HARWICH PORT - Elizabeth A. (Lahiff) Murphy, 78, a longtime summer resident of Harwich Port, died yesterday at the Symmes Hospital, Arlington. She was the wife of the late Dr. John P. Murphy. Mrs. Murphy was born in Lowell. She worked as registered nurse after graduating from Symmes Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Murphy worked at Symmes Hospital and Longwood Hospital in Jamaica Plain. She was a member of the Wychemere Harbor Club in Harwich. Surviving are two sons, John P. Murphy of Newport Beach, Calif., and Paul F. Murphy of Boston; three daughters, Ann E. Peckham of Boston, Frances M. Ratto of Needham and Mary L. McDonald of Lexington; a sister, Frances Cummings of Arlington; a brother, John Lahiff of Arlington; and three grandchildren. Visiting hours are 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow in the George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, Needham. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Sacred Heart Church, Newton Centre. Nicholas LoRusso, 85
Retired factory foreman; enjoyed gardening, fishing
ORLEANS - Nicholas Mario LoRusso, 85, a retired factory foreman, died Wednesday at Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Community-Manor, Hyannis, after a short illness. He was the husband of Frances (Marino) LoRusso. Mr. LoRusso was born and raised in Waterbury, Conn., and graduated from Crosby High School there. He worked as a foreman in the rolling mills of the former Chase Brass and Copper factory in Waterbury for 47 years. Mr. LoRusso formerly owned and operated a Texaco gas station in Waterbury in the late 1940s and was a partner with his two brothers-in-law in Marino's Sand and Gravel in Terryville, Conn. He retired to West Yarmouth in the early 1970s and moved to Orleans a year ago. Mr. LoRusso enjoyed gardening and fishing. He loved to fix things, and his grandchildren were never without working bicycles. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Anthony L. LoRusso of Wolcott, Conn., and John L. Lo-Russo of Apocka, Fla.; two daughters, Virginia L. Barrachina of East Orleans and Margaret L. Garthwait of Woodbury, Conn.; five grandsons; two step-granddaughters; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Church, Canal Street, Orleans. Herbert Harvey Jr., 81
Active in bartenders union; Youth Services supervisor
DENNIS - Herbert Erwin Harvey Jr., 81, a former bartender, died yesterday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was the husband of Florence J. (Shipman) Harvey. Mr. Harvey was born and raised in Worcester, where he graduated from St. John's High School and lived most of his life. Mr. Harvey moved to Dennis in 1985. He was a bartender in the Worcester area for many years and was active in the Bartenders Union by serving on the board of trustees. Mr. Harvey was a supervisor for the Department of Youth Services in Worcester for 10 years, retiring in the mid-1970s. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster and a member of the Hyannis Lodge of Elks. Mr. Harvey was a former member of the Worcester Lodge of Elks. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter-in-law, Joyce Harvey of Dennis; two brothers, Howard Harvey of Worcester and Leslie Harvey of Boston; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. NAPLES, Fla. - Lillian D. Renehan, 95, formerly of Barrington, R.I., died July 7, at the Heritage Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Naples. She was born in Providence, R.I. She leaves two daughters, Pearl R. Rameika of Truro and Dorothy R. Moore of Naples; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Russell J. Boyle and Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, R.I. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon at St. Casimir Church, Smith Street, Providence. Burial will be at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence.

Esther Asper, 89
Immigrated from Norway; worked as practical nurse
CHATHAM - Esther (Henriksen) Asper, 89, who leaves a son in Chatham, died Saturday at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care Manor in Hyannis after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Reidar Asper, who died in 1988. Mrs. Asper was born in Oslo, Norway, where she was raised and educated. She immigrated to the United States at age 16 and married in 1933. Mrs. Adams lived in Norwood for a brief period and then moved to New York City where she was a practical nurse in New York City hospitals. Mrs. Asper and her family had been summer residents of Cape Cod for many years. She moved to Chatham in 1994. She is survived by one son, Knut Asper of Chatham. Burial will be private in Highland Cemetery in Norwood.

