Lloyd Gene Shelton

ELKTON - Lloyd Gene Shelton, 66, of Elkton, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003, at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, Tenn. of natural causes.
Born June 5, 1936 in Clifty, Ky., he was the son of the late Sidney and Lura Syble Shelton. He was retired from Western State Hospital where he was a cook. He was a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church and was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Shelton of Elkton; two sons, Darryl Shelton of Detroit, Mich. and Lloyd Shelton Jr. of Gibraltar, Mich.; four daughters, Martha Paquette of Monroe, Mich., Patricia McGuire of Pickney, Mich. Sandra Shelton of Columbia, Tenn. and Laura Thomas of Corbin, Ky.; three sisters, Joy Koths of Erin, Tenn., Eva Cuthair of Phoenix, Ariz. and Deanna Miracle of Elkton; 13 grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 18, at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Jimmy Dukes officiating. Burial followed in Heltsley Cemetery.

Thelma Faye Eaves

Thelma Faye Eaves, 87, of Central City, died Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Oct. 17, 1915 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Eaves; one son, Charles Ted Eaves, and granddaughter, Tammy Sue Thompson; and one great - grandson, Justin Brasher.
She is survived by one son, William Fred Eaves of Central City; one daughter, Barbara Jean Thompson of Central City; 11 grandchildren, Jeanie Isbell, Vicki Cornette, Sharliene Tucker, Robin Yonts, Bonnie Hill, Stacie Brasher, Doug Thompson, Johnny Thompson, Glenn Thompson, Chucky Thompson and Troy Eaves; 16 great - grandchildren; and four great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 17, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Curtis McGhee officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Edith Oller Jones

NEW LENOX, ILL. - Edith Oller Jones, 87, of New Lenox, formerly of Central City, died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at her residence.
Born Feb. 19, 1916 in Grayson County, she was of the Baptist faith and had worked in manufacturing in a factory. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Jones in 1982.
She is survived by one daughter, Sue Carol (James E.) McCarthy of New Lenox, Ill.; two grandchildren, James D. McCarthy and Christine E. McCarthy Cramer; two great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 18, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Marion June Mitchell Spalding

Marion June Mitchell Spalding, 83, of Central City, formerly of Martinsville, Ind., died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born April 3, 1920 in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City and St. Martins in Martinsville. While in Central City, she was employed by Kentucky Utilities from 1942 - 1945. She was also a member of the Central City Lioness Cub from 1942 - 1945. She also worked in the medical departments of doctors’ offices and clinics, filing insurance claims for patients. While in Martinsville, she was a charter member of the Martinsville Lioness Club and a member of the Amici Homemakers Club.
She is survived by her husband, John C. Spalding; one brother, Carl T. (Jackie) Mitchell; one nephew, Joe Glenn (Teresa) Mitchell; two great - nieces, Andrea Ward and Tracie Mitchell; and one great - nephew, Scottie Mitchell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Central City. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John A. “Tony” Wolfe

John A. “Tony” Wolfe, 61, of Central City, died Friday, May 16, 2003 at his residence.
Born Jan. 8, 1942 in Daviess County, he was a truck driver and a teamster employed at Local 215. He also had a tree - trimming service.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Jean Webster Wolfe of Central City; one son, Robin Wolfe of Beechmont; one daughter, Susie Pendley of Drakesboro; two grandsons, Kris and Matthew Wolfe; two step - granddaughters, Gabriel Hudnall of Russellville and Andreia Shaw of Morgantown; and five step - grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were private. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary E. Rowe

Mary E. Rowe, 75, of Central City, died Friday, May 16, 2003, at her residence.
Born Dec. 29, 1927 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and attended Emberry Church in Todd County. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gilbert Higgins.
She is survived by her husband, James Rowe of Central City; two sons, James Dewayne Rowe of Central City and Michael D. Rowe of Bremen; three grandchildren, Mary Jean Hardin, John Michael Rowe and Nathan Dewayne Rowe; three great - grandchildren, Caleb, Clayton and Zachary; and two sisters, Irene Powell and Magaline Butler, both of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 18, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Revs. Larry Chapman and J. W. Haire officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Elizabeth Wilkins

