Atha F. Murphy

EVANSVILLE - Atha F. Murphy, 82, of Evansville, died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Born May 23, 1920 in Muhlenberg County, he was retired from Whirlpool. He was a veteran and received the Purple Heart for service in World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Bell Murphy; one son, Robert Croft; and one daughter, Betty Murphy.
He is survived by two sons, Leon (Debbie) Murphy of Newburgh, Ind. and James (Ronda) Murphy of Evansville, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; and six great - great - grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 1, also at Tucker Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Shemwell officiating. Burial will follow in Bluff Cemetery in Central City.

Minnie J. Ewing

DRAKESBORO - Minnie J. Ewing, 93, of Drakesboro, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Belle Meade Nursing Center in Greenville.
Born Feb. 1, 1910 in Muhlenberg County, she was of the Pentecostal faith and was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, James Cecil Ewing of Drakesboro; and four daughters, Beverly Garrett of Drakesboro, Jonell Thompson of Scottburg, Ala., Shirley Soyars of Bowling Green and Cassie Jones of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 27, at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. T. H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Highway Cemetery at Drakesboro.

William Lee Cox
HOPKINSVILLE ­ William Lee Cox, 79, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Born in Portsmouth, Ohio, March 8, 1925, he was a retired Navy and civil servant, a U.S. Navy veteran and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Young Cox; a son, Terry Cox of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Linda Brumfield of Madisonville and Angi Messick of Alberta, Canada; a brother, James Cox of Sun City, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and two great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., April 23 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Rhye officiating. Burial followed in Mount Zion Cemetery in Central City.

Robert McClain Smith

OCALA, FLA. ­ Robert McClain Smith, 77, died Monday, April 19, 2004 at Legacy Hospice House in Ocala, Fla.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 19, 1928, the son of the late Roy W. Smith and Julia G. Lovell Smith, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and had a long career with the Federal Aviation Agency and Eastern Airlines. He retired and moved to Ocala, Fla. from Miami, Fla.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Grace E. Newland Smith; two sons, Rodney Smith of Orange City, Fla. and Mark Smith of Miami, Fla.; a daughter, Ann Smith Clark of Ocala, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 23 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Vernon Perdue officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Noah Ike Slaughter

CLIFTY ­ Noah Ike Slaughter, 82, died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville of natural causes.
Born Feb. 28, 1922, the son of the late Walter and Briza Chapman Slaughter, he was retired from Ardco and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Blake Slaughter in 1990.
Survivors include two sons, Gary Slaughter and Garth Slaughter, both of Clifty; two daughters, Carlene Monroe and Cheryl Nichols, both of Clifty; a brother, Oscar Slaughter of Hopkinsville; three sisters, Irene Wilson of Elkton, Virginia McGhee of Nashville, Tenn. and June Sharp of Lewisburg; seven grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 26 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Neil Immel and the Rev. Tommy Wilhite officiating. Burial followed in Slaughter Cemetery.

Robert Carney Blackburn

Robert Carney Blackburn, 68, died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Verdunville, W.V., Dec. 24, 1935, he was a retired salesman and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Genieve Blackburn; five sons, Bobby Gene Blackburn of Blairsville, Ga., Terry Lee Blackburn of Powderly, Michael Wayne Blackburn of Oakwood, Ga., Don Gregory Blackburn of Grays Lake, Ill., and Randy Ray Blackburn of Morton Grove, Ill.; two daughters, Margaret Ann Banks of Clairmont, Ga. and Rhonda Lynn Allen of Bremen; a brother, Howard Blackburn of Southgate, Mich.; a sister, Lona Hagen of Phoenix, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; and eight great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 25 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Noffsinger officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Virgil Fonzo Rolley

CADIZ ­ Virgil Fonzo Rolley, 85, formerly of Muhlenberg County, died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at his residence after several months of illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 2, 1919, the son of the late William Rolley and Dora Ellen McElvain Rolley, he retired from Chrysler in Evansville, Ind. in 1963 after 17 years of service and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Walker Rolley in 1970.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Shelia Crick Rolley; four daughters, Nancy Carole Geller of McCutchinsonville, Ind., Paulette Jane Rider of Evansville, Ind., Kimberly Elaine Hartman of Steeleville, Ill. and LaDonna Morris of Bremen; a son, Steven Wayne Rolley of Graham; three brothers, William Edge Raleigh of Evansville, Ind., Everette Rolley and G.B. Rolley, both of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 27 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Brett Herring officiating. Burial followed in Friendship Cemetery in Greenville.