William Adams, 81
Veteran; retired from paper companies; born in Wales
LEOMINSTER - William G. Adams, 81, who leaves a son in West Yarmouth, died Saturday in The Highlands, Fitchburg, after an illness. He was the husband of the late Marie D. (Smith) Adams, who died in 1989. Mr. Adams, formerly of Leominster, was born in Pontypridd, Wales. He was a retired beater operator and worked a total of 37 years at three Fitchburg paper companies: Crocker Burbank Co., Weyerhaueser Paper Co., and the James River Paper Co. Mr. Adams was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force, serving in Europe. He leaves two sons, Barry E. Adams of Fitchburg and Philip A. Adams of West Yarmouth; a brother, Raymond Adams of Lunenburg; and five grandsons, three great-grandsons and two nieces. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Bourne tomorrow. Scott W. DeVoe, 47
Navy Vietnam veteran; employed as welder
MASHPEE - Scott W. DeVoe, 47, a Navy veteran who worked as a welder, drowned July 13 in an accident at Bunk Pond in Taunton. Born in Boston, Mr. DeVoe grew up in Canton and graduated from Canton High School. He lived in Mashpee at the time of his death. Mr. DeVoe served four years in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his parents, Warren H. and Audrey E. (Flint) DeVoe of Mashpee; and two brothers, Robert DeVoe of Taunton and Mark DeVoe of Canton. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Leslie Ann Flood, 49
Licensed practical nurse; leaves family on Cape
FALMOUTH - A memorial Mass will be held tomorrow for Leslie Ann Flood, 49, a licensed practical nurse, who died unexpectedly July 16 at her Falmouth home. The Mass is at 4 p.m. at Saint Patrick's Church, Main Street, Falmouth. Burial will be private. Born in Boston, Ms. Flood was raised in Weymouth and Falmouth, and also lived in Revere. She graduated from Upper Cape Regional Technical High School in Bourne, where she stud-ied to become an LPN. She worked as an LPN at the Holbrook Manor Nursing Home in Brockton. She is survived by a son, Corey R. Flood of Falmouth; her father, John M. Hammers of Falmouth; a brother, John Hammers of Plymouth; two sisters, Deborah Hammers of Plymouth and Dawna Hammers of Hingham; and two close friends, Andrea Estabrook and Elaine Dombrowski, both of Falmouth. Frederick Bentley, 82
Owned home decorating business; retired to Dennis
HARWICH - Frederick W. Bentley, 82, a retired business owner who enjoyed gardening and woodworking, died Sunday at Cranberry Pointe Nursing Home following a long illness. He was the husband of Lillian (Manning) Bentley. Born and raised in Newton Centre, Mr. Bentley graduated from Newton High School. He lived in Newton until 1970 when he moved to South Dennis. He was there until entering Cranberry Pointe in April 1992. Mr. Bentley worked with his father for many years in the family's home decorating business in Newton and Wellesley, eventually becoming owner and operator of the business. He retired shortly after moving to South Dennis. During World War II, Mr. Bentley worked in the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Marcia Dinneen of Bridgewater and Susan Chiriboga of East Granby, Conn.; a sister, Jane E. Bleakney of Newton Centre; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a niece. