Todd, Margaret B.
Margaret B. Todd passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 18, 2004. She was the beloved wife of the late Seth Herman Todd, and the mother of Marilyn T. Hagans and Margaret “Margie” T. Mock. Her parents, John Albert and Ethyl May Gump Boyce and her brother, Creston Franklin Boyce, preceded her in death. She was grandmother of Mark David and Jonathan Todd Hagans, Darren Todd and Brian Tait Mock, and great-grandmother of Connor David, Ethan Todd and Carsyn Kaylene Hagans, and John Todd and Greta Gossey Mock. Many nieces and nephews also survive her. A memorial service was held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 11416 Cedar Lane, Beltsville on Saturday, August 28, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church Fund.

Hurt, Ruth M. (Age 80)
Ruth M. Hurt passed away on October 22, 2004 at Laurel Regional Hospital. Mrs. Hurt was born in Louisa, VA and lived in Beltsville from 1983-2003. She was the wife of the late George W. Hurt, Sr.; loving mother of George, Jr. and Bobby Hurt, Ruth Ann Fleshman, Jane Schildt and Ronnie Hurt; and sister of John, Benny, Lee and Lucille. Also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The family received friends at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A. on Tuesday, October 26 where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 27 at 11:00 a.m. Interment was at Fort Lincoln Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Hydrocephalus Association, 870 Market Street, Suite 705, San Francisco, CA 94102.

Reising, Paul E.
Paul E. Reising passed away on Monday, November 8, 2004. He was the beloved husband of Frances L. Reising, father of Joe (Susie), Fred (Lisa), Kenny (Pam), John “Buzz” (Jennifer) Reising, Beth (Neil) Sipes and the late Paul E. Reising, II. Grandfather of Freddy, Jimmy, Sean, Katie, Hannah, Hunter, Kasey, Gregory, Harli “Peanut” and the late Little Joe. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11007 Montgomery Road, Beltsville, MD on Friday, November 12, at 10:00 a.m. with Father J. Michael Quill officiating. Gayan, Rose S.
Rose S. Gayan passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony Gayan, mother of Joan E. (Kenneth) Heiser, grandmother of Kendra B. and K. Evan Heiser, sister of Peter, Edward, and the late Olga Stefanelli, and cousin of Maresita Kuhn and Clare Moon. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at First Baptist Church of Beltsville, 4700 Odell Road, Beltsville on Friday, November 19 at 10:00 a.m. Interment private. Poe, Lawrence
Lawrence “Pete” Poe died on Saturday, November 20, 2004. Beloved husband of the late D. Covadis Poe, brother of Thomas E. Poe, Audrey F. Williams, Iva E. Elloff, and Annabel L. Crough. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends called at Borgwardt funeral home, 4400 Powder Mill Road in Beltsville on Tuesday, November 23 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m., where the service was held on Wednesday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. Interment Meadowridge Memorial Park. Curtice, Cora Spiers
Cora (Spiers) Curtice, 97, of Beltsville, Maryland, the beloved widow of Charles W. Curtice, died Friday, December 10, 2004 at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, Connecticut. She was born and raised in McNeil, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Sara Ellen (Mitchell) Spiers. Cora was a resident of Beltsville for over 60 years where she was an active member of the Beltsville Baptist Church and a past president of the Women's Benevolent Association. She was a retired employee of the U.S. Postal Service. Her two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter C. and Ann R. Curtice of Gwinn, Michigan and Aaron S. and Regina T. Curtice of Manchester, Connecticut, six grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren, her sister Joda Russell of Texas, her special niece Margaret Midkiff of Fairfax, Virginia, numerous nieces and nephews, and many special friends survive her. Funeral service was held at Picayune Funeral Home in Picayune, Mississippi.

Dolan, Betty J.
Betty J. Dolan passed away on Friday, November 12, 2004 at her residence in Beltsville. She was the beloved mother of Kitty Lou Schneider, Daniel and Russell Dolan, and the late Shirley Ann Milne. She was the grandmother of Vicki, Brian, Bobby, Kevin, Kira, Chris, and Brooke, and the great-grandmother of Samantha. Funeral service was held at Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Road, Beltsville on Tuesday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery. James L. Harding passed away on December 4, 2004. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary M. Harding, and the father of Louise R. Marinaccio, Leonard E. (Ann), Charles A. (Gina), James G. (Donna), William W. and Michael W. (Tonya) Harding. He was the grandfather of Theresa, Lena (Rich), Michael (Marcia), Kim, Leonard (Susan), Daniel (Sherri), Charlie, Tony, Bud, Joseph, and Kaitlyn and the great-grandfather of Ashley, Luis, Corey, Mark, Amber, James, Joseph and April. Mattingly, Pearl Lillian
Pearl Lillian Mattingly, formerly of Beltsville, passed away on November 29, 2004 at the age of 94. She was the beloved wife of the late Gwynn F., Mattingly, mother of Richard G. Mattingly, grandmother of Susanna L. Warner, Gwynne R., Jenny E. and Joel G. Mattingly and the great-grandmother of Chad and Jack Warner. Her sister, Ruth Reeves, and her brother, John Raymond Turner, preceded her in death. Funeral service was held at Borgwardt Funeral Home on Thursday, December 2, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend William Moyer officiating. Interment Fort Lincoln Cemetery.

McCarthy, Geraldine M.
Geraldine M. McCarthy passed away on December 13, 2004. She was the beloved mother of Kathleen A. McCarthy, Kevin P. (Nancy) McCarthy, Patricia M. (Scott) Marple, and Christopher (Glenn) McCarthy. She was the grandmother of Kristine M. McCarthy, Sarah R. Marple, Mary Katherine McCarthy and William McCarthy. She was also the sister of Mary (Fred) Colucci. McGown, John Rae, Jr.
John Rae McGown, Jr. passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2004. He was the beloved husband of Barbara C. McGown, and the father of Paul, Patrick Ray, William (Phyllis), and Patrick (Marie) McGown. He was the stepfather of Jo Jo (Dottie) Lasick, Kathy Baggot, and Michael (Glenda) Lasick, and the brother of David and William McGown. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive him. Hunter, Frances “Frankie”
Frances Alberta “Frankie” Hunter, 79, of Beltsville died December 5, 2004 at Laurel Regional Hospital. Frankie was born on November 22, 1925 in Virginia. She worked as an administrative secretary for the University of Maryland. Her daughters, Karen and Kathy Hunter, son Kevin Hunter, sisters Jessie Marcus, Thelma Primm, Opal Phelps, and Rachel Rogers, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren survive her.Frankie was a member of Beltsville's Emmanuel United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for many years. She volunteered at the Beltsville Academic Center, and was also a stalwart member of the Beltsville News staff. For the last few years, she co-authored the column, “25 Years Ago in the Beltsville News.” She will be sorely missed by her many friends in the community of Beltsville.
