Alice V. Harris; Owned Telephone Answering Service
WARWICK — Alice V. Harris, 89, formerly of Cambridge, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 at the Harborside Danvers Twin Oaks Nursing Home.
She was born in Fall River, brought up in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge High and Latin class of 1927.
She lived in Warwick for several years, moved back to Cambridge and lived there most of her life and the last 15 years lived in Melrose.
Alice and her late husband, Fred, owned and operated one of the first privately owned telephone answering services in the Boston area. They operated Cambridge Telephone Answering Service from the 1940's to 1970's.
She belonged to the Grange in Warwick and did volunteer work for the Melrose Wakefield Hospital for several years. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Melrose and enjoyed traveling, crocheting, crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
Among her survivors is two daughters, Alice F. Harris and her close friend Lorraine Greiner of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Fredericka H. Fellows and her husband Calvin of Warwick; one son, William J. Harris and his wife Nancy of Melrose; one sister, Mary Griffin of Chelmsford; eight grandchildren; three great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, John Connors and Joseph Connors and one sister, Margaret McTernan.
Graveside service will be held at Warwick Cemetery, Warwick, Saturday, April 15 at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Warwick Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boston Catholic Television Canter, 55 Chapel St., Newtonville, Mass. 02158 or to the Warwick Free Public Library, Warwick, Mass. 01378.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gately Funeral Home, Melrose.

Minnie Jarvenpaa; Enjoyed Cooking
So. ROYALSTON — Minnie (Bullock) Jarvenpaa, 85, of 19 River Rd., died Thursday, April 6, 2000 in Athol Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Baldwinville, April 30, 1914, the daughter of Ignatius and Mary (Gamala) Bullock and had lived here 67 years.
She worked many years ago in the Winchendon School. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and frequent trips to Connecticut.
Her husband of 60 years, Olavi Jarvenpaa, died in 1994.
Among her survivors if two daughters, Joyce Levesque of Westminster and Deborah Mailman of Templeton; two sisters, Jennie Stickney of Baldwinville and Helen Dumont of Florida; nine grandchildren; ten great - grandchildren and five great - great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two sons, Donald Jarvenpaa and Richard Jarvenpaa, both of So. Royalston, as well as three brother, Edward, Joseph and Stanley Bullock and a sister, Charlotte Vaidulas.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 11, at 10 a.m. in the Smith Funeral Home, Gardner. The Rev. James Callahan of Our Lady Immaculate Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Lawrence Brook Cemetery, Royalston.
Calling hours in the funeral home will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 10.

Earl G. Joslin; Owned Saw Mill
GREENFIELD — Earl G. Joslin, 87, of 29 Summer St., died Sunday, April 9, 2000 in the Buckley Nursing Home, Greenfield, after a long illness.
He was born in Holyoke, Oct. 14, 1912 the son of George N. and Mae (Frazier) Joslin.
He attended Smith Vocational School.
He was a sawyer for many years retiring in 1982, having owned and operated a portable saw mill.
He also sharpened saws and enjoyed woodworking and reading.
He leaves his wife of 63 years the former Rose E. Hescock; one son, Earl R. Joslin of Warwick; four daughters, Evelyn "Evie" Dresser of Northfield, Vivian Lee of Athol, Carol Smith of McConnellsburg, Pa, and Gloria Kahle of Feeding Hills; seven grandchildren, three great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 13, at 11 a.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, with the Rev. Lloyd Parrill officiating.
Burial will be private at Federal St. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Franklin Medical Center Oncology Dept., 164 High St., Greenfield, Mass. 01301.

Dale W. Watts; Avid Writer
Dale W. Watts, 40, of 75 Farnsworth Ave., died suddenly at home on Saturday, April 8, 2000.
He leaves his parents, Donald W. and Sandra L. (Beaman) Watts of Athol; three sisters, Diane O. Watts of Walton, Oregon, Serina Kim Cullen of Athol, Tery L. Burton of Athol; six nephews; one niece and many cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister, Waunita Watts and an uncle Charles E. Beaman.
He was born in Athol, April 19, 1959. He graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1977.
He was a field service technician for National Propane for the past 20 years.
He was an avid writer and enjoyed music, especially Celtic music. He loved nature and the outdoors and enjoyed hiking and fishing at the Quabbin Reservoir. He had interest in astronomy and viewing the stars.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, with Rev. Mark Bariloni, pastor of the Athol - Orange Baptist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
A calling hours will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2000 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Massachusetts Audubon Society, State Headquarters, South Great Road, Lincoln, Mass. 01773.

Calvin L. Tandy
TEMPLETON — Calvin L. Tandy, 78, of 99 Bridge St., Baldwinville, died Friday, April 7, 2000 at his residence after an illness.
He was a draftsman and cabinet maker for the L.S. Starrett Company for several years until his retirement last year.

Helene T. Fisher; Life Long Resident
Helene T. "MA" (Vorce) Fisher, 83, of 179 Silver Lake St., died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at her home.
She was born July 11, 1916, in Orange, the daughter of Envelle L. and Jenny (Starkey) Vorce. She attended Orange schools and had lived in the Athol - Orange area all of her life.
Her husband, Otis Fisher, died in 1995.
She leaves two sons, Robert L. Bowers of Fitzwilliam, N.H., Kenneth O. Bowers of Athol; two daughters, Delene Chappel of Orange, and Jeannine Quader of Athol; a brother, Cedar Vorce of Orange; 17 grandchildren; 43 great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren. A son, James Bowers, died in 1963.
She was a baby sitter for several area families for many years until her retirement. She had previously worked at the Orange Pants Shop, Erving Tea Room, Ersey Shoe Shop, McElwain Shoe Shop, and for Vorces Cab Co., with her brothers, Arthur, and Cedar Vorce.
She was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Orange, serving with the women's ministries for the past 22 years, and working on any committee or church event she could for many years.
She loved listening to gospel music and cooking for her family and many friends.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 15, at 11 a.m., in the First Assembly of God Church in Orange, with Pastor Frank Visco officiating.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
There are no calling hours and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Assembly of God Church, "Building Fund" 349 South Main St., Orange, Mass. 01364.
The Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home is directing arrangements.

George A. Peters, Owned Peters Dairy
George A. Peters, 85, of 105 Simonds St., died Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 14, 1914, in Danville, Quebec, Canada, the son of Robert J. and Alice F. (Philbrick) Peters. He lived in Gill for many years and since 1967 had resided in Athol.
He leaves his wife of 29 years, Virginia (McIntosh) Peters; three sons, Gary Peters of South Deerfield, Dennis Peters of Heath, Lawrence Peters of Colstrip, Mont.; two daughters, Laurie Naprovnik of Dearborn, MO, Debra Peters of East Hampton; a step - daughter, MaryAnn Brill of Kingman, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and three step - grandchildren.
He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1932, owned and operated Peters Dairy in Gill for many years. After moving to Athol he worked at the Peterson's Dairy for three years and at the L.S. Starrett Co. for 12 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Athol - Orange Lodge of Elks No. 1837.
Memorial services will be held Friday, April 7 at 3 p.m., in the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home, with the Rev. Fr. A. Milton Cheney, III, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating.
There are no calling hours and private burial will be in Silver Lake Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, 15 Park Ave., or Athol Memorial Hospital "Save our Hospital" 2033 Main St., both in Athol, Mass. 01331.