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. WEST DENNIS - Elinor J. (Kelly) Healy, 95, a longtime Dennis resident, died Monday at Eagle Pond Nursing Home, South Dennis, after a long illness. She was the wife of Edward J. Healy, who died in 1987. Mrs. Healy was born in Boston and raised in Swampscott and Lynn. She lived in Louisville, Ky., where she graduated from St. Catherine's School. After marrying, Mrs. Healy moved to Belmont and lived there for 25 years before moving to West Dennis in 1964. She was a communicant of St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth. Surviving are two daughters, Marie Healy of Boston and Katherine A. Hassey of South Yarmouth; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. HARWICH - Edla Matilda (Koski) Raila, 87, a longtime Harwich resident, died Monday at her home. She was the wife of Sulo T. Raila, who died in 1956. Mrs. Raila was born in Rockland, Maine, and graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester. She also attended business school in Worcester. Mrs. Raila lived in Worcester from 1914 until the mid-1950s when she moved to Boston. She moved to Harwich in 1974. Mrs. Raila enjoyed traveling and needlecraft. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of West Barnstable. Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Raila of Harwich; and several nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Post Junior College in Waterbury, Conn., and worked as a secretary for McShea Associates, Claims Adjusters, for 10 years in Cinnaminson, N.J. She was a resident of Delran, N.J., from 1971 until she moved to West Barnstable in July 1996. Surviving besides her husband are three children, Debbi L. Loscalzo of Clifton Park, N.Y., Cheryl A. McAvaddy of Hillsborough, N.J., and Robert J. Robidoux Jr. of Clifton Park; one brother, Daniel H. Goodell of Connecticut; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Former Chatham resident; owned Samantha's Dress Shop
EASTON - Marjorie L. (Brown) Carter, 82, a former Chatham resident and dress shop owner, died yesterday at the Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Carlton Carter. Mrs. Carter was born in Brockton and raised in England. She moved back to the United States, settling in Providence, R.I., in the early 1930s. Mrs. Carter graduated from Leslie College in 1936 and worked at the Minden Hotel in Providence for several years. She lived in Warwick, R.I., and Natick before moving to Chatham, where she owned and operated Samantha's Dress Shop. Mrs. Carter was living in Easton at the time of her death. She also lived in Sarasota, Fla., and Brockton. Surviving are three sons, Bruce R. Carter of Durham, N.H., Stephen R. Carter of Concord and David C. Carter of Easton; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Robert J. Kane Funeral Home, Easton. Industrial engineer; longtime Dennis resident
SOUTH DENNIS - C. Marsh Proctor, 87, a retired industrial engineer and longtime Dennis resident, died July 17 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Edna M. (Johnson) Proctor. Mr. Proctor was born in Brookline. He was an industrial engineer at the Norton Co. in Worcester, retiring in the 1960s. He lived in Holden for most of his life and in Webster for a short time before moving to South Dennis in the 1960s. Mr. Proctor was a member of Mt. Horeb Lodge AF & AM and the Knights of Mt. Pythias in West Dennis. He was a collector of railroad memorabilia and he enjoyed restoring antique cars. Surviving besides his wife is a sister, Elizabeth Flaherty. Andrew Geissler, 66
Native of Germany; retired commercial artist
OSTERVILLE - Andrew Geissler, 66, a retired commercial artist, died Tuesday at Hospice House in Barnstable. He was born in Geislingen, West Germany. Mr. Geissler immigrated to the United States at age 17 to complete his education at a New York college. He later became a U.S. citizen. He traveled the world for two years after graduating from college, spending an extended period in India and China. Mr. Geissler settled in Honolulu, where he lived for 40 years. He moved to Osterville in 1993. Surviving is a half-brother, Alexander Geutsch of Germany. A memorial Mass will be scheduled for a later date.

