Koda Elijah Rector

MADISONVILLE - Koda Elijah Rector, 16, of Madisonville, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003.
Born April 21, 1986 in Henderson County, he was a student at Living Word Christian School in St. Charles and was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Lyndell Rector and maternal grandmother, Hilda Sneed.
He is survived by his parents, Eddie and Carol Rector of Madisonville; his sister, Kiona Shea Rector of Madisonville; paternal grandmother, Margie Rector of Beech Creek; maternal grandfather, J. C. Sneed of St. Charles; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Beshear Funeral Home in Dawson Springs with the Revs. Kris Page and Brad Payne officiating. Burial followed in Lake Grove Cemetery in St. Charles. Beshear Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Grover Cleveland Cox

OWENSBORO - Grover Cleveland Cox, 79, of Owensboro, formerly of Greenville, died Thursday, Feb. 20, at Wellington Park.
Born in Monticello, Ky., he graduated from University of Louisville Law School. He was a retired lawyer and a farmer and was a veteran, having served in World War II. He was a founder of Cliff Hagans Boys Club and an elder and Sunday School teacher at First Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Libby Cox in 1978 and a grandson, Jay Puckett in 1998.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Simpson Cox; one son, Grover Simpson Cox of Louisville; two daughters, Mary Yerington and Charlotte Puckett, both of Owensboro; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gaylord Cox of Lexington and Rev. Billy Joe Cox of Louisville; and two sisters, Catholene Pollock of Greenville and Jean Sumner of Owensboro.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at James H. Davis Funeral Home in Owensboro. Private burial followed in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Alzheimers Association, 3703 Taylorsville Rd., Suite 102, Louisville, KY 40220-1330 or Cliff Hagans Boys Club, 1517 E. 18th St., Owensboro, KY 42303. James H. Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Roy Allen Greene

BREMEN - Roy Allen Green, 64, of Bremen, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born Sept. 28, 1938 in Muhlenberg County, he was a registered pharmacist and was employed at Greenville Pharmacy. He attended Bethlehem Church.
He is survived by his wife, Fay Brown Greene of Bremen; one nephew, Freeman Brown of Bremen; two nieces, Kay Dehghanian and Anna Brown, both of Bremen; an uncle, Hubert Greene of Bremen; other aunts and uncles and several cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 23, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Effie Hightower

HOPKINSVILLE - Effie Hightower, 86, of Hopkinsville, formerly of the Stokes Chapel Community, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the Chapel House in Hopkinsville, of natural causes.
Born Dec. 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Otis Stokes and Ida Case Stokes, she was a lifelong member of the Stokes Chapel Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Weathers Hightower in 1970; two sons, Arthur Hightower in 1954 and Don Hightower in 2001.
She is survived by three sons, James Allen Hightower of Franklin, Ky., Jerry B. Hightower of Hopkinsville and Anthony Hightower of Guthrie; one daughter, Melvia Sears of Clifty; four sisters, Margie Hightower of Louisville, Elizabeth Porter of Sebring, Fla., Geneva Johnson and Carolyn Haley, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; ten grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial followed in Stokes Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stokes Chapel Cemetery Fund. Latham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gracie Dukes

LEWISPORT - Gracie Dukes, 87, of Lewisport, Ky., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, at Heartland Villa in Lewisport.
Born in Muhlenberg County, she was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by two sons, Ray Dukes of Evansville, Ind., and Roger Dukes of LaPorte, Ind.; four daughters, Elizabeth Bartlett of Beechmont, Barbara Cisney of Lewisburg, Jean Snow of Lewisport and Carol Ford of Yelvington, Ky.; 27 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 22, at Burns-Kish Funeral Home in Munster, Ind. Burial followed in Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, Ind. Burns-Kish Funeral Home in Munster was in charge of arrangements.

