E. and Walsie Shewmaker Derringer.

He was a member of the Mackville United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: one sister, Betty (Stan) Schalck, Lexington; two brothers, Richard (Naomi) Derringer, Harrodsburg, and Glenn Derringer, Springfield.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 22, at the Carey and Son Funeral Home, Springfield, with Rev. Jim Owens officiating. Burial was in the Peter Cemetery at Mackville.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Derringer, Bobby Derringer, Darrell Derringer, Kenneth Derringer, Monty Derringer, Jay Colvin and Owen Colvin. Honorary bearers were Billy Hill, Ambrose Braunecker, Mickey Dean, Charles Young, Billy Gene Barnett and Warden Young.

KENNETH HEIDEMAN

Kenneth K. Heideman, 83, Oakland Lane, died Saturday, March 22, 2003 at his residence.

Born October 12, 1919 in Symco, WI, he was the son of the late Edward and Melba Klemm Heideman.

He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he received his masters degree and was retired as a Lt. Commander after 24 years of service with the US Navy.

He was also a stock broker for UBS Paine Webber for 25 years.

He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Danville, a member of the American Legion and VFW.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and antique automobiles. He had also shown Morgan Horses.

Survivors include: his wife, Marie Helen (Marlene) Morrissey Heideman, Harrodsburg; three daughters, Lynn (John) Schenk, Schaumburg, IL, Jackie Speas, Ft. Myers, FL, and Candy Heideman (Wes) Johnson, West Chicago, IL; one brother, Edward (Betty) Heideman, Clintonville, WI; one sister-in-law, Ollie Heideman, Clintonville, WI; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 26, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. David Witten officiating. Burial was in Symco Cemetery, Symco, WI.

THOMAS SALLEE
Thomas Edgar Sallee, 83, Lexington, Road, died Monday, March 24, 2003 at his residence.

Born June 11, 1920 in Mercer County, he was the son of the late James Oliver and Nancy Elizabeth Harlow Sallee. He was the widower of Nannie Francis Powell Sallee.

He was a US Army Veteran of World War II, a self employed plumber, and a charter member of the Grace Baptist Church.

He was an avid sports fan of Harrodsburg High School, Campbellsville University and the University of Kentucky.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Ann (David) Collier, Harrodsburg; one brother, James Sallee, Louisville; two grandsons, David Wayne Collier and John Thomas Collier both of Harrodsburg. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene, Conrad, Leroy, Marshall and Paul Sallee, and one sister, Viola Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am. Friday, March 28, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Bro. David Collier and Bro. Mark Williams officiating. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Norm White, Mike Brown, Donald Sallee, Arthur Bugg, Glen Peavler and T. C. Claunch. Honorary bearers will be Harold Baker, Gary Griffieth, Jack Pearson, Bill Eldridge, Steven Ransdell, Billy Eldridge and Cue Phillips, Jr.

Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. To 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, and after 7:00 am. Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Grace Baptist Church Building Fund or Campbellsville University Maroon and White Fund.

LOUISE SIMS

Louise Sims, 93, of Bradford Grove Lane, Louisville, formerly of Harrodsburg, died Sunday, March 23, 2003 at Westminister Terrace, Louisville.

Born November 1, 1909 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Henry T. and Addie VanDiver Adams, She was the widow of Matt Sims.

She operated Adams Mill for many years and worked for Harrodsburg City Hall for several years.

She was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church, where she was in the Goodwill Sunday School class. She was also a member of the quilters.

Survivors, include: one daughter, Ida (Bill) Vaughn, Louisville; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carroll Adams.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 26, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Don Chase officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jack Pearson, Bill Vaughn, Jim Hogue, Steve Hieronyimus, Stuart Warner and Gene Koenig. The quilters were honorary bearers

LOREN BLACKETER

Loren R. “Jonah” Blacketer, 85, of San Francisco, CA, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 at his residence.

Born May 6, 1917, he was the son of the late Elmer and Hattie Shewmaker Blacketer.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a longtime resident of Harrodsburg and West Palm Beach City, FL.

