Truman Davis

MADISONVILLE - Truman Davis, 79, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at his residence.
Born in McLean County Feb. 17, 1926, he was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of Towers Chapel United Methodist Church and the Sacramento Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Gene Davis and a sister, Juanita Dement.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elogine Taylor Davis; a son Paul Allen Davis of Elmore, Ala.; two daughters, Shirley Bozell of Greenville and Connie Somers of Hanson; a sister, Elva Lee McKenney; 14 grandchildren, Sherry Gish, Danielle Tompkins, Jeremy Baldwin, Jarrod Baldwin, Matthew Somers, Samantha Somers, Ashland Davis, Brandi Barnes, Christopher Barnes, Mindy Bozell, Christopher Bozell, Billie Bozell, Bobby Bozell and Jamie Bozell and six great - grandchildren, Jakob Baldwin, Noah Baldwin, Connor Baldwin, Tyler Jones, Sean Phelps and Lexi Beatty.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 7 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento with the Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. Burial followed in Free Union Cemetery in Sactamento. Jeremy Baldwin, Jarrod Baldwin, Matthew Somers, Dennis Dement, Ronald Dame and Ricky Dame served as pallbears.

Ella Rebecca Tyson Campbell

GRAHAM - Ella Rebecca Tyson Campbell, 78, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at her residence after a lengthy illness.
Born in Greenville Jan. 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Hosiey Tyson and Betty Brown Tyson. She was of the Pentecostal Faith and was a file clerk for Dr. Scholl’s in Chicago before retiring. She was preceded in death her husband, Grover Clevland Campbell in 1966; a son, Tommy Ray Campbell in 2005 and a daughter, Betty Joyce Campbell Smith in 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Bivins of Greenville; four sons, Bobby Campbell and Ronnie Campbell, both of Graham, Benney Campbell of Chicago and Jerry Campbell of Greenville; a sister Margaret Groves of Graham; 14 grandchildren and 18 great - grandchildren;
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. May 7 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Groves officiating. Burial followed in Graham Hill Cemetery in Graham.

William Bruce Jessup

WOODBURY, TENN. - William Bruce Jessup, 57, died Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Stones River Hospital in Tenn. after a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 13, 1948, he was the son of the late James and Virginia Ford Jessup. He was of the Baptist faith and a coalmine owner.
Survivors include three daughters, Tammy (Duane) Harvey, Tina Jessup, Toni (Ben) Henderson, all of Greenville; two sons, Jody Jessup of Greenville and Darren Jessup of Woodbury, Tenn.; three sisters, Coletta Kincade and Jeanetta Maddox, both of Greenville and Joyce Ann Jessup of Calif.; six brothers, David Jessup, T.K. Jessup and Gerald Jessup, all of Greenville, Robert Jessup and Jackie Jessup, both of Butler County and Malcolm Jessup of Spencer, Tenn. and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. May 11 at Gary’s Funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Eades and the Rev. Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Vernal Grove Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. May 10 at Gary’s Funeral Home.

Bessie Mae Whitmer

Bessie Mae Whitmer, 86, died Friday, May 6, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, Ill.
Born in Muhlenberg County March 30, 1919, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Donald L. Whitmer of Redan, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Fowler of Chatham, Ill.; a brother, Jack Bradshaw of Creve Coeur, Ill.; two sisters, Emma Waldeck of Bonnieville, Ky. and Hazel Campbell of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; 5 great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 9 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore.

Rebecca Elizabeth Hill Sherrod

GREENVILLE - Rebecca Elizabeth Hill Sherrod, 89, died Friday, May 6, 2005 at Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Weir Sept. 29, 1915, the daughter of the late John Wesley Hill and Grace Caskey Hill, she was a homemaker, housewife and a member of Roland Memorial Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband L.W. (Dub) Sherrod, four brothers, John Hill, Perry Hill, Norman Hill and Eldoras (Dodie) Hill and four sisters, Ettie Drake, Christine Cary, Essie Hardison and Etha Wells.
Survivors include a sister, Jessie Hale of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. May 9 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Mooneyhan and the Rev. James Doyel officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Gertrude Abbott

BROWDER - Gertrude Abbott, 85, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Butler County Aug. 4, 1919, she was a homemaker and a member of Browder General Baptist Church.
Survivors include a brother, Boyd Morphew of Browder and three sisters, Ruby Webb of Midlothian, Ill., Betty Mefford of Browder and Margaret Cartwright of Evansville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. May 11 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Kerry Vincent officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. May 10 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home.

Eva Mae Jackson

Eva Mae Jackson, 81, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 in Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind. Oct. 13, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Cecil M. Floyd and Sarah P. Floyd. She was retired from the state of California as a clerk and a member of First Christian Church in Central City. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Jones and her second husband, Roger Jackson.
Survivors include a nephew, Steve Granadas of Vista, Calif.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 12 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. C.W. Duncan officiating. There will be no visitation.