Warren E. Geoffrion, 74
Former Yarmouth resident; naval engineer; builder
WELAKA, FLA. - Warren E. Geoffrion, 74, a former South Yarmouth resident who leaves a son in Brewster, died July 12 at Columbia Putnam Medical Center in Palatka, Fla. He was the husband of Doris J. (West) Geoffrion. Mr. Geoffrion was born in Westfield, Mass., and raised in Springfield. He moved to Welaka 17 years ago. He served as an engineer in the Navy for eight years. Mr. Geoffrion moved to South Yarmouth in 1962. He was a self-employed builder who later worked as a maintenance man at Angelo's supermarkets all over Cape Cod. An avid golfer, Mr. Geoffrion was a member of Bass River Golf Course in South Yarmouth. Surviving besides his wife are five sons, Raymond Geoffrion of Brewster, Martin Geoffrion of Hawthorne, Fla., Donald Geoffrion, Scott Geoffrion and Alan Geoffrion, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; four daughters, Holly Henry of Savannah, Ga., and Barbara, Virginia and Carol Geoffrion, all of Jacksonville; a brother, Lorin Geoffrion of Cape Cod; a sister, Lorraine Carbone of Stafford, Vt.; and seven grandchildren. Robert E. Lloy, 76
Decorated WWII veteran; machine tool designer
YARMOUTHPORT - Robert E. Lloy, 76, a retired machine tool designer, died Monday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis. He was the husband of Anna (Fleming) Lloy. Mr. Lloy was born in Peabody and raised in Somerville. He graduated from Franklin Technical Institute. He was a technical sergeant in the Army Air Force, 94th bombardment group, during World War II and was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross Air Medal with four oak leaf clusters and a presidential citation. He worked at Blanchard Machine Co. for 30 years and retired from Packaging Industries in Hyannis. He was a member of the Mt. Horeb Lodge and Royal Arch Chapter Masonic Lodge in Woburn and the XII:XII Masonic group of Cape Cod. He belonged to the Highland Light Scottish Society and the First Congregational Church in Yarmouthport. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Lorraine Wells of Windsor, Conn., and Beverly Lloy-Schmitt of Gackenbach, Germany; a son, Robert E. Lloy Jr. of Edgartown; three sisters, Eleanor Goodwin of Somerville, Marion Malone of Santa Ynez, Calif., and Jeanette Kotowski of Sheffield Lake, Ohio; and nine grandchildren. EAST FALMOUTH - Madeline M. (Rossman) Volk, 88, a longtime Falmouth resident, died Tuesday at Falmouth Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of Leo F. Volk for more than 68 years. Born and raised in Roslindale, Mrs. Volk graduated from Jamaica Plain High School in 1927. For several years she worked as a secretary for the United Business Co. of Boston. A part-time resident of East Falmouth since 1922, Mrs. Volk moved there permanently in 1969 from Dedham. She was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Falmouth. Mrs. Volk was a volunteer and active member of the Falmouth Senior Citizens Center. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Marie E. SOUTH YARMOUTH - Anna R. McGivney, 94, a retired bookkeeper, died Monday at her home in South Yarmouth. Born in County Cavan, Ireland, she moved to the United States at the age of 6. Miss McGivney lied in Newton Highlands for 35 years and moved to South Yarmouth in 1975. She retired in 1969 after working for 40 years as a bookkeeper for the Forte Dupee Sawyer Co. in Boston. Surviving are a sister, Margaret Smith of Ireland; a niece, Rosemary Keough of Weymouth; and many other nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today in the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth. Retired Worcester teacher; leaves brother on Cape
WORCESTER - Doris M. Joyce, 81, a retired public school teacher who leaves a brother in Harwich Port, died Tuesday in St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. She was born in Worcester and lived there all her life. She graduated from North High School in Worcester and received a bachelor's and master's degree from Worcester State College in Worcester. Miss Joyce was a public school teacher for 52 years. She taught English in Worcester Public Schools for 46 years, retiring in 1994. She previously taught in Leicester. She was a director and choreographer of dance and musical stage productions for many years in schools and in the greater Worcester area. Miss Joyce was a longtime volunteer at St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. Surviving are two brothers, John F. Joyce III of Harwich Port and William J. Joyce of Worcester; three nieces; and two nephews. Retired machinist; Army veteran of World War II
