Alfred J. Gagnon

LAWRENCE -- Alfred J. ''Freddie'' Gagnon, 88, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton.
Born in Salem, he was educated in Lawrence, where he lived most of his life. After retiring, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States.

Later he lived in Derry, N.H., during the summer and St. Petersburg, Fla., during the winter.

Mr. Gagnon had worked at General Electric in Lynn, and later owned Central Cafe in Methuen. He owned Freddie's Variety and Package store on Lowell Street in Methuen until his retirement.

He was also a member of the Better Business Bureau of Methuen. He was a member of the Methuen Knights of Columbus Council 4027, the Fourth Degree and International Order of Alhambra, Castile Caravan 63, and was a parishioner of St. Francis Church.

He leaves wife of 63 years Anna (Yanukonis); daughters Lorraine McClimans of Camillus, N.Y., Christine Magner of Atkinson, N.H., and Corinne Kerns of Angier, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral Mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Francis Church, followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen.

Arrangements are by Boles Memorial-Baron-McAuliffe-Yameen Funeral Home, Inc., 184 Jackson St., Lawrence.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Church Restoration Fund, 94 Bradford St., Lawrence, MA 01840.

Anne M. Hession
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
LAWRENCE -- Anne M. (Regan) Hession, 92, a longtime resident of Lawrence and Winchester, died Sunday at Sun Bridge of Broadway, Methuen.
Born in Lawrence, she attended St. Mary Grammar School and graduated from St. Mary High. She also graduated from Lowell State Teachers College.

Mrs. Hession was a teacher in Lawrence and Winchester grammar schools. She attended St. Augustine Parish on Tower Hill in Lawrence and St. Mary Parish in Winchester.

The widow of Frank C. Hession, she leaves daughter and son-in-law Judith Hession and Charles Green of Cambridge; sons David A. of Citra, Fla., Frank W. and wife Laura of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and James and wife Meredith of Ipswich; brothers John J. Regan of Rhode Island, Rev. James Regan of Illinois, and Maurice Regan of Rhode Island; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at John Breen Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 122 Amesbury St., Lawrence.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Augustine Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Lawrence.

Vera Kubik
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
NEWBURYPORT -- Vera (Hanavich) Kubik, 88, 171 Water St., died Friday morning at home.
Born in Russia, Mrs. Kubik worked at Gould Shawmut in Newburyport from age 16 to 63.

She leaves daughter and son-in-law Shirley and John Lowe of Bethesda, Md.; brother Charles Hanavich of Newman, Ga.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newburyport.

Arrangements were by Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.

Mario Andino Nieves
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
LAWRENCE -- Mario Andino Nieves, 45, 67 Springfield St., died Friday in a car accident in Marlboro.
He moved to Lynn in 1970 and to Lawrence in 1972 where he worked as a laborer in the textile industry until his retirement.

Mr. Andino loved to sing Puerto Rican music and play dominoes.

He leaves wife of 26 years Nilda Andino; daughters Carmen Andino of Brockton, and Marilyn, Madeline and Karilyn Andino, all of Lawrence; sons Mario Jr., Manuel and Angel Andino, all of Lawrence; sisters Maria Ruiz of Tampa, Fla., Carmen Andino and Nelida Andino, both of Puerto Rico; brother Hiram Andino of Lawrence; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at Farrah Funeral Home, 170 Lawrence St., Lawrence.

A Mass will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Asuncion de la Virgen Maria Church. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery.

Elisabeth A. Rock
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
NEWBURY -- Elisabeth A. (Costello) Rock, 76, 48 Central St., Byfield, died yesterday afternoon at home.
Born in Wakefield, she graduated from Wakefield High in 1938 and then from secretarial school in Boston.

Mrs. Rock was payroll secretary of Newbury and Salisbury school systems, and retired from Triton Regional High. She was a member of the Newburyport Golden Age Club.

The widow of Albert P. Rock, she leaves son and daughter-in-law David R. and Paula J. (Noury), and daughter and son-in-law Barbara J. and Lawrence J. Doyle, all of Byfield; sisters Margaret Allen of Hopedale and Marion Smith of Reading; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at Elliott, Woodworth & Rogers Funeral Home, 35 Green St., Newburyport.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 8 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Church, Main Street, Rowley. Burial will be in South Byfield Cemetery, Georgetown.

Carl A. Swanson
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
SEABROOK, N.H. -- Carl A. Swanson, 83, 11 True Lane, died Sunday at Rockingham Nursing Home in Brentwood.
Born in Dorchester, Mass., he was raised in Malden, attended Malden High and Lincoln Technical Institute, which was affiliated with Northeastern University.

Mr. Swanson worked as a welding manager and job cost estimator for Knowlton Iron Works in Everett, Mass., and later for Frederick Atherton Co. in Salem, Mass., for several years.

He lived in Wakefield, Mass. from 1941-68 before moving to North Reading, Mass., and then to Seabrook in 1970. Mr. Swanson was a member of Golden Rule Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Wakefield, East Gate Club, I.O.O.F. of Everett, and was a former member of the 9:29ers Banjo Club in Wakefield.

The widower of Ethel M. (Mullen), to whom he was married for 64 years and who died Jan. 27, he leaves son and daughter-in-law Donald E. and Vivian (Vlasuk) of Plaistow; daughter Linda M. Bradley of Harrisburg, Va.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.

Funeral and masonic services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

Helen B. Worthen
Tuesday, September 7, 1999
HAVERHILL -- Helen B. (Shaw) Worthen, 88, of Bradford, died Sunday at home from cancer.
Born in Bath, New Brunswick, Canada, in 1928 she graduated from Haverhill High, where she was top in her class and served as class secretary during her junior and senior years. She then graduated from Bryant & Stratton Secretarial School in 1932.

Mrs. Worthen worked in the Boston area as a teacher, bookkeepper and secretary for several years. She returned to the Haverhill area in the early 1950s and worked at Hoyt & Worthen Tanning Corp. until her retirement in 1969 when she moved to Newburyport.

For the past 70 years, Mrs. Worthen was instrumental in organizing her high school class reunions. She was a member of Groveland Congregational Church, Haverhill Golf & Country Club, the Leisure Hour Club, and was a former member of the Newburyport Historical Society.

The widow of Spencer L. Worthen, she leaves son and daughter-in-law Thomas Rush III and Mary of Bar Harbor, Maine; daughters Marilyn and husband Richard Mayor of Swampscott, and Judith Bologna of Bradford, with whom she made her home in recent years; brothers Hazen Shaw of Methuen and Leo B. Shaw of West Covina, Calif.; sister Louise Caless of Middleton; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dole, Childs & Shaw Funeral Home, 148 Main St., Haverhill.

Friends may gather at the funeral home Thursday at 9 a.m. to be followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at Groveland Congregational Church, 4 King St., Groveland. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Hampstead, N.H.

Ruth E. Buchikos
Friday, May 26, 2000
LAWRENCE -- Ruth E. Buchikos, 69, died Wednesday at Lawrence General Hospital.
She was born in Haverhill.

Ms. Buchikos was a homemaker.

She leaves sons Charles and wife Deborah of Panama City, Fla., William and wife Lesly of Ossipee, N.H., Richard of Jacksonville, N.C., and Andrew of Arson, Maine; sister Eliner Denanche of Haverhill; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was also mother of the late Donald Buchikos and Vesta Durgin.

Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are by Hart-Wallace Funeral Home, 107 S. Broadway, Lawrence.
