Kasi D. Stroup
Died Unexpectedly
ORANGE - Kasi D. Stroup, 20, of 176 Chase St., died unexpectedly on Saturday evening, Nov. 27, 2004 at the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. The cause of death is under investigation by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston.
Born in Greenfield on Jan. 29, 1984, she grew up in Orange and had been a student of the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School and later the Franklin County Technical School in Turners Falls. While at Mahar, she was the first female on the football team.
A bright and caring girl, she enjoyed her family and friends, music, dance and would help anyone in need.
She is survived by her loving mother and step father, Kim and Michael Richards Sr. of Orange; brothers, Michael Richards Jr. of Gardner and Lucas Jace of Orange; a sister, Amanda Richards of Gardner; grandparents, Ray and Mary Laffond of Orange; nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
She was predeceased by a son, Scott James Soulya, on Dec. 25, 2001, her grandmother, Arlene Stroup, in June of 1998, and her grandfather, Edward Stroup, in December 1983.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vance E. Frank officiating.
Interment in Tully Cemetery will be private.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to The Literacy Project, 34 North Main St., Orange, MA 01364.

Arthur F. Bastine
Shoemaker, Landscaper
ATHOL - Arthur F. Bastine, 66, of 142 Benton Place, died, Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner.
He leaves three sisters, Edna Wilson of Athol, Lillian Casey of Leominster, Antoinette Bastine of Cape Cod; three brothers, Norman Bastine, of Burlington, Wash., Donald Bastine of Shipman, Vir., Edward Bastine of Athol; several nephews and nieces, and one great niece and one great nephew.
His was predeceased by his sister Christine Miller who died in 1994, and by a brother, Richard Bastine who died earlier this year.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1938 in Shirley, the son of Adolphus and Lavina (Comeau) Bastine.
He worked as a shoemaker for many years and also was employed as a landscaper and woodcutting.
He was a resident of Athol for the past four years coming from Danville, Ken. where he lived for 20 years.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 3, at 10 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

Porter Services
ORANGE - Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 30, in Witty's Funeral Home, for Everett L. Porter, 71, of 105 South Main St., who died on Nov. 18, 2004 at Athol Memmorial Hospital, Athol. Rev. Julia Daly of the Orange United Methodist Church officiated.
Interment followed in South Cemetery. The pallbearers were; Michael Bellemare, Bill Sanderson, Wes Blackmer, Frank Metevier, Bill Care, and Bruce Jones. Members of the American Legion Post 172 in Orange provided an Honor Guard. Participating were: Ed Bezio, Dist. 2 Commander; John "Spider" Smith, Department Surgeon; Steve Rowe, Dist. 2 Chaplain; Clyde Ball, Commander SAL Squadron 172; and Raymond Fournier, Post 172 and Squadron 172. Rowe presented the United States flag to Michael Bellemare and Betty Jenks.

Memorial Service
ORANGE - A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m., in the Central Congregational Church, 93 South Main St., for Shirley J. (Duda) Arms, 52, of Walterboro, SC, who died Nov. 20, 2004 as a result of a motorcycle accident.
Donations are suggested to the American Cancer Society, for Breast Cancer Research, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Witty's Funeral Home is directing the arrangements.

Cecilia Croteau
EAST TEMPLETON - Cecilia (Mei) Croteau, 84, of 41 Sawyer St., died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 in her residence following an illness.

Thomas P. Hubbard
Machinist By Trade
WARWICK - Thomas P. Hubbard, 56, of Old Spofford Rd., Winchester, NH, formerly of Warwick, died early Saturday morning, Nov. 27, 2004, at his home.
He was born on April 19, 1948 in Montague, the son of Kenneth and Agnes (Carson) Hubbard Sr. He attended schools in Warwick, Pioneer Valley School in Northfield and Greenfield Technical School in Greenfield. He was a former resident of Hinsdale, NH and had made his home in Winchester since 1980.
A machinist by trade, he was formerly employed at the L.S. Starrett Co. in Athol, the Greenfield Tap & Die, and most recently at Smith Medical in Keene, NH.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and four - wheeling.
He leaves one son, Kevin Hubbard of Winchester; one daughter, Mary Louise Wiley of Thorn Hill, TN; four brothers, Kenneth Hubbard Jr. of Erving, Walter Hubbard of Royalston, MA, Robert Hubbard of Warwick, MA and Donald Hubbard of Winchester, NH; one sister, Martha Alden of Warwick; four grandchildren, one great grandson, several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Albert Hubbard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at the O'Connor - Carr Funeral Home, 42 Parker St., Winchester, NH. Friend are invited to call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Kasi Stroup
ORANGE - Kasi Stroup, 20, of 176 Chase St., died unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiners in Boston is conducting the investigation into the cause.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Witty's Funeral Home in Orange.

McKnight Services
WARWICK - Committial services were held on Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 in the Warwick Center Cemetery, for John B. "Jack" McKnight, 51, of 355 Wendell Rd., who died on Nov. 18, at Athol Memorial Hospital, Athol, following an illness. Rev. Dan Dibble of the Metcalf Memorial Chapel officiated.
Witty's Funeral Home, Orange, directed the arrangements.

Gordon Visitation
ATHOL - Calling hours for Idella M. (Dingman) Gordon, 64, of 63 South Main St., who died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at the University Commons in Worcester, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home.
A private Memorial Service will be held with burial following at Silver Lake Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to: American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Idella M. Gordon
Earned Degree
ATHOL - Idella M. (Dingman) Gordon, 64, of 63 South Main St., died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2004 at the University Commons in Worcester.
She was born on March 19, 1940 in St. Johnsbury, VT, a daughter of Alvin and Flora (Colby) Dingman. She grew up in St. Johnsbury and Winchester, NH where she attended schools there and had lived most of her life in Athol.
She attended Mt. Wachusett Community College and Greenfield Community College, graduating with a degree in criminal justice at the age of 50.
She was a homemaker and also worked at the former McElwain Shoe Shop and Duall Plastics Co. in Athol. Idella was a born again Christian, loved and enjoyed her family, traveling, especially to Ogunquit and Kennebunk, ME.
She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, photography and gardening, always loved yellow roses.
She leaves her companion of 24 years, Elwyn “Swede” Johnson; four sons, Douglas A. Gordon, Jr. of Orange, Jeffrey D. Gordon and Michael A. Gordon, both of Athol, Jay J. Gordon of Warwick; nine daughters, Sheila M. Kenney of Greenfield, Hope E. Bernard of Friendsville, TN, Anita E. Gordon of Athol, Andrea M. Harris of New Salem, Tracey L. Bigwood, Audrey A. Gordon, Diane R. Fortes, Ravin L. Gordon, Oleda M. Newcombe, all of Athol; two step - children, Dean H. Gordon and Denice A. Gordon, both of Hinsdale, NH; thirty grandchildren, and two sisters, Martha E. Dingman and Minnie H. Demers, both of Potsdam, NY. Her husband Douglas A. Gordon, Sr., and a brother Edwin G. Dingman predeceased her.