CENTERVILLE - John J. Hanson, 81, a retired machinist, died Wednesday at his home. He was the husband of Effie B. (Washburn) Hanson. Mr. Hanson was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School. Mr. Hanson moved to Harwich in 1984 from Shrewsbury. He moved to Centerville in 1989. Mr. Hanson served in Normandy in the Army during World War II. He worked as a machinist for Norton Company in Worcester for several years and for George Meyer Company from 1956, retiring in 1979. Mr. Hanson was a member of the VFW Post 2578 in Hyannis and the Engelbrekt Men's Club in Worcester. He was a member of the Scandinavian-American Club in Shrewsbury and the Worcester Area Associates of Cape Cod. Mr. Hanson was a member of Tamarac Civic Association in Florida. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors and music. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, David Hanson of Hyannis and Robert Washburn of Coral Springs, Fla.; a daughter, Judith A. Loretta Jorgensen, 79
Hospital school secretary; moved to Cape in 1978
YARMOUTHPORT - Loretta Jorgensen, 79, a retired secretary, died Wednesday at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was the wife of the late John Ellis Jorgensen. Mrs. Jorgensen was born in Boston and raised in Milton. She moved to Canton in 1954 and retired in 1978 after having worked as a secretary at the Massachusetts Hospital School. In 1978 Mrs. Jorgensen moved to Yarmouthport where she was a member of St. Pius X Church and the Solos group in Yarmouth. Surviving are a son, John Eliot Jorgensen of Sarasota, Fla.; a daughter, Cindy C. Peterson of Yarmouthport; a brother, Theodore Warsheski of Dennis; and two grandchildren. Visiting hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. The funeral will form at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow at the funeral home followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, South Yarmouth. Burial will be private. William L. Walski, 62
Owned custom lamp shop; data processing manager
YARMOUTHPORT - William L. Walski, 62, owner of Boston Brass Works in Dennis, died unexpectedly Wednesday at his home in Yarmouthport. He was the husband of Patricia (Weeden) Walski. Mr. Walski was born and raised in Seymour, Conn. He was a graduate of Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Conn. Mr. Walski lived in Hamden for most of his life before moving to Yarmouthport in 1992. He owned a home in Yarmouthport for 27 years. Mr. Walski owned Boston Brass Works, an antique and custom brass lamp shop in Dennis, for the last four years. Before that he was a data processing manager for several companies in Connecticut. Mr. Walski was an avid sailor and member of the Dennis Chamber of Commerce. Frank Frazier Jr., 89
Retired caretaker for Oyster Harbors estate; horticulturist
SOUTH SANDWICH - Frank Frazier Jr., 89, a retired estate caretaker, died Wednesday at Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Centerville. He was the husband of Mary (Perry) Frazier. Mr. Frazier was born and raised in Santuit, where he lived until moving to South Sandwich 20 years ago. He was an estate caretaker for the DuPont estate in Oyster Harbors for 49 years, retiring in 1973. Mr. Frazier was an avid horticulturist. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Gloria M. Davidson of Hyannis and Francis L. Frazier of Santuit; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Margot Johnston, 86
Former actress, director; staged Chatham productions
ORLEANS - Margot (Lassner) Johnston, 86, a former actress, died Sunday at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, after a long battle with emphysema. She was the wife of Alexander F. Johnston. Mrs. Johnston was born in Germany and escaped the Holocaust by emigrating to South Africa ahead of her parents, both of whom were killed at Auschwitz. She was trained at the State Theater School in Berlin, Germany, under Leopold Jessner before fleeing Germany. Mrs. Johnston became a staff member of the South African Broadcasting Corporation in Johannesburg. While living there she directed community theater. Mrs. Johnston moved to Canada after the war, acting in television, radio and on stage. She wrote and delivered commentaries on Canada and interviewed Canadians for CBC's international programs. After living in Canada for several years Mrs. Johnston married and moved to New York. She appeared in three Broadway plays and acted and directed summer stock on Long Island. She settled on the Cape several years ago and directed two plays for the Chatham Drama Guild. Mrs. Johnston also operated the Village Players. Barbara Allison, 72
Lifelong P'town resident; enjoyed singing, bowling