Elizabeth Wilkins, 81, of Central City, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at her residence.
Born June 18, 1921 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and a member of Richardson’s Chapel Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wilkins in 1987.
She is survived by two sons, Glendel Wilkins of Evansville and Marcus F. Wilkins of Bremen; one daughter, June Berry of Central City; six grandchildren, Buddy Berry, David Berry, Frances Berry, Jenny Knight, Cassie Wilkins and Jami Wilkins; two step - grandchildren, Cindy Latham and Doug Thomas; seven great - grandchildren; and one sister, Mae McIntosh.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 20, 5 ­ 7 p.m., at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 21, at 10 a.m., also at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J. W. Haire officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Leota Skaggs Phelps

MORTONS GAP - Leota Phelps, 90, of Mortons Gap, died Thursday, May, 15, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born Jan. 26, 1913 in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her father, Logan Skaggs; her mother, Lennie Skaggs; her husband, Jake Phelps; one daughter, Bonnie Ruth Phelps; one sister, Ruth Martin; two brothers, Jim Skaggs and Carlos Skaggs; one half - brother Elbert Skaggs; and one grandchild.
She is survived by one son, Winford Ramsey, of Madisonville; two daughters, Jean Phelps, of Mortons Gap and Judy Stinson of Claremore, Okla.; one brother, Leroy Skaggs of Madisonville; three sisters, Bonnie Satterfield of Evansville, Velma Leahmon of Bullhead, Ariz and Eunice Harkins of Greenville; one half - brother, James Logan Skaggs of Kansasville, Wis.; one half - sister, Louise Skaggs, of Kansasville, Wis.; nine grandchildren; 13 great - grandchildren; and five great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 18, at Bandy Funeral Home in Nortonville with the Rev. Shannon

Collin Matthew Jessie
CLIFTY ­ Collin Matthew Jessie, 8, of the Clifty - Kirkmansville community died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. of injuries received as a result of a 4 - wheeler accident.
Born in Christian County, March 3, 1996, the son of Kerry D. and Marcia Spurlin Jessie, he was a second grade student at North Todd Elementary and a member of New Harmony Baptist Church and New Harmony youth activity groups. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jim Spurlin.
Survivors include his parents; a brother, Nicholas Jessie of the home; paternal grandparents, Senora and Brenda Jessie of the Clifty - Kirkmansville community; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Spurlin of Greenville; an uncle, Jeff Spurlin of Greenville; and aunts Pam (Donald) McGehee of Clifty and Belinda (James) Francies of Allegre; and five cousins.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 14 at New Harmony General Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Wright and the Rev. Bobby Vance officiating. Burial followed in Greens Chapel Cemetery.

Hazel Griffith

Hazel Griffith, 86, died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Dec. 24, 1917, she was a homemaker and of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include a son, Preston Lee King of Owensboro; a daughter, Betty Loney of Central City; a brother, Henley Woodard of Central City; a sister, Edith Duke of California; 11 grandchildren; 21 great - grandchildren; and 11 great great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m., May 14 at Tucker Funeral Home with Bro. Hobert Bolin officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Delema Faye Brown

POWDERLY ­ Delema Faye Brown, 87, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 7, 1916, she was a widow.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce and Barry Brown, both of Powderly; three brothers, Clarence D. Edwards and Hildred Edwards, both of Powderly and Bernie Edwards of Greenville; three sisters, Marion Vincent of Central City, Carolyn Bowen of Powderly and Anna Bouvier of Buffalo, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 16 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Casebier officiating. Burial followed in Old Bethel Cemetery.

