Vera M. Johnston
L.S. Starrett Worker
ATHOL - Vera M. (Green) Johnston, 92, of 821 Daniel Shays Hwy., died Nov. 19, 2003, at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She was born in Orange, on Nov. 28, 1910, the daughter of Arthur and Emily (Little) Green, attended Athol schools and has lived in Athol since 1912. For the past eight years she was a resident at Applewood Home for Elders and since July had resided at Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She worked at the L.S. Starrett Co. for 26 years, was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending winters in Calif.; nine grandchildren and many great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. in the Higgins - O’Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. William Hobbs, rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery and there are no calling hours.

Pauline G. Bishop
ATHOL - Pauline G. (Serre) Bishop, 91 of 3385 South Athol Rd.,died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, Nov. 24, at 1 p.m. at the Gethsemane Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Athol Memorial Hospital, 2033 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
Fiske Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

Austin Services
ORANGE - Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003 for Arlene L. "Teenie" Austin, 87, formerly of Orange, who died on Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 at the Blackstone Nursing Home, Blackstone. The Rev. Vance E. Frank officiated.
Pallbearers were Michael Brailey, Brian Brailey, Timothy Pudva, Craig Autio, Kevin Davis, and Ronald Austin, Jr.
Witty's Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

William W. Perkins
N.E. Black Powder
Shooting Champion
PETERSHAM - William W. Perkins, 87, formerly of 47 Old Barre Rd., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
Born in Paxton, he was the son of the late William J. and the late Sophie (Lysell) Perkins. He was a life - long resident of Petersham.
Mr. Perkins served during World War II in the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Asiatic Pacifice Theater and participated in action in Okinawa. He received the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Perkins was a self employed carpenter in the Petersham and surrounding area for many years.
He was a member of the First Congregational Parish Unitarian Church in Petersham. He was a member of the Barre Sportsman Club. He enjoyed black powder shooting and was the former New England Champion.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Siiri M. (Sundberg) Perkins who died in 1996.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Kenney of Petersham, Shirley Lam of Barre; a son, William W. Perkins, Jr. of Groveland; a sister, Dorothy Eitlemann of North Carolina; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; and a special friend, Cindy Barnes of Athol.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 11 a.m. in the East Street Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to the Quabbin Valley Healthcare - Alzheimer's Unit 821 Daniel Shays Hwy., Athol, MA 01331.
Fiske Funeral Home, Athol, is directing arrangements.

Pauline G. Bishop
Former Secretary
ATHOL - Pauline G. (Serre) Bishop, 91, of 3385 South Athol Rd., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Born in Athol, she was the daughter of the late Ozias O. and the late Florence K. (Collins) Serre. She grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1930.
She graduated from Boston University.
Mrs. Bishop was a secretary at the Webster Sole Company for eight years. She also worked at the First National Bank for several years.
She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church. She enjoyed gardening.
She leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
Donations may be made in her memory to the Athol Memorial Hospital 2033 Main St., Athol, MA 01331.
Fiske Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.

Calvi Services
ATHOL - Funeral services for Yola Calvi, 90, of 51 Hospital Rd., Baldwinville, formerly of Athol, were held Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, in the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., pastor of Athol Congregational Church officiating.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery and the bearers were: J. Philip Calvi, Roger Gardner, Ronald Fournier, Robert Lane, Larry Barnes and Daniel Superchi.

Thelma E. Hunt
WINCHENDON - Thelma E. (Floyd) Hunt, 92, of 151 Spring St., died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 in the Life Care Center of Action after a long illness.

Pauline V. Shepardson
Retired Hospital Worker
ORANGE - Pauline V. (Barrett) Shepardson, 82, of 383 East River St., died Thursday, Nov. 13, 2003 in her home after being stricken ill.
Born in Athol on June 26, 1921, a daughter of Walter L. and Bessie J. (Hervey) Barrett, she grew up in Athol, later moving to Orange where she lived most of her life.
She worked at the Worcester State Hospital, Worcester, 10 years before retiring in 1981. Previously she had been employed many years at the former Torrington Company. After retiring she worked briefly as a school bus driver in Athol and Orange.
She enjoyed Friday afternoon tea parties and her family.
Her hobbies included macrame, crocheting and quilting.
She leaves two sons, David Shepardson of Orange and Michael Shepardson and wife Holly of Tewksbury; a daughter, Beverly Blood and husband, Raymond of Spring Hill, Fla.; a brother, Norman Barrett of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a sister, Abbie Johnson of Athol; seven grandchildren, W. Raymond Shepardson and wife, Ruth of Luretto, Tenn., Lynn Hains and husband Timothy of Gardner, Cynthia Doyle and husband, Steven of Orange, Karen Shepardson of Orange, Susan Baldic and husband, Dennis of Spring Hill, Fla., Edward Lightkep III and Richard Lightkep both of Spring Hill, Fla.; nine great grandchildren, William, Timothy and Tia Hains of Gardner, Meghan and Sean Doyle of Orange, Jason Baldic, Elizabeth Cordona and husband, Samuel, Eric Lightkep and Katelynn Lightkep all of Spring Hill, Fla; two great greatgrandchildren, Alexander Cordona and Samuel Cordona, both of Spring Hill, Fla.; several nephews and nieces including Marilyn Johnson of Orange.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 20 at 10:30 a.m. in Witty's Funeral Home. The Rev. Barbara Seamon of the Central Congregational Church will officiate.
Private bural will be in South Cemetery.
There will be a calling hour from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday before the service.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham 01701, the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, 01701, or a charity of the donors choice.
