James H. Mohon

SHARON GROVE ­ James H. Mohon, 71, of Sharon Grove, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville.
Born March 2, 1936 In Muhlenberg County he was the son the son of the late Sidney Johnson Mohon Jr. and Marva Wilburn Mohon. He was retired after 30 years with Ford Motor Co. in Lincoln Division. He was a Methodist and attended the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Lorion.
He is survived by his wife Loyola Stinson Mohon; one son, David E. Mohon of Sharon Grove; four daughters, Melissa Patton of Copemsh, Mich., Donna Kay Lorion of Clarkston, Mich., Sheila Lacy of Elkton and Beja Leine Picard of Sharon Grove; two brothers, Jerry Mohon of Cadiz and Larry Mohon of Russellville; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday, Aug. 30, at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Marty Heltsley officiating. Latham Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Hallie Dee Gillaspie

GRAHAM ­ Hallie Dee Gillaspie, 81, of Graham, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at the home of her daughter.
Born on Aug. 7, 1922 in Muhlenberg County, she was the daughter of Floyd Brown and Hettie Stovall Brown. She was a member of the East Union Baptist Church for 70 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, a training union leader and children’s missions leader. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Gillaspie, and daughter, Sandra Robinson.
She is survived by four daughters, Brenda (Gayle) Baggett of Greenville, Janice Strader of Graham, Libby (Tony) Knight of Sullivan, Indiana, and Sarah Morris of Campbellsville; three sisters, Bonnie Wright of Bremen, Clara Durall of Graham, and Barbara Jean Wilkins of Greenville; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 31 at Gary’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Wingo officiating. Burial followed in the East Union Cemetery.

James Darrell Griffin

CENTRAL CITY ­ James Darrell Griffin, 73, of Central City, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born June 22, 1930, in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired coal miner and a veteran of the US Army.
He is survived by two sons, Jeff Griffin of Owensboro and Glenn Griffin of Utica; two daughters, Leslie Ballard of Owensboro and April Nicole Griffin of Central City; three step - sons, Arthur Waddell of Central City, Gilbert Waddell of Wyoming and Victor Waddell of California; one step daughter, Kathy Waddell of Central City; four brothers, Jesse Griffin and Wendell Griffin both of Moorman, Dorris Griffin of Central City and Larry Griffin of Moselyville, Ky; three sisters, Betty Reed and Shirley Avery both of Moorman and JoAnn Beasley of Bremen; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Emmet LeGrand

CENTRAL CITY ­ Emmet LeGrand, 85, of Central City, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born March 22, 1918,in Muhlenberg County, he was a veteran of WW II, a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.
He was survived by his wife, Jean Pointer LeGrand; one son, David LeGrand of Greenville; three sisters, Irene Humphrey of Central City, Eva Mae Craig of Sacramento and Gladys Whitaker of Illinois.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Aug. 31 at Rose Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Ted Everly officiating. Tucker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Wanda Mae Morris

CENTRAL CITY ­ Wanda Mae Morris, 78, of Central City, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born in Muhlenberg County she was a homemaker and a member of the Green River Chapel General Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Morris.
Survivors include a son, Bennie Morris of Powderly; two daughters, Sue Oglesby of Powderly and Teresa Lovell of Greenville; two brothers, Donald Doss of Bremen and Pete Doss of Central City; two sisters, Jean Durall and Linda Doss, both of Central City; and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, Aug. 31 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Fairmount Cemetery.

Nadean Lear

BELTON ­ Nadean Lear, 64, of Belton, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital emergency room.
Born October 20, 1938, in Todd County, she was the daughter of Sidney Sweeney and Gracey Jones Sweeney. She attended the Belton-Beechmont Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband Isaac Glenn Lear; one son, Stevie Lear of Belton; one sister, Mevalean Greene of Cadiz; two grandchildren; and one nephew. Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 1 at the Belton-Beechmont Baptist Church with the Rev. James Roy Lear officiating. Burial followed in the Joines Chapel Cemetery. Gary’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Clinton Phillips

GREENVILLE ­ Lawrence Clinton Phillips, 79, of Greenville, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born May 5, 1924, in Fairbanks, Ind., he retired from American Oil Company as a Nationwide Oil and Gas Distributor after working 33 years. He was also a member of the First Assembly of God in Greenville and was a military veteran having served in the US Army.
He is survived by wife, Mary Nell Gregory Phillips; three daughters, Kimberly Rose Stawicki of Houston, Texas; Patricia Nell Krug of Lake Village, Ind. and Diana Lee Doup of Hammond, Ind.; a son, Larry J. Gregory of Chesterton, Ind.; one sister, Marjorie Courtney of Sullivan, Ind.; 15 grandchildren; 12 great ­ grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday Sept. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home. Burial followed in Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Powerdly.

