Beechmont - Mrs. Lorene Elizabeth Hardison, 83, of Beechmont died Monday, June 3, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Center in Greenville.
Mrs. Hardison was born in Muhlenberg County on October 21, 1918. She was a homemaker and a member of Mud River Union General Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Hardison, two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include three sons, Eldon Hardison of Greenville, Wayne Hardison of Drakesboro and Harold Hardison of Central City; one daughter, Eva Dean Richardson of Beechmont; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Odean Hardison of Beechmont.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 6, 2002 at Mud River Union General Baptist Church with Reverend Brian Haire officiating. Burial followed in Mud River Union Cemetery in Belton.
Tucker Funeral Home in Beechmont was in charge of all arrangements.

Helen Young Crafton Williams
Leitchfield - Mrs. Helen Young Crafton Williams, 70, of Leitchfield, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Williams was born in Henderson County on January 27, 1932, the daughter of Thomas Brooks Crafton and Edna Young Crafton. She retired from teaching after having had taught for the Cloverport and Breckinridge County School System, Corydon, Dawson Springs and St. Bridgette’s in Vine Grove. She was married on September 15, 1953 to the Reverend W. Alfred Williams. She was a member of the Leitchfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Reverend W. Alfred Williams of Leitchfield; two daughters, Anniesse Williams of Greenville and Beth Speedy of Louisville; one son, Harold Williams of Louisville; one sister, Martha Crafton Tow of Sebree; and two grandchildren, Courtney and Matthew Speedy, both of Louisville.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 7, 2002 at Watson and Hunt Funeral Home Directors, US Highway 62 East in Leitchfield. Burial will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002 in the Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson.
Watson and Hunt Funeral Directors in Leitchfield was in charge of all arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the church of the donor’s choice.

Wilhelmine "Minnie" Eckert
Madisonville - Ms. Wilhelmine “Minnie” Eckert, 87, of Madisonville, formerly of McLean County died Monday,June 3, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Ms. Eckert was born in Chicago, Illinois on April 20, 1915. She was a telephone components assembly worker for Northern Telecom Inc. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Eckert; four sons, Horbert Eckert, David Eckert, Raymond Eckert and Gerald Eckert; one daughter, Elaine Eckert; and parents, Phillip and Katherine Daum.
Survivors include one daughter, Francine Burden of Madisonville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A mass services was held Friday, June 7, 2002 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Madisonville with Father Jerry Calhoun officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois.
Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rita Ann Bolatto
Muddy, Illinois - Mrs. Rita Ann Bolatto, 81, of Muddy, Illinois died Monday, June 10, 2002 Harrisburg Medical Center.
Mrs. Bolatto was born in Saline County, Illinois on September 29, 1920 to the late Virgilio Molinarolo and Regina Pessatto. She was a homemaker and married Michael Bolatto on February 17, 1946. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Bolatto on September 9, 1979; two brothers, John and Pete Molinarolo; and one sister, Adele Oliboni.
Survivors include three daughters, Patricia A. and husband Bosco Watson of Harrisburg, IL, Regina Bolato of Okawville, IL and Michele and husband Jamie Vincent of Central City; one son, Joe and wife Lisa Bolatto of Evansville, IN; six grandchildren, Michael and Claire Bolatto, Michael and Ross Vincent, Erin Watson and Andrew and wife Ann Watson; one great-grandchild, Ann Lawton Watson; two sister-in-laws, Lena Carrier and Jennie Landvatter.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Harrisburg, IL with Fr. Don Abell officiating. Burial will follow in Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado, IL.

Joseph E. House
Tamaroa, Illinois - Mr. Joseph E. House, 76, of Tamaroa, Illinois died Thursday, June 6, 2002 at St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. House was born in Perry County, Illinois on December 8, 1925 to the late Harley M. and Mary (Bailey) House. He married Pauline Keith on August 18, 1951. During his lifetime he served with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict, was a coal miner at Consol Burning Star Mine #2 for over 40 years prior to retirement, a member of Nine Mile Baptist Church, rural DuQuoin, IL having served as church treasurer for over 40 years, and a 50 year member of Mitchell Lodge #85 A.F. & A.M. where he served as Master five times and was currently serving as Secretary. He was also a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local 9721 where he served as Financial Secretary for 30 years, a member of the Perry County Shrine Club, was treasurer for the Nine Mile Cemetery Association, an avid golfer and enjoyed attending Pinckneyville Panther sporting events. He was preceded in death by, not only his parents but also, two brothers: Milas and Harry; one sister, Flossie Logan; and one brother-in-law, George Miller.
Survivors include his wife Pauline; three daughters, Dorothy Walker and husband Gary of Greenville, Luann Lipe and husband Robert of Pinckneyville and Alice LaFond and her husband Mark of Littleton, CO; one sister, Marian Miller of Shobonier, IL; three grandchildren, Nolan and Garrett Lipe and Derek Walker; two sister-in-laws, Jean House of Pinckneyville and Earlene House of O’Fallon, MO; one brother-in-law, Oran Logan of Tamaroa, IL; and along with numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 10, 2002 at the Nine Mile Baptist Church with Reverend Kevin Carrothers officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park in DuQuoin.
Masonic services were held at the funeral home.
Pyatt-Harrawood Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Nine Mile Cemetery Association or the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Lillian Hamilton Gentry
Central City - Mr. Lillian Hamilton Gentry, 86, of Central City died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. Gentry was born in Ohio County on December 14, 1915. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Central City Lions Club.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lynn Harvey of South Carrollton; three sons, Darrel Gentry, Bill Gentry of Lexinton and Jerry Gentry of Henderson; eight grandchildren; and two sisters, Cesna Hinton of Bowling Green and Vivian Gage of Naples, Florida.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Jeff D. Mathis officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donation to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Central City.