Loretta Anderson

Loretta “Nannie” Anderson, 84, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004.
Born in Butler County, March 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Alex and Becky Kassinger Evans, she attended McHenry Church of God of Prophecy faithfully until her illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 47 years, Walter Anderson; a granddaughter, Laura Sue James; a grandson, Henry Alan Anderson; a daughter - in - law, Claudette Anderson (wife of Henry Anderson); and two sisters, Edith Evans and Helen Culbertson.
Survivors include four sons, Walter “Bubby” (Alice Faye) Anderson, Bobby (Marilyn) Anderson, Jimmy “Pete” (Donna) Anderson and Henry Anderson; a daughter, Becky Sue (Bishop Earl “Sonny”) James; a sister, Edeth Evans; 10 grandchildren, Bud (Gloria) Anderson, Donna (Bruce) Goodman, Dana (Michael) Estep, Chris (Rita) Anderson, Melissa (Norman), David Anderson, Jimmy Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Richard Anderson and Christy Anderson; seven great - grandchildren, Spencer and Ciara Anderson, Jacob Goodman, Krista and Adam Estep, and Preston and Bethanie House; and a lot of friends.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 15 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Daniel George “Danny” Curtis

FRANKLIN, TENN. ­ Daniel George “Danny” Curtis, 63, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Born in Akron, Ohio, Jan. 15, 1941, son of Kathryn Curtis and the late George Earl Curtis, he was a member of Rockport Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He was currently attending Thompson’s Station Church near Franklin. He owned and operated Curtis Paint & Body Shop in Central City for 40 years before retiring to Franklin. He restored antique furniture as a hobby.
Survivors include his wife, Walteen Curtis; two daughters, Danita Crivello of Laguna Beach, Calif. and Kim Stone of Franklin; five sisters, Gwyneth Keeling of Hopkinsville, Maxine Waldygo of Washington, Penn., Linda Gossett of San Diego, Calif., Karen Fleming of Lilburn, Ga. and Sandra Cornette of Hatiesburg, Miss.; a brother, Ronnie Curtis of Greenville; five grandchildren, Daniella Crivello, Jordan Stone, Grayson Stone, Gabrielle Crivello and Joshua Stone.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 15 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Gossett and the Rev. Greg Stone officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Paskel Louis Jewell

Paskel Louis Jewell, 76, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 in Central City.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 25, 1928, son of the late Bobby and Hilda Jewell, he was a welder for UTLX in Whiting, Ind. for 25 years and a pipe fitter for the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald E. Jewell and four brothers, Harlan, Robert L., Edgar and Newman Jewell.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Robertson Jewell; a son, Robert W. Jewell of Central City; two brothers, Raymond Jewell of Central City and Charles Jewell of Smith Mills, Ky.; two sisters, Dorothy Jewell Garrett of Central City and Jean Pearson of Jeffersonville, Ind.; four granddaughters, Donelle, Heidi, Lori and Dawn, all of Georgia; four grandsons, Wayne, Carl and Jerry of Whiting, Ind. and Jim of Demonte, Ind.; and 10 great - grandchildren, Cody, Devon, Camden, Brandon, Daniel, Stephanie, Corrisa, Chasity, Jenifer and Katelyn.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., May 15 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mount Zion Cemetery in Central City.

Opal Mae Camplin

MORGANTOWN ­ Opal Mae Camplin, 85, died Friday, May 14, 2004 in Bowling Green.
Born in Muhlenberg County, the daughter of the late Jess and Rosa Lee Vincent, she was a homemaker and a member of Cedar Bluff Baptist Church in Rockfield, Ky. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Camplin; a son, Jerry Browning; three brothers, Robert, Jewel and Charlie Vincent; and two sisters, Mary Jarvis and Elizabeth Ray.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur Browning of Cedar Lake, Ind. and Steven Camplin of Morgantown; three daughters, Ruth Ann Ross of Braidwood, Ind., Christy Ringenberg of Murphy, N.C. and Darla Price of Rockfield; a brother, Henry Vincent of Greenville; and grandchildren, great - grandchildren and great great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., May 17 at Jones Funeral Chapel in Morgantown. Burial followed in Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