Imogene Latham

LEXINGTON ­ Imogene Latham, 74, of Lexington, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at the Pimlico Manor in Lexington.
Born Dec. 7, 1928 in Muhlenberg County, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Guy Vincent and Estella Goble Vincent. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nelldean Vincent, Allie Marie Vincent and Martine Sorrells.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Earl Nicholas Latham; one son Earl Nicholas Latham II of Lexington; one granddaughter; three nieces; and a number of great nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Todd County Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Todd County Funeral Home in Elkton. Burial will follow at the Tabernacle Cemetery.

Lockie S. Vinson

CENTRAL CITY ­ Lockie S. Vinson, 96, of Central City, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the Muhlenberg Community Hospital.
Born Dec. 30, 1906 in Muhlenberg County, she was a 73 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Central City. She was also a life long member of the Central City BPW, where she received “The Woman of the Year Award” in 1992. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Vinson and brother, Howard Settlemires.
She is survived by two nephews, George Ewing Jr. of Mt. Vernon, Ind. and Glenn Houston Settlemires, of Pleasant View, Tenn.; and one niece, Lockie Lee Harris of Henderson; 18 great nieces and nephews and several great - great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Tucker Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.

Chester Methias Higgs

BREMEN ­ Chester Methias Higgs, 82, of Bremen, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
Born in Muhlenberg County, he was retired from sales at Nunn Milling Company in Evansville, Ind. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Higgs; three brothers, Robert Higgs, Leroy Higgs and Lester Higgs; and a sister, Dorothy Johnson.
He is survived by a daughter Lois Ann Woodall of Bremen; two sisters, Sue West of Sacramento and Shirley Vanover of Owensboro; two grandsons and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 1 at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City. Burial followed in Bethlehem Cemetery.

Willard Radney Barrow

SACRAMENTO ­ Willard Radney Barrow, 87, of Sacramento, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at his residence.
Born in Muhlenberg County, he was a retired self-employed carpenter and enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertie Barrow; second wife, Juanita Barrow; and son, Charles David Barrow.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Roger Barrow of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two daughters, Shirley Barrow of Bloomington, Ind. and Joyce Powell of Benoit, Miss.; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2 at Tucker Memorial Chapel in Sacramento. Burial followed in the West Union Cemetery in Sacramento. _Expression of sympathy make take the form of donations to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, 333 Guthrie Street, Suite 207, Louisville, KY 40202.

Lucy Katherine Dukes
DRAKESBORO ­ Lucy Katherine Dukes, 72 of Drakesboro, died Saturday, August 30, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born January 17, 1931 in Muhlenberg County. She was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Dukes and a brother Herschel Johnston.
She is survived by three sons, Dewey Joe Dukes, Paul Anthony Dukes and Austin Neal Dukes of Drakesboro; a daughter, Paula Kaye Dukes of Drakesboro; three brothers, Howard Johnston of Greenville, Billy Walton Johnston of Chicago, Ill. and Carroll Johnston of Madisonville; three sisters, Virginia Bell of Orlando, Fla., Linda Coin and Glenda Sue Mefford of Drakesboro; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 1, at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Ron Noffsinger officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetry.

Margaret Jean Harper

CENTRAL CITY ­ Margaret Jean Harper, 45 of Central City, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2003, at Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville.
Born October 2, 1957 in Jefferson County. She was a member of the Baptist Faith and a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband James Lee Harper; two sons, Tom Hayes of California and James David Harper of Central City; mother, Norma Shewsberry of Louisville; step-father, Joseph Shrewsberry of Louisville; brother, Joseph Shewsberry, Jr. of Louisville; sister, Wilma Atwell of Louisville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were private. Tucker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