Larry Thomas Gregory
Greenville - Mr. Larry Thomas Gregory, 62, of Greenville died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Belle Meade Nursing Home in Greenville.
Mr. Gregory was born in Muhlenberg County on June 4, 1940. He was a mechanic. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo Gregory in March 2002 and one son, Larry Dean Gregory in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Gregory of Powderly and Karen Terry of Central City; four step-sons, David Buckles of Rineyville, Steven Buckles of Gastonia, N.C., Billy Buckles of White Mills and Michael Buckles of Murray; two brothers, Bobby Joe Gregory and Freddie Gregory both of Central City; and four sisters, Virginia Mundy of Dixon, Eva Lou Yonts of Cleaton, Carolyn Griffin of Nelson Creek and Brenda Sue Tramil of Cleaton.
Graveside services were held Monday, June 10, 2002 at Nebo Cemetery with T.H. Davis officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery in Greenville.

Mary Ellen Hunter
South Carrollton - Mrs. Mary Ellen Hunter, 84, of South Carrollton, died Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Muhlenberg County on November 26, 1917. She was employed by the Muhlenberg County School District as a retired school teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church in Central City. She was also a member of the Muhlenberg County Library Board and the Muhlenberg Community Hospital Board of Trustees. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gavin Alexander Hunter and one son, David Alexander Hunter.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Molly and Bill Alward of South Carrollton; one daughter-in-law, Vickie J. Hunter of Owensboro; one grandson, Rob Smith of South Carrollton; one granddaughter, Melissa C. Smith of Greensboro, North Carolina; three step-grandchildren, Denise Stinnett of Bowling Green, Chad Alward of Beaver Dam and Kenny Alward of Central City; three step-great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Ian and Kate; one brother, Jo M. Ferguson of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Jeff Dimattes officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Cemetery in South Carrollton.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to: Muhlenberg Community Hospital, First United Methodist Church in Central City, Muhlenberg County Libraries, Madisonville Community College (Muhlenberg County Campus) and local charity of donors choice.

Beverly Jane Fisher
Cleaton - Ms. Beverly Jane Fisher, 69, of Cleaton died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Ms. Fisher was born in Muhlenberg County on August 14, 1932. She was a music composer and was a published songwriter. She was a member of the Bevier Presbyterian Church where she was the pianist and a member of the Young at Heart organization. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sarah Fisher.
Survivors include two nieces, Alycia Cassidy and Patricia Graves both of Peoria, Illinois; one nephew, Robert Navarro of Columbus, Ohio; and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Archie Fugate officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

James Vernon McIntosh
Dunmor - Mr. James Vernon McIntosh, 79, of Dunmor died Sunday, June 9, 2002 at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Mr. McIntosh was born in Muhlenberg County on December 1, 1922. He was a retired laborer for Tannery. He was a member of Penrod Baptist Church and a veteran of the Army and World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen McIntosh and his parents, Issac and Annie McIntosh.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Janet Hall of Woodburn; four sons, Mr. Mike McIntosh of Dunmor, Mr. Dale McIntosh of Copperas Cove, TX, Mr. Tommy McIntosh of Michigan and Mr. Joe McIntosh of Falmouth, KY; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Christie of Dunmor, Mrs. Nadine Costellow of Lewisburg, Mrs. Dona Wood of Dunmor and Mrs. Mary Ann Stanley of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Price Funeral Home in Lewisburg. Burial will follow in Fitzhugh Cemetery in Lewisburg which is in Logan County.

Margaret Jean Penrod
Bremen - Mrs. Margaret Jean Penrod, 73, of Bremen died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Mrs. Penrod was born in Beech Creek on November 15, 1928. She was former owner and operator of Penrod Grocery Store in Bremen. She was a member of Church Street Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Penrod and her parents, Jim Bob Wilson and Louise Wilson.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Kincaid of Newburgh, Indiana and Karen Lear of Bremen; two grandchildren, Alex Kincaid and Lindsay Davis; and one sister, Ann McKinney of Central City.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Tom Carroll officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

