Barbara Whitham
Thursday, October 4, 2001
Barbara Whitham, formerly of Andover, died Wednesday, Sept. 19 at Kelso Pines Retirement Lodge, Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada.

She was the widow of John Whitham.

Members of her family include son, Bill, and his wife, Theo Whitham and a granddaughter, Lilly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General Hospital.

Arrangements were by Breckenridge-Ashcroft Funeral Home, Owen Sound, Ontario.

John W. Brennan
Thursday, October 4, 2001
John W. Brennan, 72, of Andover, died Thursday, Sept. 27 at Lawrence General Hospital.

Mr. Brennan was an engineering consultant for 43 years for Western Electric and AT&T, now Lucent Technologies, in North Andover.

Born in Lowell, he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947 and Northeastern University in 1967.

During the Korean War, Mr. Brennan served in the Air Force.

He was a member of the Lions Club in Andover and the Merrimack Valley Pioneers. He enjoyed playing tennis at Cedardale Health Club in Haverhill.

Members of his family include his wife of 43 years, Carol (Kalil) Brennan; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Louis P. Zambino of Methuen; sister, Eleanor Brennan Sullivan of Franklin; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Mark W. Brennan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140-1102; or a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements were by Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St., Methuen.

Marie E. Hoole

Marie E. (Kilbride) Hoole, 78, of Andover, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Tewksbury Hospital.

Mrs. Hoole retired from Fred C. Church Insurance Co. as an executive secretary.

Born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, she lived in Tewksbury for several years and later moved to Andover. She was a member of St. Augustine Church.

She was the widow of Charles A. Hoole. Members of her family include son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Christine Hoole of Dracut; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Maurice Gosselin of Lawrence, Charlene and James Sullivan of Tewksbury and Susan and Randall Poirier of Tewksbury; sisters, Rosemary Cady of Groton, Margaret Cunningham of Lady Lake, Fla., and Beatrice Connolly of Franklin; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were by Charles F. Dewhirst, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.

Charlene A. Muller
Thursday, October 11, 2001
Charlene A. Muller, 55, of Andover, died Monday, Oct. 1 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

For the past 20 years, Ms. Muller was a counselor for the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health.

Born in Lawrence, she graduated from Andover High School. She also attended the nursing program at Greater Lawrence Technical School in Andover.

She attended West Parish Church, where she was active with the church choir and the Sunday school.

Members of her family include her mother, Adeline M. (Lessard) Muller of Andover; niece, Caroline Muller of Hampton, N.H.; dear friend June C. Villers of Andover; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial contributions may be made to West Parish Church Building Fund, 129 Reservation Road, Andover, 01810; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

There were no calling hours. Arrangements were by Charles Dewhirst, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.

John R. Torres
Thursday, October 11, 2001
John R. Torres,72, of Methuen, died Wednesday, Oct. 3 at his home after a long illness.

Born and educated in Somerville, Mr. Torres worked in sales at Cablevision in Haverhill for 11 years. He was also owner and broker of Realty World in Andover, and worked more than 20 years in the leather business.

Mr. Torres was a member of St. Theresa Church. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Members of his family include his wife, Jean (Van Scyoc); sons, Richard J. Torres and wife Cathy of Andover, Michael E. Torres and wife Marie of Atkinson, N.H., and James E. Torres and wife Cheryl, Mark S. Torres, and Christopher D. Torres, all of Methuen; daughter, Susan J. and husband, Bill Morgan of Pelham, N.H.; sister, Evelyn Aguire of Haverhill; 11 grandchildren; and two nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice, 360 Merrimack St., Lawrence, MA 01843.

Dorothy A. Sullivan
Thursday, September 27, 2001
Dorothy A. (Randall) Sullivan, 77, of Andover, died Tuesday, Sept. 18 at Kindred Hospital in Peabody.

Mrs. Sullivan was a secretary for several companies in the Boston area and worked for Greater Boston Legal Services for several years until retiring in 1991.

Born and educated in Malden, she graduated from Malden High in 1942. She lived in Melrose from 1958 to 1992 and lived in Andover for the last nine years.

She was a member of the Andover Senior Center. She was also a member of St. Augustine Church in Andover and was a former member of St. Mary's Church in Melrose.

She was the widow of John A. Sullivan.

Members of her family include sons, John T. Sullivan and his wife Kamariah of California, William F. Sullivan and his wife Karen of Saugus, David R. Sullivan and his wife Rose of Malden, Robert J. Sullivan of Dracut, James E. Sullivan and his wife Candice of Dover and Thomas M. Sullivan and his wife Rebecca of Melrose; daughters and sons-in-law, Joan M. and Thomas Feeley of Andover, Barbara J. and Clifford Nicholson of North Billerica and Mary Ann and Christopher Bruce of New Bedford; sisters, Ruth Goodrick of Kansas and Lillian Larkin of Florida; 15 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association of Middlesex County, Box 265, Burlington, MA 01803.

F. Grant Waite
Thursday, September 27, 2001
F. Grant Waite, 61, of Andover and Wolfeboro, N.H., died Wednesday, Sept. 19 at home, after a brief battle with cancer.

Born in Montpelier, Vt., he spent his childhood at military bases throughout the United States. He graduated from Chambersburg (Pa.) High School, attended Penn State University and graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in accounting.

Mr. Waite joined the Honolulu office of the international accounting firm Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in 1963, transferred to the Boston office in 1966 and was admitted to the partnership in 1975. From 1975 to 1984, he was the partner in charge of the PBAS department and was instrumental in the development of the firm's practice for high tech and bio-tech start-ups.

In 1992, Mr. Waite opened up the Boston office of the New York City-based firm of Richard A. Eisner & Co. In 1998, BDO Seidman & Co. bought the Boston office and he became a partner and was there until his illness.

He served on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs, the Small Business Foundation of America, the New Hampshire High Tech Council, the New England Space Roundtable, the Professional Collaborative Group and the Southboro Organization for Schools.

He was also an avid sportsman who enjoyed boating and tennis. Over the last 10 years he attended several prominent tennis events including the US Open, Wimbledon, the French Open and the Australian Open.

He leaves behind Mary Coffey Moran of Andover and Wolfeboro; Carolyn L. Waite of Hebron, N.H.; daughters, Wendy of Forestville, Calif., Tracy of Quincy and Christy and her husband Allison Espy of Duluth, Ga.; sisters, Lyn Robinson of St. Thomas, Pa., and Winefred Cochran of Hudson, N.C.; brother, Burt of Cochranton, Pa.; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to F. Grant Waite Scholarship Fund, Massachusetts Society of CPAs, 105 Chauncy St., Boston, MA 02111.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro, N.H. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Wolfeboro.

Arrangements are by Dewhirst & Conte Funeral Home, 28 Florence St., Andover.
