Thomas Noffsinger Jr.

ROSEWOOD - Thomas Noffsinger Jr., 79, of Rosewood, died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born May 6, 1923 in Muhlenberg County, he was a member of Trinity Pentecostal Church and was a retired overhead crane operator. He had been employed at General Motors in Willow Springs, Ill. He was a veteran, having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gracy Carver Noffsinger; his parents, Thomas and Jodie Harper Noffsinger; one brother and two sisters.
He is survived by three sons, Edmond (Terry) Noffsinger of Leroy, Ill, Jackie (Juanita) Noffsinger of Campus, Ill. and Jim Noffsinger of Morton, Ill.; two daughters, Delores (Bill) Beasley of Gilbertsville, Ky. and Darnell (Don) Christerson of Dwight, Ill.; three stepsons, Windell (Janet) Mayes of Cherryville, Kan., Earl (Carolyn) Mayes and Carl (Lisa) Mayes, both of Greenville; 17 grandchildren; 19 great - grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; seven step great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, and funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, both at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will follow at Gish Cemetery in Bremen.

Mary Ellen Bowling

NASHVILLE - Mary Ellen Bowling, 79, of Nashville, died Sunday, April 20, at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a member of the Greenville Church of Christ. She was married for 54 years.
She is survived by her husband, Corbrey Howard Bowling of Nashville; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Doss of Powderly; and several nieces and nephews.
No visitation will be held. Graveside services and burial will be Tuesday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at Muhlenberg County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powderly. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Heart Fund. Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jonathan Derick Healy

Jonathan Derick Healy, 24, died Saturday, March 27, 2004.
He was a painter.
Survivors include a daughter, Savannah Healy of Central City; his father, John Healy of Central City; his mother, Debra Whitlow of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Kasie Healy of Greenville; a brother, Joel Thomas Healy of Phoenix; and a niece and a nephew.
Graveside funeral services were held April 3 at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro was in charge of arrangements.

William Howard Dwyer

BROWDER ­ William Howard Dwyer, 92, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 16, 1911, he was a retired coal miner and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neveline Dwyer in 1997.
Survivors include a son, William Ray (Phyllis) Dwyer of Central City; two daughters, Sandra (Donnie) Penrod of Greenville and Debbie (Barry) Warner of Bremen; a brother, Luther Dwyer of Beech Creek; eight grandchildren, Morris and Keith Dwyer, Michelle Snyder, Gary, Terry and Jonathan Penrod, Tina Lynn and Dorinda Thomasson; 12 great - grandchildren, Jordan, Jennifer, Destiny and Nikki Dwyer, Kelly and Jessie Snyder, Alyssa Penrod, Justin and Chloe Lynn, Dwayne Pendley and Andrew and Amy Arant; and one great great - grandchild, Brynlee Arant.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 1 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. George Stevens officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Pearl Hester Cook

BEECH CREEK ­ Pearl Hester Cook, 68, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Springfield, Tenn., Dec. 13, 1935, she was a homemaker and a member of the Beechmont Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Cook; a daughter, Luci Cook of Beech Creek; a brother, Garland Hester of Hopkinsville; and two sisters, Violet Berkley of Hopkinsville and Lucille Ruark of Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., April 2 at Tucker Beechmont Funeral Home with Darrell Puryear officiating. Burial followed in Rochester Cemetery in Rochester.

Benjamin Shelton

GREENVILLE ­ Benjamin Shelton, 69, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the Owensboro Medical Health System.
Born the son of the late Elgin and Rena Bard Shelton, he was retired from the Big River Electric Co - op in Sebree after 30 years of service. He was a member of the A.M.E. Zion Church, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Amvets Post 0075. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Elgin Shelton Jr., two sisters, Edna Rogers and Margaret Ann Shelton, and a daughter, Benita Renee Shelton.
Survivors include three daughters, Deborah Black and Bonnie Shelton, both of Owensboro and Diane Manuel of Hopkinsville; two sons, Donald Shelton of Jacksonville, Fla. and Anthony Johnson of Hopkinsville; a sister, Elsie McCravy of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; several great - grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., April 2 at the Wesley Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Greenville with Elder Dwayne Tutt officiating. Burial followed in Reynolds Cemetery in Greenville. Mason & Sons Funeral Home in Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.

Mae Garrett

GREENVILLE ­ Mae Garrett, 91, died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 29, 1912, to the late Edgar McDonald and Flora Allen McDonald, she was a member of Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Nebo and a nurse’s aid at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital before retiring. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eclas Garrett in 1977 and a son, Lindell Garrett in 1978.
Survivors include a son, Rodney (Lisa) Garrett of Henderson; a daughter - in - law, Rose Garrett of Greenville; four brothers, Charles McDonald of Evansville, Ind., Ray McDonald of Oakland, Calif., Lee McDonald of San Antonio, Texas and Billy McDonald of Stuart, Fla.; two sisters, Margie Watkins and Helen Harper, both of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Jeanetta House of Greenville, Chris Garrett, Sheri Lofland and Michael Garrett, all of Central City, Kimberly House of Beechmont, Lisa Ann DuCoff of Glasgow, Sara Garrett and Hannah Garrett, both of Henderson; and 11 great - grandchildren, Meaghann, Candace, Whitney, Chelsea, Tiffany, Jonathan, Tyler, Hannah, Caleb, Dalton and Nicholas.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 1 from Duvall’s Chapel General Baptist Church in Nebo with the Rev. Jerry Troutman and Bro. Joseph House officiating. Burial followed in Nebo Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ricky Wayne “Moon” Rust, Sr.