George Alton Lear
Greenville - Mr. George Alton Lear, 69, of Greenville died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Maple Manor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Lear was born in Muhlenberg County on September 30, 1932. He was a retired coal miner at Peabody Coal Company. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed farming, fishing and spending time with his family. He was a veteran of the Navy.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Charlotte Stanley Lear of Greenville; two daughters, Donna Jean Griggs of Powderly and Verna Faye Lear of Flowery Branch, Georgia; two step-sons, Gary Pierce and Allan Whirley, both of Greenville; one granddaughter; two grandsons; one great-granddaughter; three step-grandsons; three sisters, Brenda West, Judy Horn and Carolyn Allen, all of Weir; four brothers, Jimmy Browning of Clifty, Virgil Browning of Weir, Alvie Lear of Greenville and Ernest Lear, Jr. of Granite City, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Pharris officiating. Burial followed in the Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

Max Sharrock Arnold
Hopkinsville - Mr. Max Sharrock Arnold, 76, of Hopkinsville died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Arnold was a native of Normandy, Tennessee and was born on September 20, 1925 to the late Jay G. and Annie L. Arnold. He wasa prominent area businessman. He was founder and chairman of the board of Max Arnold and Sons and Maxfuel Convenience Stores. Arnold attended the University of Tennessee on a football scholarship then left to serve in the Army during World War II. After his military service he attended Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro and was a Little All-American Football Player. He was recently inducted in the Middle Tennessee State University Hall of Fame. He moved to Auburn in 1951 where he owned and operated a Standard Oil Service Station. He moved to Russellville in 1961 and became a Standard Oil commissioned agent for Logan County. In 1966, he moved to Hopkinsville and became a Standard Oil commissioned agent for Logan, Todd and Christian counties. In 1979 he became jobber for all the above locations and also acquired counties of Hopkins, Union, Webster, Muhlenberg and McLean counties. In 1982, he acquired the jobbership of Caldwell and Trigg counties making Max Arnold and Sons LLC one of the largest jobberships in the state of Kentucky. In the 1990’s Max Arnold and Sons LLC acquired the Shell, Amoco, Phillips 66, Sunoco Racing Fuels and Ashland Oil jobberships. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past president of the Kentucky Petroleum Marketers Association, past president of the Chevron Petroleum marketers Association and was a member of a number of civic organizations. He was preceded in death by not only his parents but also one brother, Sherlock Arnold and a sister, Anne Rich.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 31, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Drs. Quentin Scholtz, Howard K. Willen and the Reverend Carmen King officiating. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery.
Hughart and Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville was in charge of all arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Pennyroyal Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church.

Betty R. Craig
Central City - Mrs. Betty R. Craig, 67, of Central City died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Owensboro Mercy Healthy System in Owensboro.
Mrs. Craig was born in Ohio on August 28, 1934. She was a housewife and a mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy in 1977.
Survivors include two sons, David Craig and Cathy of Greenville and William “Bill” Craig and Jacquline of Mississippi; three daughters, Kateria “Teri” Barnos and Steven of Central City, Mary Miller and Steve of Owensboro and Brandy Craig of Central City; two grandchildren, Brooke and Adam Craig; one step-grandson, Billy Barnes; one brother, Warren Roe of Centertown; and one sister, Gelita Little of Madisonville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City with Timmy O’Neal officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.
Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of all arrangements.

Ashley Brooke Stanfield
Gaston, S.C. - Infant Ashley Brooke Stanfield of Gaston, South Carolina died Monday, May 20, 2002.
Infant Stanfield was born in Lexington, South Carolina to Thomas and Tabitha Ball Stanfield.
Survivors include include her parents of Gaston, S.C.; paternal grandparents, Donald and Deloris Stanfield of South Carolina; maternal grandparents, Joseph and Sandra Ball of Bremen and Alberta Owens of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-grandparents, Halbert and Bertha Nelson of Bremen, Johnny and the late Mary Ball of South Carrollton; step-great-grandparents, J.T. and Frankie Williams of Graham; and aunt Amanda Ball of Bremen.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 24, 2002 in Southland Memorial Gardens.
Caughman-Harman Funeral Home Lexington Chapel in South Carolina was in charge.

Calvin Dunn
Sacramento - Mr. Calvin Dunn, 58, of Sacramento died Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at National Health Corp. in Madisonville.
Mr. Dunn was born in Muhlenberg County on August 28, 1943. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sue Harper Dunn of Sacramento; one son, Jay Dunn of Madisonville; two daughters, Lena Madison of Madisonville and Diana Dunn of Evansville; two step-sons, Joseph Dockendorf, Jr. of Kansas and Carol Reges of Oklahoma; one step-daughter, Reginia Wanner of Fort Knox; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one brother, Glen Dunn of Bremen; and four sisters, Donna Jean Lile of Bremen and Pauline Maple, Joyce Rumple and Lorene Penticuff all three of Newburgh.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with Reverend Danny Greene officiating. Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery in Bremen.

Marcus R. Bryant
Las Vegas, Nevada - Mr. Marcus R. Bryant, 89, of Las Vegas, Nevada, formerly of Drakesboro died.
Mr. Bryant was a World War II veteran as well as a former coal miner. The last few years he has lived in California and Nevada and was very active in his great-grandsons’ sports activities. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Everly Bryant.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra DeVries of Nevada, Beverly Powrozek and Linda Leeper of Indiana; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held on June 11, 2002 at 1 p.m. at Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro, Kentucky.
