Bertha Valliere
Thursday, February 17, 2000
Bertha Valliere, 94, of Andover, formerly of Methuen, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Academy Manor Nursing Home.

Ms. Valliere was a burler for the American Wood Mills in Lawrence, and later became a secretary for a Waltham clothing company.

Born in Somersworth, N.H., she was educated in St. Ann Grammar School in Lawrence. She was a former parishioner of St. Ann Church in Lawrence.

Members of her family include her sister, Bella Rayola of Georgia; brothers, Clarence L. Valliere of Lawrence and Albert J. Valliere of California; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral Mass was said Saturday at Sacred Heart Church in Lawrence.

Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery in Lawrence.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Ruth Gordon
Thursday, February 17, 2000
Ruth (Levine) Gordon, 80, of Andover, formerly of Belmont, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, at her home.

Members of her family include her husband, Norman Gordon; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Robert Bornstein; son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Barbara Gordon; and grandchildren Matthew Bornstein, Johanna Gordon, Zachary Bornstein, Ilana Gordon and Adrea Gordon.

She was the sister of Larry Kasser, Lena Sklover, Honey Shepard, Aaron Levine, Molly Gardner, Gertrude Merliss, Israel Levine, and the late Jack Kasser.

Services, under the direction of the Levine Chapel, Brookline, were held at Temple Emanuel in Andover, last Friday, Feb. 11.

Burial was in the Chesed Shel Emeth of Chelsea Cemetery in Danvers. Rabbi Robert S. Goldstein from Temple Emanuel officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 97100, Dallas, TX 75397.

Mary C. Searles
Thursday, February 17, 2000
Mary C. Searles, 90, formerly of North Andover, died Friday, Feb. 11, at Academy Manor Nursing Home.

Born and educated in Lawrence, Mrs. Searles graduated from McIntosh Business School and worked as a secretary to Lawrence mayor James P. Meehan. She later worked in the city clerk's office, retiring in the 1960s.

Members of her family include her cousin, Marion F. (Weldon) Griffin of North Andover.

A funeral Mass was said Tuesday, Feb. 15, in St. Michael Church.

Burial will be private. Arrangements are by the John Breen Funeral Home, 35 Merrimac St.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Church Building Fund, 196 Main St., North Andover, MA 01845; or to Friends of St. Mary Church, DiFruscia Building, 260 Haverhill St., Lawrence, MA 01840.

Edith L. Sorrie

Edith L. Sorrie, 80, of Barre Town, Vt., and formerly of Andover, died Sunday, Feb. 13, at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vt.

Born in Lynn, she graduated from Saugus High School in 1937 as the class valedictorian. She then attended Jackson College for Women in Medford, and Framingham State College.

Mrs. Sorrie was a bookkeeper for a food wholesaler and Zayre's Department Store, as well as the tax collector for Fire District 5 in Barre Town.

She was a member of Barre Congregational Church, the women's fellowship of the church, where she had served on the Board of Deacons, Order of Eastern Star.

She was an adviser to Rainbow Girls in Andover.

Members of her family include her husband, Edward A. Sorrie; daughter, Barbara Downs of Hibbing, Mont.; sons, Bruce Sorrie of Southern Pines, N.C. and Donald Sorrie of Danbury, N.H.; and eight grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Friday, at 2 p.m. in Barre Congregational Church. Burial will be at a later date in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barre Congregational Church, Book of Remembrance, 35 Church St., Barre, VT 05641.

Dorothy Perkins

Dorothy (Glines) Perkins, 79, of South Newbury, N.H., died Friday, Feb. 11, at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Newport, N.H.

She was born in Andover. Members of her family include her husband of 52 years, Richard M. Perkins; sons Russell G. Perkins of Seattle, Wash., and David J. Perkins of Libby, Mont.; granddaughter, Amanda; brother, Arthur Glines of Methuen; sister, Priscilla G. Sturges of Hyannisport; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 14, at Chadwick Funeral Home, New London, N.H.

A memorial service and burial in South Newbury Cemetery will be held in the spring.

Veronica J. Cashman

Veronica J. "Bonnie" (O'Hagan) Cashman, 78, of Haverhill, died Monday, Feb. 14.

Mrs. Cashman worked for the Haverhill public school system for 20 years until she retired in 1985.

Born and educated in Andover, she graduated from Punchard High. She had lived in Haverhill since 1950, when she moved from Andover.

Mrs. Cashman was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish.

The widow of William J. Cashman, she leaves daughter and son-in-law Patricia A. and Ronald M. Cannon of Lynn; son and daughter-in-law Michael J. and Linda J. of Haverhill; sisters Rita C. Kelly of Haverhill and Josephine and Winifred O'Hagan, both of Andover; brothers John O'Hagan of Lawrence, and Edward O'Hagan of Andover; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at C. Frank Linnehan & Son Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill.

A funeral Mass will be said tomorrow, Friday, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, Haverhill. Burial will follow in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.

Ronald M. Valentine

Ronald M. Valentine, 82, of Andover, died Thursday, Feb. 17, at Wingate at Andover.

Mr. Valentine was the former owner of Valentine Florists and Valentine Real Estate in Andover.

Born in town, he served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Members of his family include his wife of 56 years, Flora (Raidy) Valentine; sons William T. Valentine and his wife, Jane, of Lawrence, and Ronald D. Valentine of Freedom, Maine; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Luis Hermosa of Andover; sister Edith St. Jean of Andover; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was private.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one's choice.

Michael T. Sullivan

Michael T. "Sully" Sullivan, 44, a longtime resident of Andover, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born in Methuen and raised and educated in Lawrence, he graduated from Greater Lawrence Technical School in 1973.

He loved to travel. He and his wife had traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States before having their children.

Mr. Sullivan loved animals, and enjoyed raising and collecting them.

He was an avid outdoorsman who had a passion and skill for archery.

He was especially fond of boats and was working on a special restoration project of a 1908 Dauntless at the time of his death. He had a real love for life and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

He was a skilled handyman who loved to work with his hands. He loved to cook for his family.

He especially enjoyed spending time with his daughters. He was a gifted metal sculptor who was recognized for his talent in local shows.

Mr. Sullivan worked as a millwright for Celus Corp. of Andover.

He leaves wife Mary-Jane Corry of Andover; daughters Corry and Kathleen Sullivan, both of Andover; father Thomas Sullivan and brother Mark, both Lawrence; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass was said Saturday at St. Joseph Church in Ballardvale.

Arrangements are by Charles F. Dewhirst, Edgerly & Bessom Funeral Home, 33 Pearson St., Andover.