PROVINCETOWN - Barbara (Alexander) Allison, 72, a lifelong Provincetown resident, died Sunday in her home of lung cancer. She was the wife of the late William Allison. Mrs. Allison was born in Province-town and lived there for most of her life. She graduated from Prov-incetown High School in 1943. She worked at several establishments in Provincetown: Brownell's Pharmacy, Wong's Restaurant, the Atlantic House, the Old Colony, Tips for Tops'n, Metamorphosis and most recently at the Lobster Pot. She retired in 1993. While a bartender at the Atlantic House, Mrs. Allison sang with renowned pianist Julius Monk, who asked her to come to New York to sing professionally. But her love of Provincetown kept her here. Mrs. Allison loved to read and cook. She was an avid MacMillan Wharf fisherman. She won many bowling trophies and appeared twice on Bowling for Dollars from Boston. Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Paulman of Provincetown; a brother, Victor Alexander of Provincetown; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 1 in St. Peter's Cemetery. Eugene Herman Koenig
Retired engineer; active in Dennis community affairs
DENNIS - Eugene Herman Koenig, a retired engineer, died Tuesday at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center in South Dennis. He was the husband of Georgette S. Koenig. Mr. Koenig was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and was also educated in Germany. He came to the United States in 1931. He worked for the engineering firm of Kueffel and Esser of Hoboken, N.J. for 35 years. He later worked for Engineering Inc. of Newark, N.J., for 10 years. Mr. Koenig became a summer resident of Dennis in 1959, retiring there in 1975. He was active in community affairs, was a member of the Dennis planning board for 15 years and was the architect and clerk for the building of the Dennis Senior Center. Mr. Koenig served as vice president of the Friends of Dennis Seniors for 15 years. He was also involved in the design of the Museum of Fine Arts in Dennis. He was a member of Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster. Mr. Koenig loved classical music and the opera and was an avid gardener. Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Barbara O'Connor of Upper Saddle River, N.J. He was the father of the late Georgette Kruppo. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Our Lady of the Cape Church, Brewster. Burial will be private.

Mary Ann Slongwhite, 73
Native of Cotuit; former elementary school worker
JAFFREY, N.H. - Mary Ann (Doane) Slongwhite, 73, a Cotuit native, died yesterday at the Monadnock Community Hospital, Peterborough, N.H. She was the wife of Stanley A. Slongwhite, who died in 1977. Mrs. Slongwhite was born in Cotuit and gradauted from Barnstable High School in 1941. She married and moved to East Princeton before moving to New Hampshire in 1975. Mrs. Slongwhite was a resident of Gilmore Court since 1989. She worked at the Rindge Elementary School and the Cathedral of the Pines. Mrs. Slongwhite did volunteer work with the Jaffrey Meals-On-Wheels for five years and was a member of the First Congregational Church and Society in Rindge, N.H. Surviving are a brother, Robert M. Doane of Boynton Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Barbara D. Belleman of Boynton Beach, Fla., Elinor F. Chase of Fremont, Calif. and Ruth D. Crocker of South Harwich; a foster son, Peter Lynch of Orange Park, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 2 in the First Congregational Church, Rindge, N.H. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Rindge, N.H. Peggy E. Hall, 78
Native of England; served in Royal Navy; secretary
HARWICH PORT - Peggy E. Hall, 78, a longtime resident of Harwich Port, died Monday at her home after a long illness. She was the wife of Donald E. Hall. Mrs. Hall was born in Ilford, Essex, England, and graduated from high school there. She served in the Royal Navy as a WREN, a member of the women's corps, where she did office work. She moved to the United States in 1946 and married in 1947. Mrs. Hall had lived in Harwich Port for the past 50 years. She worked at Morgan's Clothing Store and at the Harwich Town Hall as a secretary to the town nurse. Mrs. Hall was also a secretary for her daughter at La Melodia Academy of Dance in Harwich Port. She volunteered at the Albro House in Harwich and was an active member of the Harwich Women's Club and the Harwich Garden Club. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Melody Hall of Harwich; a sister, Roslyn Deykin of Ilford, Essex, England; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of Craig Duncan Hall, who died in 1968. Services are private. Merton M. Levine, 87
Retired Maine cattle dealer; worked at Stop&Shop