Cola Agee

CROWN POINT, IND. - Cola Agee, 87, of Crown Point, Ind., died Feb. 19, 2003, at the Chicagoland Christian Village in Crown Point after a short illness.
Born Feb. 25, 1915 in Logan County, the daughter of Thomas Scarbrough and Lonnie Ensco Scarbrough, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was Sunday School secretary for 43 years. She was a mother and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Agee in 1968; two stepsons, Elvis Agee and Buddy Agee; stepdaughter, Muriel Agee; and brothers, Warren Scarbrough, Everett Scarbrough and John Tracy.
She is survived by one son, Gerald Agee of Central City; one daughter, Janette (Kenneth) Brown of Crown Point; daughter-in-law, Frances Agee Davis of Austin, Texas; two grandsons, John (Teresa) Kmetz, Charles Kent (Judy) Agee; two granddaughters, Debra (John) Kozlowski and Shelly (Scott) Shahbaz; ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Amos (Marge) Scarbrough of Camby, Ind. and one sister, Nell Ciez of Munster, Ind.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 24, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Bob Kubasch officiating. Burial followed in Macedonia Cemetery in Rosewood. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lorine Mitchell

GREENVILLE - Lorine Mitchell, 87, of Greenville, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville after a lengthy illness.
Born May 19, 1915 in Beech Creek, the daughter of John Camplin and Nannie Tim Tucker Camplin, she was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie Lee Mitchell in 1988; a daughter, Norma Sue Jessup in 1983 and son, Layman Earl Mitchell in 1933.
She is survived by three grandchildren, Terry Gordon Jessup, Susan Michell Lyons and John Michael Jessup, all of Greenville; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Susanne Vincent, Amanda Sue Johnson and Trula Mikale Jessup, all of Greenville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Gary’s Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Walter Evitts officiating. Burial followed in Greens Chapel Cemetery in Greenville. Gary’s Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Donald David Boyd
Donald David Boyd, 59, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Owensboro Mercy Health System.
Born in Muhlenberg County, May 2, 1944, he was a retired coal miner.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Rainwaters Boyd; four sons, David Boyd of Greenville, Donald J. Boyd of Cromwell, Scott M. Boyd of Bremen and William C. Boyd of Central City; his mother, Ruby Boyd of Central City; two brothers, William E. Boyd of Central City and Gary Lynn Boyd of Sunside, Utah; a sister, Bertha Jernigan of Central City; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Feb. 20 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Leroy Rearden officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Central City.

Delia Mae Wolff

SHARON GROVE ­ Delia Mae Wolff, 92, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at Logan Memorial Hospital in Russellville of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, April 14, 1911, to the late Hermon Hall and Sue Belle Shemwell Hall, she was a homemaker and a member of Collier Springs Baptist Church. She was a foster parent to over 18 children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Burns Wolff in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbye Wright of Russellville; three sisters, Martha Nell Mansfield of Russellville, Verdene Harrison of Hopkinsville and Dorothy Spears of Auburn; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 20 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Joe Carrico officiating. Burial followed in Gant Cemetery in Todd County.

Miriam Fay Detweiler

TRENTON ­ Miriam Fay Detweiler, 30, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004 at her residence of natural causes.
Born in Washington County, Iowa, June 28, 1973, the daughter of Harlan and Edith Yoder Miller, she was a homemaker and a member of the Guthrie Amish Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Norman Ray Miller in 1975 and Melvin Miller in 1979.
Survivors include her husband, David Detweiler; her grandfather, David Yoder of Centreville, Mo.; two sons, Aaron Detweiler and Andy Detweiler at home; a daughter, Melissa Detweiler at home; four sisters, Mary Jane Miller of Belle Center, Ohio, Marilyn Yoder, Martha Yoder and Melva Miller, all of Crofton.
Funeral services were held at the Guthrie Amish Church with Bishop Daniel Beachy officiating. Burial followed in the Guthrie Amish Church Cemetery. Latham Funeral Home in Elkton was in charge of arrangements.

