WARWICK - Hollis H. "Punk" Hubbard, 83, of 718 Orange Rd., died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002 in his home.
Born in Warwick on July 18, 1919, a son of Walter and Carrie (Fisher) Hubbard, he lived in Warwick at the house where he was born all of his life.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Army in the Aleutian Islands until his discharge in 1945.
A farmer and woodsman most of his life, he enjoyed gardening, horses and cutting wood.
He worked at Union Butterfield Division of Litton Industries, Athol, 15 years until retiring in 1984, previously he had worked at Rodney Hunt Company and later Torrington Company both in Orange.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Charlotte A. (Peirce) Hubbard; three sons, Peter Hubbard of Orange, James Hubbard of Petersham and John Hubbard of Beaver Creek, Ore.; three daughters, Charlene Gleason of Athol, JoAnn Haley of Templeton and Nancy Hubbard of North Brookfield; two sisters, Rita Clark of Orange and Emily Benoit of Warwick; 13 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren; many nephews and nieces.
A grandson, Daniel Pecoy, died in 1994.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. in Warwick Center Cemetery, Orange Road. Pastor Daniel Dibble of Trinitarian Congregational Church will officiate.
There are no calling hours.

F. Wesley Padula
Veteran, Bus Driver
ORANGE - F. Wesley Padula, 76, of 865 North Main St., died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, in the Athol Memorial Hospital, after being stricken ill earlier.
He leaves his wife of 20 years, Ella "Rosie" (Frost) Padula; his first wife, Mary L. (Berube) Padula, died in 1995. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Thomas Padula of Phillipston; three daughters, Kathryn Lord of Winchendon, Deborah Padula of Phillipston, and Pamela Ablaza of East Templeton; four step - sons, Lawrence Sylvester of Orange, Robert Sylvester of Gardner, David Sylvester of Orange, and Michael Sylvester of North Carolina; four step - daughters, Betty May of Winchendon, Cathy Steiner of Erving, Barbara Gerard of Florida, and Bonnie Benoit of Athol; a brother, Dervin LaGoy of Florida; 28 grandchildren and 15 great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A son, Peter Padula, died in 1973.
He was born in Fitchburg on March 16, 1926, a son of Ferdinand and Rachel (LaGoy) Padula and was raised and attended schools in Lunenburg. He had lived many years in Phillipston before moving to Orange several years ago.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
Mr. Padula was a foreman for the Eastern Furniture Company in Athol for 18 years, retiring in 1988. Previously he was a truck driver for Seaman Paper Company in Otter River for many years. Following his retirement, he drove bus for the Swift River Bus Company until the spring of this year. He was skilled at woodworking, and raised rabbits and grew vegetables at the Look - n - Good Farm which he operated from his home.
The funeral service, with military honors, will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Athol. Rev. James B. Callahan, associate pastor of Our Lady Immaculate Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
Calling hours in the funeral home are Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Marian B. Adams

ATHOL - Marian (Bullard) Adams, 88, of 130 Barrett Ave., died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Baldwinville Nursing Home, in Baldwinville.
She was born in New Salem on Aug. 29, 1914, the daughter of William and Harriett (Paige) Bullard. She grew up in New Salem and had resided in Athol most of her life.
She graduated from New Salem Academy in 1932 and from the Massachusetts State College (now the University of Massachusetts) in 1936 with a degree in English. She worked at the former Maples in Orange, the Tea Room in Amherst, Union Twist Drill in Athol and the Athol Savings Bank.
She was a member of the Athol - Orange Baptist Church, the FaHoLo group and the sewing club of the church. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star - Themis chapter and the A.A.R.P. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and spending summers at her summer home at Packard Heights.
Her husband of 50 years, R. Terry Adams, died in 1989. She leaves five daughters; Maryann Peterson of Newark, N.Y., Susan Adams of Burke, Vir., Joann Deacon of Athol, Leann Adams of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Ann Adams of Sunnyvale, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; a sister Glenna Gray of Athol, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters Dorothy Fittz and Althea Daniels.
Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. in the Athol - Orange Baptist Church, with Pastor Mark D. Bariloni officiating.
Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Higgins - O'Connor Funeral Home.

James R. Calder
Truck Mechanic
ATHOL - James R. Calder, 67, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., died early Monday morning, Nov. 4, 2002 in the St. Vincent's Hospital/Worcester Medical Center, Worcester, following an illness.
Born in Albany, N.Y. on Feb. 16, 1935, he was a son of Clark and Mary Ann (Street) Calder.
Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army on Dec. 5, 1957 and was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant on Dec. 4, 1959.
On Aug. 18, 1957, he was married to Arlene (Mordsfeld) and they had spent 45 years together.
A truck mechanic for 43 years for the Union Carbide Company in Sudbury, he retired from there in 1988. He later went on to work for the AirGas Company for six years.
Residents of Marlboro for 30 years, he and his wife had lived in Athol the past 10 years.
A present member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Orange, he had been a 30 - year member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Westboro. While in Athol, he was a member of the "739 Community," and participated in the Franklin County Community Meals Program by volunteering with the meals served at Bethany Lutheran Church each week.
An avid woodworker, he especially liked making toys along with other crafts.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Kenneth Calder of Clinton; Scott Calder and wife Pam of Bellingham, and Daniel Calder and wife Mary of Athol; 16 grandchildren; and three great - grandchildren; a brother, George Calder of Schenectady, N.Y. a sister, Florence Varner of Mississippi; several aunts and uncles, several nieces and a nephew.
Brothers, Edmund Calder and Lawrance Calder, predeceased him, along with a sister, Wanda Filiaut.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. in the Bethany Lutheran Church, 62 Cheney St., Orange, with Rev. Andrea Hoslett, pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Witty's Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.

ATHOL - Emily Chiasson Harper of Winter Haven, Fla. and formerly of Athol, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002. She fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Faith in God and support from her family, friends and hospice, all helped her to pass to another life with the courage and dignity she so desired.
Born in Athol on Nov. 24, 1926 to Peter and Lena (Robichaud) Chiasson, she was raised in Athol and graduated from the Athol High School Class of 1944.
On March 30, 1946, she was married to C. Foster Harper.
Besides her husband of 56 years, she is survived by two daughters, Susan (Carl) Champine of Rutland, Vt., Jean (Alan) Cram of Green Valley, Ariz.; a son, Scott (Carol) of Mill Valley, Calif.; a daughter - in - law, Sandra Harper of Rutland, Vt.; two brothers Fabian Chiasson of Athol and Leo Chiasson of Orange; a sister, Theresa Anderson of Winter Haven; seven grandchildren and five great - grandsons and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph Chiasson and infant son, Glen David.
Although she retired as a supervisor from Moore Business Forms, in Rutland, Vt. in 1985 after more than 20 years of service, she considered her most important and rewarding job that of motherhood.
With her husband, she was a former resident of Rutland, Vt. for 38 years. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland, Vt., and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Haines City, Fla.
A memorial of the celebration of her life will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 102 North 9th St., Haines City, Fla. on Monday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m.
An additional memorial service will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Rutland, Vt. at a later date.