WEST YARMOUTH - Merton M. Levine, 87, a retired cattle dealer, died Saturday at the Cape Cod Hospital Extended Care - Pavilion in Hyannis. He was the husband of Irene S. (Manza) Levine. Mr. Levine was born in Waterville, Maine, where he lived until he moved to West Yarmouth 26 years ago. In Waterville he raised his own cattle and was a cattle dealer. He retired in 1965. Mr. Levine worked at the Stop&Shop in Hyannis and also for the Electrolux company. He was a member of the Cape Cod Synagogue and an associate member of Hadassah. Surviving are a daughter, Donna Levine Hirshberg of Yarmouthport; a brother, Dr. Ralph W. Levine of Lexington; three sisters, Patricia Levy and Janet Dalis, both of New York, and Zeta Levine of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the Cape Cod Synagogue, 145 Winter St., Hyannis. A memorial observance will be held in the evening tomorrow and Wednesday at his daughter's home in Yarmouthport. Clayton B. Carlson, 62
Doctor of chiropractic; Korean War Army veteran
WAREHAM - Clayton B. Carlson, 62, a doctor of chiropractic, died Saturday at his home after a long illness. He was the husband of Dianne E. (DeArruda) Carlson. Mr. Carlson was born in Wenatchee, Wash. He served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska where he was a dental assistant during the Korean War. He graduated from Palmer Chiropractic School and practiced in Shrewsbury before moving to Falmouth. While residing in Falmouth, Mr. Carlson was a member of the Falmouth Jaycees and a fourth-degree Kung Fu Black Sash and an instructor at the USA Kung Fu Training Center in Mashpee. He was also a member, elder and Pathfinder Leader at the Cape Cod Seventh Day Adventist Church in Osterville. Mr. Carlson moved to Wareham in 1972. He served as a deacon and Pathfinder Leader at the Middleboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, and was past president and member of the Wareham Kiwanis Club. He was also instrumental in starting the Gonstead Chiropractic Method Workshop in Middleboro, which is the method he practiced. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Richard Hill of Butler, Pa., and Harold Hill and Terry Hill, both of Tonasket, Wash.; one daughter, G. Dawn McAssey of Wareham; two stepsons, Steven Sleeper of Buzzards Bay and Ronald Almeida of Plymouth; one stepdaughter, Dawn Goodman of Buzzards Bay; one sister, Phyllis Davies of Wenatchee, Wash.; one brother, Monte Carlson of Wenatchee; and eight grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Stott, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28) Wareham.

Mildred E. Cook, 88
Active in Girl Scouts; leaves daughter in South Yarmouth
WHITINSVILLE - Mildred E. (Lewis) Cook, 88, who leaves a daughter in South Yarmouth, died Saturday at St. Camillus Nursing Home after an illness. She was the wife of Burnam R. Cook Sr., who died in 1988. Mrs. Cook was born in Danvers and graduated from Danvers High School in 1926. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years. Mrs. Cook moved to Whitinsville in 1932. She was a member of the Whitinsville United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Whitinsville Women's Club. She was the grandmother of Eric J. Cook, who died in 1996. Surviving are a son, B. Richard Cook Jr. of Whitinsville; a daughter, Janet C. Lathrop of South Yarmouth; a sister, Myrtle Rainford of Lynn; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Whitinsville United Methodist Church, Linwood Avenue. Eldon K. Willoughby, 75
Commercial quahogger; World War II Army veteran
EDGARTOWN - Eldon K. Willoughby, a World War II veteran and well-known commercial quahogger on Martha's Vineyard, died Saturday at the Windemere Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oak Bluffs. He was 75. Mr. Willoughby was the husband of Marian L. (Millen) Willoughby. Born and raised in Oak Bluffs, Mr. Willoughby graduated from Edgartown High School. He joined the Army and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. He was honorably discharged after being wounded during the invasion of Sicily, and returned to Martha's Vineyard, where he met his wife. He and his family moved to Tewksbury to work, but returned to the island in 1974. Semiretired, he became a commercial quahogger. For the next 20 years, he could be seen plying the waters of Cape Pogue Bay quahogging with his friend, Bill Panck. He was also a lifelong stamp collector and woodworker. In addition to his wife, Mr. Willoughby is survived by one son, Eldon "Rick" K. Willoughby II, of Edgartown; three daughters, Joyce DelTorto and Linda Arsenault, both of Edgartown and Dianne Witt, of Chelmsford. Mr. Willoughby is also survived by two brothers, Irving and Robert Willoughby, both of Edgartown and Southboro, one sister, Alice Slocum, of Troy, N.Y., nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the New Westside Cemetery, and friends and family are invited.