Wilma Jane Braden

MORTONS GAP ­ Wilma Jane Braden, 77, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at her residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, Jan. 21, 1927, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Leman Braden; four sons, Larry Campbell and Chester Campbell, both of Chicago, Randell Campbell of Wisconsin and Roger Campbell of Greenville; two daughters, Mary Campbell of Central City and Brenda Painter of Chicago; four stepsons, Leaman Otis Braden of Madisonville, Virgil Lee Braden of Greenville, Timothy Wayne Braden and James Earl Braden, both of Mortons Gap; five stepdaughters, Brenda Payton of Graham, Janice Hancock of Indiana, Anna Hancock of Mortons Gap, Debbie Guy of Madisonville and Vickie Craner of Dawson Springs; two brothers, Gerald Harper and James Harper, both of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 19 step grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Feb. 20 at Tucker Funeral Home with Mary Lou Nance officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Bremen.

Katherine “Kay” Cecil

VIENNA, ILL. ­ Katherine “Kay” Cecil, 82, formerly of Mayfield, Ky., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.
Born in Gus, Ky., Aug. 24, 1921, to the late Macon Gardner and Eula (Hunt) Gardner, she was a registered nurse and a devoted member of the Vienna First Baptist Church where she taught the Senior Ladies Sunday school class and was active in the Women’s Missionary Union. She had served as a missionary to China for 12 years. She was a member of the Lewisburg, Ky. Eastern Star Chapter. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Recey Cecil.
Survivors include her husband, James W. Cecil; a son, John Carlton Cecil of Vienna, Ill.; two daughters, Naomi Louise Capps of Vienna, Ill. and Kristina Shead of Murray; a sister, Carmon Perry of Dunmor; a brother, James Gardner of Dunmor; a grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 7 p.m., Feb. 18 at the Vienna First Baptist Church with Dr. William Mason, the Rev. Ken Bain and the Rev. Faris Sahawneh officiating. Burial took place at 10 a.m., Feb. 20 at the Cecil Chapel Cemetery in Mena, Ark.
Memorials can be made to the Vienna First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 727, Vienna, IL. 62995 or to the Baptist College of the Bible (Scholarship Fund) c/o Mid-Continent College, 99 Powell Road East, Mayfield, KY 42066.
Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, Ill. was in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Nell Pike

Dorothy Nell Pike, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County, July 26, 1924, she was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco and of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Pike and two sons, Billy and Bobby Pike.
Survivors include six daughters, Joyce Gregory and Debbie Hayes, both of Greenville, and Margaret Short, Barbara Pike, Beverly Hall and Darlene Nelson, all of Central City; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Feb. 21 at Tucker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Lowery officiating. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City.

Donald R. “Donce” Shanklin

ALLEGRE ­ Donald R. “Donce” Shanklin, 56, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at his residence of natural causes.
Born in Todd County, July 13, 1947, to the late Rob Shanklin and Thelma Fields Shanklin, he was a farmer and a member of the Bellview Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Shanklin; two daughters, Sandra Dossett of Elkton and Angela Sears of Sharon Grove; two brothers, Jug Shanklin of Hopkinsville and Eddie Shanklin of Allegre; three sisters, Marilyn Dossett, Cathy Segers and Joyce Shanklin, all of Allegre; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 21 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Tommy Wilhite and the Rev. Ron Melton officiating. Burial followed in the McColpin Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Relay for Life, c/o Nora Walker, 4639 Sharon Grove Road, Elkton, KY.

Stella Ilene Hampton

MAYFIELD ­ Stella Ilene Hampton, 78, formerly of Elkton, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 at Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Mayfield of natural causes.
Born in Butler County, Oct. 8, 1925, to the late Elzie and Lillie Mae Cardwell Taylor, she was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan Hampton in 1983.
Survivors include two sons, James Hines and Bobby Wayne Hampton, both of Drakesboro; a daughter, Helen Sue Waggoner of Drakesboro; four brothers, James Elize Cardwell, Jr., James Robert Cardwell and Floyd C. Cardwell, all of Hopkinsville and Jimmy D. Cardwell of Nortonville; a sister, Jennie Lee Hill of Benton, Ky.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m., Feb. 21 at Latham Funeral Home in Elkton with the Rev. Wendal McCord officiating. Burial followed in Glenwood Cemetery.