Survivors include: his wife, Rachel Ransdell Blacketer, San Francisco, CA; one daughter, Linda Blacketer (Dan) Dadt, San Francisco, CA; five sisters, Lucille (William) Burke, Cornishville, Juanita (Leslie) Pearson, Moberly, MO, Norene (Robert) Brueck, Sarasota, FL; Lavonne (Marion) Kayes, Marshallville, OH, and Laverne (Larry) Lee, Rockford, MI; six brothers, Paul (Peggy) Blacketer, Harrodsburg, Joseph Blacketer, Cornishville, R. Marvin Blacketer, Franklin, IN, Charles (Marie) Blacketer, Lawrenceburg, Carl W. (Nancy) Blacketer, New Albany, IN and William Blacketer. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margie Cloyd and Regina Freeman, and one brother, J. T. Blacketer.

A private memorial will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2065 W. El Camino Real, Ste. C., Mountain View, CA 94040.

LLOYD MYERS

Lloyd I. Myers, 78, of 928 Ridgeway, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.,

Born April 26, 1924 in Louisville, he was the son of the late Clarence and Florence Myers.

He was a salesman for Mohawk and Howard Carpenter Carpet. He was a member of the Mercer Masonic Lodge #777 F&AM, Oleika Shrine, Harrodsburg Lions Club, American Legion and the VFW.

He served in the army during World War II where he received the Purple Heart and was a former POW in Germany.

He was a member of the Harrodsburg Christian Church where he was an elder.

Survivors include: his wife, Grace Burns, Harrodsburg; one stepdaughter, Gloria Bailey Davis, Harrodsburg; two grandsons, Damon Dak (Jennifer) Davis and Paul Hunter Davis; one sister, Shirley M. Perrine, Louisville; three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29, at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel with Phil Williams officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Bohon Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Trisler, Harry Howard, Bill Brinkley, James Hogue, Calvin Wiley and Z. B. Teater.

Memorials can be made to the Harrodsburg Christian Church.

TIMOTHY STEPHENS
Timothy Daryell Stephens, 41, 4028 Weber Way, Lexington, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born August 17, 1961 in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of Donald G. and Wanda Faye King Stephens of Lancaster.

He was a line adjuster for Osram Sylvania in Versailles, a member of the Bluegrass Sportsman League, Wilmore, a graduate of Lafayette High School and a member of the Lafayette High School Football Boosters.

He was a former baseball coach for SLYB and a former soccer coach for SLSA.

He was a member of Southland Christian Church in Lexington.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include: his wife, Teresa Gail Sims Stephens, Lexington; two sons, Travis Daryell Stephens and Trent Daniel Stephens, both of Lexington; two brothers, Donald (Judy) Stephens, Harrodsburg, and Barry (Jautanna) Stephens, Lexington; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gayle and Alberta Sims, Lexington. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rhonda Stephens.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29, at the Southland Christian Church, Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, with Jon Weece officiating. Burial was in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens, Lexington.

Pallbearers were Paul Abney, Paul Adams, Dax Carmickle, Jeff Carmickle, Joshua Cobb, Bob Derringer, Bill Hayhurst, Chris Lovely, Leo Mucci, Steve Kindrick Gerald Patrick and Robert Taylor.

Memorials are suggested to Stephens Boys’ Fund c/o National City Bank, any location in Danville or Lexington, Southland Christian Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Ransdell Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTINE WATTS

Christine Watts, 72, of Hensley Heights, died Sunday March 30, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

Born June 9, 1930 in Mercer County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Davis and Sylvia Pankey Claunch.

She was a member of Bruner’s Chapel Baptist Church and had retired after forty years at Cricketeer in Harrodsburg.

She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.

Survivors include: her husband, William T. Watts, Harrodsburg; one son, Richard Lee Watts, Harrodsburg.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 2, at the Alexander and Royalty Funeral Home with Rev. Don Reid officiating. Burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Joe Russell, Tony Pankey, Kyle Pankey, Tommy Peavler, Wayne Watts and Jack Vinning.

MILITARY RITES

Douglas Laws Post #52, American Legion, Post #6935, VFW and DAV Post #54 conducted Military Rites for Lloyd Myers at Bohon Christian Church cemetery on March 29, 2003.

Those attending were Lucian Landers, Curtis Sherrow, Marion Mershon, Preston Burgin, James Tewmey, Gary Winfield, Joe Harlow, Kyle Pankey and Howard H. Howells.

Zena Teater III served as bugler.

Army representatives were SFC Shannon Ross and SSG John Budd.

GLADYS ALEXANDER

Gladys Lucille Alexander, 90, widow of James Menefee Alexander, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Haggin Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete at the Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorials are suggested to the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital or the Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.