Buell James “B.J.” Winn

ROSEWOOD ­ Buell James “B.J.” Winn, 76, died Friday, April 23, 2004 in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 13, 1928, the son of Jesse W. Winn and Clara Rust Winn, he was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 20 years as a letter carrier. He was a member and a deacon of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Rosewood.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Martha Nell Winn of Greenville; two sons, Steve (Linda) Winn of San Antonio, Texas and David (Sharon) Winn of Greenville; a daughter, Cindy (Tim) Beeckman of Greenville; a sister, Christabel McElvain of Belton; six grandchildren, Stephanie Turner, Tiffany Winn, Brandon Winn and Candace Winn, all of San Antonio, Texas, Kristi (Jeremy) Johnston of Greenville, and Brooks Beeckman of Henderson; and three great - grandchildren, Olivia, Emmaleigh and Alex Johnston of Greenville.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 26 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. John L. Lott, Jr. and the Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Burial followed in Woodland Cemetery in Greenville.

Virginia Louise Brummett

Virginia Louise Brummett, 83, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 1, 1922, she was a homemaker and member of New Testament Christian Church in Central City. A Kentucky Colonel, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Russell; second husband, Frank DeLong; third husband, Fred Brummett and a son, Carl Wayne Russell.
Survivors include two sons, John Russell and Paul Russell, both of Central City; two daughters, Linda Bilkey of New Hope, Minn. and Cathy Wann of Dittmer, Mo.; a sister, Clara Mae Bradley of Central City and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. April 22 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. George Carman officiating. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. April 24 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill, Mo.

Catherine Rene` Mathis

GREENVILLE – Catherine Rene` Mathis, 33, died Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 25, 1973, she was a factory worker at Flynn Corp. and a member of Mercer Baptist Church where she had been an active member for many years. She was a joy to everyone she met, always had a smile and a kind word to say. A loving mother of two children and wonderful, loving wife, she was a treasured member of her families. Although she will be terribly missed, her family knows she is in Heaven where she is talking 90 miles a minute with loved ones who have gone on before her, worshiping her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and keeping a watchful eye on her loved ones below. Cat (as everyone knew her) was looking forward to starting Daymar College May 8, she was so overjoyed that she had passed all her college entrance exams with flying colors. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alinda (Linnie) Blake.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Ray Mathis; a son, Matthew Dewayne Mathis of Greenville; a daughter, Kelsey Brooke Mathis of Greenville; her father and step mother, Percy “Buddy” (Debra) Blake; father - in - law, Boyce (Eva) Mathis of Greenville; three sisters, Regina (Jeff) Amos of Central City, Tamika Jones of Earlington and Leslie Blake of Nortonville; a step brother, Jason Parrish of Evansville; two step sisters, Greta Wong of Evansville and Amanda Patton of Eddyville; three brothers - in - law, Bobby (Brenda) Mathis of Louisville, Billy Wayne (Chrystal) Mathis of Central City and Boyd (Donna) Mathis of Greenville; four sisters - in - law, Becky (Tim) Gray and Martha (Marc) Garrett, both of Central City, Ramona (Sonny) Fuller of Greenville and Mary Sue (Paul) Bland of Owensboro; 16 nieces and nephews and 18 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 20 at Mercer Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed at Jackson Cemetery in Greenville. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Billy Mathis, 190 Henry Lane, Greenville KY 42345.

James Edward Devine, Jr.

