Minnie L. Bickford

WESTBOROUGH - Minnie L. Bickford, 87, of 80 Milk St., died on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at home. She was the wife of Clifton A. Bickford.
Born in Stoughton, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Florence (Clapp) Drake. She was educated in Westborough schools.
Mrs. Bickford was employed as a laundry assistant at Kimball's Laundry, retiring in 1979. She was a member of the Evangelical Congregational Church, an avid bingo player and was dedicated to her home and family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Beverly J. Newton of Westborough, Shirley A. Bickford of Orange, and Sally J. Colley and her husband, Scott, of Templeton; two brothers, Henry Drake of Clearwater, Fla., and Albert Drake of Southboro; six grandchildren, 15 great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother and six sisters.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 25 at 10 a.m. in the Evangelical Congregational Church, West Main Street, Westborough. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

WARWICK - A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2004 in the Warwick Center Cemetery, Route 78, for Violet M. (Dill) Anderson, 96, formerly of Orange Road, who died on June 12, 2004 in Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, following an illness. Rev. Dan Dibble, Pastor of Metcalf Memorial Chapel in Warwick, will officiate.

Mary R. Scovill

FLORIDA - Mary R. Scovill, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away June 22, 2004.
She was the daughter of Kenneth and Viola (Porter) McIntosh, born Feb. 26, 1921 in Littleton, Maine.
Mary graduated from Houlton High School. She worked for the Dead River Oil Company in Houlton, ME as head bookkeeper for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Methodist Churches in Houlton, ME, Wells, ME and Athol, MA.
Mary loved knitting children's sweaters, mittens and creating hand - made patchwork quilts with all proceeds donated to her church. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebeccas, and the Grange.
Mary is survived by her daughter Joann (Harvey) Hoskin Goldstein of Punta Gorda, FL; step - daughter Patricia Estabrook; step - son John (Gail) Scovill of Houlton, ME; a sister, Phyllis Neider of Brookline, MA; a brother, Herschel (Mildred) McIntosh, of Houlton; four grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren. She was preceded in death by first husband Lt. Harold E. Hoskin, U.S. Army Air Corps WWII and second husband C. Gerald Scovill; sister, Ada V. McIntosh.

John B. Anderson

ATHOL - John B. Anderson, 89, of 399 Silver Lake St. died Monday, June 21, 2004 in the Walden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Concord.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1915 in Petersham, the son of John A. and Alice (Barnes) Anderson. He resided in Petersham and Athol for many years.
Anderson was a 1934 graduate of Petersham High School. He served in the United States Navy in World War II on the USS Arkansas as a Seaman Second Class.
He worked as a machinist for 36 years at the L.S. Starrett company in Athol. He was the president of the Northeast Travel Avion Club and had traveled to 49 states, Canada, and Mexico. He was a member for over 50 years of the Star - Athol Masonic Lodge AF&FM. He was a retired fire caption of Engine 3 of Athol. He was a life member of the Petersham American Legion. He attended the Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church. He lived in Eutis, Fla. for 25 years before returning to Athol. His hobbies were traveling and golf.
He leaves a daughter, Janice Gross of Athol; a brother, Edwin C. Anderson of Petersham; a sister, Edith Mara of Oxford; two grandsons, Peter Coolidge of Colorado Springs, CO, and Eric Coolidge of Conmack, NY; and three great - grandsons.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Jeanette (Berry) Anderson, who died in 1967, his second wife, Nellie L. (Waid) Anderson who died in 1998, a daughter, Carol Anderson, a brother, Carl W. Anderson, and three sisters, Pearl Whitcomb of West Brookfield, Marion Crimmins of Greenfield and Alice Marold of Shrewsbury.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 24 at 2 p.m. in the Petersham Orthodox Congregational Church, 21 North Main St., Petersham. Burial will be in East Cemetery.
Calling hours at the Fiske Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

ORANGE - Funeral services for Girard J. Robichaud, 79, of 605 East River St., who died June 17, 2004 at home, were held in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home on Monday, June 21, 2004.
Reverend Tom Morin, Pastor of the Redemption Rock Church in Westminster, conducted the service.
Burial followed at South Cemetery. The bearers were; Douglas Robichaud, Edmond Duguay, James Hayes, Richard Lawsky, Jeff Blake, Ron Boise, Ryan Lilley.
A reception was held at the CCD Center.
The J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home directed arrangements.
Michel Services
ORANGE - A Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, June 19, 2004 in St. Mary's Church, for William D. Michel, 83, of 77 Chase St., who died on June 15, 2004 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, following an illness. The Rev. Fr. William Lunney officiated along with Deacon Joseph Bucci. Theresa Bergquist was the cantor and Janet Paoletti was the organist. St. Mary's choir participated during the Mass.
The gifts were brought forward by Robert and Ann Marie Ellison. Interment followed in South Cemetery. The pallbearers were Ronald "Reggie" Satrowsky, Steven Satrowsky, Michael Satrowsky, and Richard Harrison. Following the committal service, a reception was held in St. Mary's Parish Hall.

ATHOL - Alfred G. Roy, 62, of 40 Lake Ave., died Friday, June 18, 2004 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Born in Athol, March 25, 1942, a son of Edwin and Violet ( Hathaway) Costello, he grew up here and attended Athol Schools.
He worked as a security guard in this area until his health forced an early retirement.
A former shoe worker at the J. F. McElwain Company, he had also worked at S. Bent Co., Gardner and as a construction worker.
He resided in Florida 15 years before returing to Athol last year.
He leaves four sons, Dean Castello of Gardner, Curtis Castello of Athol, Kenneth Roy of Lowell and Alfred Castello of Florida; a step daughter, Jody Chiasson of Athol, a brother, Edwin Costello fo Erving and a sister, Judy Powell of Athol; several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Pelletier, his second wife, Joanne Chiasson, and a brother, Eugene Costello.
Funeral services and burial will be private.

ATHOL - Memorial services for Helen I. (Lawson) LaCoste, 83, of 859 Doe Valley Rd. were held Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home with the Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., pastor of Athol Congregational Church officiating. Private burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery, at a later date.

ATHOL - Helen I. (Lawson) LaCoste, 83, of 859 Doe Valley Rd., died Friday, June 18, 2004 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
She was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Orange, a daughter of Ivar and Mabel (Peterson) Lawson, and was one of twelve children.
Mrs. LaCoste grew up in Orange and attended Orange schools and for the past 58 years has resided in Athol. She and her husband also had spent winters in Sun City Florida for 25 years.
She was a member of the Ellinwood Country Club and besides golfing she enjoyed reading, and being with her great grandchildren.
She leaves her husband of 58 years, Franklin J. “Porky” LaCoste; a son, Larry F. LaCoste and his wife Brenda; a daughter, Caryl A. Thurber and her husband Bob, all of Athol; five grandchildren, Kevin LaCoste and his wife Alison of Methuen, Lori LaCoste of Athol, Becky Jillson and her husband John of Athol, Jeremy Thurber and his wife Mikaela of Hubbardston, Tim Thurber of Nashville, Tenn.; four great - grandchildren, Cailin, Callie and Crista Jillson all of Athol and Bryce Thurber of Hubbardston; a brother, Larry Lawson of Dover, Del.; four sisters, Dottie McIntosh and Shirley Castle both of Orange, Margie Cook of Andover, Betty Chenausky of New Hampshire and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Sunday, June 20, at 3 p.m. at Higgins - O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, with the Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, Jr., pastor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating. There will be a calling hour from 2to 3 p.m.
Private burial will be held in Silver Lake Cemetery at a later date.