BELTON ­ Ricky Wayne “Moon” Rust, Sr., 49, died suddenly March 31, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital Emergency Room.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 25, 1955, to the late James Elwood “Woody” Rust and Anna Sue Roberson Rust, he was a farmer and a member of Boilermakers Union District 57 Local #455. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kevin Rust in 1961.
Survivors include his loving, life long companion, Barbra McPherson of Belton; his mother, Anna Roberson Rust of Ennis; two sons, Ricky Wayne Rust, Jr. of Central City and Joshua Keith McPherson of Belton; a stepson, Jermey Scott McPherson of Belton; two brothers, Dean Rust of Ennis and Barry Rust of Greenville; three sisters, Anne Martin of Belton, Lynn Rust of Ennis and Vicky Putman of Ennis; and two granddaughters, Madison McPherson and Kali Rust.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Kevin McGehee and the Rev. Gerald Beliles officiating. Burial followed in Hazel Creek Cemetery in Belton.

Amy Reathel Holland

Amy Reathel Holland, 95, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, March 17, 1909, she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Central City.
Survivors include three stepsons, Hugh Holland of Cadiz, Sam Holland and Keith Holland, both of Greenville; a stepdaughter, Wanda Mercer of Greenville; two sisters, Gladys Jones and Dean Noffsinger, both of Central City; 10 step grandchildren; several step great - grandchildren; and three step great great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., April 3 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis McGehee officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Leroy Gibson

GRAHAM ­ Leroy Gibson, 76, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Henderson County, Ky., May 2, 1927, the son of the late Wade Hampton Gibson and Canzadie Finn Reddish, he was a coal miner and of the Baptist faith. He was a farmer who loved to raise and work mules and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Zadie Mae Gibson in 1961.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Gibson; four sons, Roy (Bonnie) Gibson, Jerry Gibson and Joe (Angela) Gibson, all of Greenville, and Henry (Marsha) Gibson of Pickneyville, Ill.; three daughters, Dorothy Stewart and Marie (Stump) Munday, both of Greenville, and Helen (Donny) Smith of Graham; 26 grandchildren; 20 great - grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., April 3 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wingo officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Midland.

Marietta Perry

LOUISVILLE ­ Marietta Perry, 80, died Thursday, April 1, 2004 in Louisville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, June 18, 1923, to the late Elbert Therbert Hunt and Johnnie Hettie (Doris) Hunt, she was a cafeteria worker for Jefferson County Board of Education and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lee Perry Sr., and a son, Oscar Lee Perry Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanetta (Perry) Ellis of Roswell, Ga. and Barbara (Perry) Carney of Louisville; nine grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 3 at New Hebron Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Vaught officiating. Burial followed in New Hebron Cemetery in Muhlenberg County. Memorial contributions can be made to the New Hebron Cemetery Fund.

Herbert Leslie Koonce Jr.

BREMEN ­ Herbert Leslie Koonce Jr., 49, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Cook County, Ill., March 2, 1955, he was employed as a truck driver for Triple Z Trucking and a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Pearson Koonce; a son, Leslie Koonce of Bremen; a daughter, Elizabeth Jones of Herrin, Ill.; his parents, Herbert Sr. and Margaret Koonce of Bremen; a brother, Roger Koonce of Bremen; and a grandchild, Jeberechiah Jones.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., April 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Wilma Dean Stokes

NEW ALBANY, IND. ­ Wilma Dean Stokes, 77, formerly of Graham, died Friday, April 2, 2004 at Green Valley Care Center in New Albany.
Born Wilma Dean Noffsinger, the daughter of the late Clint and Clara Noffsinger, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Stokes.
Survivors include three children, Joy Taylor, Tony Stokes and Lynn Booker; seven grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., April 5 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Finley officiating. Burial followed in New Cypress Cemetery near Greenville.

Edna Earle Kennedy Dukes

GREENVILLE ­ Edna Earle Kennedy Dukes, 79, died Saturday, April 3, 2004 in the Belle Meade Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 1, 1925, the daughter of the late Robert Levander Kennedy and Era Lois Miller Kennedy, she was a homemaker and a member of Rosewood United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Floyd Dukes in 1989 and two sons, Jerry Lynn Dukes in 1962 and Russell Frederick in 1995.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Jim) Langley of Greenville and Sheila (Tommy) Knight of Central City; six sisters, Ida Ruth Vincent of Greenville, Jewell Phillips of Owensboro, Sue Walker of Sellersburg, Ind., Glenda Giddens of St. Augustine, Fla., Jane Moore of New Orleans, La. and Ann Wells of Trenton, Ky.; six grandchildren; and five great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., April 5 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Mooningham officiating. Burial followed in Rosewood Methodist Church Cemetery.

Frances Louise Gregory

GREENVILLE ­ Frances Louise Gregory, 88, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Aug. 24, 1915, she was a homemaker and a member of Green River Chapel.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Shanks of Greenville; a brother, Roy Nalley of Louisville; two sisters, Virginia Eady of Central City and Lorene Matzuka of Illinois; a grandson; two great - grandchildren; and one great great - grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., April 7 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.