James Edward Devine Jr., 74, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 18, 1932, he was retired after 30 years as a coal miner from Gibraltor Coal Mines and a member of First Christian Church in Central City. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served one term on the Central City City Council and was a prior President of the Central City Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Gossett Devine; a son, James “Butch” Devine of Central City; three grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. April 21 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Heltsley officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Gertie Lorene Conway

BREMEN – Gertie Lorene Conway, 88, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 10, 1917, she was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include two sons, Phillip Conway and Darrel Conway, both of Bremen; a daughter, Faye Conrad of Owensboro; a step daughter, Mary Hancock of Fulton, Ky.; a brother, Carlos Vanover of Bremen; two sisters, Linda Neal and Edna McCoy, both of Bremen; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and several great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 19 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. J.W. Haire and the Rev. Danny Greene officiating. Burial followed at Gish Cemetery in Bremen.

Elizabeth Smith

HENDERSON – Elizabeth Smith, 88, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Sept. 2, 1917, she was a homemaker and member of Beech Creek Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny P. Smith; a son, Gordon Wayne Hughes and two grandsons, John Randall Coble Jr. and John W. Hollingsead.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Smith of Henderson and Gloria Bratcher of Central City; 10 grandchildren, Alesia Weber, Jerry W. Smith, Jeremy Coble, Krystal Rich, Anthony Bratcher, Randall Bratcher, Ashley Bratcher, Mazzie Carter, Derrick Kyle and Bryan Childs and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 20 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve McElvain officiating. Burial followed at New Hebron Cemetery in Penrod.

Debora “Debbie” Ann Durall Wells

GREENVILLE - Debora “Debbie” Ann Durall Wells, 49, died Monday, April 17, 2006 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a sudden illness.
Born in Xenia, Ohio, July 7, 1956, she was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barry Earl Wells in 1983.
Survivors include three daughters, Brandy Ann Wells Garcia and Ashley Nichole Wells, both of Central City and Sherry Danee Wells of Greenville; a son, Nicolas Antonio Wells of Greenville; parents, Whipple Zane Durall Sr. and Clara Isablle Sorenson Durall of Greenville; three brothers, Whipple Zane (Sharon) Durall Jr., Bruce William (Kathy) Durall and Bryan Glenn (Penny) Durall, all of Greenville; three grandchildren, Christian Earl Enrique Wells, Tristen Manuel Omar Wells and Jasmin Victoria Garcia; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. April 20 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Dr. Ray England officiating. Burial followed at Lone Star Cemetery in Weir.

Linda Diane Hall Grayson

MADISONVILLE – Linda Diane Hall Grayson, 51, died Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Oct. 17, 1954, she was the daughter of Lewis Pressley Hall and Mary Virginia Whitaker Hall. Preceded in death by her husband, Mack Combs in 2005; mother, Virginia Hall in 2001 and brother, David Hall in 2003, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Joni Hall (Billy) Groves and Heather Hall (Jimmy) Cobb, both of St. Charles, Ky.; a son, Benjamin “Benny” (Patricia) Grayson Sr. of Earlington; two step children, Kathy (Danny) Smith and Mack D. (Tiffany) Combs, both of Madisonville; her father, Lewis Pressley Hall of Dunmor; a grandmother, Hallie Whitaker of Dunmor; three brothers, Michael (Mike) Hall of Howell, Mi., Barry Hall and Jeffery Hall, both of Dunmor; a sister, Freda Dahlin of Ortonville, Mi.; three grandchildren, Laren Groves, Landen Groves and Benjamin Dale Grayson Jr.; five step grandchildren, Danny Smith, Ashleigh Combs, James Odie Adamson Jr., Justin Adamson and Maggie Powell and two step great grandchildren, Caleb Powell and Logan Powell.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. April 22 at Gary’s Funeral Home with Mr. Mickey McPherson officiating. Burial followed at New Hebron Cemetery in Dunmor.

William Parham Myers

GREENVILLE – William Parham Myers, 56, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Feb. 12, 1950, he was disabled and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Faye Myers; two sons, Billy Clay Myers of Greenville and Christopher Myers of Colorado Springs, Colo. and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were private. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