Lee Roy Vincent

GREENVILLE - Lee Roy Vincent, 77, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County Oct. 30, 1927, he was the son of the late Dillis Vincent and Lorene Stanley Vincent. He was a veteran of the Korean War and was a retired employee of the Paradise T.V.A. Steam Plant. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenville and he and his wife helped organize the Young at Heart Organization. He helped in the Literacy Group and was a volunteer at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis Vincent and a brother, Athalee Vincent.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Fleming of Greenville; a brother, Clyde Vincent of Greenville; three grandchildren, Sharon Tedder of Madisonville, Janet Piper of Bowling Green and Marcus Fleming of Greenville; five great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. May 11 at the First Baptist Church in Greenville with Dr. Charles Midkiff and the Rev. Gary McAbee officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will from 6 - 8 p.m. May 10 at Gary’s Funeral Home. The family requests that contributions be made to Green River Hospice.
Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Alvin Hall

CLEATON - Alvin Hall, 84, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at his residence.
Born in Bevier Sept. 2, 1920, the son of the late Shelby and Virginia Revlette Hall. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Kirt Mine for 13 years and for Gibraltor Coal Company for 26 years. He was very proud of being a democrat and the 28 years he served as magistrate on the Fiscal Court. He also served on the County Health Board, County Water Board, County Library Board and was a Member of the Cleaton Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anna Louise Hall, his stepmother, Elsie Hall, a brother, Lehman Hall, two grandsons and one great grandson.
Survivors include four sons, Alvin Wayne (Becky) Hall of Cleaton, Bill (Judy) Hall of Whitting, Ind., Fred (Mary) Hall of Calumet, Ill. and Michael (Elizabeth) Hall of Chapmanville, W. Va.; one daughter, Julia Harless of Danville, W. Va.; 13 grandchildren, 13 great - grandchildren; nephew, Larry Bullock and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. May 12 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Earnest Bean officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 9 p.m. May 11 at Tucker Funeral Home.

Eva Mae Jackson

CENTRAL CITY – Eva Mae Jackson, 81, died Sunday, May 8, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 13, 1923, to the late Cecil M. Floyd and Sarah P. Floyd, she was a member of First Christian Church in Central City, and she was retired from the state of California as a clerk.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leroy Jones, and her second husband, Roger Jackson.
Survivors include a nephew, Steve Granadas of Vista, Calif.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. May 12 at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. C.W. Duncan officiating. There will be no visitation.

Aldrich Leon Horton

GREENVILLE – Aldrich Leon Horton, 78, died Thursday, April 21, 2005.
Born in Cherokee County, Alabama, Dec. 3, 1926, to the late Ira Dallas Horton, Jr., and Ida Bell Stephens Horton, he was retired from Tennessee Valley Authority after more than 35 years of service. He was a member of the United States Armed Forces, and he played varsity football at Alabama A&M College.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Martin Horton; a daughter, LaVita Horton; a son, Von Horton; two sisters, Juanita Bryant of Flynt, Mich., and Edith Jean Cooper of Alexandra, Ala.; two brothers, David Horton and Waymon Horton of Cedar Bluff, Ala., three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher, trustee and telephone angel. He served on the governing committee for the UK Extension Office, 4 - H Shooting Team, and Advisory Committee for the Community Hospital Home Health Department.
He was awarded the 2002 Jefferson Award for highest ideals and achievements in the United States.
He was also a foster father and big brother through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program that he helped organized locally. He was a member of the Lions Club and served two terms as president.
He also designed and executed the Team PC Program to loan computer equipment to high school students who were financially challenged, was a little league coach and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. April 21 at Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville with the Rev. Samuel Harris officiating and the Rev. Dwayne Tutt eulogizing. Interment followed at Reynolds Cemetery in Greenville. G.C. Williams Funeral Home of Louisville was in charge of the arrangements.

Verna Mae Allen Dukes

GREENVILLE - Verna Mae Allen Dukes, 81, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Greenville, April 23, 1924, the daughter of the late Carl Edward Allen and Hazel Marie Crick Allen, she was a nurses’ aid and had worked at Maple Manor and Belle Meade Nursing Homes before retiring. She was a member of Lead Hill United Methodist Church in Weir. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Harold (Tom) Allen on her birthday, April 23.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Kenneth Dukes; two sons, William Keith (Charlotte) Dukes of Greenville and Terry L. (Linda) Dukes of Graham; a daughter, Glenda (Paul) Young of Greenville; a sister, Betty (Olton) Lee of Greenville; 11 grandchildren and 16 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. April 29 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Gabbard and the Rev. Tommy Tackett officiating. Burial followed in Cave Springs Cemetery in Greenville.
